I bookmarked Nana's while in AZ back in December. Finally in the area giving me the opportunity to try the popular "Nana Soul" meal. Growing up on Soul Food & BBQ, those were the two types of food I really missed when I started my Veggie/Vegan journey 20 years ago. As time progress & creativity enhances, more & more plant-based versions are popping up & with good/familiar taste. This is the place to enjoy both Soul Food & good ol' BBQ - Veganized. To that point, the Nana Soul comes with a choice of Fried Cauliflower or BBQ Ribs (made with Gluten & Soy), Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, Greens & a Cornbread Muffin all for $16 - can't beat the price. -BBQ Ribs, savory sauce close to real yet boneless = A -Mac & Cheese was ok, bland & similar to a box made, not old fashion = C -Baked Beans were good with just the right tang, yet a tad bit too sweet = B -Greens were cooked just right & spot on with the seasoning = A+ -Cornbread was way too sweet, I was anticipating the "from scratch" taste, not the sweet cake = C+ Side Orders: -Potato Salad was spot on just like Lulu Mae's, circa the '70s = A+ -French Fries perfectly fried, not greasy & with seasoning = A -Ranch Dressing tasted more like a Tartar sauce as I'm a Ranch fanatic = C. The portion outweighs the prices of this family-owned & engaging establishment with quality service. Rob, the young man behind the counter ensures all customers are welcomed & accommodated. I'll be returning sooner rather than later to try more options. Unfortunately, I won't be back. Service: The customer service was non-existent. No one seemed to be working there until our food was brought out. The server dropped our food off and didn't ask if we needed anything, didn't check on us, & we didn't see him again until we walked out and he was chillin outside. Food: The food was WAY over seasoned. Everything was either really sweet or really salty and eventually all started to taste the same. Underwhelming. Environment: The place could be cute but look unfinished still? Also, no soap in the bathroom. Overall I wanted to love this place for the simple fact of it being vegan and black owned but it sadly disappointed. read more

I've been to Nana's a couple of times since I discovered it and they never disappoint. I'm glad I didn't live in the area because they would take all my money. This is my 2nd favorite restaurant in Phoenix but my overall favorite vegan restaurant in Phoenix. I ordered the Nana soul which had cauliflower , Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese. I added a side of potato salad. Everything was so good my only wish was spicyBBQ sauce. I've also had the BBQ ribs they were so good. I didn't even eat ribs when I wasn't vegan but I know they didn't taste like this. lol Chik'n waffles yummy XM burger very good They also gave me a sample of the ugly cake it reminded me of a softer, sweater, version of cornbread but it was really good. I love their gumbo and chicken fried burger but I was very disappointed with their French fries. They were soggy, no taste and warm or just old batch. I wanted to tell them refry me new batch of French fires but I did not. Other than that everything I had was great. read more

As a carnivore, I was genuinely stunned at how much I enjoyed my dining experience at Nana's Kitchen since it's a vegan restaurant. A friend and I walked in and were greeted upon walking up to the counter to order food. There were so many tempting options to choose from that it was hard to just settle on one, so we opted to split the nana's soul platter with plant based ribs, and the Nashville sweet heat catfish. The catfish dupe was tasty, and the sauce on it was delicious. The true star of the show for me, however were the ribs. My jaw dropped at how good they were from the seasoning to the sauce to the texture. I will be having dreams about those ribs for weeks. The cornbread, mac, and greens were solid as well. The restaurant is definitely more of a fast casual dining experience so go into it knowing that and not expecting a five-star sit-down. I cannot wait to return and try some other items on the menu! Definitely recommend even if you're not vegan! read more

Nanas kitchen in Chandler and Nanas food truck in Pemberton PHX are hard to beat!! They have some thing that no one else can compete with, and they might even know it. 100% vegan Southern comfort, food.?!? From their collard greens, mac & cheese, ribs, Philly cheesesteak, peach cobbler...Can you go wrong?! I've had food at both places, and I feel like I've tried a diverse range of their food . My personal favorites so far is the mac & cheese, the lemon pepper cauliflower wings, and the ribs. If you can get these before they sell out there must try (and that statement is mainly for the food truck in phx Pemberton). So since I love the food, why am I giving them three stars? Well, let me tell you. Whether it's the food truck or the Chandler restaurant and that's a loose term to use because you order at the iPad and then they bring your food out. I find the prices to be incredibly high!! But they are busy so maybe they see no issue with it. I do. I'm glad I tried them out but it's a difficult one to eat at regularly when you're spending nearly $70 on dinner with no server, no silverware, no glass cups, no refills... That leads me into my other concerns .. I've been VEGAN for many years, and I fully support all vegan restaurants & restaurants that offer a vegan entrées ! BUT, being at this location and seeing how busy the restaurant was with dine in patrons, I couldn't help but notice how everyone had plastic containers & plastic cutlery & plastic cups when all of us were dining in.. you probably see where I'm going with this? People want to eat in the restaurant I think Nana's could save them self the cost of ordering all this plastic just to throw into the landfill. If they got reusable metal or glass cups, reusable silverware (plus eating with silverware is preferred!), plates.. I know this would involve having a dishwasher, but think of all this plastic going into a landfill!? Because that's exactly where it's going! We can't be ignorant to the fact that the Earth only has so much land & plastic is not biodegradable and rarely recycled /recyclable... So if the owners or managers are reading this, yes you have wonderful food and people do love you, but let's think of the impact long-term when you can look back at your impact and how you made choices that impact this planet in the long run for your children and your grandchildren. Food was a 10/10. I got the Nana's Soul XL plate. The wait was ridiculous. I ordered my food at 1:28p and received it 1hour and 10 minutes later. I saw others waiting for a long period of time just like my family of 4. Thankfully we as well as everyone else were patient in waiting. No one was disrespectful. Did not like seeing one of the cooks eating while 15 people were waiting and only one cook was cooking. There needs to be a greater sense of urgency from the whole team. My suggestion is to post a notice that meal prep and cook time will vary, to let the customers know in advance about a potential long wait. I would love to support this business again when they are able to manage their time better. read more

