Missed out on the soup tonight but I'm holding out for the chilled cucumber avocado to come back. (They cook seasonally so I'm not actually disappointed...) Delicious dinner for the six of us. Started with sweet pea soup with lobster ravioli which was lovely and with the crab in citrus gelee (?) which was amazing. Quark schnitzel was a huge hit with kids and adults alike. Halibut and salmon were great. Tagliatelle dish yummy. Have been waiting to try Naschmarkt, made reservations and finally took the plunge last weekend. Now my only question is why I waited so long, this place is amazing not only the food but the service and attention to detail. I would suggest making reservations as the place is kind of small and they only have roughly 8-10 bar seats (for walk-ups) but those were full the entire time we were dinning. OK so walk in the door, get greeted by the hostess and not only do I get confirmation of our arrival, but she welcomes me and states that she read my comments on Opentable and is excited that this is my first time dinning here. Yes, I'm one of those guys that puts in comments during my reservation (first time here, b-day dinner, etc..) So right out of the gate I'm already impressed with the attention to detail that they are providing to their customers and I haven't even sat down. Get seated and our server (Tina) is ready and greeting us with a smile. We go over some specials, wine list, beer, and get recommendations on what are the meals to not miss while dinning. I wasn't feeling like a beer night and opted for wine, of which both have extensive choices to pick from. This is where Tina steered us in the direction of an amazing Austrian white wine, "I mean if you're at an Austrian restaurant why drink wine from Napa," she was spot on. Food: We started off with the Cold Cuts which were a very simple but nice dish. Chicken liver mouse, pretzel and mustard, every aspect of it was really good. Next up was the Spatzel, which was split in half (two dishes) as our server asked if we were going to share the appetizers, nice touch and no complaints for requesting a dish to be split. For main entrees we went with the Double Cooked Pork Belly and Classic Wiener Schnitzel. It was hard to pick a winner as both dishes were amazing, but I think the Pork Belly one of the best I've had. The Schnitzel was a very close second and was very tasty with the berry sauce. After all of this we were pretty stuff but went all in and ordered a desert. I asked the busser as he was cleaning our dishes for his recommendation and he smiled and stated "Schoko Kuchen", our server came back and we placed the order. This was a great ending to the meal, chocolate cake, salted caramel ice cream, caramelized bosc pear slices. Price $160 (w/out tip). I felt no issues on spending this amount of money as I felt I was fine dining in Campbell, yes Campbell. The food was amazing, the service was stellar and everyone there seems to enjoy working at this restaurant and it shows. Best birthday dinner ever! We will be back. We both had the swordfish, cooked perfectly. My husband had the garlic soup and I had the butter lettuce salad both dishes equally enjoyable. I'm a regular here and it is simply the best restaurant in the South Bay. It cannot be beat with its excellent drinks, appetizers, entrees, and, of course, desserts. I took my more-than-deserving husband to a belated Father's Day gastronomic treat at Naschmarkt in Campbell in June. If you haven't yet tasted this restaurant's fabulous food you must go! Naschmarkt's Humberto greeted us in his very friendly way and graciously accommodated us with two seats overlooking the kitchen -- where we could watch the magic happen! Michael was our stellar server who perfectly anticipated our dining cadence and kept our wine glasses filled -- thank you, Michael! We started with the Austrian Cold Cuts for our appetizer. All of the meats were delectable, especially the speck, salami and chicken liver mousse, and then there was the simply delicious fresh horseradish, pickles and mustard! If you haven't tasted fresh horseradish, pickles and mustard you must taste them here. Next we enjoyed the velvety, delicious corn soup which was both sweet and savory. It was the perfect summer soup! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Kraut Rouladen of beef, pork and smoked bacon wrapped in tender cabbage. For my entrée I ordered the Hungarian Beef Goulash. I loved the paprika sauce and herbed spätzle! Honestly if I were at home I would have served myself another bowl of spätzle with some of the paprika braising sauce for dessert! Speaking of dessert, he had The Best Apple strudel with ice cream we've ever tasted and I ordered the gooey chocolate cake with Bosc pear and salted caramel ice cream. Our meals, the wine and beer selection, and the atmosphere were all fabulous, but I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and praise the care, attention to detail, and discretion of our server, John and the host, during our dinner for six yesterday evening. While the circumstance was unique, I believe it is demonstrative