My 2nd time here and it's a shame it took years to return. However, better late than never. Restaurant was clean and the customer service was good from everyone as it was a combination of people assisting my meal, and the Host was very welcoming. They even provide your table with its own pitcher of water. Beef Chow Mein was up first. The noodles were very delicious. Not too greasy and not loaded with cabbage, but rather green onions which is definitely a win. Tha accompanying beef wasn't tender and it was also under-seasoned but it doesn't take away from how good the noodles were. Honey Walnut Shrimp was my favorite main dish. Breading was done exquisitely and the sauce was perfect as well. Not too much, not too little; and not overly sweet. Lots of good sized walnuts as well to have one in each bite of shrimp. The Orange Chicken was very good. Some pieces more tender than the other, some hard bits but overall nothing to complain about. The sauce was well done. It wasn't a sweet sauce but rather a great combination of sweet and spice. The green onions were a nice touch. The veggie spring rolls might be my favorite item of them all. Sure the food is great but every time I go with family I feel uneasy about the interior like over time it's gotten more and more rundown and just looks and seems filthy and unkempt and nowadays whenever someone suggest we go there for halal Chinese I say no and opt out cause it just makes me feel uneasy going inside which is weird because that's the first restaurant I've felt that way towards. read more

I've eaten here twice with my family and it's great. They have a large parking lot that's very easy to pull into. Restaurant has sufficient space to accommodate large parties. Staff is super sweet and very helpful. The food is really good. I love the cumin lamb, orange chicken, eggplant, hot and sour soup, and the fluffy pancake bread things. It's a far drive for us, but I'm looking forward to the next family dinner there. read more

So the last time we were here we encountered a major customer service flaw with one individual However, we came back today spoke with the owner and though I didn't give him too much detail about the last time, he was very apologetic and offered to provide a discount. I told him no thank you on the discount because I will continue to come here and support his establishment because the customer service and most certainly the food is off the chain. LOVE NOMADS!!!! Mary was our waitress last night and she was incredible! Very attentive and we enjoyed chit chatting with her too. Our food: -walnut shrimp -orange chicken (which I don't recommend) -green beans -beef fried rice -vegetable handmade noodles Everything was 10/10 including that homemade chili oil, WOO what a great spicy rush. This was my third time going, but the orange chicken was extremely soggy and tasted completely different from what I had before. I complained, but no one even apologized--they just said the taste might vary depending on the chef. The server was friendly, but if the food is sometimes crispy and delicious and other times soggy and disappointing, I don't plan on returning anymore. read more

We ordered the following: 1. General Tsos chicken 2. Mongolian beef 3. Honey ginger wings 4. Honey walnut shrimp 5. Fresh pressed ginger ale The general tsos chicken was horrible. The chicken pieces were very hard. At times, I couldn't cut the chicken with my utensil due to how tough the meat was. It's sad if a Chinese place can't get the general tsos right. Also some of the fried parts of the dish was obviously not chicken. Seemed to be clumped batter which was fried and served with the chicken. Very disappointed with this dish. The restaurant can definitely do better. Mongolian beef was good Honey ginger wings were tasty but were tiny. Honey walnut shrimp was good. The fresh pressed ginger ale was the best part of the meal. There are two signature dishes to try here - the Szechuan Noodle soup with handmade noodles and the Honey ginger crispy chicken. Both are super authentic and delicious! I just spent the better part of the hour devouring the soup. Add a little vinegar for an added kick! This Vietnamese owned restaurant has a really different type of Chinese food. The chow mein and chow fan is street food style - we really enjoyed it. The noodles are a bit on the dry side (not much sauce). One star off for terrible ambiance. The Pandemic has taken its toll on the food/restaurant industry. Higher prices, availability of food and the lack of customers. When our Chinese restaurant reopened, we could hardly recognize the dishes we used to crave. High price tags, substandard ingredients and additives to replace the more expensive ingredients have made us seek out another Chinese restaurant. Of course turning to Yelp I was on a very important mission. Hi I am grateful for all the elite yelpers out there because I can trust that your reviews are fair and accurate. To make a long story short we tried the restaurant Nomad Asian Bistro. I called to put in an order to pick up and just by chance asked if they had egg foo yong because I did not see it on the menu. I was very happy to hear them say yes we have it what kind of meat would you like in it? When we arrived at the restaurant our order was ready but it was missing an item so as he corrected our order we waited. It's always a good sign to see the traffic that comes in to a restaurant most of the orders we saw were to go, understandably since we are no out of this pandemic. Below is my review of the items we received: Kung Pao shrimp = amazing! Tons of shrimp and peanuts, very well seasoned. Hot and sour soup = ample, hot and well seasoned. Chow Mein (spaghetti noodles) = generous. But lacked a balance of veggies. It says it should have cabbage, carrots, celery but I was pressed to find them. It had beef and that was well seasoned Egg Fu Yung = nice, light but was not served with the brown sauce. We ordered steamed rice however it was in the smallest container and barely served one person. Overall was a great meal with generous portions and I have to say because of the Halal rating, they do not serve pork. So the hot and sour soup was made with chicken instead. We definitely will try them again and try different things. read more

