Beautiful rooftop view of Ocean Beach and surrounding area. Laid back and relaxed vibe- you order directly downstairs and find a seat upstairs, and your food gets brought to you. Beers on tap lean toward no particular brew, thankfully. You won't have to dodge IPAs all night like in Vegas. Lots of Mexican brews. Golden ales and similar on tap. Fish tacos are top notch like other reviews recommend. I would recommend the Mahi mahi tacos above the shrimp. Housemate hummus is also a solid choice. Another place to chase those Cali Sunsets! Though it wasn't my favorite sunset spot in OB, you can still catch those glimpses. My friend and I drank the exact opposite of what we should have had at OB, we went for the wine and Ashland Seltzer. I wish they had some sour beers on tap, though the ashland setlzer's hit the spot. It was one of those days where I didn't realize how drunk I had gotten - they're just seltzer's right? But by the time I got home and walked the dogs I had to crash on the couch at 7pm and zonk out! read more

Hodad's and Pizza Port are 300 feet from here, so you must be good if you are nearby the best 2 of 5 restaurants in San Diego right by you. I ordered the shrimp street tacos. So good and the view from the roof is amazing. The tortillas were beautiful and full of stuffing. Not the best place on the strip, but it was good. They had a great beer list too. read more

This review is mostly for the drinks and view, since we've only ever ordered the fries here (garlic and regular are both great!). You order food and drinks downstairs at the counter, then get your drinks handed to you, along with a number for your food. You can sit on the downstairs covered patio or one of the two top floor patios. There is also a middle floor with shuffleboard and some seating and bathrooms. I went with a group of friends around 6 pm on a Thursday and we were able to get a table upstairs, no problem. The food was good bar food and it was self serve at the bar to order. Oh my gosh, how have I not been to OB Brewery recently? I ended up there after an afternoon at dog beach and I am SO happy that my original plan to go to a Mediterranean restaurant in the area didn't pan out. At first I thought I'd only be able to sit outside on the bottom level since I had my pupper with me, but the bartender informed me that I could literally sit anywhere on any of the three levels that I wanted. So of course, I chose to go to the top floor with the ocean view. It was a beautiful evening, my dog was worn out from running around at the beach, there was a great beer selection, and a multi-option menu (albeit small). I couldn't have stumbled onto anything better. After some deliberation, I opted to try the El Diablo Double Burger: Tillamook Cheddar, Pickles (none for me! Yuck!), Roasted Tomato, Red Onion, Spicy Aioli, Brioche, and Gremolata Fries. As soon as I ordered the waitress commented that it was a great choice, so I knew it would be delicious, and boy was it! It was gigantic though, so I immediately cut the burger in half to take home. I finished the first half, but only ate about 1/3 of the fries, which made for a full meal the following day. Burgers and fries are never the best leftover, but both were SO good fresh. I loved the spicy aioli and think next time I'll try the OBB Monster Pita Tacos as they come with the aioli as well. My lunch date went for The Mona Lisa: Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast, Teriyaki Sauce, Grilled Pineapple, Bacon on Brioche, and Gremolata Fries. The entire plate was devoured and deemed delicious. I noticed a brunch menu and would absolutely LOVE to plan a girl's brunch here, maybe with all of the pups. Most of my friends (as well as myself) live a bit north, but there isn't much to dislike about Ocean Beach and I think the view alone could easily convince them! read more

