I love beef salad and I usually order that at every Thai restaurant and I know that the dressing usually has fish sauce in it, but this sauce and overall meal at a very fishy taste to it that I couldn't ignore. The salad was very warm and it wasn't my favorite. I also ordered the pad see ew and it was fine, I asked for everything to be Medium spicy and it didn't have a hint of spice at all. What I did like was the panang curry, it had good flavor. I had asked for chopsticks and chili sauce or some kind of Thai chilies on the side that they usually have at the table for you, but they didn't give us any utensils or anything like that. Nine & Nine is by far my favorite Thai restaurant. The pad Thai, the pad see ew, all the curries, the prik king, the pineapple fried rice. They are all on rotation and all excellent every time. I've only ever ordered take out and be prepared. On a busy night this place can get kind of wild with DoorDash and Uber eats drivers all over the place waiting for their orders. On a busy night it can take a good 30 mins for a call in order to be ready. Still it's worth it every time. read more

Well, another 63 mile round trip to the BEST THAI restaurant in Southern California. We were turned onto Sids Thai restaurant several years ago in Long Beach. Parking was a real issue so he moved to Diamond Bar. So we made the trip to Diamond Bar on average 2-3 times a month and were never disappointed. Now at Nine & Nine Thai Kitchen we visit on average 2-3 times a month. Why Pasadena? Well we haven't found the Thai food in Long Beach on par with his. The food is excellent as well as the service. You rarely wait more than 10 minutes for your food. We've not had one dish yet that we didn't like. He's an amazing cook as well as friendly as a new born pup! My friend had the cashew chicken and I chose old faithful, pad see ewe. The temperature, spice level, and flavors were on par with other Thai spots in the area. The prices were reasonable and the portion sizes were larger than average. The lunch specials consisted of several popular dishes, plus salad, rice, and dumplings (or egg rolls). Not bad for $13.95. Now with COVID, a safe takeout can achieve most of everything (except the ambiance): delicious, fresh, appropriate spiciness, and simply a wonderful dinner option. PREVIOUS REVIEW: This has become one of my favorite Thai restaurants for a quick but very cozy and good dinner. The place overall is very small, but the staff tries to accommodate wherever possible. Nine & Nine is a great Thai spot in Pasadena. I ordered a Pad See Ew Pork and Chicken and they both came out delicious! The flavor of the Pad See Ew was great, not too salty and not too sweet. Just perfect. They are located on the corner of Fair Oaks and Colorado. Ordering was a little difficult as the phone number on yelp is not correct. I had to drive over there and place my order in person. Pricing of the Pad See Ew is fair, more expensive than other Thai places but it's worth extra dollar or so. The value is what keeps this place from a 4 star to a 5 star. Other Thai places offer things like soup or salad to entice the customers, here it's just the Pad See Ew itself. The portion sizing is good for lunch and for one person. Do not plan to share as you can finish the order yourself. One thing I would like to point out is that their Lunch Menu doesn't include popular Thai dishes like Pad See Ew or Pad Thai. They do have a selection of curries however. Parking is a pain as most places in Pasadena are. There are a few spots on Colorado that you can park for an hour at No Cost. Other than that, you'll have to find a structure or meter parking. Overall, highly recommend and would definitely suggest the Pad See Ew! The flavor is amazing and I must get another! read more

It made me feel very unwelcome and - as immature as this is to say - very ugly or smelly or something lol. (And I don't smell and I'm not gorgeous but I don't think I'm ugly either). We usually order out because the restaurant itself is a bit small, but that means it's great for a night in. The service is usually pretty quick too. We did a phone order and it was ready when we got there so it was an in n out pickup, and one of the reason for the generous rating, and the other is because my Hubby had no complaints. Now let's talk about the food. Two orders of pad thai with shrimp my Hubby liked his because he's ex military so his tastebuds aren't discriminating his are built Ford tough. However, mine aren't military grade so it's a no for my civilian tastebuds. The noodles were overcooked, and the Shrimp weren't shrimping, pretty bland, I tried to fix them up with the chili paste packets that came with the food, unfortunately didn't help at all, I think it pronounced the blandness. We also ordered the veggie egg rolls and again the military ford built tastebuds was ok with them, however my civilian tastebuds weren't, again another bland item. Let's talk about the calamari. Yes, they were edible the military Ford built and civilian tastebuds agreed, they weren't as great as I would've like them to but I could eat them and were better than the rest of the meal. Lastly, is our Thai ice tea, the best part of the meal once you stirred and let the ice melt. So in light of it all the Thai ice tea isn't enough for a return visit. I didn't think to take a pix of the other items before hubby ate them. I did give him the 4 of the 5 shrimp that came with the pad thai before I threw the noodles away. The staff is sometimes welcoming (when it's not busy) but the food is 1000% I come here for their fried Catfish. Their Catfish pieces are always large and abundant which I enjoy. I also highly recommend trying their Thai toast. I've never had it before but I was mind blownnnnn. It was crispy, savory and sweet all in one bite. This place is always busy & for good reason. Have been going here since undergrad and love this place. They do a lot of takeout but the indoor dining experience is nice as well. They have some foliage making it nice to eat.
