What a fantastic little Thai food spot! While there may not be a ton of seating options, it makes up in food and portion sizes! The food was absolutely delicious, good flavor and it hit the spot. The service was kind and friendly. So glad we found this little spot and had an amazing dinner!

Lovely little restaurant with fast service! Great location. There's free or metered street parking all around the block. We chose to sit outside, where it's fully shaded and surrounding by plants. The food comes out quickly and tastes pretty good. The egg rolls were so crispy and full. I could probably just eat egg rolls. I also got the grilled pork with sticky rice. There was a generous amount of pork and it was soo juicy. I love that they offer sticky rice with their savory dishes. I'm definitely going to come back again to enjoy their lunch specials.

My fav thai restaurant in Pasadena! I've read some of the reviews saying service feels rushed, but I've been many times & haven't experienced that. If anything, they're efficient & food comes out quickly. Love their pad thai, crab fried rice, & mango sticky rice. Both indoor & outdoor seating available & restroom available for customers. Located right across Target & there's lots of nearby street parking.

Located in downtown Pasadena, this Thai food restaurant is cooking up dishes for dine in and take out. During my most recent visit, there were a lot of people dropping in to pick up orders to-go. There are indoor and outdoor seating options so that's convenient when the weather is really nice outside. Tried the Tom Yum soup, Papaya Salad, and Pad Thai. Food was good, but had the same few ingredients in every dish -- meaning, I would have preferred more distinction on taste. The servers were nice but the experience felt rushed. Wouldn't be my first choice for Thai food when back in town, but I would be open to giving this spot another try.

Very good Thai food, recommended by the staff at our hotel. We had the papaya salad, the green curry lunch special with pork, and the mango sticky rice dessert. All are delicious and very authentic. This place is small, not fancy but the food is definitely worth a visit.

They have such a beautiful storefront with all these plants and greenery. It's a testament to them that they have an even bigger Thai restaurant competing with them 2 doors down and they're still here. I can see why, their food is delicious and they have great customer service. I always enjoy coming here after visiting Vroman's across the street. I've had their green curry, pad kee mao, tried the fried sweet and sour fish, and their fried rice. Everything was amazing. In particular though, the fish and fried rice were standouts. Most flavorful rice I've ever had, and the fish was fantastic! So crispy despite being smothered in a delicious sauce that's different from Chinese sweet and sour. I think theirs has tamarind among other things.

Small, charming restaurant. Wouldn't recommend for parties larger than 6. They have indoor and exterior seating. The service is quick and friendly. The food was good. I would come again and order other things. One unisex restroom. They don't gave toilet seat covers and they only have a hand dryer. Probably wouldn't go #2 there - just hold it.

PARKING: Parked in a lot near the Pasadena Playhouse and walked over. SEATING: There are lots of seats inside and outside but they fill up quick! Came to eat here before a play at 7PM at the Playhouse and got there around 5:10PM. Inside was completely full but outside had seating. It was nice! But there was a 20 minute wait after we sat down. SERVICE: It seemed a bit slow as I was sat outside but I didn't need much. They took the order and the food came out promptly. Just didn't see anyone again until the check and boxes were needed. No complaints really. I'm sure they are attentive when they aren't slammed. FOOD: Wow! Food came out quick and piping hot! The appetizers were amazing! The way they breaded the calamari had such an interesting contrast with the squid that I kept going back to it! So flavorful especially with the sauce. The pad thai was amazing! The right firmness with the noodles and the taste was phenomenal! Wish they added more shrimp as there were only 2 but I get it. There was plenty of chicken though! Chicken in every bite and a healthy amount of beansprouts. Was even better with the pickled chili. OVERALL: Usually I get Blaze before watching a play at the Playhouse but this will be my new spot to go to now. Just a great spot with great vibes!!

Great Food and service! I've been driving by here for years and years and today I thought we'd slide on in. Really good stuff also made sure that they had no MSG. Our waitresses were very nice. Great place will definitely come back. Good food. We were able to grab a quick bite and chill. Food also comes out fast. Thank you

Food is great, space is great, and service is especially lovely. Absolutely adore this place.

