Love the food here! Service is very friendly. You order at the counter, and they will bring your food to you and bus the table. It's usually got a good crowd, but people eat fairly quickly and it's usually not too hard to find a seating by the time your food arrives. I particularly enjoy the salads + fresh fish (salmon, rock fish, etc). The shrimp salad scope faced sandwich is also delicious. A gem! read more

I finally got to check out Nopa Fish in the Ferry Building for a late lunch. This newish counter service fish market and restaurant recently opened and I've been meaning to try the food after visiting the original Nopa location. I wasn't feeling super hungry so I ordered the most exciting thing I saw on the menu - the smoked trout latkes. These turned out to be perfect! The crispy potato pancakes with a nice crusty exterior topped with pickled beet hummus and the smoked trout made for the perfect bite. The hummus gives the pancakes a tanginess that is balanced out with the creamy horseradish creme fraiche that's served on the side. I would absolutely come back just for the latkes but now I really want to try the other dishes on the menu as well! There are a couple of long tables but it does get crowded so it might be better to get your food to-go and eat outside at the public tables. read more

Usually they're soggy from the hot fish, but they really made it work. The service was friendly. We order at the front. Wait for a table. They bring out the food. Ambiance is cute. Located inside the ferry building (avoid that cold wind). Limited seating, but we only waited for like 10 minutes for a group to get up. enjoyed the vibes here. loved the fresh fish counter and seeing pick out their dinners for the day. that would be the dream to do grocery shopping at markets like this. their decor was so well done as well. i definitely ordered too much food. i really couldn't decide, but the final decision was the mussels and side of fries. The mussel came with a decent portion size, and the meat was well cleaned and tasty. I wish the broth was a little more garlic, as it was just a tomato base. Still yummy though. Just my own personal preference. The garlic bread they served this with was insanely good. It tasted like it was soaked in butter in the best possible way. Definitely clogged my arteries a little, but was well worth it. I wish that the mussels came with french fries, but I also wouldn't have wanted to miss out on the bread, so I will allow the substitution. The french fries were very good. Perfect crisp and salt amount. The real star was the aïoli. I think it was like a malt vinegar aïoli, and so there was a slight aftertaste that worked so well with the french fry shape. A welcome new addition to the Ferry Building. It's both a fish vendor and a prepared food vendor, though many people seem to buying the food. A really nice menu with a diverse offering. Bay Shrimp and Egg Salad Sandwich: Egg salad on milk bread is always a nice comfort food. Add little shrimp and it's even fancier. This was really just the shrimp and egg salad on to of the bread though, so it's really a sandwich. But fun to cut off a piece and it like a finger food. So creamy and yummy. Rainbow Trout, Corn and Shellfish Chowder: A lot bougier than typical clam chowder. The fresh corn adds a nice texture. The rainbow trout added a nice smoky flavor. So quite a complex chowder. Fish & Chips: The batter felt different than regular fish & chips. Thinner, almost like tempura. It was fine for that pub comfort food view. But the other dishes I tried were so much more complex and sophisticated. Smoked Albacore Melt w/ Gruyere: I'm normally not a canned tuna fish guy, since its usually cheap and reminds me of cat food. But figured I'd give them a try, since everything here seems artisanal. The tuna definitely tasted better than regular canned stuff, maybe because of the smoked aspect. It was super rich given the mayo, cheese and whatever they slathered on the sides before griddling. Perhaps the heaviest thing I had here, even more so than the fish & chips. Seaweed Potato Chips: Pretty big portion. Seemed like in-house made chips. Bigger and thicker than store bought chips, but still very crunchy. Only a little bit of seaweed sprinkled on top, so it wasn't overwhelming. Pristine Fish over Sushi Rice: Felt like their own take on a Chirashi or Poke Bowl. Loved all the delicate raw pieces of fish. Definitely tasted sushi grade. All the different veggies, many pickled, added a nicely diversity of taste between fish bites. Rainbow Trout Latkes: I really like latkes, but I'm just so-so about lox. I think I liked the rainbow trout more than lox since it didn't taste as salted / preserved, yet still have a really good smoky taste. And thicker / meatier. There are quite a few seafood restaurants inside the San Francisco Ferry Building, and I randomly chose this one to try. I picked a seafood and rice combination that was wrapped together and deep-fried, and it tasted pretty good. I also ordered their fish and chips, with fries seasoned with cumin that had a very unique flavor. The fried fish was large and delicious, overall quite satisfying. The prices were reasonable, and the service was good. The tables and chairs were also very clean. Although I did not buy any, this place also sells fresh seafood. Grabbed lunch at the Ferry Building this past Saturday. The line at Nopa Fish moved quickly, and customers ordering hot food were helped at the register, skipping those ordering fresh fish from the display case out front. I got the smoked albacore melt with both gruyere and cheddar (you can select one or both cheeses) and no sauerkraut, and it was made perfectly, the buttery exterior grilled to a nice crunch and the sandwich stuffed with a colorful and tasty tuna mix made up of plenty of onions and spices, a treat for my taste buds. The shrimp & rice arancini dish was delicious as well, three good-sized pieces made fresh and very filling, a savory delight even without the thick pesto sauce that came on the side. It's good, but way too pricey. I got the Fish & Chips for lunch during my work break, and it came in a small basket. Two pieces of rockfish, fries with aioli dipping sauce, and some random pickled veges. There were tables in front of the store, and someone came around to clean up empty plates. The total after tax was almost $29! After tip, I paid more than $30 for a simple weekday lunch. Came for a quick lunch and did not disappoint. Staff is super friendly and helpful, and service is quick. Order at the counter from a short but impactful menu and get bring it out. Not a whole lot of seating but want an issue today. I went for their market fish, salmon, which came with all sorts of sides. Everything paired well and this is some of the best salmon I've ever had. This was a fantastic find within the Ferry building. My friend and I split the fish and chips, homemade strawberry limeade, and the rocky sandwich. The fish and chips were crispy and super tasty. The chips (fries) had a flavorful dusting of what seemed to taste like a light curry powder with aioli that accompanied everything perfectly. We were able to split the rocky sandwich with some jalapeños on the side. Would definitely go again. We've been huge fans of Nopa and were excited to read they would be opening Nopa Fish in the Ferry Building. We stopped in around 5:30pm on Saturday to no line and just 30-45 minutes later, there were at least 7-8 people in line waiting to order. We tried a few things off the menu: - Smoked Fish & Corn Chowder - Smoked Albacore Melt - Fish & Chips The chowder was just okay. The corn was lovely, but we really didn't taste the smoked fish at all. At $12 for what was literally 1 US cup worth of chowder, it just wasn't worth it. The smoked albacore melt was delicious and definitely the best thing we had, although it was a bit messy to eat. The tuna salad was flavorful, the bread was perfectly toasted - if you love tuna melts, you'll absolutely love this sandwich. The fish and chips were pretty good as well. The fish was super fresh - flaky and tender - and the batter was thin so it didn't overpower the fish. It came with a harissa aioli instead of tartar sauce and I personally wasn't a fan. The aioli and the chips were great, but I didn't think it worked as well with the fish. This is essentially a counter service restaurant - they'll bring your food out as it's ready, but I wouldn't call it table service so I'm not sure if it's quite worthy of the standard 20% tip (on top of a 4% service charge). I'd order the food to go next time and eat it outside. Overall, really solid and glad to have Nopa Fish in the Ferry Building! read more

