How is this place 5 stars!? With all the great reviews I was really excited to come here for a pedi and full set gels. The gel set was only ok. She did them thin somewhat like I asked but the overall look and paint job was horrific! The pedicure took forever not necessarily because they took their time but because they were just slow. I have never come into a nail salon wanting to leave mid way through! I've been on the hunt for the best nail salon in sf but this isn't it. Prices are dirt cheap but I don't think I'll be coming back here. Miracle spa on Geary does a fabulous job but they're so expensive I can't afford to go every 2-3 weeks. This place does quality work. I get my acrylics done here, and the older woman who works there is very good at what she does. She takes the time to file each nail down, mend seams, and apply the acrylic so that there are no fill lines. She doesn't rush. I haven't found another place for their price that can do that. I just went today after going to another place down the street a few weeks ago. Boy did I regret straying from Jolie! The other lady did a terrible job, and I was convinced that the only way to fix them was to soak them off and start all over. But nope! She fixed them, and they look perfect. I'm amazed. And it's so cheap: $20 for a set and $15 for a fill. This is technically a 4.5 star rating. I'm taking off half a star because the other lady that works there once made my cuticles bleed. But the other older lady's work deserves 5 stars, so I rounded up :) read more

I've lived off Ocean Ave for a little over a year now, and although there is a plethora of nail salons here, I never dared to step foot in any one of them... That is until Jolie's opened. Jolie's is probably the nicest and cleanest nail salon on Ocean. The first time I came here, Jolie herself did my mani-pedi and did a fabulous job. She is very meticulous and takes her time with you, which I really appreciate. They do get pretty busy so I recommend going in the morning or make an appointment. They are very accommodating. I came in yesterday as a walk-in mani, and Jolie was with someone. She told me to come back in 10 minutes, which I appreciate. I really can't stand when you go get your nails done and ask how long the wait is, all they tell you is to "pick out a color", and you end up waiting 20 plus minutes. With that said, the manicure was great! My nails are filed perfectly, Jolie is very meticulous, and her massage was great. All this at a very reasonable price! She performs a variety of services. Besides the standard mani/pedi, she offers spa mani/pedis, gel manis, acrylics, waxing, and from the salon chairs with sinks I saw, maybe hair cuts and color. I have lived in Westwood Park for 10 years and have had to "endure" a few of the simply passable salons here for mani/pedis. Because I couldn't tolerate what I found on Ocean, I started going to Zen Beauty on West Portal, which was nice but always busy and a little chaotic, so it wasn't a relaxing experience. I want to RELAX when I shell out money to be taken care of, rather than hoisting my gam up on my own bathroom sink to touch up my own pathetic toenail painting! i want the full foot/leg massage and a massage chair (I even fantasize about walking down to Jolie just to sit in their awesome chair and take a snooze!!). Jolie opened a year or so ago, and I was SO happy to have discovered them. It is very clean, much quieter than West Portal, bright and airy and their customer service rocks. (But...hey! Someone yelped that they got Ghirardelli chocolate. Those gals are holding out on me!!) Not only do Jolie and gang do a great job, they make me feel welcome EVERY TIME I COME. I have even made rush-rush appointments and had to cancel 10 minutes AFTER I was supposed to be there, and they are STILL nice to me! I'd kick my butt into next Tuesday, if I were them. But apparently they are more patient with the likes of me than I am with myself. But the real reason I wanted to jump in here is to debunk a couple of reviews, or at least dilute their impact a little. First, I am pretty much always in a hurry and I tell them "I only have about 30 [or 45] minutes." And they have ALWAYS gotten me out the door in the time I requested. If you don't tell them your timeline, then you can't be annoyed if they don't meet it....right? Second, my nails have NEVER chipped and my cuticles have NEVER been painted. I always get a really nice job done - and I have the lamest toenails on the planet - not much there. If anyone can do an nice job on my feet, they're geniuses. Genii? Hm. Not sure. I'm going there today and will be asking for several chocolates to catch me up on all of the missed offerings! Jolie, you rock. read more