of the meticulous attention to the guest experience others will find at Naschmarkt. I am blind, which can make dining out at a table full of tasty dishes, glassware, and bustling servers sliding in and out on your left and right a bit of an adventure. Whether John noticed my white cane on his own as we approached the table or was discretely informed by the host, he took careful care to quietly let me know when he was reaching past me on my left or right, when he had refilled my wine glass, and where my various dishes were oriented in front of me on the table. This was all done so smoothly that even those in our party seated next to me on either side weren't aware it was happening. In all of our fine dining experiences in the 20 years since my sight has been compromised, which include some of Napa's and the Bay Area's best, I can count on one hand the number of times such care has been taken as was shown by the team at Naschmarkt last night. Dining here was fantastic. Must get: Scallops, Smoked Chicken Spaetzle, Bratwurst for starters. Must say, the Austrian/Germans sure don't mess around when it comes to preparing their meats! Tried the Kraut Rouladen, Pork Belly, Wiener Schnitzel, Braised Short Rib and my fave out of all of these were the Kraut Rouladen and Short Rib. If you are like deep fried pork chops, you'll likely love the Wiener Schnitzel. Had the Apple Strudel and Gries Flammerie (Semolina flour based pudding w/ blood orange citrus flavors) and the Apple Strudel was by far the best out of the two. Cocktails you should try: Nash & Rye (smokey bourbon) and Whiskey Sour (perfect combo of alcohol, sweetness, and citrus).Our server (Gustavo) was very friendly and attentive which made our dining experience just perfect. read more

This place is great! Only open 2 weeks and the food and friendly service made me feel like they have been in the neighborhood for ages. We started with the scallops which were perfectly prepared and for entre I ordered the halibut (my husband ordered the schnitzel); not only did we clean our plates but we actually moved on to desert (I'm rarely tempted by sweets). I had the vanilla souffle with blueberries (my husband had the brie cheese plate) and cleaned those plates too! From start to finish this place was delicious, charming, welcoming and memorable. Came here with my significant other and a friend on a weekday night and I highly recommend a reservation because it's not a big place and they were busy! We started with some drinks and the Austrian Cold Cuts appetizer. The appetizer was delicious, we loved the pate, meats, cheese, and pretzel with mustard. The pretzel was a little overcooked, however. For dinner, I ordered the Hungarian Beef Goulash which comes with spatzle and I highly recommend it. The flavors were delicious and when I mixed the spatzle into the beef dish, it almost came out like a savory beef pasta. For dessert we finished with the bread pudding -- amazing! Apparently we got the last batch of it so if you have room for dessert, the pudding is the one you want to try. read more

It was my father in law's birthday and my wife actually wanted to try this place since it had very good reviews so we reserved for a party of 4 on a Saturday night. My biggest fundamental problem was that maybe I ordered the wrong item. But then again, if you're a restaurant trying to come off as a bit more fancy, then what you put on the menu should be worth my hard earned money. I was 50/50 between ordering the halibut, which my wife ordered, and the chicken. My wife chose the right dish and I had the chicken. My biggest complaint for one is the measly small piece of chicken. It's a fancier restaurant, I get it. I've been to many more fancier places than this (I consider this semi fancy I suppose) and I've never left a meal more hungry leaving. It's not just about portions though. Even with the small piece of chicken, the ratios were off once again. It came with a pesto sauce which was pretty good. However, there wasn't enough sauce. I can't fathom how you can give me a small piece of chicken, then on top of it, give me even less sauce for my chicken. In addition, it came with 2 miniature jalapenos. There was a potato option which came with the meal but I specifically told them I wanted seasoned vegetables instead. Well, they messed that up too. I didn't even get my vegetables. All that for 25 bucks? What a rip off. Based on what others ordered, I'm sure the food in general is fine. So in that regards as a whole, I will not discredit the food b/c I did try some of my wife's halibut and it was pretty delicious. My in-laws also enjoyed their dishes (salmon etc). I have to keep my review on 2 stars also b/c the service was very slow. Now I know it was busy but 45 minutes is pretty long for chicken. Most places would give you something complimentary; nothing here. The staff was scrambling. The place is extremely small and tight and on top of it, I had to keep trying to flag someone down for my check and had to ask on two separate occasions for plain old water. Amazing beef stroganoff that should be a