Wow! Incredible Chinese Islamic cuisine! This specific regional Chinese cuisine is not very common in NYC so when a friend of my husband recommended this restaurant to us we decided to take a drive out to Long Beach and check it out. Everything was delicious and so good that we're afraid our cravings for their dishes are going to mean we'd be making this drive every so often. We ordered 3 different dishes not realizing how generous their portions were and ended up with enough leftovers for 2 meals! I was flying back to NY a day after we dined here so I even took my leftovers with me to eat in flight! I'm sure we'll gradually eat our way through the menu but so far I'd say the Nomad short ribs and the beef roll are highly recommended! You can order ahead for take out or if I were you I'd come with a big group so you can order a number of different dishes to try. Come with an appetite and don't be shy to ask for to go boxes! Price point is also super reasonable and fantastic value given their portion sizes. read more

Charging Station Food at Long Beach area just okay.... and we exceed our $50 lunch date budget having lunch at Nomad Asian Bistro while charging our car. We ordered the house fried rice, crispy jalapeño chicken and black bean fish fillet. Good combination if you want to try something different (not the typical orange or kung pao or mushroom chicken from Panda Express). We give it a 3 star... one less star because they are all salty and one less star because an order averages around $17. Love the fish, very soft and tasty. Service was fast, faster than charging your car. Would probably go back to this place just to try their Nomad Spicy Ribs (it was out of stock when we came). read more

The food is so delicious. I have tried different ones and all taste good. The service is good too, especially considering the fact they sometimes they get really busy. The ambiance is causal and laid back. They also have a nice outdoor patio. If open, I highly recommend the patio. The waiters are also quick and polite. read more

Sizzling rice soup was amazing. Cannot say enough good things about it. Scallion pancakes delicious. We came in for a great big dinner and ended up with that. I've been on the hunt for the best Hot & Sour Soup and Nomad takes the cake. It's not the cleanest inside and service isn't great so you may want to stick to takeout but the food is worth it. The menu is huge! We ordered a little something from each category of starter, soup, beef, chicken, shrimp and rice/noodle. As stated, we started with a large bowl of the Hot & Sour Soup. The flavor was on point and I believe it even had some chicken in it which you don't often see. It was perfection and so comforting. Another favorite was the Handmade Chow Mein with Chicken. If you're ordering chow mein, you definitely want to go for the handmade version here. The noodles are wide and flat and have the perfect chew. The dish was filled with plenty of chicken. Cashew Shrimp and Mongolian Beef were solid dishes with the shrimp beating out the beef just slightly. I would pass on the Chili Wontons. The sauce and filling were great but the wontons themselves were hard and undercooked. Portions are huge but these 5 dishes fed 4 of us until we were full without any leftovers. I look forward to ordering some food to go in the near future and I know where to go for my soup craving! read more