Jolie is awesome! Friendly down to earth and thorough. The décor is so inviting and the cleanliness just attracted me like a bug to bright lights. It's an upscale spa nails salon that's very affordable. I stumbled across this place on my way to lunch, and so glad I gave this place a try! I had the pedi-mani package, which includes: soaking in lemon infused warm water, shaping, thorough cleaning, washing, massaging, paraffin waxing, and color of ur choice for only $30!!! The package took 1.5 hrs to do but what do u expect when jolie is detailed and takes pride in her work. screw the other nail salons on ocean ave, this place is the best. I will definitely be back here, and bringing ppl along with me!!! I love how it doesn't smell like chemicals and aceton, and I liked how the paraffin wax smelled like subtle lavendar. Man my hands and feet feel spoiled now and baby butt soft! Did I mention she offers u bottled water, tea, or coffee for free? I came a little late to my appointment due to the lack of available parking but the lady that was waiting on me was so kind and patient. I got my fill done in record time and they look incredible!! Wouldn't recommend. I came in for a gel full set last week. She gave me the wrong shape and the color I had picked out was different from how the bottle looked. I happened upon Jolie Spa while walking around the neighborhood where I went to high school millions of years ago. It's a brand-new, little gem of a place in the middle of the Ocean Ave shopping district, which, let me go on record saying this now, I think may be the next Park Slope of San Francisco. I can imagine Hayes-St style boutiques popping up any minute. But back to this darling nail place. It's crazy fancy and clean! Brand-new bamboo floors, super-comfy spa chairs, and a great selection of OPI colors. The place seems pretty green, too--there's no smell of acrylics or formaldehyde and it's really bright and airy. I am super-sensitive to the smell of chemicals so I was grateful there were little air purifiers at each seat, even though it didn't seem necessary. The mani pedi from owner Ly was amazing. She took the kind of care you'd expect from a spa-spa, not a local nail shop. I have worked on many a photo shoot and Ly's work could have been photographed, it was so meticulous. She also included a seriously long massage for both hands and feet, without asking me if I wanted to pay for it, and without that ridiculous timer they have at other places which I swear is faster than real-time. Jolie is a bit pricier than most spots in the area--a mani-pedi cost me $35--but the service and style would not be out of place on Fillmore or Union so the price seemed more than fair. I would definitely return on a regular basis if I still lived in SF. And if I were still enrolled in high school down the street, I'd be racking up some serious spa debt on my pre-paid Visa. Upon looking at the outside facade of the nail salon, I thought it was somewhat drab. But when walking inside, the place was a lot bigger than I expected. It was spacious and very well lighted. It was clean and a really relaxing environment. I got a regular manicure. Once the process of prepping my nails started, I realized how good this place is. The tools are taken out of sterilized wrapping in front of you. The women there take their time to clean and perfect your nails before actually starting to paint. There were two women there, Jolie and Mai. Mai spent at least 30 minutes on my nails, just cleaning and removing the cuticle. Every time she continued to the next step in the process of prepping, she would go back and remove excess cuticle. AND she smiled the entire time while being really focused on the task at hand. She seemed to really enjoy her job. Which made me enjoy having her do my manicure. This was the first time I ever remember getting a warm lotion massage during a manicure. It was fantastic. When the Mai actually started to paint my nails, she kept going back to check the area around my nails to see if she got any paint on my skin. If she did, she cleaned it off. By the end of the manicure, my nails were clean and fabulous. I asked how much I owed, she said $8. 8 dollars!!! That's a steal. I was willing to pay more. I yelped this place since it was near my house. Called to come in for a pedicure and she was able to take me right away. When I arrived, there was no one, but it felt nice to just have some quiet time to myself. She greeted me with kindness and when I told her it was my first time, she invited me to come back again. She also gave me a cup of green tea with lemon which was nice. The warm lemon water I soaked my feet in felt soothing and smelled so good. She took her time cleaning my cuticles and scrubbing my calluses which was a plus! People usually just scrub 3 times and it ends within 30seconds, but she really tried to scrub all my dead skin away. I've been shopping around for a new nail place for years now and i am glad that my friend suggested this place. Jolie's is so clean! they sanitize ALL their tools after each customer, and that's definitely a plus for me. their prices are the cheapest i've seen in any nail salon. My 2-tone mani/ spa pedi came out to $36 (regular mani and spa pedi = $30). they use OPI and Essie so it's good stuff. full set acrylics for $20 (fills for $15) you dont see these prices anywhere. the only thing that knocked it down a star was the wait.... they take their time servicing you so you have to wait a looooooonnnggg time before you set serviced. my friend and i got here at 2:45p and didnt leave until 7:30p. i will definitely be back b/c i think i found my new nail place! read more

AMAZING! One of the best pedicures and manicures I have ever received. How this place has anything less than an overall rating of 5 stars is beyond me. The staff is very friendly, thorough and considerate. Not to mention that this is the only place I have ever been to where the parafin wax treatment is included with the spa pedicure/manicure and doesn't cost extra. The massaging chairs...wow...if you have any sort of knot in your back I would recommending setting it on full body, and kneading-II. The water that they use to soak your feet is just the right temperature and they also put lemon slices in the water which I felt was a nice touch. It doesn't get any better than this. An absolute MUST if you live anywhere near the Bay Area (and definitely worth the trip, even if you don't). read more

I'm very surprised at the experience one of the previous customer of Jolies had. I've been here a few times and was very pleased with the outcome. The place is one of the cleanest nail salons I've been to, especially for the area it's in. Now, I would agree that they do take their time when working on you, so I would recommend that you if you do have somewhere to go, you may want to make it your appt another time. The service however was awesome. They really took time to work on me and my mom throughly. It was very santitized, which is rare at a lot of these salons. Wanting a last minute mani-pedi, got the word on Jolie thanks to yelp. Sunny was wonderful - for $30 I got seaweed masque, paraffin wax, hand and foot massage, and a very thorough job of doing the mani/pedi. The only caveat - Sunny was there by herself and it took two hours!! If you have somewhere to go, are in a rush, this is not the place for you. If you want to relax and really enjoy every moment of the experience, I'd highly recommend Jolie. Plus the price can't be beat. read more

