I politely asked if I could receive a refund, and the employee assisting me made a genuine effort to help, though she was unable to process it on the register. She then asked her manager for assistance. Unfortunately, my interaction with the manager or colleague was disappointing. He came across as dismissive and told me that a refund could not be issued unless something was "wrong" with the drink. I showed him that I had only taken one sip and explained that the taste was unpleasant, but I did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously. Grand Opening week. Went in, not too much of a crowd which was good for me. I went to their Costa Mesa store previously and didn't really like it so I wasn't too sure what to expect for their drinks but.. This is what my friend and I had. Hojicha Latte- 2/5 I've had better. No option to choose the sugar level or milk and the girl who was making it seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. Banana Cream Matcha- 1/5 Matcha was super watered down. It tasted like slightly banana flavored water rather than matcha. Definitely do not recommend. Strawberry Matcha parfait- 1/5 I thought it would be better. I think it's more of a "just for ig" type of thing since the matcha mont blanc was too thick and didn't seem like it matched the rest of the parfait. Service- 1/5 No real greeting, maybe they don't really train their staff's as the Costa Mesa is self serve but they seemed like they didn't want to be here. The matcha milk swirl ice cream was well balanced with strong matcha flavor, and pleasantly tangy milk. When I arrived the matcha chasen and chawan were completely dirty with older matcha orders that they have been making and then the worker wasn't even whisking the matcha fully. I ordered a creme brûlée crepe and the Hokkaido milk cone. The Hokkaido milk ice cream tastes has a butterscotch flavor and not really a milk flavor. The cone was the only highlight of this experience because it was reminiscent of a fortune cookie. The creme brûlée crepe was incredibly disappointing for $13. The sugar on top was only half toasted so there were clumps of white sugar on the creme brûlée and stuck to the crepe itself. The custard was thick and unappetizing with not a good vanilla flavor. The workers also have long hair and it's noticeably touching the mochi as they're working on it. The matcha isn't terrible but customer service and their food handling needs to be fixed. I tried their Matcha drink as I was wondering if their matcha is authentic. Long story short, their matcha doesn't seem authentic and it tasted like low grade matcha; one that you can get at Starbucks. I really thought to myself, why add "Matcha" to the brand name with this terrible quality. Also, the customer service sucked. The lady at the cashier seemed exhausted and unprofessional which was annoying since I was the only customer there even though it was their grand opening week.... I went to get some soft serve for a birthday gathering and a few things to note that I thought were terrible about my experience - first, it's kiosk only ordering but given the late hour on a Saturday 8:30pm, I literally thought they were closed when I walked up. Then I peered in the kitchen and saw 4 people hanging around. I had to shout out to ask if they were open (WTH??) and they said yes. Um okay - does every single customer coming here for the first time know exactly what do and what each item is?? Those 4 employees did not look busy at all so I'm a little confused by the experience. Anyhow, there was no one in front of me so I asked the 1-2 people that came out from the back some questions, then ordered 5 soft serves to go. Here is the worst part, they do not put these overflowing ice cream cups into a to go container (they did warn me they didn't have lids AND they ran out of napkins). The thing that makes me really upset is later I found out they have plastic cups with lids for their shakes?!?! Let's just say it my soft serves were a mess (despite being put into a to go tray) and while our group thought the roasted tea and black sesame soft serve were really tasty, the whole experience was baffling. Why hire 4 people to hide out in the back and not use any common sense when helping customers?? And how do you run out of napkins after giving a customer the most awful to-go order packaging?? read more

I recently tried a few dessert items from Matcha Ren, and they were absolutely amazing! The mochi melts in your mouth--and I've been eating mochi for years, so I can confidently say this was the best I've ever had. The crepe crème brûlée did take a little while to prepare, but it was completely worth the wait: delicious, fresh, and beautifully made.
