    Humbow for the game
    Jessilyn C.

We ordered some humbow, almond cookies, and sesame balls to take to the ballpark to watch the angels vs Mariners. It's been our favorite for 21 years. We lived downtown next door to pike place market, and mee sum always hit the spot. Reminds me of the dim sum places in Chinatown San Francisco. It was my nieces first time in Seattle and wanted her to try all of puke place had to offer. Even though it's a 30 minute drive for us, I'll always pick up some fresh humbow and sesame balls from Mee Sum. Not that personable at the window, but who cares as long as we get our delicious dim sum.

Food: Finally tried the popular baked pork bun here! I would say it's an 8/10. I loved the texture of the bread. it was soft, fluffy, and flavorful. there's a decent amount of pork and flavor filled inside as well! Service: I honestly thought they were pretty rude and were not very helpful. I asked one simple question and was snapped back at like she was annoyed and was rushing me. Ambiance: Pretty popular and easy to stop by as you're walking by on the streets! There's no inside of the store you can go into. You order outside at the front and your order will be given to you

Pricey but worth it for some things. There is no inside, the line starts outside and the space itself is a small booth. Service was good, the line moved quick and everything was made fresh. Out of the food we tried the most worth it was the bbq pork steamed bun and the crab rangoon. Would come back for those.

Mee Sum Pastry was a great quick stop while exploring Seattle. I stopped by for a BBQ pork hom bow, and it ended up really hitting the spot. The bun was soft and fluffy, while the pork filling was flavorful, slightly sweet, and generously portioned. It's easy to see why this has become such a popular item and a staple for many visitors to Pike Place Market. The bakery itself is a no-frills, old-school stall that adds to its charm. You walk up, order, and take it to go. If you're walking through Pike Place Market, Mee Sum is worth a stop.

Not really the Hong Kong Mee Sum I was thinking about. They have a section of pastry and a section of fruit tea (a long line for fruit tea). I got moon cakes to try but it failed to impress me. Literally stuffed with red bean paste with no other ingredients inside. Tasted one dimension with no texture. It's a take out place. No chairs no tables. They are efficient to pump out the drinks tho.

This little store serves one of the best sweet-savory pineapple pastries I've ever tasted! I've stopped by 3 days in a row during my stay in Seattle. I've gotten the beef curry hom bow twice and the chicken hom bow once. They serve you a freshly baked warm pastry every time you order. The pineapple top is flaky and crispy and the inside is filled with a delicious savory center. The only downside is how steep the prices were compared to LA or the Bay Area! A small plate of siu mai costs twice as much as the ones you buy a dim sum restaurant. Definitely worth visiting if you're looking for a yummy quick bite though.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PLACE!! i tried their pork buns and matcha sesame ball. the pork was nicely tender and had a good flavor to it. the matcha sesame ball was delicious and my fav. the dough was good amount of greasy. it's filled with black sesame filling which was u expecting considering it being matcha, so it didn't really give matcha. but i love it and would absolutely recommend it!

I went to Mee Sum in the late afternoon and was happy to see that their usual line was not very long. I ordered a Vegetable Hom Bow and a red bean sesame bun. It seems like they are known for their pork buns, but I'm pescatarian, so I was happy to see some veggie options. I really loved the red bean sesame bun. It was the perfect consistency with a crispy outside and doughy inside. The vegetable hom bow was not my favorite. The texture and the bread was nice but the flavor of the filling was a little too sweet for me and reminded me of ketchup. I'm sure this place is popular for their meat pastries, so maybe next time I'll try one with seafood.

Delicious pastry shop in Pike Place! Try their matcha sesame ball and pineapple bun as well! Fast service! 5/5 - Baked BBQ Pork Hombow - Well seasoned pork in a warm and soft bun! Filling and savory. An absolute must try if you visit this bakery!

I have a hilarious story about Mee Sum Pastry. I grabbed a BBQ pork hom bao to share with a friend, and while I was enjoying my half, a tiny bird swooped in like a ninja, snatched it right from my hands, and dropped it on the ground. Shockingly, that half bao met its end faster than I could have eaten it! My friend, feeling sympathetic, kindly offered me her half. The bao itself was tasty. I've had similar ones near home for a bit less, so the prices here are slightly higher than what I'd expect for Chinese pastries. But if the birds are anything to go by, they give it a solid 5 stars! The wait was a lot shorter than what social media shows, but it could also be a slow season for tourists.

This place is truly iconic - it's been around forever and remains a beloved institution at the market. I always make a point to stop by for some combination of the char siu skewer, baked hum bow, and sesame ball. They also offer classic Hong Kong and Taiwanese-style drinks, hot meals, a wide selection of Chinese pastries, and even have a dedicated boba shop right next door. Service is quick and casual, dim sum counter-style. You order at the counter, pay, and they assemble everything right in front of you for takeaway. It's efficient, no-frills, and exactly what you want in a market staple.

A Chinese buns and dumpling stand. Very popular stand for a great reason. Very delicious bbq pork buns. Line may be long but service is pretty quick. We also tried curry buns and shrimp and chive dumplings. All were very delicious and defenetely will return to get more.

First thing we tried at Pike's! We got the steamed hom bao and baked hom bao. I generally like the baked version, but the steamed one came out hot! Both were really good so I would recommend both. For $5, it's pretty steep though. As someone who frequents the SGV, the prices and taste really can't be beat there.

What happened? Pre-made potsticker wrappers? No chili oil? I'm completely disappointed, Mee Sum.

The menu looked pretty authentic, so I was excited to order and dig into the $6 Food Walk special. The restaurant makes ordering easy: there's a kiosk right in the front for takeout, or for eat-in, there's a QR code to place an online order at each table. It's a pretty casual place, with self service water and bussing after the meal. Braised Pork Over Rice ($6) - The menu shows a picture of minced pork rice (滷肉飯), but this is actually braised pork belly rice (焢肉飯). They include two small pieces of pork belly, fatty and flavorful, braised until tender. There's half a braised egg, cooked homestyle (e.g. until there's a green ring around the yolk), which is quite flavorful just by itself, being marinated and braised for hours. Some pickled veggies helps cut through some of the fat. The special part of this dish is of course the meat juices and braising liquid that soaks to the rice. It adds a bit of a sweet and soy element as well as fat to help make the rice even more tender, yet not mushy. (4/5) The food I ate tasted pretty good, and the menu is interesting enough to revisit. Seems like Gourmet Noodle Bowl is another win on the Food Walk front! Note: They also offered a Food Walk $6 "Shin Ramen Bowl" special that I didn't get. Based on the name, is it just instant ramen?

The sayap ayam pedas was a huge portion for just 2 people, but we couldn't stop eating. The combination of soy sauce and fish sauce was not overpowering at all and the chicken itself was so juicy. The chicken curry in the nasi lemak was delicious with the coconut rice. Along with the anchovies, egg, peanuts, and sambal, it was a choose-your-own-adventure kind of bite. The kaya toast was the perfectly sweet dish to balance out all the flavors. I especially loved dipping it in the poached egg for a satisfyingly runny bite. I left feeling so full, but so motivated to come back and try more dishes. Highly recommend!

They have a focused food menu, with a handful of soupy options, a handful of saucy options, and some sides/starters. As I was trying to just get a quick lunch, I went for just a bowl of the spicy peanut noodles. Probably would have ordered more if I had time for a more leisurely lunch with company, but the bowl that I got was the perfect amount for one person. The combination of the creamy, savory peanut sauce coating the noodles, with the crunchy tangy smashed cucumbers, is lovely. I will say that the noodles are...not spicy.