Nine & Nine did not disappoint! I stopped by at lunch for the first time and thought that the lunch special was great value, considering it was $12.50. I think it's definitely hard to come by nowadays, especially at dine-in restaurants. The lunch special comes with an entree, salad, and a choice of egg rolls or dumplings. I ordered the lunch yellow curry with two egg rolls (which were sooo delicious). The yellow curry was perfectly creamy and spicy. My only complaint is that the beef was on the dry side. Service was great. Only thing is parking there's limited street parking and it's all metered.

I came here for mango sticky rice and a Singha beer. Before i was even half done eating the rice and mango, they brought the check and stuck it in the middle of the table. Then, they came back every 5 minutes to ask if I wanted to pay the bill although I hadn't finished my food. One lady went through all options, do you want to Apple Pay, do you want visa, do you want to pay cash???? Pressure, pressure, pressure to turn the table and get you out of the place. Did I mention that I still hadn't finished my food? Food was good. Singha beer is always nice, but if they want to turn tables to maximize profits, they need to set a time limit and hold all diners to the limit.

Their chicken fried rice is so amazing I wish I took a picture! The ladies are all very nice and always say hi and thank you. Very cosy and homey.

If you're a fan of bold, authentic flavors and reliable service, this spot is definitely worth visiting. Tip - If you're new to the cuisine, I strongly recommend getting everything MILD spicy. I've been told by some of my colleagues that MILD spicy is still pretty spicy, so be warned. With that said, strongly recommend the dishes below. Lamb with Cumin 11/10 - My favorite dish here by far. He also recommended the Dan Dan noodles with the pork chop which we had not tried before and my family raved about. Unfortunately, our experience with the host was the complete opposite. When we asked if we could be seated in a booth, he responded with a sour expression and unnecessary attitude, as though having the booth cleaned was a personal inconvenience. Even after we thanked him for accommodating our request, his response remained cold and dismissive. That interaction is the reason we're deducting one star, because customer service matters just as much as good food. Our family frequently visits the Sawtelle Japantown location, where we've always been welcomed with outstanding hospitality. You really cannot go wrong with the xiao long bao, steamed buns, or any of their other dumpling offerings. Beyond the dumplings, they have a lot of other dishes I really enjoy. Some of my favorites are the beef rolls, spicy wontons, green onion pancake, chow fun, orange chicken, and chow mein noodles. The noodles are especially good and, importantly, not overly greasy or oily, which can sometimes be an issue at other places. The prices are also competitive, especially considering the portions and quality of the food. It is the kind of place where you can order a good spread, share a bunch of dishes, and feel like you got a solid meal for the money. I also love that they bring out sugared peanuts when you sit down. It is a small touch, but a really nice one. The restaurant has plenty of seating, though service can be a bit slow at times, so good luck flagging down a waiter when it gets busy. You can also tell they are a high-volume dumpling restaurant because there is often steam in the dining room, which can make the restaurant feel a little warm at times. A couple of practical heads-ups: the tables are on the smaller side and can get crowded quickly if you order a lot of dishes, so just be mindful if you are planning to feast. You will also likely need to park in one of the structures around the area, but there is a large parking structure right across the street and plenty of parking options around Old Town. Overall, Mama Lu is a great spot with excellent dumplings, solid noodles, competitive prices, and a menu that keeps me coming back. Definitely one of my go-to places in Pasadena.

As it turned out, our table was too small to hold our 8 entrees. The server wasn't even sure herself on how or where to put our orders on the table due to a lack of space. We had to combine several of our entree dishes onto 1 plate to make room on the table. The service was terrible because no one would check up on how we were doing, & no one would take our mountain of extra dirty serving plates away. Staff were standing around instead of being attentive. We got up & brought the many empty dirty serving dishes to their main counter ourselves. We had to ask for water refills because no one came to see if we needed anything. They then had the audacity to automatically charge us an 18% service fee ($19.83) for their bad service. The bill totaled $139. Tipping is NOT optional, even for bad service! The food tasted OK, not great. The facility & restroom was clean. Available street parking was very hard to find on a Saturday at noon. The Pasadena location was a big disappointment & a bad experience. I will not return, & I do NOT recommend eating there. It was not enjoyable. NOTE: The Chinatown location of Mama Lu's has excellent & very friendly service, larger tables, better tasting food, & an adjacent free parking lot.
