This is a local gem - I hope this place continues to do well because they take pride in their food and service. Tortillas are so good! We ordered the special - price was incredible- a platter of 3 enchiladas con mole, rice, beans, salad, warm tortillas, chips, salsa and a Texas sized iced tea- for less than $7- now that's ridonkulous! It was my first time in San Antonio. I was staying at the Wyndham hotel and they have shut down all of their food service. I decided to try the Oasis Cafe as I wanted to try the breakfast tacos. The staff: super friendly and attentive. Everything you'd want in proper service. They made sure the tables were following social distancing guidelines and they wore masks. The food: I really enjoyed the tacos. They are more filling than youd think. The guisada was my favorite. I was really happy I chose this place. I hope to come back the next time I am in town. read more

Oasis is a hole in the wall gem. Prices are low and flavor is high. Great Mexican food which is a complement for a San Antonio restaurant. The red salsa was perfect. I truly do not get the hype over this place. I had their hamburger based on coworkers recommendations. It was ok. I'd rather have Chris Madrids or even Whataburger. This is the epitome of a hole in the wall. I don't know how this place passes health inspections. I guess some people don't lose their appetites when they see roaches crawling around. read more

Oasis is cheap Mexican food and little else. It isn't *bad* Mexican food. I ordered a chorizo and egg taco, a chorizo and egg breakfast plate, and two pancakes. None of it was *bad*--it was all fine. But that's all it was: fine. Average. But it's *so* average that it's compelled me to write a review. I don't expect gourmet breakfast at joints like this. I love a good little Mexican restaurant run by a small family just as much as the next guy--and I generally know what to expect from them. I'll expect food that may not be Snapchat-worthy, but usually it's damn good. Something--some food on my plate--usually sticks out and I usually find myself wanting to come back. Not Oasis. The eggs and chorizo were fine--but you could make this at home with three eggs and that tube of chorizo wrapped in plastic that you'll find in literally any grocery store. The beans were also fine--but you could make this at home with a can of those refried beans just as well. The potatoes--well, those weren't so fine and were actually some of the worst breakfast potatoes I've had, but breakfast potatoes are not what make a meal. There's nothing special about oasis. I find myself frustrated not because it was a BAD experience (service was great, the prices were amazing, and the food did not suck) but because it was just an average one. When one sees 4.5 stars on Yelp, one expects a good experience, at the minimum. That's not what oasis is for. And maybe it's just where I'm from--in Southern California, joints like this are my go-to--but average isn't good enough. read more

I'm a bit confused by the high ratings here. This is one of the worst meals I've ever paid for. I'm fairly certain the chips were store bought and my fajita nachos were far over priced, even at $6.00 or so! I got about 8 chips with yellow American or cheddar cheese on them. Super confused. I spent $18 on a dissatisfying meal and could have gotten much more food at FAR better quality elsewhere. I think calling it TexMex is code for "don't expect too much" at Oasis. People seem to rave about the breakfast, which consumed about half of the menu. I might consider patronizing them again if they offered me a FREE breakfast, but that's about it. This may be the spot for some, but it's definitely not for me. read more

This place was an awesome find. We were in San Antonio for a quick family getaway and I really wanted a good breakfast place. We found this place through Yelp. We found parking right away and went on in. The name of this place doesn't quite fit. It is truly Mexican food, but the name wouldn't tell you that. I ordered breakfast tacos. They were generous portions and the salsa was tasty. My husband ordered Juevos Rancheros. He said the taste wasn't what he was expecting but that it was still really good. It was probably just a bit more authentic. The kiddos ordered eggs and pancakes. I was thrilled that they had this as an option. Service was great and the people didn't seem to mind that we were the only tourists in the place with little kids. read more