This hit the spot no questions asked! If you're plant based and cravin that soul food, this is a must. This plate in the pictures I attached to this review, was worth every penny! Me being filipino just needed some rice with it but man o man... Cant say enough about how delicious this food is. Portions are a good size too. Worth the price. We went to Nana's kitchen yesterday1/9. The guy at the counter was very kind and helpful. I got the catfish sandwich it was not the best . I believe the guy said it was made with mushrooms and that was ok but the mushrooms stuck together like it was a fatty piece of meat (I know it wasn't meat) and the brioche bun was soggy by the time I ate it which was right when I got in the car. I was not impressed by that particular sandwich. The fries were good. My sister got fried pickles, there wasn't enough crunch / batter on the pickle and they were very salty. She also got lemon pepper mushrooms which were delish. I will comeback and try a different item next time. I loved the old school music but they have to do something about the smell in the restaurant, I wanted to eat in there but there was a smell that we couldn't take, also more comfortable seating would be nice. All in all it's a good vegan soul food restaurant. read more

I've supported this business quite a bit and I really think they have great food (Sometimes) but awful customer service to the point that its not worth it to spend your money there. Its extremely expensive for vegan food to begin with. Look at what you get for 35$ (See my pictures). Both containers were barely filled and everything was ice cold. I gave them several opportunities to make it right and they choose to offer very little for my troubles (in my opinion). They offered to replace my food after ignoring everything I explained over and over. Given the situation I've had to deal with I should have been refunded and my food replaced at this point. They made several mistakes and refused to take any responsibility for anything. Which in my opinion makes everything so much worse. So many better vegan places to eat in Phoenix that actually have customer service. I was excited for them to have a place in Phoenix (Food truck). What a disappointment. read more

I like the concept as I'm a huge mushroom and jackfruit connoisseur, but the amount of sugar and seed oil in their dishes is quite astonishing. Sure this place is vegan and most noticeably they seem to avoid soy which I commend them for, but you could easily obtain diabetes if you eat here often. This place would be a top-notch establishment if they fine-tuned the sugar levels and switched out the fryer oil more often. Be careful! read more

I tried this place as a non-vegan with a vegan friend and it was great! We had a nanas soul plate, the meesy fries, and wangz. Everything was really delicious. My plate was fried chik'n which was mushrooms. The batter was amazing but they were a bit greasy since the mushrooms absorbed a lot of the oil. My friend got the ribs and they were some of the best ribs I've ever had, even including meat ribs. It was a bit small for how busy it was and their menu isn't up to date. Some stuff is apparently seasonal but not removed from the menu when it's not in season and the season it's available isn't specified so that was a bummer. There was barely any salt, but aside that, this is a dish we'd eat anytime! - baked beans were the best we've ever had. - corn bread was tasty, but too dry and there were hair strands in 2 out of 5 corn breads we got. - greens were good. - ribs were made of jackfruit and the best vegan ribs we've ever had! - wouldn't recommend the Mac n cheese. It looked good but tasted and smelled stale. We just tossed it as we didn't want to fall sick eating stale ones. Would love to support this place, but expect better hygiene and fresher food. I stopped in here for lunch because I had some time to burn between my two jobs. I've seen Nana's featured a bunch on instagram, and I was happy to see it was in the East valley. The interior is clean and cute, much nicer than the strip center exterior where it's located. A lovely gentleman walked me through the ordering process at the counter and brought water to my table. I got the Nana's Soul with ribs instead of the cauliflower wings because I wanted a hearty lunch to power me through a double shift. I loved them! Now, they're not going to fool a meat eater (duh, no bones!) but I found them so satisfying. The barbecue sauce was rich and delicious. The mac and cheese was seasoned so well; I didn't feel the need to add hot sauce. The greens are awesome, and it's nice to know someone didn't try to sneak in some meat for "flavor". We ordered hood rolls, the chimichanga, and meezy fries to share. The guy working there said the hood rolls were super popular so we went for those! It was a fantastic suggestion because that was our favorite thing. It was a little pricey but worth it. The fries were amazing, perfectly seasoned. I had a wonderful experience at Nana's Kitchen. It is owned by such a sweet and friendly family. Nana herself came out to check on me and she was very kind. I had Nana's Soul entree- fried cauliflower, Mac n' cheese, collard greens and cornbread. Everything was incredibly tasty! The cauliflower was to die for! I don't know how they do it. The restaurant easy to miss but really quaint when you walk in. The fried cauliflower was so good! I ordered the Nana's Soul XL; it was so flavorful and crispy! There was no cashew used for the cheese which is common in vegan cooking or soybean. I was so pleased because I'm allergic to soy and nuts. My husband who is a carnivore ordered the Katfish Sammich and loved the sauce on it. Great place to get a bite for lunch or carry out! We are definitely returning. read more