regular item on the menu. Instead, call first on Saturdays or Sundays to see if they have it. Double cooked pork belly is also melt in your mouth good and the sweet corn soup is both pretty and a delicious starter. Definitely a great, pricier place if you're celebrating an occasion. Dessert selection is diverse. We had the apple strudel, which was not as sweet as anticipated, but overall good if you don't like sugary-sugary sweets. My fiance and I ate a great dinner Friday night Naschmarkt. It was a lovely evening and the restaurant and bar were completely packed, both inside and outside. The space is relatively small but didn't feel crowded--the large windows and open-kitchen made the space feel larger. We sat inside, but they had some nice-looking outdoor tables, too. The restaurant has only been open for a week, so not surprisingly, it seemed they were still working out a few minor service kinks (for example, two entree plates do not fit on the two-tops). Our server was friendly, nice and accommodating, but he lacked knowledge about the wine list, which was a little disappointing because their wine list is interesting and their mark-ups not bad. (They also have an interesting list of imported beers). The food, however, was excellent. Even the bread was really a cut above--crunchy crust and very sour. My fiance and I shared the smoked bratwurst appetizer, which was perfectly cooked and served with delicious mustard (though there could have been more mustard and sauerkraut because they were so good!). For entrees, he had the Wiener schnitzel and I had the goulash. Both were excellent. the schnitzel was light, crunchy, and just slightly browned. The goulash was meltingly tender and the gravy was thick and aromatic. The potato salad that came with the schnitzel was also a real winner--some of the best German-style potato salad I've ever had. The cucumbers added a great crunch and extra sourness. The knockerl we had for dessert was light and airy with just enough sponginess. We didn't have it, but someone at the table next to us had the pork belly, and it looked absolutely amazing. The prices struck me as just a little high--not for the quality of the good--but the prices seemed a little out-of-sync with the casual atmosphere and the level of service. Opentable listed their prices as being "$30 and under," which may be literally true before tax and tip, but most of entrees are in the $27-30 range. The menu on their website didn't have prices, and when I sat down in the restaurant I was a little surprised at how high they were--everything seemed maybe $5 higher than I would have guessed. In the end, the food was worth the price, and I would highly recommend going, but don't be surprised if you pay a little more than you might anticipate on first glance. read more

This is not really a bistro, but it should be. It's trying to be fancy and high-end, but ultimately it's just pomp and circumstance. No value in terms of portion size, and food not good enough to overcome lack of portion size and value. A family of four ordering three courses and a bottle of wine will take you to $300, so it should be memorable if not life changing, and I know I won't remember what we all had a month from now. Parking is also a problem, but not SF bad. The restaurant has some good points though. Beautiful and clean restaurant, open kitchen and nice bar seating area, fresh ingredients, and good wine, beer and cocktail list. They have many affordable bottles of wine. For appetizers, I liked the bratwurst and ahi tuna the best, but again the portions are not big enough to share, so you must order your own appetizer (or two). I would skip the salads. The entrees are not spectacular, and you should order a side dish if your entree does not come with one, else you will leave hungry. The schnitzels are basic fare that will disappoint if you are looking for something more interesting. The rouladen was a complete miss, and the pork belly was tasty but not filling. The coffee and desserts are above average, so try them. Strangely, the portion sizes of the desserts, because of their richness, seem bigger and heavier than the savory dishes, comparatively speaking. I doubt I will ever go back. Nothing was memorable, and I'd rather spend my food dollars elsewhere. read more

The venue is compact and has a nice feel to it .... good location and has that "evening out" feel. The food was good and I have no complaints about the quality ... but there was little of it ... I eat for nourishment as well as pleasure and to be honest my $100 for 2 (we bought our own wine as well) didn't seem to equal what we received ... which to be blunt was 2 small pieces of meat which would grace any starter menu ... I was cooking as soon as I got home an hour after to fill the gaps ... if the portions had been a little more ample then I'd have no problem with a higher grading .... but a few days after I had thought about it that was the one thing that stuck in my mind ... Named after Vienna's marketplace, this restaurant is a wow and a half. Fantastic food and the service was great! (Thank