I'm jumping on the haywagon: Jolie rocks. 4.5. I came to Jolie having gotten my cuticles pretty towed up just a week before at a much fancier, much more expensive salon called Bellacures in LA. I basically went in and told Jolie that I only wanted my nails painted and to stay the hell away from my cuticles. She listened, but didn't listen, hehe. Instead, she begged permission, did it anyway, and did a fantastic, painless job. She was extremely gentle and attentive. I love that she wasn't shy about taking her time. In the end, my mani lasted 5 days before chipping (usually I chip in 2). My one and only complaint, and it's very nitpicky, is that the paint edge wasn't as clean as elsewhere. All in all, very clean location (though I don't consider it a spa), and inexpensive. I will definitely go back. read more

Ok, so I get if you're in a hurry and something takes way longer than you expect, it's an annoyance.... but the quality here is key and good things come to those who wait. Bottom line: This is the BEST mani/pedi I have gotten in the city and definitely the most bang for your buck. It's not in the most convienent neighborhood (unless you live there or go to City College) but it's totally worth planning for. I almost hate writing this because I don't want to not have the availability I enjoy with Jolie when I call ;) You need to block out 2 hours minimum for a spa mani/pedi. You need to call ahead and book an appointment. And if you are super picky, you should request Jolie. Scratch that, I want her to myself so don't do that :-) She's, er, not the best. Ok I can't lie- she really is. I have never gone to anyone else. It really is a mini-spa experience. She will make you feel like you are her most important client and she will shoo away walk-ins to give her appointments preference. Which I find kind of refreshing because it's not a cattle auction pack 'em in, pack'em out type place. It's relaxing, refreshing and I love every second I get there. And as a mom of two little ones, I don't get there enough... Do yourself a favor, block out time in your schedule in advance (especially for important events) and try Jolie. By far the best place for a manicure and pedicure. I love this place for a multitude of reasons. 1) This place is nice and clean. You will not find a nicer nail salon in this neighborhood. 2) The price is beyond reasonable. $30 gets you a spa manicure and pedicure. That includes massage chair, lemon water soak for your feet, foot and hand scrub/massage, foot mask (I didn't even know they had masks for your feet) and paraffin wax for both your hands and feet. 3) Jolie and all of the other ladies in this salon are so friendly. I've never experienced such great customer service before. The minute you walk in you are offered coffee/tea or water and some Ghirardelli chocolate! I would be impressed with just the chocolate alone, but this place really goes above and beyond. 4) They take their time. Yes, if you're getting a spa manicure/pedicure expect to be there for approx. 2 hours. Some other reviewers have complained about this, but I personally love relaxing there while they pamper me for 2 full hours! If you're in a hurry and need a quick manicure, then this is not the place to go. I LOVE Jolies! I've gotten gel nails twice and on Friday I got the white tips one! (: Jolie honestly takes her time and puts her effort (talent) into the process. I saw my chemistry reacher there from last year haha how embarassing..but it was hilarios cause jolies apprentice/helper kept doing Something wrong for my teacher and she kept pointing out small things and saying yes just stop right there (: I was thinking I was lucky since I had Jolie..boy was I unlucky!! After putting on the gels, Jolie handed me over to the protege And her assignment was to buffer and to apply this. Uv nail polish..I literally would not have minded doing the last steps myself... She started buffeting and buffered onto my cuticles!! It really hurt and I pulled my hand back and just said ow. Jolie comes over and it sounds like she's quite stern with the instructions and this lady is laughing and smjng..I felt like If Jolie had another protege that her spa would have the full 5 stars it honestly deserves.. And then! A woman comes in all in a hurry and asked if someone in the spa was doing acrilic nails..and why YES there were.. So she said that the chemicals were "bad for her" and I couldn't help but question WHAT On EARTH ARE YOU DOING at a nail salon...if those chemicals are so deng ba for you, you might as well do your own nails at home or hire some private manicurist to your house..lol I couldn't help but laugh and she asked how long it would take and Jolie said another 2 hours cause sister had to get them done too.. And she was making such a big fuss and all screaming an everything and the other workers had already set everything up..and she storms out saying "well that's too bad" and Jolie tells us that.it's her business and that she wouldn't stop/sacrifice a customers experience just for some rude ignorant one :D And so while Jolie is doing my sisters nails...apprentice paints the uv polish SO sloppily on... And day 2 I could see dome matted areas when they're all supposed to be shiny like mirrors...sigh... Of course I'll come back!! She went to town on my feet and gave me one of the best pedicures I've ever got. But just a heads up since she's solo. You can't expect her to always be ready to take you right away. Lynn is super nice.. a little older, but she def knows what shes doing.
