The two times I have tried the baked goods, I bought a large order of varieties for a group, and both times the food turned out stale and hard, very disappointing. I asked why next time and it turns out they finish their baking by 12-2am the previous day and serve that baked goods starting 7am, so everything is 6-8 hours old by the time it's served. Sorry but that's not the right way to do it. You should start baking at 4am to serve hot fresh soft food to customers, not the stale hard baked goods you have now. 1 star not recommended. read more

I've been going here for years and just noticed the last 3 times i've visited in the past few months, the pastries just haven't tasted like they used to... The butter croissants were stale & had no flavor, the kouign amann was dry & hard, and the macarons were strange... Their tartes seemed to be the same, but their croissant pastries were really disappointing. It seems as though the quality has gone down. Was the bakery sold recently??? First, the building itself is very pretty, street is beautiful too with the old church right across the street. Feels like a little part of Europe. Second - the pastries!!! Very disappointed in how the quality has dropped at Le Reve. We have been going to Le Reve for over 6 years and over the last year we've experienced a huge drop in quality of ordered cakes and pastries. For the holidays last year we had mold growing on the fruit of our cake and another cake so dense and dry that it fell apart when we tried to cut it. Today we ordered some pastries to take on a trip tomorrow, but they got our order wrong and charged us for items that we never received. Upon contacting the bakery, I was told that the only way to get reimbursed is to drive all the way up to Queen Anne again, try to park, and go in to the store in hope that the current staff believe that we were over-charged. It is too bad as this used to be such a good bakery, but we have experienced just too many problems with this bakery over the last year. Unfortunately, we will be finding another place to find our French baked goods and will no longer recommend Le Reve to anyone. read more

Disgusting. I ordered a berry muffin and it tastes kinda dry/stale. Like maybe they over baked it by a couple of minutes and it has been sitting out all day in the open air. Also, to my surprise it has shredded coconut through out. BUT, the sign didn't say it is a berry AND coconut muffin, only berry. If I would've known about the coconut, I wouldn't have ordered it. The muffin was $3.95 and was large. I'm so disappointed, I don't even know what more I can say. I've been to France numerous times, I can't say this reminds me of a French bakery at all. I recommend you go to the one in Pike Place instead. It is far better and I think the pricing is similar. Or, if you don't care about the French part go to Dahlia Bakery instead. Stopped in earlier today hoping to find a good/decent baguette. Ended up paying $5.45 (!!!) for a squishy, mediocre loaf of sourdough in the shape of a baguette. If you're going to advertise yourself as a French bakery, then make sure you actually know how to make French baked goods. This "baguette" lacked the necessary "crunch" from the crust that is the marker of a good baguette; a few more minutes in the oven would've been nice. Frankly, I could've gotten a similar, if not better, one from Trader Joe's down the street for less than half the price. This place is not worthy of being called a bakery. It's more of a wine-seller (and not the best at that) producing mediocre baked goods that don't even contain the advertised ingredients. The staff is rude, disingenuous, and has no customer service acumen whatsoever. Living on top of Queen Anne Hill has its perks. Le Rêve is one of those treats. The pastries are always delicious and not overly sweet. Their Kouign Amann (pronounced queen AH-mahn) is a delicacy not to be missed. A twice-baked almond croissant makes for a fantastic treat, too. Their savory items never fail to satisfy either. Give their Brioche Breakfast Sandwich and Brenton's Breakfast Salad a try. The cafe is relaxed. There's no hurry to get in and get out. Sit and read the Sunday Times or read a book while enjoying their food and coffee or espresso. The staff is very friendly and helpful in calming nervous questions about French pastries. read more

I have been coming here for years and we love their pastries or their breakfast sandwich. Highly recommend those but stay away from the other lunch or breakfast options. The last 4 times have been hit or miss and the last trip being the worst. I ordered the avocado toast without the fried egg, and it was beyond unacceptable to be served. Brown avocado that was past ripe, barely smeared thinly (probably less than a quarter of an avocado), no seasoning, dry toast. We won't be going back for a while... super sad. read more

