During the recent windstorm we forgot to retract the awning and it was damaged. I first called the original installer, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The first thing they told us was that the damage wouldn't be covered because we didn't retract it during the wind storm, and the customer service was extremely rude. It also reminded me how difficult it was working with them in the first place, they gave us the runaround for almost 6 months before the original installation. After that, I reached out to Where Shade Is Made, and the difference was night and day. I spoke directly with the owner, who assured me I would get a call Monday morning to schedule the repair. Sure enough, Monday morning I received a call from Jimmy their GM, and from that point on everything was smooth and professional. By the very next day our shade was repaired and working perfectly again. Even better, Jimmy let us know that the repair didn't require as much work as originally expected, which actually made the final cost lower than the quote. That kind of honesty and customer service is rare these days. Thank you Where Shade Is Made for the amazing service. I truly appreciate the professionalism and quick turnaround. Brett promised the world during the sales process, but once the contract was signed, the follow-through completely disappeared. After that, everything was handed off to Casey and communication went downhill fast. Weekend availability is terrible. I purchased the shutters in November, and installation didn't happen until months later. Brett measured my windows twice, then a younger employee came out and measured again. When the third-party installers finally showed up, they had the wrong measurements. How does that even happen after three separate visits? On top of that, Casey was extremely rude and condescending. She also kept my credit card on file without my permission, which is completely unacceptable. The level of unprofessionalism throughout this entire process was through the roof. Also, the first photo shown on this so-called business profile (the one with the curtains) apparently doesn't even belong to them...or at least that's the impression I got when I asked Brett about it. After all the inconvenience, delays, and frustration, I honestly expected some type of discount or acknowledgment of the issues. Unfortunately, that never happened. Very disappointing experience.

I picked a cloth that I liked and paid a deposit so they could start manufacturing the frames and awning cloths to fit. About three weeks later, I was given a date they would like to install the awnings and I agreed. Three weeks later, Mario said they were ready and asked if I was ready for install. All good. He installed new, stainless-steel rollers in place of the old, broken plastic ones and replaced rusted, broken screws on the frame. He also aligned the door, cleaned the track, and showed me the proper lubricant to keep things moving. He was also great with our two dear dogs, and they liked him just fine. We decided to go with Juan and Raul for our patio, and I'm really glad we did. Their team showed up not just on time, but early on the day of demo and installation. They worked efficiently and completed everything in just one day, which honestly exceeded our expectations. What I appreciated most was how easy it was to communicate with both Juan and Raul. They were responsive, patient with my questions, and very open to making adjustments to fit exactly what we wanted. I never felt brushed off or rushed, which is rare. The workmanship turned out clean and solid. The structure feels sturdy, everything looks well-aligned, and the finish came out exactly how we envisioned. So far we're really happy with everything.... now we'll see how it holds up once we get some rain I'll follow-up with some pictures.

It's been over a year now since my initial install and I want to 1) update on the quality of the…read moreproduct, and 2) update on the service the Hicks team has provided. First off: we love our custom door, it continues to be a highlight of our home (super important making a great impression as people enter). It swings easily and is super stable. Recently the bolt holding the door frame to the wall came loose (likely from a mix of daily use and our shifting soils here in San Clemente). Not entirely surprising that there'd be some "settling in" given that it's a fairly massive completely custom door - but still, it had been over a year since the Hicks team finished the job. I emailed and asked: is this sort of thing covered? Well... Myke came out personally and spent the better part of two hours fixing the issue - not only thoroughly reinforcing the door frame but also upgrading the other side of the frame with a new customer stopper to increase security but also improve the operation of the door. It's been almost 18 months since install and Myke came out free of charge. Went well above and beyond and shook my hand and wished me well. If you think "good people doing good work" is hard to find... I hope you find this review, and give Myke Hicks a call.

