    - plenty of parking out front, it's situated within an apartment complex - it's compact inside and not too study/work friendly, though good for chatting - there was so much variety in the menu! It seems they introduce new flavors and drinks pretty often so that keeps things interesting - staff was super sweet! We went near closing but she was still accommodating and attentive (1) shizouka matcha (rich for +$1) - it was so bright and refreshing! The aftertaste of the matcha was creamy and almost fruity? It was very enjoyable. The 25% sweetness was perfect for me (2) double matcha: - a more indulgent drink with that cheesy matcha foam - it's slightly lighter in matcha flavor compared to the first drink but still tasty! - this matcha flavor profile is more mellow

Excellent matcha!! Hidden between apartments and corporate buildings, you wouldn't expect to find quality matcha tucked away here. Service is fast and everything I'm looking for in searching for a legit matcha place Tried Guava matcha which was great because a lot place don't do them. Def recommend I would also recommend the Hojicha Extra points for having multiple options for Japanese matcha from different regions!

I didn't expect to like this place, but the moment I turned my head and saw displays of Marukyu Koyamaen matcha, as well as seeing it being used in their kitchen, my eyes lit up. I knew that was a sign that their matcha was going to be legit. What I ordered: Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte DRINK: 8/10 I think next time I'm going to order a plain Iced Matcha Latte with no fixings. The Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte was good, but the strawberry tasted a bit too sweet and artificial for my liking (it's actual strawberry puree as the owner mentions below, which is worth mentioning). I could be wrong, but I think without the strawberry, the matcha itself would shine even more. SERVICE: 8/10 You order through the self-kiosks, and my drink came out really quickly. Serving was very straightforward and quick, which makes sense since this is more of an in-and-out kind of spot. AMBIANCE: 7/10 A cozy, tiny spot that's more suitable for grab-and-go. There are a few indoor seats, as well as some outdoor seating, but I'd probably come here more for the drinks to go than to hang out.

    1. I love the creamy texture of the matcha, and I can definitely taste the pistachio nuts! The sandwich was also well-crafted! 2. The spot has chill casual vibes! The interior is cozy! 3. The staff was friend and timely with my order! It was ready in about 10 mins! 4. There are indoor and outdoor seatings! There are few tables! 5. Garage parking and timed front parking spots are available! Note: I did not easily see a restroom available for customers! Photo: Honey Spicy Chicken Sandwich and Creamy Pistachio Matcha

I had this place bookmarked for a while so was excited to finally try this spot given its good reviews. Upon entering, you see the place has very limited seating and limited outdoor parking as well. I got the Shizouka matcha latte. The staff asked if I wanted original, rich or extra rich, so I picked extra rich for more matcha flavor. It wasn't until check out did I realize it was an extra $2 charge! The staff didn't inform me of this so I ended up getting the original. This drink was quite disappointing. For a place that specialzies in their matcha, you can't taste much matcha flavor at all. A lot of people seem to be getting their flavored matchas so maybe that's what their better for, but just as an original matcha latte, it's a hard pass. I also tried the Sesame Cloudy hojicha which comes with a biscoff biscuit. This too, didn't have a good blend of flavors. The hojicha was not very strong and the sesame flavor was only in the powder they sprinkle on top, not the actual drink. I also tried their foods, the Unagi grain bowl and Garlic chicken breast bowl. They both came with a decent amount, had some veggies and corn. Flavor itself was good, not too outstanding and the unagi had quite a few tiny bones in there. For a place that had limited seating, if you came at a busy time, you'd really have nowhere to enjoy the food. Although majority of people come just for drinks, they also sat around to drink too. Given the quality of food and drinks, the price was also on the higher side. Overall, would probably pass if you're looking for a good drink spot given other better spots in Irvine.

    Michelle ..