You know I've been coming here for years and every couple of times I keep trying to give it a chance because of various family and friends who eat halal, and I swear progressively it gets worse and worse. It's so hit or miss now on which dishes feel fresh versus which feel frozen or expired. My favorite was the beef roti rolls but now it depends if it's good or dry (if anyone knows any other place that has good beef roti rolls pls message me) and today we ordered the chicken chili, the beef short ribs, and the cashew chicken and omg it was disgusting, the sauce tasted sour and expired like funky bad!!!! And we all (6 of us) scooped the cashew chicken to our plates but had a bite to had originally try it (and then finding out it was disgusting) and we immediately stopped eating it (now keep in mind the dish is like 90% full and the waitress was nice enough to apologize and say sorry and we ask to remove it from the bill bc its not cooked properly and feels expired. But the manager came back to us and instead of apologizing blames us saying we already ate half and he says he'll only take half off the bill for the dish!!! What utter bullshit is that! We literally had a bite each! PLENTY OF IT WAS ON THE PLATE! such cheapskate management behavior for people who are doing well! Sadly people like that don't deserve business from us! Absolute disappointment. Also waving down them down for service is very disappointing. I don't recommend, there are other places now that have opened with better quality and service. Sad this is we've been coming here on and off for years as a family or with friends and it's not worth the headache. read more

A large menu and a great place to go with a large group. Here is what we ordered for a group of 8 and could not finish: - Chicken Corn Soup - Chicken Egg Rolls - Sesame Seed Bread - Singapore Noodles with veggies - Chili Chicken - Crispy Jalapeno Chicken - Orange Chicken - Eggplant - 2 sides of rice I would highly recommend the Sesame Seed Bread and the Eggplant. The chickens were also good and crispy, but all of the flavors were overwhelming and nothing stood out. Everything else was pretty average. Food came out fast once we ordered though. It was Eid weekend so super packed, but we made a reservation which they had a no late policy on. read more

I've been here so many times that I feel bad about not leaving a review sooner. I live in Seattle, but my family is still here in the area. Nomad is a must every time I come home. I just gotta have it. Some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. Our faves are the wontons in chili oil, hand pulled chow mein noodles, scallion pancake, cumin short ribs, and the eggplant. We haven't had anything bad yet. The restaurant is also halal so you won't find any pork here. They are usually crowded on the weekends and there are always large crowds eating. The portions are large and served family style. There is no alcohol here btw but that doesn't matter. The food is so good here that you won't care. read more

Everything was going normally until I got to the sauce options at the end. The employee asked if I wanted barbecue sauce or hot sauce. I didn't hear her clearly at first and said "mild," and she responded in an irritated tone that it was either barbecue sauce or hot sauce. I told her I had never seen the barbecue sauce before and asked what it looked like. She repeatedly just said "it looks like barbecue sauce" instead of simply showing it to me or explaining it. I even asked if she could show me the sauce, and she still responded dismissively and seemed annoyed that I was asking basic questions before deciding what I wanted on my food. What made the interaction worse was that there wasn't even a line or rush happening at the time. I wasn't trying to hold anything up -- I just wanted to know what I was ordering. The receipt listed the employee name as "Estuardo," although the employee helping me was a woman, so the register name may not match the actual employee. I'm leaving this review as constructive feedback because a little patience and friendliness goes a long way with customers.