DISCLAIMER: I am a moron. Excited to pop into Le Reve today for a meeting, I had already figured out that I'd be ordering a latte, macaroons, and likely a croissant of some sort. Based on glowing reviews and lovely photos, I knew I was about to love this spot. But here's where I went wrong. I came back from a vacation late last night. And as I was unpacking I recall switching purses (from a large travel purse to a smaller daily purse) and spotted my ID, my credit card and my debit card floating loose in the bottom of the big purse. I even told myself, "Don't forget to transfer these into your other purse tomorrow!" So guess what I did? Yep. NOT that. So I grab my purse, my laptop and car keys and head to Queen Anne. I hit up the register and just as I placed my order (mouth drooling and tummy growling) I squeal and tell the cashier that I accidentally left my card at home. So embarrassed I smile and tuck my tail between my legs. I'm still here to meet some folks and we get our meeting underway. Then a latte appears. FOR ME! Now I would NEVER recommend forgetting your wallet (or even pretending to) but I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the guy felt so bad for me that he made me a latte anyway. It was a lovely holiday season gesture. I knew I was going to love this place but it's these small gestures and experiences at local businesses that make using Yelp so awesome. I simply could not wait to get home and write a glowing review about the generosity I experienced here. It's those small favors and gestures that stick with you through life and make you loyal to places, people and businesses. I'll be telling EVERYONE to support this shop. The pastries are pretty decent, especially for Queen Anne, which tends not to have the best food options in the City. The problem is the service is really slow. I just waited 15 minutes for 3 people to be served. Go to a bakery in Paris or New York or San Francisco or any City and things actually happen. You pay and get your food and drink. Here, it's like molasses. Anyway, come here if you have all day. The food is decent. Bottom Line: these folks need to hire more people and become more efficient. read more

"Le Rêve" translates literally to "The Dream" in English and let me say, it was pretty dreamy. Not dreamy in like a Ryan Gosling/Channing Tatum/James Franco sense. But dreamy in a, "these baked goods are so good, I must be dreaming" kind of way. I ventured in on a Sunday for brunch and I realized how woefully little I have appreciated Upper Queen Anne. There's some cool stuff up there! I'm going to make a point to go up there more often. I have just scratched the UQA surface with Le Rêve. Right as you walk up you notice the cute garden exterior. If the weather is nice enough, I'd recommend sitting out there. If the weather is not nice enough (which is fairly likely if it's not June, July, or August), the inside feels very homey and comfortable too. It's not flamboyantly decorated, but the paintings on the wall do enough to make it feel sufficiently decorated. They have a sexy selection of pastries and stuff. Typical French options. Croissants, danishes, crepes, muffins, etc. There are even some things that you will struggle to pronounce unless you're intimately familiar with the language of love. They do have a lot of different croissants. The almond croissant looked delicious, but I couldn't bring myself to order it this time around since I had already ordered my weight in bread by the time I saw it! I tried the Kouign Amann, the cinnamon twist, and the crepe. All were very good. I'd get them again if there weren't dozens of other things that looked good that I wanted to try. I really enjoyed my crepe, but the Kouign Amann was probably my favorite. It's so incredibly dense and buttery on the inside. They should just call it the "I can't believe it's not butter" because it tasted like I was eating warm flaky butter. At least that would be easier to pronounce! The street parking is a little difficult, but keep looking and you'll be rewarded when you arrive at Le Rêve. I was very surprised that there really weren't very many people in there on Sunday at around 11 am. But the service was prompt and friendly and I've never been one to complain about a good thing. If you're looking for a quick bite for breakfast/brunch/lunch, Le Rêve is a solid choice. I'll certainly be back. read more

In a previous Yelp! I reviewed a wonderful little bakery here in Bend, Oregon call Sparrow Bakery. I compared it with a French Bakery in Yountville, California called Bouchon Bakery and I also mentioned a Bakery called Le Reve Bakery & Café which is about half the size of Bouchon but equally as good! My review today is about Le Reve Bakery & Café located on top of Queen Anne and is essentially part of downtown Seattle. This place is always abuzz with the local yokel's and those of us who have been blessed with the discovery of this incredible bakery paradise. What makes this bakery so special is that it is double the size of Sparrow Bakery and has triple the fantastic French-style baked goods, not to mention Le Reve only carries Olympia Coffee Roasting Company coffee, and wow, what amazing coffee! Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. won the Micro Roaster of the Year award for 2013 and that includes the entire US. And they somehow also have access to some of the best beans in the world. I digress, now combine that with an incredible breakfast selection and lunch sandwiches, it makes for the kind of place you wish was just down the street from where you lived. The décor is so French with white wainscoting walls and black counter tops; a very quaint little place that I think you will really love. The first thing you see when you walk in is the glass counter with all the baked cakes and along the top, croissant pastries and sandwiches. Just behind that are cookie sheets of bacon and fresh biscuits. This was a great find! Thank you Le Reve Bakery & Café for the wonderful memories and being a fantastic part of my community. P.S. This may be the closest to France I've ever been, which is a whole other sad story in itself, yet this happens to be a happy story that unfolded one sunny