I made arrangements to meet another business owner in downtown San Antonio today. I figured we may as well grab a bite somewhere nearby before our meeting and Oasis Cafe was within easy walking distance. Any mexican cafe that you spot with a tamalada in progress is a place I definitely want to try. I arrived on a rainy lunch hour drenched from the downpour slightly after 11am. Seeing the tamalada in action was a special treat and I knew right then I'd be happy with my eating experience. Oasis Cafe has lunch specials (including drink) for $6.50. Free tortilla chips and salsa were served to us and I followed the suggestion of our server by choosing the senorita special (cheese chalupa, puffy taco, cheese enchilada, beans, rice and tortillas) along with a tea. Our server was attentive. She kept checking up on us regularly to make sure we had a pleasant dining experience. The food here sings. I loved every bite and appreciate eating on an actual plate using silverware instead of cheap plasticware. The building has character as buildings that have been around for awhile do. This isn't a spot geared for tourists but for the locals who want good food downtown without paying the inflated tourist prices. Who comes here? It's the locals who come here. People who work downtown and self employed business owners like me. Spend your dollars supporting small business in your community. They really appreciate the patronage. Absolutely I'll be back. We were in town for the Alamo Bowl, and needed to satisfy our breakfast hankering for something local, Tex-Mex, genuine, heartfelt. Avoiding the overtly commercial Riverwalk area, we stumbled upon the Oasis Cafe. Easy to miss, we peered in, and were glad we did. A heaping plate of chorizo con huevos, homemade tortillas, and coffee for me, several chilaquiles tacos and coffee for my friend, and friendly banter with the folks at the surrounding tables made for an enjoyable experience. Attentive service, amazingly low cost, and delicious food. We will definitely stop in the next time we find ourselves in San Antonio. read more

1st time I came here, I ate the Mole Chicken Enchiladas lunch plate. The mole tastes exactly how I like it & I especially love that it was a part of their weekly lunch special for $6.75 along with a sweet tea. So I decided to try it again for lunch & boy was I disappointed. The 2nd time, I ordered the Chicken Flautas plate. The chicken was absolutely flavorless, the rice was hard & seemed to have been from a batch made the day before & was saved for the next day. I gave them the benefit of the doubt & decided to try them a 3rd time for lunch today, being that the mole enchiladas were so delicious. I ordered the Gorditas lunch plate & once again was highly dissatisfied. I asked for the beef gorditas & what I received were 2 huge chunks of boiled potato with a little bit of unseasoned ground beef topped with a handful of lettuce. The rice was hard AGAIN! And to top of off, I found a piece of HAIR in my half eaten Gordita. The Charro beans were good, but I have had & have made way better. I gave it 1 star because of my 1st visit but other than that, I'd recommend you go somewhere else. Unless you like flavorless food, then I absolutely recommend this place to you. read more

WOW!!! We loved the breakfast. We had a chorizo platter and a chilaquiles platter. The food is delicious and the staff very attentive and friendly. We had an exceptional meal with the locals. Even the coffee was good. Can't wait to try the lunch menu. Whenever driving through town, we will definitely stop here for a break. Love it! The streets are all shut down around there so that was a bit of an issue, but the food here is great. They have a lunch special which includes your tea and then a Mexican plate. I normally get the enchiladas verdes and it is the perfect amount of food. Never feel rushed because the food comes out quick, so I still have time to walk back to the office within my allotted lunch time. read more

At first glance we almost didn't sit down. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but to avoid awkwardness we took a vinyl seat and waited for coffee. The best thing about this restaurant is the people that work there. It's a very friendly and service with a smile kind of place. The food is good, but not spectacular. I ordered the huevos rancheros and the sauce was really good (the best I've had!), the beans and flour tortillas were good, the potatoes were a bit on the greasy side, and the bacon was very thin with very little meat on it. Great local restaurant with amazing food. We stayed at the Hotel Contessa and it was a short 5-10 walk to get to the Oasis. Divey looking, but wonderful, cheap good. Definitely recommend if you like to get off the beaten path & away from the tourist spots. read more

Fantastic Mexican breakfast! Being the only gringos in he place was encouraging. I ordered the bistec and huevos rancheros (steak & eggs) with corn tortillas. Plate also comes with beans and potatoes. It was perfect except I ordered my eggs scrambled and what I received was loosely scrambled fried egg. Parts of the yoke hadn't solidified yet. Not my cup of tea, but I didn't let it ruin our experience. Wife had the chilaquiles and they were fantastic! Handmade corn tortillas. Place is pure awesome! read more

I spent 4 days in San Antonio and this was the best meal I had there. Also the best huevos rancheros I've had in my life. If my grandmother was Mexican, I would say this is exactly like grandma used to make. If you are anywhere near this place between 7am and 3pm you MUST go here. Everything was freshly made... This is a good alternative to blanco cafe. You can get mostly the same things for a few dollars cheaper. Its not fancy except for possibly their fancy breaded chili releno. I go here for lunch when I am in a hurry and just need good service. read more
