The noodles and garlicky kimchi were tasty but not on the same level as what you'd get at Myeongdong Kyoja (which is a really high bar imo haha so that's ok / to be expected). For those looking for a Kyoja in the US ...level set your expectations to about 65% of the quality and expect about 2.5x the price and you'll have a good time :) Deets: The garlicky kimchi was pretty good and similar to what I remembered at Kyoja. The broth however was a bit of a muted version and their dumplings are the really thick skin type as opposed the thinner almost wonton like skin of the kyoja dish. I stopped by this place on the way home from airport a couple of days ago. I had anchovy broth noodle and my wife had spicy noodle. Tasted good but not beyond my expectations. However, their shrimp/pork steamed dumplings were super good. Very well balanced flavor. White radish kimchi was really good too; perfectly sour and a bit of sweetness in it makes it just right. Located in a large parking lot with ample parking, the storefront has a temporary sign. Our party of four drove over 30 miles to try this place. Here's my honest review. Food: The food is good but a bit expensive for what you get. We were disappointed to find that the knife-cut hot and spicy noodle bowl was not as large as we expected. We also ordered the steamed pork dumplings, which were just okay. We've had better at Chinese dumpling places. When I say "forced," I mean this server loudly said, "PAY NOW," stood in front of our table, and refused to leave until we paid! We had to bring out our payment in front of her so that she could take it and rush us out! We had just finished our meal, and we would understand if she needed to close out her tender for the day. However, the rudeness that was displayed was not warranted. I don't think I've experienced this kind of direct rudeness in all my years of dining in the US. It was all too strange. It reminded us of the Seinfeld episode where the gang was in line to grab soup and was treated rudely. This place is not as busy as we expected but the quality of the food was a bit different than the one in LA/Korea. So we can understand why. Though it's been here a while, it kinda feels like they moved into an office recently and are working on renovations. The prices were a bit higher than I remembered but that's inflation for you. If I recall correctly it was about 18$ for the knife noodle soup and 18$ for the pork dumplings. Not a bad price, would consider it a good/better price if the food came out better? The soup came out lukewarm, and the dumplings were falling apart. Not what we experienced in LA/Korea where the food was hot and firm/not bloated. The service was good, everyone was happy to help and checked in occasionally. Though it wasn't very busy when we visited. Like many similar places, only regular kimchi and water kimchi were served with the food (in case you're someone who picks Korean food for the variety of banchan). The kimchis were really good though. Because we have come to have great experiences 2/3 of MDK so far we will try again at a different time of day. I don't think it deserved a 3 so 4 for now. Great for hearty and warm comfort food! MDK is known for their kalguksu, or Korean knife-cut noodle soup, and pork dumplings. They offer a few variations of each on their menu along with several other noodle soups and menu items such as bulgogi, bibimbap, etc. My husband and I came for an early weekday dinner and were initially the only customers inside, which felt a little awkward! However, they welcomed us in and more people started coming in after. We received complimentary red and white kimchi and barley tea (hot or cold) after being seated. The kimchi was a bit heavy on the garlic, but it was still good so we didn't mind. I ordered the myulchi kalguksu, or knife cut noodle in anchovy broth, and my husband ordered the spicy knife cut noodles in chicken broth. The bowls were quite large and we were pleasantly surprised at the portion size! We had been a little worried when reading other reviews but it was actually a decent amount of food, especially the quantity of noodles given. The noodles had a good texture, soft and a bit chewy. I loved how the anchovy broth was light but had a good savory flavor and comforting quality about it. We both enjoyed our bowls and left with full, content stomachs. Food did not take long to come out and was piping hot and fresh. So glad this opened up near Disneyland. I've been to the Seoul branches as well the as the KTown ones and this is just as good as those. Stopped in here when we have one last night in CA. They were one of the few restaurants that were open and offered outdoor seating. Easy to