I've been on a blueberry matcha grind, as I still feel a plain simple matcha latte is best made at home. Mori's matcha definitely delivered on the flavor here. I noticed they prescoop their fruit puree/jam(?) in cups to store in their front display fridge. There is a kiosk to order or you can order at the front with a staff member if available. Several signs posted around the store with special flavors & an opportunity for free Assam milk tea with Yelp review. I got the blueberry matcha with 75% sweetness. I tried to sip the matcha first without mixing too much, but with 1 stir I could already taste the blueberry. A few stirs in, I was drinking a perfectly sweetened blueberry matcha, but I was concerned about the rest of the blueberry puree still at the bottom of the cup. Next time, I would further decrease the sweetness since the puree is quite sweet after mixing all the way. I needed to wait for the ice to melt a bit to balance this. Otherwise, the puree itself had bits of blueberry that I could taste, would get again!

I was in the area and was looking for a coffee shop and this place popped up. I tried the banana cream matcha and it was so good!! Probably one of my favorite banana matcha's ever. They also use the marukyu koyamen matcha which is my favorite matcha too. It was easy to order as well. They had a kiosk to put in your order and I was able to get my drink in less than 5 minutes. If I'm ever in the area, I will definitely be going back for sure!!

Cute spot, not much seating. Outside seems limited parking (they aren't too strict with the time limit i think), but there is a parking garage behind the cafe (not the ones across in the parking lot road but the opposite road from the street). Kiosk order. Pretty fast but more of a to go spot The matcha was not too sweet, got 50% and it was a bit grassy. They have lactose free whole milk and oat milk. The guava matcha is just guava jam with matcha, but balanced. They also have various rice bowls. The hojicha had a slight roast flavor and wasnt too grainy or strong in either way, the cream top is not super creamy and didnt come with too much. Overall like medium tier quality, decent portion. Come here for a casual local fix thats close by to the university

Best cream top in OC? I said what I said We got the guava matcha latte and sesame cloudy hojicha. Not to mention how perfectly the cream top complemented the hojicha drink. Their matcha is so good too the bitterness is really there in the best way. Only downside: we got there around 9:30 and they opened at 8:30, but there were only a couple sandwiches left so come early if you want food too! MOri's is so close to UCI in Irvine, so save this for your next cafe run!

Good quality. Speedy service. There's a kiosk to order at or you can talk to the staff. The matcha is a nice green but I'm not sure if it's better than other places in the area.

??? I don't understand how they remain 4.6 stars. Staff are not really professional and friendly. ( service is fast tho) Don't order coffee here . Coffee is terrible... I ordered iced latte and signature matcha latte but both are not good so I am not sure what is this place good for... latte is very watery . I don't think they use whole milk . Also for the matcha? I think they use very cheap syrup ....

My favorite matcha spot in OC/Irvine!! Mori's matcha is such a gem located in irvine. Ever since I've tried their banana cream matcha, I couldn't stop thinking about it since. The ceremonial matcha is top grade and beautiful fragrance that makes you keep coming back for more. The store is small but the baristas are very friendly, quick and efficient. The wait time is little to none because they're so good at making them so efficiently. The quality is always so consistent. I've tried the banana cream matcha latte, pistachio cream matcha latte, sesame cloud Hojicha, and blueberry Hojicha. They're all so delicious but my favorite is their banana cream matcha, 100/10!! If you're a matcha fan, give them a try!! You will not disappoint.

Yummy Taro Matcha! Swung by UCI and stopped at this spot on the way back home. Not too sweet which I like, only issue is the taro was stuck to the sides of the cup! I used a spoon to scrape the rest of it once I was done with my drink. Service was friendly and my drink was ready super quick. Outside seating was nice, although in the middle of some apartments or something. Just make sure to park in the structure, there's a lot more parking and it's free!

