This is a super cute place with lovely bright colors for decor and a friendly staff too. They have nice outdoor seating and plenty of room inside. The chips arrive promptly with two kinds of sauces: red salsa and green chili queso. Both were very tasty. Really nice place super close to the Hotel Del Coronado. The vegan enchiladas have a nice medley of veggies including sweet potatoes and grilled corn off the cob. The rice and beans are pretty standard and could have a bit more flavor. Seeing vegetarian tamales on the menu was a real surprise and treat. While the flavor was good, I found the Maza a bit thick and dry. It needed more sauce. I want to give this Miguel's six stars! Our group of eighteen from our senior residence toured to Miguel's Tuesday evening for dinner. We had a number of requests in order to our visit possible. Miguel's cheerfully met them all. We ordered off the menu and had a variety of entrees. All raved about their choice. The food was well prepared and delicious. It was served hot and beautifully presented. Both food and drinks came in a very timely manner. I can't say enough good things about our waitress! She was so efficient and never missed a beat. First of all, I had no idea this was a chain until I looked it up on Yelp to write my review. We actually had made reservations at a different restaurant and just had an incredibly strange experience when arriving and thus decided to divert and go elsewhere, which brought us here. We got to sit out on their patio, which was tucked away behind a couple stores, it was very jungle-like and fun! So happy that the chips and salsa were free (because many places now-a-days, they aren't!) and it actually also came with queso! I have never seen a Mexican restaurant give out free (and actually good!) queso for free, so that was awesome! We ordered the Fajitas Supremo and the Camarones Jalisco. Miguel's at Christmas time is a fun experience... when you finally get a parking spot. The Del attracts enormous amounts of people to the area, and Miguel's couldn't be more in the middle of the hustle and bustle. It makes it that much more fun getting to have a great meal, and walk outside into the madness. Make sure to make a reservation, and get there early. When I think of Miguel's, I think of their queso blanco. It's real good and I've gone multiple time just for that and a beer. I had the shrimp quesadilla this time and i was impressed at first bite, but not so much after that. It was very soggy on the bottom, causing the shrimp to fall out, making it very hard to enjoy. The taste was good, but not $23 good. I'll stick to the fish tacos next time. We had a group of 17 people with us, and our server was great! I can't remember his name but he was very accommodating with all of us showing up at different time given the painful parking experience. Even with a party that large, the food comes out in a very reasonable time and the staff made sure our drinks never ran out and our chips were always full. read more

In Coronado, they have food places everywhere so depending on your cravin, it can hard to make a decision. I've been to other Miguel's, and this one here is NOT like the rest. It's way better. Where to begin and how to end... let's just say I had a few Blood Orange Margaritas, a custom plate of tacos which consisted of swordfish, Carne asada, & chicken tacos along with a side of rice and beans. We also had the Carne Asade taco plate and another custom plate that consisted of a Carne Asada a burrito and a side of rice and beans and oh yeah another ultimate margarita during a happy hour which was only $5. I've tried Miguel's in multiple destinations. One would expect similar type of quality but I had better food in several other locations. They are local here so we visit them every so often. We like Mexican food a lot. Flavors are mostly flat lacking authentic taste. Services is typically good. Everyone is trying to take care of you. I think revisiting how to improve flavors and authenticity is key. But I suspect the mindset is - hey this place is touristic - people come and go. Complementary (and bottomless) tortilla chips were tasty and salted well, and the "Creamy Jalapeño White Sauce" provided alongside the quite tasty salsa was a great touch. The margs were good; I thought the skinny was best. My carne asada burrito was flavorful and savory and, while smothered, not a pool of goopy mess. This is not about the food at all. It was alright kinda the same like you find anywhere. It is the Service.... Wow!!! I have never been to a place where you make reservations for a large group and got one waiter who was not around took 50 mins to get drinks, almost 2 hours for food .. they had extra help around and yet 1 waiter for 20+ people and he never gave a hint of knowing his job or understanding what the job in tells. What I mean when you get the customers to help you use your own registers to split a bill of so many people and still charge them that 18% for a large party tip.... Is ridicules. Ambiance, yes. Bottomless chips, yes. CHEESE SAUCE, YES YES YES. Miguel's has been one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego since my late teens/early twenties because it is the perfect