Hurry, for I don't think this place will last long in Manhattan. Or at least show up early. We were seated about 9 a.m., and the remnants of the breakfast rush had apparently been left on the heat. The coffee was the consistency and flavor of espresso, and the ample servings of potatoes were dry beyond salvaging with all the available butter. The entrees were fresh and tasty. read more

Solid hamburger deluxe enjoyed sitting at the counter today. The burger was cooked well to order and still moist with beefy flavor. Fries were nothing to brag about but just fine. Side of slaw plus lettuce, tomato and red onion comes along on the plate without having to ask for it. read more

This is my neighborhood diner, and I have loved it for many, many years. Excellent food, service, quality, and that old-fashioned sense of comfort when you go to the "local place." The "Mom's Meatloaf" entree is an especially great value -- one order is more than enough for two hungry people, and you'll still have leftovers to reheat the next day! And the matzoh ball soup is like a blissful return to childhood. Don't even get me started on the chicken salad platter! Delicious chicken salad, potato salad and coleslaw, with lots of fresh veggies and olives for garnish, and the portion is so generous, you can easily make three or four meals out of it. I want to vent and write everything I don't like and that I do like but im gonna be short and simple. Its not worth the price. Food/Portions are 5/10. I gave it a chance twice. I don't think i'll give it a try again. I went because of how convenient it was, and I gave it a second chance because of how convenient it was but other than that. Thats really the only reason why I would go again if I did. I had breakfast 6/10 taste/portion. Burger 8/10 Taste/Patty size. Chicken wings 4/10 taste. Im not sure what was going on with wings but very disappointed. I paid so much money and I regret not going to Mcdonalds thats across the street, or going to Deli around the corner. What I would say to owner. Get better prices. Or step the food up. I get it, its a business. People will come regardless. I come often to eat her but I am noticing that they are lacking hospitality. I ordered my food from one server (a guy) and it arrived quickly which is a plus but no one came after to check if I needed something. Another server (a girl) went to the tables around me but at no point asked if I needed something. The only time she came around was to remove my plate and give me my check. I had a table across from me that was speaking in Spanish and the server (once again the girl) spoke only in English to them even though I heard her talking to her fellow workers in Spanish. The couple needed something and it wasn't until they said it in English that she brought it to them. This review is not about the food, as messing up eggs is rather hard but about the service. It doesn't matter how long you have worked at that establishment what matters is how you treat people in order to make them return and eat there again. read more

After seeing a show at Symphony Space just across the street we stopped by the diner for some lunch. It's definitely a great diner with a lot of options for whatever you're in the mood to eat. The staff was polite and attentive especially since we had a toddler with us. The food was good and came out quickly. My only complaint is that the men's room doesn't have a changing table so I had to balance my kid in the air as I changed a diaper. read more

If there was an option to give this place no stars, I would. Upon entering, the owner stared me down and I noticed he said hello to everyone that came into the diner but me. I don't know if it's because I was black and OH MY GOD A BLACK PERSON ON THE UPPER WEST SIDE. He kept pacing back and forth and watching me. Super weird. I got the lumberjack. And I guess if you want terrible diner food, it met that criteria. I mean, how hard is it to do over easy eggs? I started a fire in the kitchen once, but I can make some over eat eggs. I had every intention of turning around a bad day and tipping my server 100% because I think that if I'm having a bad day, at least I can make someone else's better. Since I only go to diners for breakfast in the evening, I can't tell you much about the rest of the menu, but I did have the Manhattan Diner Burger. It was decent. Nothing to rave about. I have a serious love of sauteed onions and it fit the bill. The Belgian waffle was adequate as well. Once you get late in the day, you know the pork sausage is a bit old, but it's not overly dry. The portions are just right. They don't do the standard diner thing of destroying you with toast, three different meats on top of your waffle. But that's kind of what you expect, so it's a little disappointing not to see the option on the menu. But this is a "Manhattan" diner, and since Manhattanites have a lower BMI than most of the country, this could be the reason why. Portion control, America, is not a dirty word. There's free Wi-Fi if you're looking to sit a while. Just ask for the password. They don't rush you out so it's a pleasant place to hang and refresh your coffee a couple of times. Overall it's a decent diner with good service and a Yelp deal. Can't complain. read more