So glad I finally got to stop by many years later for dinner! Parking was easy (on a weeknight). Plenty of street parking and many open meters but I can see it being very difficult on weekends. Bake in some time to find parking! There's both indoor and outdoor seating at this location. This inside is cozy and there's a second room for additional seating. I went on a Thursday night and it was slammed. They do not take reservations but they do have a waitlist via toast that you can join while you walk around and wait for your table. Plenty to do and see on 2nd street. We ordered the party platter for 4 people! It was the perfect amount of food with leftovers to take home. Everything was cooked to PERFECTION. Our beef was a textbook medium rare and was so juicy and tender, as was the rest of the meat. The chicken was so moist and flavorful, as was all the shawarma. All meats were seasoned beautifully. The rice underneath was stunning as well and really caught all the juices from the meat on top. The roasted tomatoes, onions, and pickles were the perfect compliments to help freshen up the palette during the meal. The sauces were amazing and there was a clear favorite (the garlic sauce) which was annihilated by all four of us. Service was friendly! It was very packed so it was slow at times but understandably so. They come by and give you orange blossom water for your hands post meal - what a treat! We smelled amazing! NO NOTES FOR OPEN SESAME! I have to come back with more friends! We did have an issue but it was with another patron who had the audacity to yell at my table (while I was in the restroom) for "having too much fun"?!?! This is a public restaurant and it was loud as hell in there because it's tight and everyone talks over each other, not to mention the open kitchen. I've been to Chiang Rai in Long Beach about four times now, and it's easily my favorite Thai…read morerestaurant in Southern California. I'd give it an 8.5/10. A couple things to know before you go: parking isn't great, and the restaurant gets busy. We showed up around 5:00 p.m. and only waited about 20 minutes, but I could see larger parties having a much longer wait. My go-to dish is the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant with chicken. It's a Thai basil stir-fry with eggplant, onion, and Thai chilis, and I absolutely love it. We also ordered the mussel curry, which my friend picked, and it completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was excellent. The standout, though, was the Khao Soi Noodle Soup with sliced rib-eye beef. Somehow I'd never ordered the dish they're most famous for, and now I understand why. It absolutely lived up to the hype. The broth with the rib-eye was incredible and is something I'd recommend to anyone visiting for the first time. My biggest criticism is that the rice portions feel smaller than they used to. With how much delicious curry and sauce you get, I found myself wishing there was just a little more rice to soak everything up. I also noticed that the green beans in the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant are very al dente. Personally, I'd prefer if they were blanched just a bit so they were slightly more tender. If the goal is to add texture, I'd almost rather see crunch come from something like cashews instead--but that's just my preference. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice and another dessert with sweet milk dumplings and red beans. Both were fantastic and a great way to end the meal. Vibes of the restaurant are great. It's a small venue, but they work quickly, and a staff was very welcoming. Overall, Chiang Rai continues to be my favorite Thai spot in Southern California. If it's your first visit, the Khao Soi with sliced rib-eye is absolutely the dish I'd tell you to order.

We were seated outside, which also looked nice at first glance, but I noticed quite a few spider webs around the windows. My boyfriend even felt webs brushing against his arm while we were sitting there, which wasn't exactly the extra ambiance we were expecting. We ordered quite a bit: spicy Pad Thai, Bang Bang Shrimp, Pad See Ew, mango sticky rice, and of course the Thai tea with the popsicle. I'll give credit where it's due. The Bang Bang Shrimp was easily the best thing we ordered and was absolutely delicious. The Thai tea popsicle also lived up to the TikTok hype, although the actual Thai tea itself was on the sweeter side. If you love sugar, you'll probably enjoy it. My biggest complaint with the food was the spicy Pad Thai. The flavor was great, but it came with what felt like a whole chicken farm and a cameo appearance from the noodles. I ordered Pad Thai, not chicken with noodle garnish. The Pad See Ew was also noticeably salty. Now you're probably wondering why I'm giving this place a low rating if most of the food was decent. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the meal. When it was time to pay, my aunt was figuring out how much everyone needed to Zelle her since the restaurant only allows a maximum of two cards for split payments. While we were trying to do the math, our waiter stood over us watching the payment screen like he was supervising a final exam. He was clearly waiting to make sure a tip was entered. My aunt politely asked him to give us a minute, and thankfully he walked away. Maybe when you see a family actively calculating a bill, that's your cue to...actually give them a minute. Keep in mind we also tipped 20% despite all this. Throughout the meal, he did stop by our table, but it rarely felt like he was checking in to make sure everything was okay. If anything I felt rushed. He also gave off that "customer service smile" that disappears the moment you stop looking. The cherry on top for me happened as we were leaving. We had been sitting on the outdoor patio talking for a bit after paying, which is pretty normal for my family. Before leaving, I went inside to ask where the restroom was. The guy and girl behind the bar looked at each other, laughed, and then asked if I was a paying customer. Keep in mind, I was literally holding a to-go bag with leftovers from the restaurant. I responded, "Yeah, I just finished eating," while holding up the bag that made it painfully obvious. Only then did they tell me where the restroom was. Nothing says "valued customer" quite like being interrogated about whether you actually ate there while carrying your leftovers. It's unfortunate because the food had some highlights, and the restaurant itself has a cute atmosphere. But the service made it feel like customers are viewed more as transactions than guests. Between hovering over us during payment and questioning whether I even belonged there after spending money, I left feeling more unwelcomed than satisfied. I'll happily support a restaurant that appreciates my business instead of making me feel like I have to prove I earned the right to use the restroom after paying for dinner.