place to meet up with a group of friends, especially for a dining out experience. Despite there being multiple Miguel's locations throughout the county, we used to drive 30 minutes from north county to Coronado just to go to this location in particular because of the ambiance. Owned by a restaurant group that also owns the Brigantine (another one of my favorites), the service is consistent every time I've been (even when we were a rowdy group of teens). It gave us something to look forward to after a long week of school. The food is always great quality but where they really shine among the plethora of Mexican restaurants in San Diego is the Jalapeno white queso sauce that they serve with chips (and salsa) when you sit down. It really is so good that my friends and I would end up filling up on it. We actually had to look up a dupe recipe and try to make it ourselves. I'd recommend Miguel's for large groups, families, tourists, and locals alike. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Miguel's after enjoying the Lightshow at the Hotel Del Coronado. It was only about a 25 minute wait, which was great on such a busy night. Our server was Anna and she was OUTSTANDING! She anticipated every time I was about to run out of my drink and she brought another one. She also offered the white rice substitute with my enchiladas to make it a vegetarian plate. We had complimentary chips with salsa and queso. The queso is fantastic! I had the black bean and corn enchiladas, which was one of the few vegetarian options. It had great flavor but wasn't that hot by the time they brought it to the table. My husband had skirt steak fajitas but the first order had a long black hair in it. Gross! The manager was apologetic and offered to remake it. My husband said the remake was better than the first one! I was surprised she didn't order to comp anything at all (not even my Mountain Dew!), but we still tipped generously because every staff member we interacted with while we were there was phenomenal. We got to the Coronado location in time for brunch today. Ordered the huevos rancheros. Really nice. My friends ordered burrito trio, chicken mole tacos and a chimichanga. Everyone reported that they enjoyed their food except for the shrimp burrito from the trio. Shrimps were over cooked and rubbery. We ate outside and had to flag a waiter down each time we needed anything but they were very nice and attentive. The food and drinks came out quickly. Not really able to make reservations but found a 25-30 min wait which dropped to about 10 min by the time we got a spot. Staff was friendly and seated us quicjly and waiter was attentive. Ordered some drinks but the jalapeno margarita I got lacked punch and didnt seem stiff ebough for my likiing. I am SO bummed to write this, as Miguel's used to be one of my favorite spots on the island. We came on a Thursday evening, and I couldn't wait to devour a margarita and my fav fish tacos. We ordered margaritas to start, and we couldn't even drink them. :( They had SO much orange juice in them - their color was actually orange. And my jalapeno cucumber marg had loads of jalapeno, it was way too spicy (and I like spice!). The chips, salsa, queso, and guacamole were tasty! We loaded up on those. For the entree, we split a half chicken/half steak fajita and while others came out sizzling, ours did not. I also ordered 1 original fish taco (I've been getting these for years and am obsessed) and I could actually see a grey color in the fish through the breading. It was also not as flaky and crispy and it used to be. So bummed! I do like that you can order tacos a-la-carte. All in all, our service was super low, and the food was just okay. I know times are tough with staffing and supply chain, but I was truly disappointed in our Miguel's experience this time around. I know that I'll be back because it doesn't feel right going to Coronado without a stop into Miguel's, but hopefully next time, things have improved! read more

I'm so disappointed. I remember Miguel's used to be craving inducing Mexican food. I finished a BIG two month project and wanted to celebrate. I ate on the actual cantina side because the wait was 10 minutes. I ordered the two chicken red sauce enchilada combo. I'm not down with the tomato sauce /enchilada sauce and it was thin textured and bland. I'm sure the flavorful chicken with green chiles on the inside was disappointed with its counterpart. The rice was quite dry and the beans were meh. I did make tortilla chips, beans and salsa delights because the coconut margarita needed to dance with something. It's not everyday you can treat yourself but when you choose to with food, it should be delightful. Honestly, I should have gotten a one-hour reflexology treatment. Stopped by after a long day birdwatching. First thing to hit the table was the chips and salsa, of course. My wife and I were both surprised at how bland it was. We thought this was a bad sign at first, but it was actually just a sign that they don't oversalt things here than they do in our previous home (Texas). My wife got the Caldo 7 Mares, which she HIGHLY recommends. Seven different kinds of fresh seafood in a broth that was flavorful but not too salty.