Looks like the just had a big makeover. This place used to be known as Key West, but it's now Manhattan Diner. It's all clean and sleek; the menus aren't even greazy yet! We stopped by for breakfast the other day. Decent food, but quite expensive for what it is. We got 2 kinds of omelette's; a egg white/vegetable mix, and a feta and spinach. It came with home fries and toast, though they were happy to substitute lettuce and tomato without much fuss. The coffee tasted like bitter gypsy tears, just terrible, and not a very good value at $2 with no refills. The omlettes were about $11-$12 each, and with the coffees it came to just over $30 for breakfast, and a very average one at that. When we left, we both had the feeling that it would have been better to get a egg and bacon bagel from the local deli and go sit on a bench in the park, than drop $30 here again. Even if you feel like going to a diner, there's quite a few places in the area that are equally good or better and cheaper (Broadway Restaurant, City Diner, etc.) You can do a lot worse but I still don't recommend the place, mainly due to the high pricing. read more

Finding a new diner in a new neighborhood of Manhattan is always scary. My boyfriend just moved to the Upper West Side after being an eastsider for the past 3 years. We were wandering around and found Manhattan Diner and thought "Hey! Let's give it a shot, we've got to start somewhere". We were very happy with our experience!! The staff was friendly and were seated right away. I ordered the pene with vodka sauce which was delicious. All their pasta looked good, actually. The prices were very reasonable too. I mean, you know its going to be good when you have two cute elderly men sitting at the table next to you - chatting about the good ol' days and a single elderly woman at the other table next to you, merely chiming into the conversations of others around her. My boyfriend had the Denver Omelet and I had the french toast. The food was delectable and the portions were perfect. Plus I just had to order a slice of that delicious cheesecake that was calling my name from behind the glass dessert showcase. The cheesecake was big enough to feed a whole family and only cost $7. Several of us came here with a local friend who dines here regularly. I understand it has recently move to this location from closer to midtown. The decor is simple, bright, and very clean. It was quiet when we got there, slightly earlier than standard dinner hour on a Saturday. The staff was almost a little too eager to take our order, coming back about every 90 seconds. There was a lot to go through on the menu, as well as about 2 dozen appealing dinner specials. I had been on a quest for good Moussaka recently, having been disappointed in many other places, and it was one of tonight's specials. It came with a side salad which was ok - just a bunch of romaine lettuce and half a sliced plum tomato with dressing on the side. The moussaka was pretty good, but it had an unusually thick topping. It also had a layer of potatoes - something I had never had before in the dish, and I was almost wondering if the topping and potato were filler to cut down on the cost of the meat. The other folks at my table ordered specialty salads. That is obviously the way to go here, The salads were HUGE and definitely a good deal here. If I come here again I'm definitely getting a specialty salad. It's good, as a diner, but with so many other interesting restaurants on Broadway, Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, it would be difficult for me to become a regular here. read more

I highly recommend the Manhattan Diner. We stayed in the Days Inn around the corner from this diner. I found it through Yelp. It was cold and rainy so we needed something close. The place was inviting and warm. Our waiter immediately greeted us at our table and was super friendly. They have many drinks to choose from and I had the hot tea! The kiddos had milkshakes. Our food did not take long at all to make. I had the large ravioli and it was amazing. The noodles were cooked perfect and there was plenty to fill me up. We also ordered a loaded hamburger, breakfast and ribs. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. The price was reasonable as well. So, surprisingly, this diner didn't have the oily-ness that I usually expect from diners I've been to. Thankfully so!! I liked the vibe of this diner, from the decor to the service. Our waiter was super friendly and accommodating. The kitchen had no problem substituting chicken for beef on one of our orders. The food came out quickly, and it all tasted fresh. The only thing we didn't enjoy were the pickles they brought to the table while we waited for our meals (they gave each of us a pickle & coleslaw). My daughter said the pickle tasted "like the subway." Sounds harsh, but it did taste kind of how the subway smells. This joint gets crowded on Sunday for brunch. Get there ahead of the crowds and you'll be fine. The menu was pretty wide with both tasty and healthy options. The egg white omelette was good. You can ask for a side order of salsa to spice it up. Totally worth it. The Arnold Palmer was refreshing and the mochachino was super good. Fair Warning: this review is based on one-experience-as-yet, will update upon continued visits. Good portion sizes for the money. One of the better pastrami sandwiches I've had in the city and didn't break the bank. UC patients can be happy that the waiter will (upon request) change things about the food around (type of bread, what comes on it, etc) in order to suit your dietary needs. Beware, however, you have to ask about things like whether the bread has seeds in it (was almost bad for me when I assumed they used unseeded rye). Overall the wait staff seems quite courteous and giving in this regard, but you will have to take charge of your own dietary restrictions. Aside from that the food was not too greasy or heavy and I left feeling pretty good. As of right now, this has my tentative approval as being UC friendly. Also, had the Popeye salad which consisted of bed of fresh spinach topped with tomatoes,cucumbers,roasted peppers,carrots,mushrooms and croutons.