Good finished work, but this experience changed my opinion significantly…read more TL;DR: I previously gave Hicks 5 stars after our first project, and they still feature that review on their website. We hired them again and have now spent tens of thousands of dollars with them. Both pergolas look very good. On this second project, Hicks chose to handle an unexpected sprinkler conflict rather than have me bring someone else in, the repair failed, and it appears they never performed the basic test to make sure it worked. When I raised it, the owner became hostile, insulted me, and hung up on me. I later gave Hicks a written opportunity to inspect or fix it before anyone else touched the repair and received no response. That experience changed my opinion of the company significantly. I hired Hicks again because our first project had been a genuinely good experience. Across both jobs we had worked through material and scheduling delays, possible conflicts with power lines and solar panels, and changes involving the patio flooring without major problems. Both finished pergolas look very good. The sprinkler issue came up immediately before excavation. Nothing in the estimate or our earlier discussions gave me reason to think the footings would extend outside the existing concrete patio and into the grass. I first realized that when I saw the red excavation markings and noticed they conflicted with a sprinkler head and the line serving other heads. I raised it immediately. Since the contract says Hicks is not responsible for sprinkler routes, placement, or repairs, I specifically offered to coordinate and pay for someone else to handle it. Hicks told me that was unnecessary, that they had the fittings they needed, and that their crew would cut, move, and reconnect the line. I took that as a professional courtesy and relied on what they told me. While they were excavating, I also offered to turn the sprinkler zone on remotely from my phone so they could test the repair. They did not take me up on it. Since the system is easy to activate in person, I assumed they would simply test it themselves. Project delays had compressed the schedule, and we were rushing to finish the walkthrough and final payment before I left on a business trip the next day. We carefully checked the pergola itself, which looked good, but forgot the sprinklers. A day or two later, while traveling, I realized we had missed that check. I activated the zone remotely and could see through my backyard camera that something looked wrong. Rather than bother Hicks based only on a remote view, I waited until I got home to verify it. Several heads that were clearly working immediately before excavation no longer worked, and a substantial amount of water was leaking beside the new installation. The zone was effectively unusable for around two weeks, and parts of the lawn it normally waters developed obvious dead and brown patches. Hicks later acknowledged in writing that "a fitting must've came loose" and that perhaps there had not been enough glue. The repair itself is not what turned this into such a big issue for me. The way it was handled did. During about a five-minute phone call, the owner got heated and defensive, used foul language, called me names, spoke disrespectfully, and hung up on me. He later told me that I "don't know how this works" and that he was not going to read my written explanation. This was completely unlike anything I had experienced with Hicks before. After that, I sent a written notice giving Hicks an opportunity to inspect or arrange to fix the problem before anyone else touched it. I got no response. After the deadline passed, I had the area excavated and repaired. The sprinkler pipe was physically separated at a connection in the area of the leak, which I documented with photos. The system is now working again. What bothers me most is that Hicks chose to take on the sprinkler work, apparently did not do the most basic test afterward, and then treated me this way when I raised the problem. That is especially disappointing because they previously handled a warranty issue very well. A few months after our first pergola was installed, the integrated lighting controller failed after apparently getting water in it. Hicks came back promptly and fixed it at no charge, which increased my confidence in using them again. Both pergolas look very good and Hicks deserves credit for that. But part of hiring a contractor is trusting how they handle problems after final payment. After this experience, I no longer feel comfortable recommending Hicks, I am concerned about relying on them for potential future warranty work, and I would not hire them again unless this is made right. That is why I am updating my previous 5-star review to 2 stars. I will update this review again if and when the situation is resolved. EDIT: Not a warranty claim. I offered to hire a pro; Hicks chose to do the repair, so they still had to use reasonable care.

When we told him we were not certain about the style of doors for some of the items he urged us to sign the contract to take advantage of the discount and assured us we would be able to update via a change order. Nothing would be ordered until the choices were made and the change order was executed. We have done many remodeling projects over the years and change orders are standard so we had no reason to doubt his assurances. Since then he has overpromised and failed to deliver. Every time we texted or emailed to ask about the change order status he reiterated that it was with the office, everyone was aware, nothing would be ordered and the change order would be sent - tonight, tomorrow, next day...you get the picture. After weeks of waiting for the change order so we could move on the project, we tried to escalate a number of times because based on the reviews we expected better customer service. However, we were told we needed to resolve all the miscommunications and failed follow through with the salesman that had failed to follow through. Imagine our surprise when we got a text that some of the doors were ready for installation. The salesman was shocked as he had told us nothing would be ordered until the change order was signed. In an effort to salvage the project and because we wanted to believe the salesman, we allowed for partial installation. The installation was riddled with additional issues. Wrong hardware, wrong trim, no wood molding around the door. The salesman was apologetic and did not understand why there was a disconnect. After another few weeks of messages, emails and requests to escalate, we finally got confirmation that the salesperson and the director of revenue would come to our home at 2pm on 6/22. They arrived late 30 minutes late (even though my husband had made it clear he was meeting them during his lunch hour) and the director of revenue was defensive and put all blame on the misrepresentations made by their salesman on us. During the meeting the salesman told him that the remaining doors had not been ordered. After that meeting the company STILL had the salesman follow up to ask how we wanted to proceed. He was embarrassed at that point because he was telling us the company would be able to address our concerns and they hung him out to dry. Even though it wasn't our fault, in an effort to put this nightmare behind us and NEVER deal with them again, after a few exchanges with the director of revenue, we agreed to a resolution provided they completed the project by today. No response for over a week until this afternoon when they basically said 'thanks for agreeing to letting us do what we haven't done but keep bending over backwards so we can do it in our terms'. @owner of the company you should step in sooner and not wait for the online reviews to try justifying the experience. For all those that posted 1 star reviews in the last year we should talk about options. Based on your experiences I can tell is not the individual players. It's the company.