you Gustavo, for making our Mother's Day so enjoyable with your helpful explanations and professionalism. Yelpers order what he tells you because he is right). Every single thing that was recommended and that came to our table that was a party of 8, was excellent. A very well thought out and executed menu featuring the finest in Austrian cuisine. We started with the Bratwurst which was fabulously smoky and flavorful, not too salty which a lot of Brats hide behind. (mouth watering at the memory, so good) We also had a charcuterie selection with some really creamy umami pate. The bread on the table was inhaled with our apps, so fresh and warm. Great beer and wine selection complimented the rest of our meal. Jager Schnitzel, Kraut Rouladen, Classic Wiener Schnitzel, Linguini Pasta and Double Cooked Pork Belly (so rich! house prepared to perfection) were all great. I tasted them all and couldn't find fault with any. THEN, you know how after a great meal, you sort of expect there to be a fall off on dessert. Well NOT here! OMG The Salzburger Nockerl.. a vanilla soufflé with blueberry compote and greek yohgurt ice cream was a home run. I had no room, and I found room. I had my wife's birthday dinner here. Long story short -- I loved this place, and I will go back. Seating 4/5: we arrived here just on time for our reservation at the evening opening time (5pm) on Sunday. The seating wasn't a bit smooth as they were discussing where to seat us (4 of us, including a 5 years old) right in front of us despite the reservation. But we got a good indoor table in a few minutes. Food 5/5: We shared a place of Austrian Cold Cuts. The chicken liver mousse was amazing. I had the game hen dish, and it was good. The dish had succulent meat with a bunch of greens, fava beans, and strawberries. Very filling. Service 6/5: our server was Matt. He was excellent. He kept his eyes on our wine glasses so well that they never got empty, and his knowledge about the dishes were professional and helpful. The wine he recommended was right on the spot (we asked for sharp, dry-side white Austrian wine) and we really enjoyed it. He even somehow detected that our meal was my wife's birthday dinner, and brought a plate of gelatos for her (and us) after the meal as if it was part of the course meal without us asking (or singing some goofy birthday song). We also had good experiences from other people who never left our water glasses empty, brought our dishes, and gave us some information about starter dishes. Atmosphere 5/5: cozy, clean, and delightful. There are about dozen or so outdoor tables in front of the restaurant, and another dozen or so inside. The right back-side of the restaurant is the open kitchen, which is really nice because you can see all of their food-preparing operations. Other notables for the foods 5/5: all the foods were on "sweeter" side. The corn soup was very sweet, albeit naturally, and the vegetable on my game hen dish was also sweet. We decided that it's part of the Austrian food culture so we were fine with it. Other notables for the service 5/5: very considerate staff. As we (me and my 5yo daughter) walked to the bathroom, all the staff was very respectful and showed us the directions, held the drapes, etc. You'd feel you're treated well. There are two bathrooms -- one for unisex and the other for female. The doors look ordinary but inside very clean. So important to have clean bathrooms, and they got them. How did I not know about this place? This restaurant is definitely one of the better places in the South Bay. Not so pricy where it becomes one of those "once a year" type places. We started with the quark spaetzle. This was awesome. 5 stars. It was so good that we decided to order this as a side as well. We then decided to share the halibut with tomatoes and the pork belly. Based on all the reviews, I thought the pork belly was going to be super awesome but it was just ok to me. Still good but not crispy as I would have liked. And I think if I had the full portion, probably would have been too much fat. The halibut on the other was really good. Perfectly cooked in a tasty mint tomato broth. Good balance to the pork belly. For dessert my husband ordered the bread pudding which was really moist and not too heavy. while I ordered the apple strudel. That was eh. Too much apple, not enough ice cream. Overall I really enjoyed it and definitely going to keep this as one of my go to places when I want something good close to home. read more