day on a beautiful garden patio in a Parisian cafe. My mother, my youngest son and I all taking a walk together, stumbled upon these delicious smells wafting out of a charming red house on Queen Anne ave. The five minute walk from the car, being sufficient enough for anyone with a two year old, justified a passing through the garden's black iron gate to rest our weary souls in the warmth of a cup of coffee and the necessary Kouing Aman, which is something like a croissant turned inside-out and glazed with butter and sugar- sometimes known as crack. It got us through our shopping anyway and we were back for lunch. Turkey, cranberry & caramelized onion croissant with an apple, blue cheese & brie baguette and a bowl of summer squash soup. French conversation, delicate flowers and heavenly flavors surrounded us. We may not have Paris, but we will always have Le Reve, with its beautiful gardens, beautiful baristas and beautifully smooth cups of coffee to go with the goods. read more

Kouign Amann . I have been wanting to try this pastry for ages. I tried Honore, they were sold out. Crumble & Flake, also sold out. Bakery Nouveau, closed. So when I sauntered into Le Reve on a Sunday morning, I did not have high expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it sitting, majestically, in the pastry case. As soon as I saw it, I knew there really was no point in even looking at anything else. The Verdict? Perfection. And this was hours later after taking it home. I was super confused as to how to eat it, it looks more like a little cake than a traditional pastry. But I just bit in, and then about died of happiness. I shared a little bite with my boyfriend, who was impressed as well. I can't explain the taste, but it was amazing, and I loved the texture. My boyfriend had the cinnamon twist, which he loved, and I agree was good. We also picked up a twice baked chocolate croissant for a friend, which looked amazing as well. It took a lot of will power to NOT eat it. The reason only 4 stars though: Macarons. I was very disappointed. I tried both the strawberry and the chocolate mint. They were huge, and only $1.95. But it was really crumbly and didn't have a great texture. The flavoring was fine though. To be fair, I did take them home, put them in the fridge, and take them out a few hours later to get them back up to room temperature before eating them. I would be willing to try one again next time I am there, right from the pastry case, maybe it was the amount of time. This place is super cute though, and I love the Upper Queen Anne neighborhood, especially on a nice Sunday morning when all the locals and families are out and about. 2.5 really. We really were charmed by this place when it first opened up. The owners are moms and local residents. There were to be manners classes at Le Reve for the tween set, so I figured that it was a family friendly place. A previous poster suggested that people leave their kids at home but that is *NOT* likely on Queen Anne. Plus I've seen the owners kids in Le Reve from time to time and the location is close to schools. There are going to be kids here. Duh. The twice baked croissants used to be great. Not sure why they are embellishing the chocolate croissants with a fat squiggle of ganache, or putting a bright green pistachio whipped cream thing prominently in the display case. I've seen people wander in and promptly walk out after looking at the display case. Might be the preponderance of colored creams and frostings. The best items, like the quiche, or the turkey sandwich are either on the counter or from the menu. And you'll only like the quiche if you like super fluffy eggs (ie: eggs spiked with lots of cream or half and half). Today we ordered on whim from the specials- a french onion soup and a grilled cheddar cheese on oat bread. The soup was delish but mostly covered with bread and cheese and not much liquid. The grilled cheddar was a dumb decision on my part, but seriously, it was like cheese whiz spiked with pimientos spread on two pieces of fat bread. Sad and not a good product, nor a special item. Since it has been hit or miss lately, I really hope they step up their game and survive on the hill. Usually I find us going to Ballard for great pastries and would love to stay in the neighborhood instead. Hence, continue your dreams at Le Reve Bakery! Actually, I have a second and third reason of getting here on a Saturday morning. My meetup French group meets here at 9 am, and being a francophone/phile you make it happen -- there's nothing better than to receive french salutations (bisous instead of hugs). The other reason, lies in this house turned into a bakery. Imagine a house in which the first floor had an expanded kitchen, where bakers and baristas worked tirelessly to bring a cornucopia of pastries,cakes, quiches, sandwiches and breakfast meals. Then as you ate and tried each of the baked goods, each one would bring a sense of comfort and reverie. Great little bakery and breakfast spot. The cafe is small, but they have a great little outdoor seating area. It gets cramped as you're waiting to order but it leaves you plenty of time to browse the desserts and choose some treats to take home for later. Ordered a cappuccino and a brioche breakfast sandwich: field greens, tomato, bacon and a fried egg on brioche. It was warm slightly greasy goodness. