This location is small but clean and spacious enough to accommodate approximately 30-50 people. Staff were nice and prompt. Juicy soup dumplings, spicy wontons, green onion pancake, shrimp with egg, beef noodle soup, and sweet and sour fish fillets, have been our usuals. Everything on their menu is good though. I don't think I've tried something I didn't particularly like. Staff is friendly, attentive, and consistent. I really like my dining experience here. It can get busy during peak dining hours but that's normal. I'm already looking forward and planning my next visit for the wonton soup! LOL!! My girlfriend and I frequent this place for their affordability and consistency. We always get their beef roll, orange chicken, and fried rice, and switch up between vegetable dishes, and our bill isn't too high considering their portion sizes. Servers are pretty attentive every time we go, but there's usually a lot of people whenever we go, so you have to wait a bit to get seated and sometimes to pay as well. Parking here is pretty hard though, the lot is shared with Gen KBBQ and other popular restaurants so be prepared to chase after people coming in and out. We were able to get a table right away. I ordered the house special beef noodle soup with tendon and for appetizers we ordered the scallion pancakes, beef rolls, and pork xiao long bao. All the apps tasted delicious. I especially like the pork soup dumplings, there's no Din Tai Fung in the area so their dumplings did the trick for us. My noodle soup was good too, I got it with the knife sliced noodles and it tasted fresh and had a nice chewy texture. The broth was good, I end up adding chili oil and it tasted way better for me. It is the perfect amount of vinegar, sugar, and spice. Definitely recommend. Beef Roll- 4.5/5: They went a bit heavy on the hoisin sauce this time and it was pretty sweet. I've been to several of the Northern Cafe restaurants in the South Bay and thru these different visits I've become a Northern Cafe fan. A recent visit to the Northern Cafe Cerritos location made me further appreciate the Northern Cafe restaurants even more. At my visit here; I got to try old favorites as well as discover new dishes. The Beef Roll has always been a solid dish at Northern Cafe and I'm happy to say that here at the Cerritos location; the dish is as good as what I remember. I love their take on the traditional Taiwanese beef rolls. The outer scallion pancake was perfectly crisp and flaky and the inside was filled with lots of flavorful braised beef. I've tried other wonton dishes at other Northern Cafes but it was here that I first tried the Wonton in Spicy Sauce. The wonton in chili oil was one of my favorties of the day. The wontons were perfectly smothered in scrumptious spicy and savory sauce. Another dish that I tried for the first time was their Sauteed Mixed Mushroom. It's no secret that I am a mushroom fan and so was pleased with this dish as well. This entree was simple yet flavorful. Lastly; I got to try the Sliced Noodle with Braised Chicken. This dish was a bit more of a surprise for me. I expected more noodles in this dish as it was named "Sliced Noodle" but it had a lot more braised chicken in the dish. The braised chicken included boned chicken as well as chicken skin. It was my least favorite out of all the dishes I got to try; not only because of the little noodles but also because the chicken bones and skin were included. Honestly I was really excited to try Northern Cafe for the first time after seeing so many TikToks comparing it to Din Tai Fung-- I knew it wouldn't be as good due to the price difference but man it was really mediocre, or at least this location was. We ordered the cucumber salad, beef roll, and pork dumplings (2). Cucumber salad was straight up water. They didn't salt and drain the cucumbers, so it tasted like 90% water and 10% vinegar. The cucumbers were also soggy due to the lack of salt, I honestly make better ones at home under 5 minutes. The beef roll came out cold to the touch, with the puff pastry being barely warm and the filling inside being dead cold. I'm not sure if they reheated it or left it sitting on the counter for too long, but it was honestly pretty bad. It also had a sweet bbq taste to it which I wasn't expecting since the menu doesn't have any description, so be aware that it'll taste more sweet than savory. The only good thing we had were the soup dumplings, which were good but just standard soup dumplings nothing special about them. Honestly, for the price of the cucumber salad being around 8$ and one order of the soup dumplings being around 12$, save your money and just skip the cucumbers. The service was fine and nothing too special. It was really empty with only 2 tables and the waitresses/hostesses were on the phone and making drinks for the kitchen, but kind of left our table waiting for the check despite being dead empty. If you're coming here for a Din Tai Fung dupe, don't bother and just go to the real thing. Or just don't go here at all honestly and pick another spot. read more

We remembered enjoying Northern Cafe at the Westwood location, so we thought we'd give this location a shot. We are glad we did! The overall favorites were the smashed cucumbers, green beans, beef noodle soup, beef rolls, and green onion pancakes. However, the dumplings were perfectly crispy but not super flavorful, and their famous dan dan noodles were strangely bland and limp (not chewy). Everyone was full and happy, and even after tax and tip, the total was only around $140. Not bad!
