I've been going to Mee Mee bakery for years and love their fortune cookie "flats," the ones about the size of a silver dollar. Also, their sesame cookies are tasty treats. The cookies are very consistent in taste and freshness, except one time (years ago) when the taste of a bag of "flats" were, well, a bit flat. I have read some comments regarding their service and have not had any problems with how I was treated. I don't expect 5-star hotel service from the workers who have generally been fine. Did you know Chinatown had two fortune cookie factories? I didn't either. For the longest time we went to Golden Gate Fortune Cookies for our fix. Well we dropped by here today and picked up 2 bags of oops cookies (the flats) and a bag of mini almond cookies. They carry fully formed fortune cookies and multi colored ones. There were also old school Chinese cakes made into a shape of fishes and other objects. The lady at the counter was nice. No samples but their cookies cost less than Golden Gate's and they didn't sucker me into paying for a reusable bag like GG did. The factory is at the back of the store and you can see the employees making the cookies. The flats were not as sweet as GG's which is good. It's a small family run business that consists of the parents and their son. Each experience that I've had, both the dad and son have been rude to either myself or an elderly customer. They have no patience and instantly get annoyed of their customers especially towards the seniors. The last time I was here, I was waiting in line to pay for my cookies behind a nice grandpa who gave the dad who was at the register the wrong amount of money. I am bilingual, so I understood what he was saying to the grandpa. My girlfriend and I took a stroll in here after dim sum nearby. I have been buying fortune cookie coins, almond and sesame cookies from them in the past. I am really thinking about taking my business elsewhere. The older woman the man the cash register have the worst customer service attitude for a shop owner. She also figure out it she can rip you off or not. For a simple plastic bag when I am buying several package she charges me fifty cents. It is not much for me but her attitude and the surrounding store are either giving it away to you for free when you spend over $30 or charge you a nominal ten to fifteen cents. I was waiting in line and the woman purchasing similar multiple items she told them in cantonese that here is a free bag to put your purchases into. When I was next she just stared and added fifty cents to the purchase. I maybe a fourth generation ABC but I do understand Cantonese and Mandarin. JMHO Additional comments. I just read other recent review, I see that the family that owns MeeMee Bakery is TOTALLY disfunctional being so rude and obnoxious to customer. I am planning to walk one block over to Ross Alley (on Jackson between Stockton and Grant) where Golden Gate Fortune Cookie is located. This store needs to learn about customer service. I thought the mother at the cash register was the mean one, reading the comments the whole family is just rude. If the owners are reading this, just remember your business depends on customers. Without customers, you have NO business to operate. With social media, the word will get out and customers will go elsewhere. The RUDEST man I have ever met works here. Went to San Francisco and the husband wants me to come pick up some cow ears crackers for his parents. I quickly googled it and it brought me to this place. The husband drops me off and tries to find parking in Chinatown (everyone knows how difficult it is). I walk into the store and I stand there for a while as I see an older man on the side packing some cow ears in bags. He doesn't greet me, just continues to pack them into the bags. After about 5 minutes, I walk over there and ask if I can buy some cow ears crackers. He says that its not for sale right now and to come back at 2pm. I'm a little annoyed as I can see him packing it right then and there. Its only 1:15pm. My husband couldn't find parking, so we decide to go to the Ferry Marketplace to check it out before coming back to Chinatown. I got back to the store at 2:30pm after I get dropped off. I nicely asked the same man if I can buy cows ears crackers. He then rudely snapped, "Come back at 3pm." Annoyed (because this is my 2nd trip back to Chinatown), I said, "You told me to come back at 2pm." He then yelled, "Don't be late next time! Its all sold out. Come back at 3pm." At this point, I'm shocked and left the shop. I eventually come back at 3pm (I already wasted so much time- I better get these damn cow ears). He's still sitting at the side packing the crackers in different bags and doesn't acknowledge me. At this time, other customers come in asking for cow ears crackers, and he abruptly tells them that they are sold out and to come back tomorrow. After standing there for 15-20 minutes, he finally acknowledges me, and sells the 4 bags that I ask for. I pay, get my crackers, and leave. No thank you or anything. I hear that sometimes they sell these same cow ear crackers at the Fortune Cookie Company. After reading all of the bad reviews about this place I was prepared for the worse before entering the bakery. However, the experience was nowhere near what the negative reviews on here depicted. My boyfriend and I walked in grabbed what we wanted and when we went to pay my boyfriend asked for a bag of cow ears that were behind the counter. The man handed us the bag of cow ears with no problem and no attitude. The fortune cookies, almond cookies, sesame cookies, and fortune reject cookies were tasty and just what I expected.