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious, thought it was a bit steep at $9 for a breakfast sandwich but it was very good. To go ordered a chocolate mousse tart: decadent dark chocolate mousse, raspberry preserves on the bottom to cut through the richness, and a chocolate crust. Incredible pastries! Not sure why this place got some bad reviews recently. I was on a hunt for some tasty baked goods in the Seattle area and happened to come upon Le Reve. (My first imagery was some Cirque du Soleil like people from Le Reve in Vegas serving pastries in all kinds of contortionist positions.. but don't worry, this isn't the case.) Very happy to have found this hidden gem. Apparently it opened 4 months ago. It's located in the Queen Anne neighborhood in well-maintained house from the early 1900s. Very quaint and warm place. As you walk in, you are welcomed by sinful aromas of delicious baked goods... just the way I like it. I had a sampling of items, all of which were awesome: - Kouign-Amann (sp?) (pronounced like Queen Aman suposedly) - it had a perfectly sweet glazed crusty outside with soft and buttery inside. So yummy. - Twice-baked almond croissant - one of my faves. So butter, crisp yet chewy, and sinful. I love almonds and remembered the saying "wow" in my head when I took a bite of the almond covered top. - Pesto croissant - surprisingly delightful and savory. I like pesto with my pasta so initial thought was pesto in a croissant?! I thought it'd be too overwhelming for a baked good but it was incredibly tasty and one of my friends raved about it. Very different but a must-try! Didn't get to try the cakes and cupcakes. Very lively and happening on a Sun afternoon. Service was extremely friendly - the lady who I think was the owner came by to ask how everything is. Parking was abundant on the street. Bottom line: You bet I'll be back whenever I'm in Seattle. I came here as the beginning of an exploratory adventure and what a great start to the morning it was! This bakery is awesome! We came here specifically to try the kouign-Amann so... we obviously ordered the kouign-amann. It was pretty spectacular. I honestly wanted another one and I would have stuffed it into my mouth and had puffy chipmunk cheeks while humming happily to myself. Alas, I didn't want to embarrass my companion so instead I continued to drink my Americano which was also well made. They DO carry almond milk if you prefer that in your espresso drinks. This place smells amazing when you walk in and everything looks delicious. Help yourself to the water jugs at both ends of the restaurant or order some espresso. The two workers were very sweet and quick to their varied tasks. When we were getting ready to leave another patron overheard us discussing the origins of the kouign-amann and we thought it was a French pastry but were told it is actually a British pastry... which it isn't. It's a Breton treat which would make it a French treat... so there ya go. I learnededed you something. As far as the pastry itself goes... it was buttery and flaky much like a croissant but what sets it apart is the caramelized sugar. Though the decor and setting are nice enough, and the pastries are surely a 4 out of 5 compared with the meager alternatives locally, out of town guests from other cities should be warned: this is hardly the French bakery it pretends to be. The corn-starched fruit tarts are a major disappointment (real pastry creme needs nothing of the sort; and if you must use something, use tapioca), and the lifeless and flavorless croissants are inexcusable. I'm thrilled that QA now has an actual bakery at the top of the hill! Fresh bread, buttery pastries and yummy savory soups - there's no need to go down into the city center for lunch anymore. Loved the pomme de terre - a potato salad goat cheese and ratatouille; and the roasted tomato bisque - fantastic tomato flavor that balanced the potato salad. The upcoming classes and events that are hosted by the bakery are the cherry on the cake, so to speak. :) I'm looking forward to the truffle making classes just before holidays although I may eat more than I make. Service was good, low-key and polite. It wasn't busy while I was there but I can see the weekends being much more crowded and hectic. This is my first time visiting Le Reve Bakery and I have to say I do wish that I ordered something else. I got the twice baked chocolate croissant and it was super intense. it not only had chocolate and almond paste inside, but it was also caked with powdered sugar on top. I felt a little sick after. I do think that this bakery has a lot of good things going for it- first of all the employees are great! I have been looking at what other people have been ordering and their dishes look super good so I want to come back and try something else. Absolutely delicious twice baked almond croissant! There is a good amount of the delicious almond filling and I like how they put a lot of the filling on top of the croissant as well. That way you get this delicious almond shell on top of the crispy croissant shell. I am even going to put this out there that this could be second in the city to Bakery Nouveau's almond croissant. I know, I know there is Besalu, Honore and Le Fournil with great stuff too but Le Reve really did it well. I can't say anything about the rest of their products because I didn't try them (really no need to mess around with other things when almond croissants are available!). I will say that everything looked really good though and their case of individual desserts and cakes looked amazing. I have fortunately been able to return here an additional 2 times and I have not been disappointed by almost anything. In reference to my