find, plenty of parking- was a breeze from where we were staying in Anaheim Hills. We were moving against the traffic flow, so no problems with traffic either. So far so good. Pulled up and saw 4 tables out front, and one of the servers greeted us and took us into their back area, where they have 4 small "tents" that cover you from the sun, as well as being relatively private since it's an enclosed back lot. We ordered a few items: Chicken kalkuksu- my mother had this, said it was pretty tasty but the noodles were chewy and flavorful. Had a few dumplings in it. Anchovy kalkuksu- my father had this dish, I wasn't thrilled to try it but he was pleased with the portion size. If we were near home he would've taken the rest with him. Mul Naeng Myun- I ordered this. It had arrowroot noodles and was unique in that there was red onions in it. I was curious but over time with added vinegar and mustard into the broth they almost were "quick pickled" so it went nicely with the dish. Plenty of noodles. Pork Korean BBQ: we shared this dish, the portion was very healthy and it came with a ton of onions. Side bowl of rice and one of soup came with this dish. This was a LOT of meat! Enough to share between a couple or three folks if you have other dishes, like we did. There was no real robust amount of banchan (side dishes), but they did provide each person with a personal helping of white and traditional Kim chee. A nice touch, given the circumstances surrounding Covid. I have no photos of the food, as I dove immediately into it once it hit the table. Sorry folks! One thing to note- LOTS of flies outside, not something that us under their control but it was slightly annoying. Be aware. Sad to see a large dining room relegated to 7-8 tables outside (4 in front, 4 in back). I saw they had a sweet plastic wrap machine that they used to seal their take out dishes and so they must do a decent amount of take out and delivery. The noodles and dumplings were the perfect texture. The soup was piping hot. It was an overall big and satisfying portion. Only this weekend did I find out that there's a Myung Dong Kyoja at Anaheim. Way closer to my stay than the one in Los Angeles. Now I don't have to travel so far for their noodles and dumplings! Initially, we thought we had driven to the wrong location because the restaurant sign read Myung Dong Kal Guk Su, but once I saw the menu, this was indeed the place we were looking for. This time my partner and I arrived at the restaurant before 6 PM. This Myung Dong Kyoja is located inside a plaza, so parking is much easier than the one in Los Angeles - whew! Similar to the location in Koreantown, the space is large with plenty of seating. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a nice Korean lady. Quick to greet and fast service as well. The first question that comes to mind when trying the same restaurant, but just at a different location is "how does the quality of the food compare?" The previous time I went to Myung Dong Kyoja, I tried their Spicy Arrowroot Noodles, but I felt like I already had too many bowls of cold noodles this weekend, so I decided to opt for their popular dish, Kalguksu (Chicken Noodle Soup), a try. My partner went for the Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. Similar to the other location, each of us were given a small plate of kimchi, and one small plate of white kimchi to share. The kimchi is just as spicy and fermented as the other location, so that's a sign of good quality consistency between the two locations. My partner's Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup arrived first, so I gave his soup a try. His broth is flavorful. The taste of the chicken broth is strong, but not overpowering in any way. Combined with whatever spice they used makes for a tasty combination! I initially thought the spice level was just good, but then it took a couple seconds before it really hit me in the back of my throat. It's not a spice level that I can't tolerate, but I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish his broth like I was able to finish mine. I did come back for a couple more sips though. My order came about 5 minutes afterward. First sip of the soup - it's such a comforting, soul-soothing broth, especially on a cold, sprinkly day. The noodles were smooth and soft, with just a slight hint of chewiness. I took my time with my bowl. Even though the bowl doesn't look that big, it came with a lot of noodles! The noodles didn't get soggy nor too soft throughout my meal. Also, we were given kimchi refills without asking - a sign of good customer service! In the end, I couldn't finish all the noodles, but like I said I did finish my soup! This