Came here with my boyfriend for my birthday and it was absolutely delicious. We ate up at the bar which I enjoyed because you could see into the kitchen but it wasn't too noisy. We started with the spatzle appetizer which was a fancy take on a delicious classic I love from Germany. They added corn for sweetness as well as chicken and mushrooms to make it hearty, all cooked in a delicious sauce. For our main meal we shared the Jagerschnitszel which was a large portion and everything was cooked to perfection. For dessert they gave us a crepe for my birthday, and we also ordered the souffle which was airy and delicious. I looked for a new place to take my wife out and I came across this place with it's high reviews and I thought let's give it a try. I hope we hit it on a bad night, but I don't plan to go back to find out. First of all the place is SMALL, crowded and loud. If you are looking for a romantic or nicer place to dine, then this isn't it. The tables are so close to each other I knew every conversation that was happening at the tables around ours. We were seated and my wife immediately moved the knife to the side to make room on the VERY small table. Her hand was immediately covered in butter. The knife was used and left there. Pretty gross way to start the meal out, but these things happen so we move along. Our server approaches us to tell us that "there are no items to tell you about that are not on the menu, it's pretty boring" which seemed to be his standard line because I heard him say the same thing to the table next to us. WAY to sell your menu! I was disappointed because the menu online did not match the menu we were given, and I had my heart set on ordering something they didn't have. We did split the scallop app. and that was AMAZING! The scallop was cooked perfectly and the purple cauliflower puree was the best thing we ate that night. IF they made that an entree I think they could sell out every night. I ordered chicken since and my plate was just beige. The chicken was beige, the hash-brown circle (given some fancy potato name, but don't be fooled, it was a hash-brown like you get at McDonalds) was beige and the stewed leak was stringy and beige. Oh and the sauce......... yep you guessed it, beige! My wife ordered pasta with clams and octopus. The octopus was so tough she couldn't even cut through it, and they weren't so much clams as they were clamettes, they were super small! She sent the dish back and the server said they were removing it from the menu. Clearly she wasn't the first to complain. She then ordered the swordfish which was a bit overdone but we weren't sending a second meal back. I will say this for them, when they asked her what she wanted as a replacement they did get it out really fast, like less that 5 minutes. Oh and there was a big kerfuffle with the Fire Dept. and ambulance showing up for a patron that had a medical emergency. Clearly nothing the restaurant should be rated on. Our server asked if we wanted dessert and we said we would share the strudel. Now this is where I don't want to sound like an ungrateful patron, but I always get irked when management brings you something you didn't order as a way of apologizing for what went wrong. So along with the one dessert that we wanted to share they brought this giant apple raisin bread pudding and said this is on the house. Well, we just ordered one apple dessert, so why would you bring a second apple dessert and say this is one the house, how about just comping the one we ordered and said we wanted to share. I wish I would have declined it, but once he set it down I didn't feel like it was worth trying to send it back. What irritated me beyond belief was that they listed that unasked for comped dessert on the bill and then showed the credit. We all know we are supposed to tip on the bill before comps and I just didn't feel like we needed to include the dessert we didn't ask for. We only wanted to share one, but being the food whores that we are, of course we ate it! It was ok food, not worth the prices they are charging. The atmosphere was loud and too close for my comfort. I wanted to like it, but I just didn't. BUT, the hostess and the manager were really nice and super apologetic for our misfortunes. Came here a while back so forgive me for my late review. The experience was great. My first time having Austrian food. The staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining everything to me and my friend. We picked this place at random for my birthday dinner. We've tried them for lunch and dinner and were seriously impressed with both. Their schnitzel is to die for, and the super tangy, dill potato salad that comes with it is so delicious. My husband ordered the kraut rouladen and loved it. And the bratwurst and sauerkraut appetizer was another hit. Their sauerkraut is really subtle, not as sharp as I'm used to, which was nice. For dessert, we've tried the apfel strudel and the schoko kuchen, both of which were great (but the strudel was best). I was too full for dessert the first time we ate there, so I passed on the sachertorte, which I now regret because it wasn't on the menu the second time. The only thing we didn't like was a lobster tomato bisque soup special, but they noticed that I only ate a couple of bites and took it off the bill without us even asking. Great service! read more

We were greeted and seated at the bar where you can see the chefs in action. It was great, everyone was so skilled and I love the cleanliness and high-quality ingredients that they use. Its like tasting perfection.we were served the jager schintzel and the Hungarian beef dish and Alan who was our waiter was attentive and extremely courteous.