After stopping by the dog beach I wanted to try some local breweries in the area. Even though OB is on a busy drag it was pretty easy to find parking nearby and that's part of why we ended up coming here. Walking in was a little awkward with a bottleneck as soon as you came in, with people standing around for the rest of their party, deciding on a beer, leaving it made me feel a little claustrophobic. I ended up ordering a saison initially and instead of going up chose to go around the side to sit. Which was pretty light and easy drinking, beach beer, basically. At this point I was getting a little peckish so I went back in line to order their wings and garlic fries and got a cream ale as well. I was impressed with the food-I was figuring pretty basic bar food but it was really well done. The wings were meaty with a good amount of heat and the garlic fries were awesome- with just the right amount of fresh garlic spread throughout. The cream ale paired well with the food. I dropped by for a beer and lunch with my dog on 5/1/21 and the service was great. First off, it's dog friendly so that's a plus for me. The guy at the front counter helped me pick the right beer and had a very friendly attitude. My doggo and I sat on the 3rd floor which is outdoor seating and the 2 male servers was also great with assisting me with my order. These guys were on it! I always appreciate great service. Many people only believe in reviewing from a bad experience. I believe in doing both. No bad review for this place on my end. I was very impressed with the service so I tipped my server really well. Still one of my favorite breweries to go to and to bring visitors to. Their menu has expanded and I actually had a really good Asian ahi salad there the other night. I love sitting on the roof top and they are one place that always has their heaters running. The beers they have are hit or miss for me so sometimes my husband and I drink wine! And that's what I love about this place that they carry other alcoholic beverages other then beer! The view is the best and the people are great! You can't beat this location! Make sure you head upstairs and get a seat at the rooftop facing the beach. The manager recommended a great IPA to go with our food. We had an amazing lunch here on our recent trip to Ocean Beach. I would give it a full 5 stars, but service was a bit delayed. They didn't come upstairs frequently enough to take orders. Came upon OB Brewery while exploring the area and dropped in for lunch. Ordered a cold brewery fresh IPA and a BLAT sandwich for me and a burger for Swea' Pea. The BLAST was quite scrumptious with a generous portion of wild salmon, bacon and aioli with lettuce sandwiched between two pieces of grilled ciabatta. The burger was also quite nice; large and juicy with a big basket of garlic fries. When paired with a refreshing, crisp IPA with an amazing view of the ocean from the outdoor patio on the third floor, OB Brewery is hard to beat! read more

Stopped in on a slow night so they were closing early but still friendly enough to set me up with a flight 20 odd minutes prior to closing time. I sat on the first floor so did not make it upstairs.   They have some outdoor seating overlooking the street and a couple of tables on the first floor. Have to return to see the views from the roof top.  I hear the views are really nice. read more

First time here. Visiting San Diego for a few days. I would give this place 4 or 5 stars for location and the ambience of the restaurant. You order your food and beer as you walk in and then find seating on the floors. They bring the food to you. We had our beer and food on the rooftop dining area. Awesome. Unfortunately, the beer and food did not live up to the 4 or 5 star rating. I had a grilled chicken sandwich which was average. My other two dining companions had a similar reaction to their meals. The fries were good :) The beer selection seemed fairly small and limited. They didn't have any double or triple IPAs. I'm not sure if they regularly change up their beer list, but they should. read more

Genuinely one of the worst places you can patronize in OB. The beer selection is decent, although the menu is never accurate. The wings are OK. The pickle poppers were hands down the saltiest thing I have ever eaten anywhere. I know salty foods encourage drinking, but if you want a beer, you are going to have to wait in line for 15+ minutes. Informality reigns supreme at the OB Brewery on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach, just a half a block up from the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean. I attended elementary school for a few years nearby [Sacred Heart Academy] and my childhood home was just up the hill and one block over on Santa Monica Avenue, which I guess renders me a confirmed "local". When I grew up here, we never used the term "OB" to describe our town. I do know when that fashion started. It was always the full "Ocean Beach" for us! Upon entering the propped-open glass door on Newport, one is confronted with a bar, done up in tones of hunter green [I heard a man at the bar shouting to his friends "I just won the lottery!" as I walked in the door]. Having read about the restaurant on Yelp, I knew to turn left and make my way up the three flights of stairs to reach the rooftop dining room. Once aloft, I did not know what to do, since there is no designated reception. Happily, a server passed by at that moment [I would later learn her name was Kayla] and she graciously welcomed me and advised I could take a seat anywhere I wished and she would bring over a menu. The restaurant apparently "rations out" the menus---they do not have a sufficient number to go around. There are plenty of red umbrellas on the rooftop, but they are all firmly tied closed [too windy perhaps?], so there is very little shade, which is an issue to consider in this day and age of acute awareness of sun damage. Steve ended up taking care of me, and he had a quiet and pleasant manner. The restaurant was out of the one thing I wanted to order [Swordfish BLT], so I opted for the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, slathered with a vibrantly-green "basil-pesto" [isn't pesto ALWAYS basil, by definition?] Only beer and wine are available, so there will be no Irish Coffee, Green Chartreuse or Sambucca Romana after dinner. read more

