We would come in frequently, start with a martini and finish with a nice dinner (the sea bass is perfect). But , they switched from martini glasses to coupe glasses. It totally ruined to vibe for me. It is a nit complaint, but I am not having a martini and my wife if not having an espresso martini in a coupe glass, full stop. Too bad. Need to find a new haunt. Those glasses were cool in the 1920s, may be at speakeasy, but they 100% are repelling us from our favorite place on 2nd street. read more

Made reservations and arrived early. S We had to wait for our reservation time to get seated so we sat at the bar and ordered a drink. Bartenders were very nice and the service was great! Terrible outside patio table dining- Dark Black Heavy Curtain + heavy thick plastic draped in front of table blocking any daylight - any fresh air -when we commented on this they said it was because many of the patrons don't like the cool air or the sunlight in that case why wouldn't they sit on the inside where every single seat has no sunlight no cool air but instead we are told that patrons want the entire outside patio darkened no sunlight no air what's the point of even having an outdoor patio then??-they should at least leave the outdoor patio on 2nd street to have some sunlight and air for those patrons that would like that instead of every single seat on the indoor and outdoor only being for people that want to sit in darker non-sunlight conditions! TERRIBLE ! Definitely not Southern California I guess we have to go to the NICKS in Newport Laguna etc to get any kind of California sunlight ambiance! read more

We planned our wedding dinner here as we had a small group of 12 and wanted someplace intimate and where we weren't in the middle of a large dining room. Nick's was the place! My wife and I have been dinning at Nicks for years and they are always consistent with their meals. The food is excellent and the servers are always attentive with a smile. I honestly don't think there is anything on the menu that I wouldn't recommend. Our favorite place to sit is at the bar but you must get there early because it fills quickly. Parking can be tricky to find and you may have to walk a bit but Belmont Shore is nice and there are people everywhere shopping, dinning, or just walking their dogs. We highly recommend trying Nicks, you won't be disappointed. read more

Nick's has been on my list for awhile... even before I started working in Long Beach, the Nick's in HB has been on the list to try for a very long time. Very glad we made reservation for lunchtime on a Tuesday afternoon because this place gets packed!!! My two colleagues ordered salad: Thai Salad and Steak Wedge. I opted for something meatier and got the Original Ribeye Melt (per recommendation of my foodie friend). Both salads looked delicious but I am so much happier with my choice. Ribeye Melt: sandwich comes with big chunks of ribeye pieces cooked to your liking. I got it medium rare, making it still super tender. The caramelized onions and jam gave it such a nice added sweetness. I am a sucker when it comes to sweet and savory, so this made the sandwich an 11/10 for me. I had horseradish on the side but I didn't even use it-- I didn't need it (and normally, I love horseradish). The dish also comes with your choice of side. I got their warm potato salad, which I highly urge you to get! It came out warm with lots of bacon strips on it. For dessert, the three of us shared the butter cake, which was crispy on the edges; soft, warm, and buttery on the inside. The berry jam and ice cream evened out the butteriness of the cake. Out of all the butter cakes I have had so far in CA (and I have tried them at every restaurant Ive been to that offers it), this one is the best one. Mastro's and Parker's Lighthouse has nothing on the butter cake here. Will definitely come back soon to try the Chilean sea bass and the seafood cioppino. read more

It's at the end of 2nd street so parking is always hit and miss. We got a spot right down the street and we sat at the bar immediately. Bloody mary was sweet but the fried stuffed olive was the best. Nick's on 2nd is our go-to restaurant/bar for food and drinks. For the most part, the bartenders are phenomenal! Kelly is my favorite, followed by Ryan and Jacob. I don't remember the bartender's name, but she's awful and unapologetic for her horribly made drinks (the ponytail and glasses). I would typically give Nick's on 2nd Street 5 stars, but they recently stopped using martini glasses and resorted to the old-school, rounded-rim 1970s-style martini glasses. Simply ludicrous. The type of glass matters, and customers should have a choice! I don't want to drive to Nick's in Manhattan Beach to have a drink served in a lovely contemporary martini glass! Do better, Nick's! Ya'll are phenomenal but this change in glasses was a big mistake! read more

Last night I had one of the best servers I've ever had. Her name is Tiffany. She was so knowledgeable about the food, and the establishment. She made clear and concise recommendations. Every dish we had was so delicious. We split the clam chowder. It's got little pieces of bacon in it. Which was different, but good. I got a hot tea, and went with the pear tea. Really good. I ordered the cioppino. It is so damn good! And course, the main event, the buttercream delicious fucking cake! Had such a great night. The ambiance was so pleasant. 10 stars! read more

This place is a jewel. A bit pricey but I can honestly say it was worth it. While visiting LBC from Texas, my mom wanted to go here for Mother's Day. The food and service was superb. It's a cute and quaint little restaurant. For starter, we had the fried deviled eggs..amazing! For my entree, I had the ribs with loaded mash. The petite salad that comes on the side of the ribs was soooo good and fresh! Our desserts came out with the ice cream already melted so we sent them back. That is my only complaint. I'm writing this review as I sit in the restaurant and I just have to say the food was fantastic. We came with a large party and 6 of us ordered their special - the panko and macadamia nuts crusted Alaskan Halibut. And we all thought it was amazing from the first bite and we all cleared our plates. We ordered all of the desserts as well and their house butter cake with berry compote was one of the best desserts we've tasted. It wasn't too sweet, it was soft and warm, and the compote helped balance things out. They had a key lime pie that was delicious as well, but if you can only pick one dessert - go with the butter cake. read more

Nick's was very busy when we got there , but we were seated immediately. Irene was our delightful server today answering all my questions with a smile. Her associate Hannah poured my wine. My friend ordered the salt encrusted baked potato. They use fluffy russet potatoes and the outer salt crust makes the skin crunchy and flavorful. I ordered the pan seared Scottish Salmon served with a caper mustard beurre blanc accompanied by sautéed spinach and whipped mashed potatoes with lemon & almonds. The salmon was medium rare and cooked to perfection. It literally melted in my mouth. My entire meal was absolutely delicious! This was the best best meal I've had in ages with the most excellent service. After the meal hot cloths were brought to the table so we could clean our hands. I just want to thank Irene & Hannah for making our dining experience so pleasant. Nick's is upscale trendy environment. It is very loud when the restaurant is full. But so are many popular places. MY HEART HURTS. I couldn't bring myself to give 1 star because I love Nick's so much. But I can't just overlook such a grievous offense. You took the Maple Glazed Meatloaf off the menu. I dropped to my knees when I heard the news. The sun doesn't shine the same anymore. They say show appreciation to what you have, so I told it of its great beauty. I told others how wonderful it made me feel and I literally wined and dined it. What we had was so special. I don't understand why it left me. Maybe I was too good of a dude... good guys finish last.
