I bit too sweet for my taste. I ordered the Curry Beef Hombow and Pork Hombow. They were nice and hot. Unfortunately the pervasive sweetness ruined the overall experience. When you're in a touristy spot, you expect to pay more for things. But siu mai was $2.06 each piece!!! That's just taking advantage of folks. You could go into any reputable dim sum restaurant and order 4 pieces for $3. The bbq pork bun was okay. The coconut dream bun was more bread than filling. Yum! I tried hombow in a failed attempt here last year and finally made a return trip for the true thing. Seriously... why did I think it was a good idea for my first one ever to be freakin' vegetable version? I hate cooked carrots! This time I had the BBQ pork- what I would consider a true attempt at tasting. The bun/roll was tender and moist- the filling sugary and good- just wish there was more of it. The pastries tempted me along with everything else in the little display cases. I will have to fit a pit stop in there next time I am exploring and want to try something new. It was under three bucks- cheap compared to the others things that I was picking up during my stroll. No complaints from me- but there must be better- even being a novice at international cuisine I pick up that vibe. read more

All I can talk about is the baked BBQ pork humbao because that's what I get every single time. It's amazing. Fluffy, slightly sweet, perfectly baked bread surrounding a center filled with tangy BBQ pork. So so delicious and so so cheap. I've made it a "tradition" of mine that whenever I go downtown to visit my favorite coffee shop, I always stop at Mee Sum and get a BBQ pork humbao for breakfast. Its quite large but not too big. Ahhh gigantic pork hum bow....warm, fresh, and delicious with the perfect intermingling of flavors. One of the best places to get a [freaking delicious] hum bow in Seattle. A bit pricey but hey, you get what you pay for. Also, they take credit cards which is definitely nice. Though this is just a 'walk up, pay, leave' sort of place, not a 'sit and enjoy your food' sort of place...so don't expect to have a place to hang out and enjoy your hum bow. Except you're right next to Pike Place, so why would you be sitting around anyway? Go explore and buy some delicious fruit or random artwork! read more

Always wanted to eat here as a kid when I'd visit from Yakima. Once I had a taste of their humbow I wanted more. Fast forward to and at the age of 20 I was performing in the area at The Moore for "Jerry Springer: The Opera" and every night I went there for dinner or between shows for the days we did 2 shows. I made sure to tip generously and by the second time I did I was given some product, gratis. I still tipped generously every time without expectation for free things. I love local eateries and I will always support this establishment and enjoy their food. read more

Pork Hom Bow, I want you now! I can't believe I've walked by this place so many times and never stopped to check it out. I'll never ignore you again Mee Sum Pastry! The buns are big and fluffy. The pork is perfectly balanced with sweet and savory. One will fill you up if you just want something to tie you over until your real meal. I got two because I didn't know what I was going to have for lunch yet. Even after the second bun got cold it was still really satisfying. I really enjoyed the food at this bakery at this shop outside of Pike Place Market. The buns were so, so good, especially for a Chinese American who sees these snacks as a comfort food. Everything was hot, fresh, and like homemade. It's a little stand, great for a snack. No seating. read more

i think their vegetable bao must be super good. i went the day before around 3pm and they were all out. but i was persistent so i went back today and it just so happened that i bought the last one! holler for that dollar! i love portable food so it was good! i am not to picky with light eats to pull you through and get you through your day. all in all i got some sesame balls, a vegetable bao (bow) and a pineapple bun! all good eats! read more

Decided to grab a Curry Bun and a Wife's Cake. The Curry Bun is delicious, nicely seasoned and well spiced. There was a good amount of kick. The Wife's Cake is very similar to the ones that I used to get from Taiwan so they were exactly what I wanted. Really yummy! read more

A solid 4 stars. Yummy fast good buns! It's a small stand with no sitting room but you can pick up a bun and walk around Pikes. So good!!

Buy the crab rangoon. Buy 3. It'll ruin you for all other crab rangoon, but it is SO WORTH IT. Yes, they've other great menu options - the BBQ pork is quite good - but I always go back for the crab rangoon. Is it wrong of me to want to visit Seattle right now just so I can head to Mee Sum? Coming from an Asian country, I have easy access to Cha Siu Baos, Hum baos or whatever baos you can think of. I'm a self-proclaimed Bao expert. XD The bbq pork filling is slightly different from what I've tried. There is an ingredient that is used here that isn't used in the cha siu back in Asia. However, I do have to give two thumbs up to their Zong Zi. I was craving for some Zong Zi a few days back (it's a glutinous rice dish that contains pork that is wrapped in some leaves. Mee Sum includes peanuts, which is a first time for me but it works) because it's traditionally eaten during Duan Wu Jie which is today. I work in the market and Ive eaten here several times. I've had a few things - least favorite was the chicken soft bun because it was dark meat and it wasn't fresh in my opinion. The meat was very rubbery-like and I had to discard it. My favorite is the beef curry bun. The flavors are so good in that thing! The reason for only 2 stars.. this is the third time that I've gotten the beef curry and my bun is not cooked all that way! The dough was so undercooked it resembles mozzarella cheese (there is no cheese in the bun). I purchased two for $7 instead of one bun because there is a fee to use your card if the transaction is less than five dollars. Anyway, I get to my car eat my buns and I took one bite and had to throw them out. All I could taste was dough. I felt sick. It's a shame because I really like this place, but this summer I wasted around $20 throwing out buns because they're not entirely cooked. I don't think I'll be coming back. It's a bummer when you're starving and spend your money on something that you end up throwing away. Pictures are attached. read more