Gave this place 2 stars because we came here for lunch on a Saturday and they appeared to be somewhat busy. However, I thought the service was mediocre. We sat outside and waited about 10 minutes before the waiter came to our table to take our drink and food order. I looked around and it appeared everyone else was having to wait the same which made no sense to me. Busy or not, no one should wait that long just to take a drink order then come back and take the food order. When waiter came to our table he wasn't even apologetic for us waiting as long as we did. Then, wasn't even friendly. We ordered our food and drink and during our dining, we weren't even asked if we wanted drink refills. Not once during our eating did the waiter come over and ask us if everything was OK. It wasn't until the end when he came over to ask how we were doing but by then we were ready to leave and used this opportunity to ask for our check. I ordered Kung Pao Beef and paid $2 extra for egg fried rice which I thought tasted delicious! My take on the price for basic Chinese food, I thought was EXPENSIVE. My friend ordered something else which wasn't good here. Alos, there were some flies around the table but we were outside. If this Bistro is more attentive to the customers eating here, I see a lot of potential. read more

Because those red peppers are chopped, if you're not careful, some nibbles may be really fiery. Although there isn't much chicken in the chicken fried rice, the rice component is excellent. could feed four people, or three extremely hungry individuals. I love crispy orange chicken, and while theirs isn't as crispy as I would have liked, the chicken itself seems to be of high quality. I also adore the potstickers. Every order we've placed has had excellent wait times. We'll be returning time and time again for this! I was a little scared to try this place at first. It was completely empty and only had one waiter working! But it was around 4:30 so I'm sure that's why. My boyfriend and I ordered the chow mein and the orange chicken. I'm not a fan of Chinese food. It's usually too many flavors for me, but I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The chow mein was delish and so was the orange chicken! I thought the chow mein was a little too oily and the chicken pieces were pretty small pieces, but it still all tasted great! They have really big portions too. My boyfriend and I never take leftovers home, but we took our leftovers today! We will be coming back the next time we crave Asian food! The staff are attentive and very friendly. The environment is spotless and casual, contemporary with a small outdoor area and large dining rooms. Alcohol-free. The food is great, mostly inspired by Chinese traditions, but bumped in the direction of the American palate and zipped up in flavors, presentation, and surviving size. Absolutely the best Chinese food around. The service is also really fast and pleasant. There are tons of great dishes on the menu, and I am trying to push myself to try new things. Friends and us ate their last week. Best Chinese food we ever had anywhere. We all agreed. Family owned and run...Mom is the chef and she is without a doubt exceptional. We love nomad and most of the time, whenever we have guests visiting from other states, we take our guests there and truly a great chinese food. They are certified halal, so we can eat without reservations. The weekends are pretty busy but service is fantastic.