previous review, the free biscotti that I received was THE best biscotti that I have ever eaten. Seriously!! When I saw them giving me the biscotti for free I was thinking that I was not going to eat it because they are usually hard and difficult to chew. OH MY GOODNESS!! The biscotti that Le Reve prepares is delicious with fresh whole hazelnuts and buttery shortbread. It is very EASY to eat and it isn't hard as a rock. I have finally found a biscotti worth eating. I did return for their twice-baked almond croissants. And you know what? It was a completely different experience for me in an AWESOME way. Honestly, I don't like hard and crunchy croissants. I will throw them away. But this bakery takes it to another level. The croissants are crunchy and a bit hard, but the crusted sugar on the outside makes the croissant worth eating and wanting more. The almond filling on the inside was different than any that I have ever ingested and was completely heavenly. I'm usually a fan of the light and fluffy almond croissants from Le Boulangerie in San Francisco. I am a fan of this croissant for completely different reasons. Yes, the croissant is on the overly-buttered side, but according to fellow Frenchpersons croissants are usually more buttered in France. For me this is a definite must-have. The drip coffee is okay, but not my favorite. I prefer my coffee a bit stronger. It may have been the brew that day or not. The lattes are pretty good and standard. I have also had the cranberry-orange bread pudding. My bf ordered this actually. I wasn't a fan of cranberry-orange anything until I had the bread-pudding here. On first look, you think that is might be a dry bread pudding, but in actuality, it is moist. Everything under the golden brown top is moist and the creamy goodness on the bottom adds more depth and texture. The cranberry-orange mix wasn't overpowering and too perfumey in taste. it was perfect. The croque monsieur here is delectable. The baguette is warm and soft. Very easy to eat and chew. The ham and gruyere were perfectly balanced with the dijon mustard. It was very satisfying. This bakery is now one of my faves along with Trophy cupcakes. It has somehow made baked-goods, flavors, and textures that I absolutely loathe and avoid into something deliciously wonderful and worth eating again and again. Whoa! What a sneak-attack this was. I had never heard of this place before we walked past it. (OK, fine, I'd heard of it on my Yelp app 5 minutes before we passed it.) Anybody who appreciates a French bakery should make a stop here. They bake everything in-store the morning they serve it, and you can tell. The breads were unbelievably fresh-tasting, even at 2pm. I had the French onion soup, which was good. I liked how the cheese didn't overpower it and make it difficult to eat like what happens at some places. If you get a bowl, they serve a portion of "monkey bread." You should get the bowl just for the monkey bread. I have no idea why they call it that but I'm going to have it served at my second wedding. It was soooooo good. I'm not even sure how to describe it, other than there was hidden melted cheese inside. The table also shared some sort of almond chocolate croissant. Everybody else thought it was the highlight - I preferred the monkey bread, but I acknowledge the croissant was terrific too. Two of us got the Gobbler sandwich, which Wifey especially was ecstatic about. Wifey's sister got the lentil soup and thought it was fantastic, as well. They had a nice assortment of pastries, tarts, cookies, etc. I didn't try any of those but I imagine those (like the croissant and my monkey bread) are the things to keep your eye on here. La Reve Bakery & Cafe will assuredly win your favor very quickly. Once you witness, or just whiff, the interior and its contents, you will be hard pressed not to start spending money. Most everything you taste will be incredible, and you likely won't walk away with out bringing something back with you, right Zach? We can with a group of people, doubling brunch with pastry sampling. I started off with an Egg, Bacon and Cheese Croissant. This buttery, glistening sandwich was nothing short of amazing. It went down fast. You thought it was good too, right Zach? We couldn't help but get into further trouble. The Bacon and cheese pastry was fantastic and delivered on its promise. We highly recommend it. Also of note were a great lemon tart, a tasty eclair, a chocolate croissant, and some confection called Kouign Amann. We're not entirely sure what that last one was made of, but whatever it was, it's worth the fancy name. All of these things were great, and we took home tens of dollars of goods. We couldn't resist, right Zach? You have no excuse not to come to La Reve when you're in the Queen Anne area. Unless you want to not have a taste of happiness, right Zach? read more

Even while in Paris recently I found myself comparing the croissants we were eating to the ones at Le Reve and I have to say, Le Reve had most of the Parisian versions beat. The croissants are a perfect amount of flakey, buttery, heavenly goodness. Their food is excellent as well. Recently had a salad niscoise that was very tasty. I have always had good luck with the quiches and the sandwiches. The tarts are all delicious with the perfect balance of cream to fruit ratio. Coffee is decent. The inside seating can get a little cramped, especially on weekends and more than a couple of times I have found myself on top of Queen Anne on a Tuesday and been disappointed that they were closed.
