Since Portfolio closed, I've been looking for somewhere to sit + work during the day near 4th and Junipero. I've been in a few times and have tried both the iced marzipan and iced vanilla lattes, and they were both incredible. The marzipan latte has a unique, slightly nutty sweetness that was super smooth without being overpowering. The vanilla latte was classic and not overly sweet--perfect balance of espresso and flavor. Both drinks were perfectly crafted. Their cinnamon roll was seriously once of the best I've had, and the olive oil cake with a hint of orange...... 10/10. The atmosphere here is cozy and welcoming, with a cool vibe that fits right into Retro Row. The pizza from an actual brick pizza oven was amazing, I already plan to go back for more. I had the Crema Di Tartuffo and the sage was so interesting. The risotto was great, even better the next day as leftovers. The Cuoppo appetizer was good though the huge potato halves were a mouthful. Amazing customer service. Comfortable and warm, inviting space. Walked in with my toddler and daughter for coffee today. Sometimes I get nervous bringing my kids into adult spaces but I felt so welcomed. It means a lot. My daughter even mentioned having her birthday dinner here. Wow!! if I could give this place 6 stars I would. Firstly, the service was incredible. Our waiter was also the one who developed the wine list all from the Campania region. Then the owner helped our table when the restaurant got busy and shared with us about how the restaurant got started. The food was truly *chefs kiss*. I think we ordered about 1/3 of the menu between the 5 of our party and shared. The Diavola pizza, Amante Della Carne pizza, strozzapreti, lasagna, risotto... every dish was so flavorful. This little, all vegan, delicious place gets 5 stars because the atmosphere was cozy, the service was great (we had Riley), and most importantly, the food was phenomenal! We (2 meat eaters and one vegan) went here for a special occasion, and it really fit the bill for that cozy Italian celebratory dinner I was looking for. The owner is super hands on and friendly. We ordered olives, Cesar salad, risotto, and lasagna. Everything was delicious and everything is made from scratch (from the "meats" to the" cheeses" and everything in between). Vegan Italian.... Yes please!! So, Mangiafoglie recently opened and, being a vegetarian. I HAD to try them out. This morning, I had a Marzipan Latte. It was made with oat milk and was very good. Then, we went back for dinner. The restaurant was nice and the staff was very pleasant. We ordered several dishes so we could sample more food. Everything was good but, the non-pizza items were on the smaller size. We ordered 3 pastas, 1 salad, 1 pizza and a bottle of wine. We all enjoyed the food and nothing disappointed us. The reason for 4 stars, rather than 5 was due to the use of Beyond plant based meat. While I initially was under the impression that their "meat" was all made in house, that wasn't truly the case and, for a high-end Italian place, I would have thought that Impossible "meat" would have been used. The food quality and taste was very good and, I will try Mangiafoglie again, after they've been opened for a while. I do recommend this place for a nice Italian vegan place. read more

Very happy this place has opened up in LB! It does not take reservations and has a small dining area so you may have to wait until a table clears to be seated. The staff here is absolutely fantastic and knows the ins and outs of the wine and menu. Really, really great people. We went at 6:45pm and they didn't have the menu items we really wanted to try. We had the Caesar salad to share which was great, the prosciutto pizza, and the lasagna. I've been vegan a couple years now and would say the food was pretty good and felt authentically Italian. My partner and I (both vegan for about 10 years) were very excited to try Mangiafoglie with a couple of friends who are fellow vegan food-enjoyers. Upscale vegan Italian in Long Beach? A dream come true! Unfortunately, as things stand, we probably won't be back for a second visit. I don't often leave reviews, but I very much wanted to leave feedback for the owners in the hopes that they can address some of the issues we encountered. Starting with the positive: - The staff were very pleasant and excelled at assisting us with some allergen concerns - The olives appetizer, the strozzapreti, and the lasagna were all excellent. The Diavola pizza had potential, but was ruined by the cheese (keep reading) - The dinnerware? Extremely cute. The less positive: - The olives appetizer we ordered for our table of 4 only came with a half slice of bread. Split in four, we each got about a crouton's worth of that bread. It felt like a really insulting amount of bread for a dish meant to be shared. - The pizza cheese: I'm not sure how this hasn't been mentioned in other reviews, but the pizza cheese had a distinct (earthy, fishy, mushroomy?) off-taste to it. The texture didn't make up for the off-taste either: it ended up as a kind of firm-jelly consistency. My partner and I, who, again, have been vegan for roughly 10 years, are well-versed in the good, bad, and ugly of vegan cheese. Unfortunately, this cheese came down firmly on the ugly side of vegan cheeses for us Since the restaurant is so new, I know the owners and staff at Mangiafoglie are likely still going through the pains of getting on their feet, and I think there are things they can do better right away. - Serve two pieces of bread (one slice!) with the olives appetizer, and if the appetizer is being shared by more than two people, ask diners if they'd like an extra order of bread - I'm not sure if the pizza cheese off-taste was a fluke or not, and I know the custom-made vegan mozz is a big part of Mangiafoglie's origin story, but I seriously think it needs some work or an alternative on offer. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time, walked up on Saturday, early evening. There were numerous empty tables and no one sitting at the bar, but we were told it was a 45 minute wait. So we decided to go get a drink somewhere else and come back later. All in all, continued to wait upon our return. I would highly recommend making reservations in advance. An awesome experience! Went for the first time last night, all the reviews we read raving about this place are legit! The service was warm and personable. We especially appreciated the inventive culinary dishes presented to us...and this is coming from a meat lover who was coerced into this when dining with three vegetarians! Highlights include the amazing marinara sauce, awesome eggplant appetizer, Caesar salad (croutons to die for), amazing faux meat lasagna, and finished it off with a beautiful faux meat pizza. The "sausage" was off the charts. This, coupled with a bottle of Blanco "Vesuvius" wine made our culinary experience complete!!! This food is obviously prepared by a "chef", not a "cook". Kudos to the excellent and personable wait staff who made incredible suggestions. Be sure to arrive early as the restaurant is small (9 tables and a small bar area). The architectural design elements are total class! A touch of post modern with comfortable chairs. The silverware are design triumphs! To top it off. Last night, 4/25 we went down to a friends art exhibit during 4th Fridays on Retro Row. Then, we wanted to head down to MangiaFoglie because being plant based, there aren't many high end restaurant choices. I wish I would've caught our servers name, Blonde, super nice person and had all the info we needed to order. She even suggested a wine to my kid that was delicious, but I had the lime Italian soda. The only thing I got her on was if they use a Biga or poolish or any kind of preferment I. The pizza dough, because that was so light and crispy. We had the Ceaser, the polpette, gnocchi, cream do tartufo pizza, strozzapreti and finished off with their amazing olive oil cake that for me was the of the whole experience. Take that back, might have been that the person making most of this food and owner, did it all in a Bad Brains shirt, one of my fav bands since 1980! Great food, vibe and service. Came here for coffee and a morning pastry. It was a lovely experience on this fresh morning as we sat at at table in the comfy green chairs near the open air area. It was 9am and we were the only patrons. I like the trendy ambiance and cleanliness of this establishment. Upon arrival we inquired if they served breakfast. We were told they serve food at 11am and we were offered a sample of a couple of pastries which hooked us to stay. We ordered a slice of blueberry crumble cake and olive cake. Both moist, fresh, enjoyable flavors. The black truffle specialty coffee was smooth and nutty--different from anything I've ever had. I personally would have preferred a stronger robust flavor, but despite that, the quality was very good and I would probably order it again. The staff was friendly and quite lovely! During our visit, a homeless man who was mentally ill walked in and they handled him with grace, clearly trying to keep him from disturbing us. Sadly, I could smell him from our 20 foot distance. So, we appreciated their efforts. Also, when we left, an employee ran after us with my husband's wallet which fell out of his pocket while seated. That is honesty and we were so appreciative. We will be back! On a side note, we think if the two owners rolled out a simple breakfast menu, they would do well because the open concept layout is so inviting for it. read more

I've never had a meal at a vegan Italian restaurant before but this place was amazing! We had the caesar salad which was well dressed and the homemade croutons were incredible enough that I ordered a side of bread to have more of it! We had the "meat" pizza which had a few different kinds of meat substitutes. We also got the cacio e pepe pasta which was very good, though it was a bit too heavy on the lemon for my taste. After spending a full day at the Grand Prix with access to very few vegan options I was desperately looking for a delicious vegan restaurant to visit for dinner. I stumbled upon Mangiafoglie and I'm so happy I did. I got there early around 6pm and they were able to seat me quickly. However, as I sat there I noticed the line of people waiting for a table grow exponentially so time your visit accordingly. The food is all plant based and italian! I ordered the cuoppo and the lasagna! Both were incredibly delicious. I was very impressed by the authenticity of the ingredients AND the wines I heard that they work with a sommelier to select wines that pair with their dishes. WOW! I really liked their 2 reds both very different in flavors, I could tell they were selected with intention behind it. I also had the dessert! It was an olive cake with a compote and ice cream. The ice cream!!!! Oh my god it was some of the best ice cream I ever had, I learned that evening they make it themselves! I had such a great experience I came back again the next day since I was there for the Grand Prix again. This time I arrived at 6ish and it was packed! Second time around I ordered the crema di tartufo pizza, their tricolore salad & parmigiana de melanzane. I would order the pizza and the salad again, I don't like salads when I dine out but I was so impressed with this one. The Ceasar looks incredible even though I never had it. I wasn't super impressed with the eggplant melanzane, it tasted good but it wasn't super memorable in comparison to other dishes. I will continue to come back and work my way through the menu. The service is great but they are insanely busy. If you're in a rush or don't like to wait, I wouldn't recommend it. My only criticism that's more on the negative side is that they sell OUT of dishes! It was 6:42 when I was entering my order and they had already ran out of the cuoppo, one of the pizzas and other things.