We recently visited Uban Plates again and were surprised how much it has improved. As far as service, it's more of a self-served restaurant and no one is available to serve other than just bring the food to the table. I had the grass-fed steak with broccolini and Moroccan chicken stew and hubby had the same grass-fed steak but he wanted mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. The steak was perfectly grilled and seasoned. Sesame broccolini had great flavor and tasted so good. Wish portion is a bit larger for the sliced steak. Hubby loved his selections and the lemonade. After today's experience, I honestly don't want to return as either a driver or a customer. The employee working at the pickup area was extremely rude and disrespectful toward delivery drivers. Before me, there was another driver waiting for an order, and I watched this employee dismiss him in a very rude tone, telling him his order wasn't ready and gesturing with his hands where he should go and where he should stand, as if he were ordering people around rather than speaking to them respectfully. Then the same thing happened to me. When my order was handed over, I had already started confirming the pickup in the Uber app. I pressed the first confirmation button but simply hadn't had time to press the second one yet. Instead of politely saying, "Could you please confirm the order?", this employee grabbed the bag back from me, held onto it, and pointed at my phone, telling me to press the button. He refused to release the bag until I completed the confirmation. I understand that restaurants need drivers to confirm orders before leaving. That is absolutely fine. What is NOT fine is treating delivery drivers disrespectfully or physically grabbing an order back instead of simply asking for confirmation like a normal professional interaction. I told him that the way he was behaving was not okay. He did not apologize, and nobody else apologized or addressed the situation. Delivery drivers are people doing their jobs and trying to earn a living, just like the employees working inside the restaurant. Being an Uber Eats driver does not make someone less deserving of basic respect. I hope the management of this Urban Plates location sees this review and addresses this employee's behavior. Someone working with customers and delivery drivers should know how to communicate with people respectfully. Treating regular customers politely while treating delivery workers as if they are beneath you is unacceptable.

I'd rate the Peruvian Steak an 8.5/10. The bread was perfectly toasted, the mustard added just the right amount of kick, and all of the flavors complemented each other well. It would have been a perfect 10/10 if one side of the bottom bun hadn't been completely soggy from the mustard spilling out of the sandwich. I ordered my sandwich to go, so if I had waited until I got home to eat it, I think the entire bottom of the sandwich would have been soggy. That was disappointing. For to-go orders, I think Mendocino Farms should automatically serve the mustard in a separate sauce container to help prevent this issue. My other qualm was with the pickup process. When I received the text that my order was ready, it read: "Your order at Mendocino Farms - 10 - UC Irvine is ready for pickup. Please proceed to the counter." Some restaurants have signs explaining whether customers should grab their to-go orders themselves or wait for a team member to assist them. I waited patiently at the counter for several minutes while a team member saw me standing there but didn't acknowledge me. After about five minutes, I finally asked, "Can I grab my order?" The process felt confusing and could have been communicated more clearly. Overall, I thought the sandwich was delicious and a great portion size. However, I think the to-go process could use some improvement. I ended up eating my sandwich in the restaurant because I could already see the bread becoming soggy when I picked it up, which wasn't part of my original plan.

I used to come here way more often back when I had recurring appointments in the area, but these days I rarely ever find myself in South OC. Tonight, however, I had a last minute opportunity fall into my lap when I was invited off the wait list to attend a Yelp Elite event at Onyx Golf. Naturally, I had to make an "unnecessary" bakery detour before moseying my way over to the actual main event. Listen -- you have your priorities and I have mine. We listen and we don't (critically) judge! Upon arriving to my old stomping grounds, I immediately went for my usual: the hojicha Basque cheesecake. Some things don't need to be reinvented. It's still rich and creamy as ever, and it's basically the reason I still come back to this place. Since I don't get down here as often anymore, I figured I'd live life a little more frivolously and grab some items I haven't tried before, such as their prime beef curry, kurobuta miso sausage, honey toast, and a GF brownie. My plan for a sweet treat quickly evolved into a larger commitment of carbohydrates, but honestly, I'd like to think of these items as a gift from past me to future me. Brio Brio is also running a promo right now where you get a free cookie with purchase during certain hours. I just want to be fully transparent that I don't remember what those hours are or how long the promo is running, just that it's a weekday ordeal. I know, incredibly insufferable Yelp Elite reporting on my part. You'll simply just have to go in and ask them about it or look for the signage near the register, and then purchase that item you need to qualify for the deal to begin with. Consider my review a very detailed advertisement about a potentially complimentary cookie that idk how to explain the sourcing means for. Lmao, my bad, y'all. Either way, it was refreshing to visit again after all these years. If you're stopping by Brio Brio, you really need to get the hojicha Basque cheesecake. That's singlehandedly the menu item I'll keep coming back for, even when it means I'll be suffering in rush hour traffic on the drive back home.

One downside was a man who continued to smoke on the patio despite being told it wasn't allowed, though fortunately, he didn't smoke the entire time.