Okay so we went to this place last night on our lil getaway with our furr babies to OB. We got there ordered downstairs and took us 1 hour and lil over 20 minutes to get our order. We seen 3 groups/parties get their food before us and it was only two of us me and my wife, their was 3+ in thief party and they order more and it was brought out before ours. My wife got a lil cold from the sea breeze and had time to run to our vehicle to get her sweater from 4 floors of hiking down and up to our vehicle and few blocks away sand back still our food wasn't their. Then came out 20 minutes later. And it wasn't even busy. Like that it's dog friendly which pretty much all places are there. That's why our furr babies vacationed their and we were invited along. Nice views but if your lgbtq I think it's not a good place to stop at try another place. read more

We came today 8/4 around 5 pm with my son and husband and two dogs. I got the bacon burger and my son got chicken fingers. My burger was inedible. It was so dry and tasteless I fed the whole thing to my dogs and spit my bite into a napkin. My sons chicken fingers were just ok if a bit over cooked. My main complaint was the blonde woman who brought us our food was a total b*tch to us and so incredibly rude. I don't know who shit in her Cheerios this morning but we will absolutely not be back. I've been here a few times and had mixed experiences. The view is beautiful and the staff are generally friendly and helpful, however the food is a bit pricey and nothing to write home about. The garlic fries are basically just regular fries dusted with a small amount of garlic powder which I could barely taste. Unfortunately at our most recent visit, I asked for a side of ranch and the server who delivered our food was very rude, said we would need to open another tab to pay for it, and walked away. Right amount of spice. Pair it with some BBQ sauce for that hint of sweetness. The bartender Shawn is cool af. We brought some guests in town here for lunch on a beautiful sunny day; such a great view of the ocean from OB Brewery's rooftop. We started sipping some delicious, cold IPAs, and really enjoying life. Then the food showed up... The burger tasted like a frozen patty right out of the deep freeze. The tomatoes on it were a gross translucent pink color, very unappetizing. The French fries were soggy and flavorless. The nail in the coffin were the pickle poppers which were absolutely inedible. They were clearly fried in the same frier as some stinky fish, because they TASTED LIKE FISH. I love pickles but these nearly brought me to vomit. I can't justify coming back here, even for the great view, with so many better food options in OB. read more

Aside from the incredible rooftop view, unfortunately I was not impressed. I visited with my family during happy hour to find a menu with little variation from the standard menu (no discounted pricing for the nachos) and of little variety. It's certainly a unique concept to order food first at the counter and then ascend several flights of narrow stairs to the rooftop. Sadly the order taker was not to patient and did not seem to be understanding with regards to our questions pertaining to the happy hour menu. Be sure to grab a glass of water from the jug behind you before you climb. As aforementioned, the view from the rooftop really is incredible and a reminder why we are so grateful to live in San Diego. Gazing out over the Pacific Ocean, as the sun slowly dips behind the OB Pier is a sight to behold. The views are not enough however to compensate for the food quality. The mozzarella sticks were not very tasteful and the cheese rubbery. The nachos were subpar, and at $14, this was a pricey disappointment. The chicken on the nachos was tasteless and also rubbery. The fries were okay, but the garlic and salt seasoning were overpowering. Perhaps the experience is better at other meal times, but we do not plan on returning. read more

The place is worn out and grungy. Looks like they have a frat party in there every weekend and do not have the time, desire or $ to enact repairs. Or really clean.