restaurant surprises me every single time I came here. I tried their Spicy Arrowroot Noodles, their Pork Dumplings, and now I added the Chicken Noodle Soup to the list. When it's cold and rainy a nice hot bowl of noodle soup is exactly what you need. Fiancé and I just got off the plane and the extreme chance in temperatures from Hawaii to Anaheim was so crazy we needed a comforting hot soup! I yelped around and finally decided on Myung dong Kyoja just cause of the chicken kalgaksoo. We got here around 825 and surprisingly it was pretty empty but we were seated immediately! I got the dumplings and rice cake soup and fiancé got the chicken kalgaksoo. The broth was the same and it had a light chicken flavor that really stood out! We didn't add any extra soy sauce or vinegar cause it was so delicious and comforting on a cold night! The noodles were really delicious and chewy and it went so well with the dumplings and ground chicken. We ordered the pan fried dumplings cause they steamed ones were sold out. We loved the pan fried one but we were really hoping to get the steamed ones, I guess we'll have to Make another trip here in the future! Upon pulling up to MDK Noodles from our uber ride, we thought "did we come to the right place...?" located in a pretty barren strip mall and inside the restaurant is a no frills ambiance. Very friendly staff who seated us right away and brought two different bonchon: extremely spicy kimchi (according to my friends) and a pickled dichon/cabbage, which surprisingly grew on me. I personally ordered the veggie hot stone bibimbap and it arrived scorching hot! I was so eager to mix up all the ingredients that I forgot to take a picture (doh!). It will be unlike any you've tried at other Korean restaurants. I came here with my mom to enjoy a hot bowl of kalguksu and enjoy their kimchi which is one of my mom's favorite. I really want to give this place a better rating because of the service, but I was a bit disappointed when I received my cold noodles. The portion isn't that big for the price, and there wasn't much in there besides a bunch of cucumbers. It's probably refreshing during the heat, but it was a bit lacking. The bibim guksu should have had a different sauce, but it was flavored with the same seasonings common to NaengMyun. It came with a side soup (yooksu - a Korean bone broth, usually served piping hot) that was lukewarm at best. - Overall the taste fell flat Then the smallish pork dumplings. Undercooked and the center of the dumpling was barely warm. When I ripped apart the dumpling the pork was PINK. They did remake it, but then the dining experience was off. - There is no binder like egg or flour in the meat mix - It falls apart cos it seems to be green vegg (Buchu), ground pork and some ginger - I have had better Overall not a great value. Pricey without providing good food. Each dish was $12.99. About $26 b4 tax n tip. There are so many other restaurants where you can get more food/value/way better taste for that amount. Light chicken broth, nice chewy noodles. luckily they had the broth separated for take out b/c we Huge portion, I couldn't finish the noodles, and my toddler enjoyed it a lot as well. pork and shrimp dumpling- the dumplings were super plump!! Expensive....but the noodle and dumpling combo, I couldn't finish it. bibimnaengmyun- my husband got this and it was the least favorite. Normal tasting but I think I wasn't feeling this type of noodles. So we barely ate it. He of course ordered chicken wings and tacos from other places. FATTY. the kimchi! OMGoodness. LOL that garlic is STRONGGGGG. unfortunately too strong for our taste. I really wanted to like it. BUT holyyyyyy. overall satisfied with my two chosen dishes. located out in a random lonely plaza, plenty of parking. definitely on the pricier side...I think? This is a very authentic Korean noodle restaurant. You can tell by that most customers there were Koreans, even Korean grandmas. That meant they were legit! We tried their chicken noodle soup, a cold noodle, steamed pork dumpling and most interestingly soybean noodle soup. Chicken noodle soup: 9/10 good flavor and combination of ingredients Cold noodles: 7/10 it's a bit sour for our taste Pork dumpling: 10/10 thin wraps with flavorful pork and veggies, I want another one just thinking of it! Soybean noodles: 7/10 hard to describe it since it was my first time ever trying soybean noodles. It's like noodle soaked in thick unfiltered soy milk. Very interesting combination. They served it with a bottle of salt as it was very bland flavor. I had some leftovers and the next day tasted better than the first day! We will come back to try other noodles and more dumplings! read more