After a trusted farm vendor at the Tuesday Ferry farmer's market raved about his lunch recently, I made a point to bookmark it in my mind. My original review was for a take and go meal shortly after they opened. Being the dish he tried was best eaten fresh and hot, I made a point on a late Tuesday morning to stop here to dine. There were a couple of people ahead of me in line and four or five diners already seated at the communal tables. I placed my order, a meal and a drink, and found a stool a few feet away from the counter at the nearest communal table. I'm a die hard Nopa fan, and when my husband and I found out they were opening a fish restaurant in the Ferry Building, we could not have been happier. The fish dishes at Nopa were always a favorite of mine, and I'm sad they've removed it as a full time item on their menu. Anyway, regardless, I'm happy that they have a fish-centric restaurant in the Ferry Building! We have come here twice now, and the first time we got the fish and chips, I thought it was so amazing. Sounds cliché, but it did change my perspective on how fish and chips could taste. We came back recently and ordered it again, but it was not as good. The batter was thicker this time, and maybe the fish quality this particular time wasn't as good? It was weird. We told the owner about it, and he said he changed nothing about it! That was disappointing, I was hoping it was an off time. I'm still dreaming about the first time I had it. I did like the Pristine Fish over Rice dish, which is a more safe dish to order, but delicious. I also really loved the Summer Salad, which came with little gems and tomatoes, cheese. Really lovely fresh ingredients, that made you keep wanting to finish it. We got the Kids Grilled Cheese sandwich, which was pretty amazing actually. They used this brioche milk bread, which was quite sweet but rich at the same time. It also came with a seasonal fruit cup, with plums and grapes. We have also gotten to share the White Shrimp Arancini, which was a fun and delicious appetizer too that came out piping hot. The service is really, really nice here. The husband and wife that own it, also own Nopa, and have 3 kids that are in high school and college. He told us that one of their kids made the fish ceramic artwork on the wall! Check it out! They're always talking to customers and seeing how they enjoy their experience. The ambiance is nice here too. It's quite casual, with bar seating (but not too high). They have these regular made-to-order items from the menu, but Nopa Fish is also a fish counter, where you can buy various fish and shellfish by the pound. We tried the bay shrimp and egg salad open faced sandwich, arancini, and latkes. I like the open faced sandwich best, it was a good dish for lunch on a hot day. Latke was second, had a nice crunch and liked the trout; this small bite dish was the best bang for buck to me. Fried rockfish sandwich was excellent. Perfect crisp, loved the Vietnamese styler pickled veggies on it. Fries were also excellent. Definitely a little on the greasier side, but when your whole meal is deep fried what do you expect. The fried tofu sandwich is a great vegetarian option, but note that it's definitely not vegan (slaw, sauce). And I think that it probably wouldn't taste so good modified to be vegan.
