After a lovely hike at Hellman canyon my friend and I stumbled across this cute sandwich shop in uptown, the menu has a wide variety of sandwiches, salads and sides! I had the spicy Italian and my friend had the tuna melt, both were delicious and satisfying! The tuna was well seasoned, plenty of provolone cheese and the Italian was stacked with meat! I want to go back to try the potato salad, they were out by 2pm on a Saturday, must be good! The prices are very fair for the size of the sandwich! Whenever I'm in Whittier this will be my go to place! Also--there is plenty of tables and chairs to dine in, lots of cool Hollywood inspired art! I lived in Whittier my whole life and it was my first time coming to this little joint. I came to try a wrap after my workout, the lady was super sweet at the counter and if this review was solely based on her I would give it 5 stars. BUT I ordered a CHICKEN salad wrap, and I swear on god I thought I got the veggie wrap. I swear on the lord himself that I only had 8 cubes of chicken in my wrap. Like I paid 8 bucks for lettuce and tortilla basically. It also came with my choice of salad so I got the pasta (veggie pasta with Italian dressing) it was ok just overwhelmed with Italian dressing. I am going to give this place one more try in the future and maybe tell them to add more chicken because I was hoping for some decent protein after my workout . read more

I ordered the Danny boy, (which is corned beef w/ coleslaw) I added bacon and had it on squaw bread. Oh my, what a pleasant surprise. This sandwich was more than I expected, it was delicious. They have fresh juices, I grabbed a carrot juice, it was so good. This is my first time here, I'm a local and a sandwich lover. I will be back sooner than later. This place is OK nothing really stands out about it. I took advantage of the online ordering and place an order to be picked up to save time. It was very convenient, but they have way to many options for bread and then sizes of the sandwich. Also, what does fresh mean? You can order your sandwich fresh. I hope all the sandwiches are fresh. Anyways, when I finally got home to eat my sandwich I had ordered online, it was missing the banana peppers that I added. Went to check my receipt to make sure I added them and I did. That's nice, so make sure if you are ordering online that they add all the ingredients you request because they might forget. Returned to Mr. Sandwich for our second visit. A couple of big plusses for me : the man who seems to be Mr Sandwich, made a point of washing his hands after he handled my cash register transaction and before he began to make our food. Got to love that! He's always smiling and friendly. On this visit we opted for takeout , as my boyfriend is still under the weather. I was the only customer about 1 hour before closing on a Saturday afternoon. I wanted to make sure that there was no mayo on my guy's sandwich. The previous time , when we dined in , he had gotten an Italian submarine type sandwich and the cashier had asked him if he wanted italian dressing on it and he said yes. But we didn't hear her mention, or she didn't mention, that there was going to be mayonnaise also. My boyfriend ate it , maybe he should have taken it back up to the counter and ask for it to be remade. But he didn't. Neither one of us likes mayo on that type of sandwich. So, on Saturday, he wanted a pastrami sandwich. And just to make sure , I asked the man behind the counter if there was mayonnaise on it. And he replied , " on pastrami?". I explained that I was just making sure and why. A tuna melt sounded good to me, so I ordered that. Went out to check on my boyfriend who was still in the car comma and came back to see that almost everything was ready. Most of our items were lined up on the counter. Macaroni salad, chips I had asked for for my boyfriend , and the fruit I had ordered. Mr. Sandwich was nice to get me a fresh container of fruit. I had asked for one without too much honeydew melon. I am allergic to that. And since my guy wasn't feeling too well I wasn't sure how much he would eat. I was a little disappointed to see both of our sandwiches go into the microwave. When I got home with mine , the wax paper seem to be really stuck to the outside of the sandwich. I couldn't peel it off without taking the bread with it. So the birds got some of that. But the worst thing that happened was this : the pastrami sandwich came with pickles on the side. Everything was in one bag , and as we were driving around finishing up the errands on our list, my boyfriend noticed that the bag was tipping over in the back seat of the car. He tried to grab it so it wouldn't spill , but the bag ripped. Once we got home and I started to haul everything inside , I figured out why. The pickles had been wrapped in paper , and pickle juice had leaked everywhere! Then the bottom of the bag ripped out. The pickles package fell on the ground along with some of the other items. When I retrieved the pickles , they had been wrapped in the paper also with no tape or anything. And apparently I grabbed the wrong end because the pickles all flew out onto the ground! And they looked and smelled like really nice dill pickles. 4 quarters of a big green Dill pickle. Too bad. No pickles for us! read more

Ok, I have been here before and didn't review. I remember before ordering something (not sure what it was) but after ordering and paying, I was told that they didn't have it. Today was no different, ordered a meatball sandwich and a hot roast beef sandwich. After paying for the meal, was told they didn't have any meatballs. Then I noticed the person making my sandwich put the meat in the microwave to warm it up. Really? I would expect to pay a premium price for a sandwich that was prepared correctly. I'm definitely not going back. Subway and Jersey Mike's don't do that. Also, the people who ordered after me got served before me and it seemed they knew the guy preparing the sandwiches. Hmmm. This place is an Uptown classic. It's been there since the mid-'80s, when my dad's office was across the street in the old Bank of America building. I haven't had a sandwich here in probably ten years, but I do remember them being good. The interior is (or was) kind of weird in a fun way, but the one thing that sticks out in my mind is the prices. In the 1980s, the sandwiches were ridiculously expensive. This place is average. If you work I. The area and are in a pinch for time grab a sandwich and chips. I ordered a pastrami and there was not much meat at all. They got homemade Jalapeños con Zanahorias!!!!! I normally wait for the second visit to write a review, but I was impressed with the Tuna Sandwich and the jalapeños. My husband had the ham and bacon club sandwich ($8.25). For the price of the club I expected it to come with a drink and chips. When I saw them slicing the ham and layering it sky high, I was like okay, not bad. My husband said "It was good... Worth every penny." 'My son had the mini meatball sandwich and enjoyed the meatballs, but not the bread. I want to come back and try the soups. They only have soups M-F. The guy said they make everything from scratch which always wins me over. I do think it's a little pricey, but they've been in business forever so I guess people don't mind.
