I have been to the location in Scottsdale so I was under the impression when I took my dad here that it would be the same quality and service. This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We waited over an hour for our food, only for our food to be cold and taste awful! During this whole night we never got refills on our drinks either or told any reasoning for the long wait! The server brought out the wrong meal for one of my friends. Instead of fixing the mistake, they actually tried to gaslight her, insisting she ordered something she absolutely did not. He turned to the rest of table and expected us to blame our friend for his mistake! The attitude was unbelievable--blaming her for their error instead of just making it right. We made reservations because we were going on a Friday night and this place was packed (I patted myself on the back). I had the fig old fashioned...really good. For food we started with the eggplant appetizer and it was really good! I like a little kick and it delivered. Then the main dishes. I got the Short Rib Entrée and it was amazing. The polenta was creamy, the short ribs fell apart and were seasoned perfectly. My husband got the Bolognese and he loved it. This is a five star for sure. We arrived Friday night trying to beat the dinner rush (4:45) which seemed to be the perfect time as it was really getting busy about an hour later (plan accordingly). The open kitchen is pretty cool aspect of the dining experience. Everything we order tasted amazing. We selected North for a family members birthday and wow, what a mistake. Worst service and food I have had in a long long time. It took 30 minutes to get a coke. And then another 10 minutes to get mixed drinks. So that is 40 minutes to get a drink! It too 90 minutes to get our meals and then they were only warm. It was painfully obvious to everyone at the table that food when it did come had been sitting and congealed. So, so disappointing. There was not even and acknowledgment or apology from the server. How about "Oh, we are so busy tonight, I'm sorry." Or "Oh, I'm sorry we are so short staffed." Nope, nothing. Honestly it was pathetic. People save your money, do not go here. North NEVER disappoints and this North Tucson location is one of their best! A big, bright beautiful interior with a welcoming bar, plus a beautiful patio, perfect for dining all year round. The service is always exceptional... Every staff member makes eye contact and greets you, doors automatically get opened for you, and they are more than happy to meet any special requests. Today we had lunch and shared several favorite appetizers, as well as some of their delightful craft cocktails. We love their beer battered/tempura twist on calamari... It really sets them apart from all the rest, and of course we had to order their delicious meatballs, and the Arancini. They used to serve the calamari on a bed of arugula, which was a welcome foil to the slightly greasy calamari...but apparently not today - kind of a bummer. This is my first visit to North after a few years, but I used to come here quite often. It seems the general quality of the restaurant has somewhat degraded. We went in with a reservation for 9pm which is rather late so there were not many people in the restaurant. However, the service was pretty slow and we had to ask for bread when it didn't come after our appetizers arrived. The butter they gave with the bread was literally a quarter inch thick slice of butter which three of us were to share. Admittedly, the pasta is still delicious although portions are a bit small. We got the short rib lumache, squid ink pasta, and strozzapreti. I don't think I would return in the future as there are better local Italian restaurants (which are not big national chains) in Tucson with better service. read more

Surprised how many misses there were. Should have looked at all the 1 and 2 star reviews they've had recently. Something is wrong at this place. Waited 15 minutes to get a table even though we had a reservation. Ordered 2 appetizers, although they were good, one came out and we waited 15 minutes for the next one to come. Server asked if we wanted bread, we said yes, never got any. Refills very slow and server would bring half then wait 5 minutes to bring the other half. We asked that our food be expedited because we had a program afterward, thought 90 minutes would be enough time, but no, we didn't get our food until one hour after we ordered--one full hour. One entree was very bitter tasting, they offered to make a replacement, took another 30 minutes and they charged us for both. We had to cancel our event, dinner took almost 2.5 hours and $250 for 5 people, no dessert and no alcohol. Crazy prices, poor, poor service and experience, would never return. A manager came by to ask how our dinner was, we told him and he gave us 2 desserts but it was not enough to save the experience. There is a definite pattern in these reviews, please just learn from it and improve. UPDATE--so I sent them a note based on their below request so they could follow up, that was a week ago and zero response. No surprise really, poor service during the meal, poor service afterward. read more

When we first arrived, I wouldn't have thought to give this restaurant 5 stars since there were so many little things that happened along the way. Once we got seated, we asked for the sommelier. Vito is the one who made the experience worthwhile. He is so passionate about wine that we learned a lot from him. We aren't as familiar with Italian wines but now, we have been enlightened. Instead of apologizing or fixing it politely, Oliver actually blamed her for the mistake. No effort was made to correct the situation, and he never even checked in to see if our food was okay. It's really close several high-end restaurants from barbecue place to a sushi place to a California bistro. Even though this restaurant is very nouveau, bistro, it still has that old time mom and pop family feel in the sense that service is important. There is a nice outdoor area as well. If it's a really nice day youcould sit outside there is a fairly large indoor dining area. They really emphasize a lot of from scratch type of meals with farm to table focus. They also have an extensive wine list and also have some very good wines during happy hour. I've had their roasted porchetta which I felt was actually very good and very real. I also had their chef's board which I would classify as Charcuterie it was very good and during happy hour could easily be a meal. I also had a classic spaghetti and meatballs which was okay. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. I always like to support a local venue. I have been three times, the service was fast and efficient and the food came along quickly. My boyfriend and I go to North almost a few times a month. It's our absolute favorite date night place. We've been fortunate enough to have gone to Italy twice the last two years and this food is so similar to it & the ambiance. They have amazing top quality foods and wines. I love their selection of cocktails they have, it's absolutely delicious and creative! We love to start with the Caesar Salad (a must if you enjoy Caesar's), Mussels appetizer and then we always split the chicken parmesan and the bolognese, or spicy rigatoni entrees. Absolutely delicious! The Juliette Martini is my favorite drink to go with it! To start we were seated and waited 20 minutes before we had to flag down a bus boy to get our waiter's attention, then without any type of apology he asked if we wanted to place a drink order? (What do you think?) then he came back with half of the tables drinks and the other half came about 5 minutes later, at this point we made sure to get our food order in before Houdini disappeared again. After getting the food about a half hour later it came out one or two plates at a time with the last two guests waiting 15 minutes before they got their meals! No bread was offered so i asked Houdini if there was bread and he said he would bring some but he forgot that too! To add to the drama no condiments were given to us so we needed to ask for that ( parm or red pepper flakes for the pasta. After all it's a 25.00 plate of pasta! Just a horrible experience and I will not be back especially after the sub par food quality and awful service!