The lady in the office who assisted me helped me find an open spot that accommodated my schedule which was great since my availability during the week is very limited! David, the technician who came out to my home for the consultation appointment was super professional, friendly and very informative with the products he was selling. I decided to purchase polycore shutters for all the bedrooms in my home, the living and dining room, and also bought motorized roller shades for the 3 windows in the back of my house. The installer Anthony was just as great as the previous guy, David! I am absolutely in love with my shutters and shades. Having the blackout motorized roller shades definitely keeps out the sun from beaming into the home but what is also nice is that from the touch of a button I am able to lift up the shades and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean! I can't not rave about OC Quality Home Products enough and 100% recommend them. As their company name reads, they make and install quality products. We ordered a retractable screen, 2 shutters for our backyard doors and one half oval shutter for a pesky window in our master that let far too much light in. Each item has been great but what I found most pleasant were the employees of OC Quality Home Products. Josh and Anthony were an absolute pleasure to have in my home. They took care of placing anything against our brand new painted walls, did a great job at cleaning up, and even put the toilet seat down after using my bathroom! I mean the little things really do count and to me the small details are just as valuable as the product. When you have people in your home it is important to feel comfortable and respected and these two did just that! Cheyenne was also just lovely and professional over the phone. Excellent! I now have a Clearview, retractable screen which was custom installed to fit our small, garage door without loosing essential, door space. I'm so glad we have it! The screen door is beautiful, the tan frame color matches the building exterior perfectly, and I can see through the black screen so well you barely notice it...hence the product name, Clearview. :) The only minute negative is that it does take a little bit of strength to pull close the screen door. Opening the screen is effortless. The magnet closure is strong, works really well and releases easily. OC Quality Home Products was outstanding to work with! David, Owner, made it all possible with suggesting a custom install so we would not lose essential, door space. Anthony, Master Installer, did a fantastic job!!! OC Quality Home Products is all about SERVICE to the CUSTOMER! The Clearview Retractable screen door is top-of-the-line. But, even more important is the PET GUARD upgrade that OC Quality offers - I think this upgrade is ONLY OFFERED by OC Quality. At first, I wondered if I had needed the $75 pet guard upgrade...my cats seemed to just "look" at the screen and leave it alone. Then, right in front of me, my tabby boy, without hesitation, slipped easily under the screen! I knew then that the pet guard had been well worth the price and I now use it daily! Dave and his guys were very professional and clear about all applications of my project. He explain the installation process and time frames for the work to be completed. You know when dealing with most contractors, its never on time and always more cost. Well, he wasn't late and my back yard is my man cave. The drop screens allow me to stay outside all year around. They look and feel like I'm at a resort. I had the electric drop screens in for three years now and have not had any problems. After a lot of research with retractable screen doors we wanted to go with clearview brand. OC Quality Home Products was the dealer for these. Anthony came to our home to give us a quote and show us examples. Anthony was very professional and had time for all the questions my wife and I had. A few weeks later (due to clear view factory having to make multiple orders), Anthony installed our retractable screen door. Looks and slides amazing! We love it. This is my second great adventure with OC. They did a great job on 3 1/2 inch polycore shutters at our Corona house and just completed another excellent installation at my sister's place in Irvine. Everything from customer service during the measuring and ordering process to the actual installation has been great. There's never an issue they can't handle. I recommend Thrifty Shutters very highly. They came to our house to fix 18 year old wood shutters that had deteriorated in the sun on a big picture window. It was a two-person crew and communication was difficult due to a language barrier (mandarin speaking only), which made it hard to clarify details or ask questions during the process. We did use Google Translate but it only went so far. My biggest concern is the inconsistent quality of the roller shade and blind installations. Some blinds operate correctly, but others shift when adjusting them -- the headrail moves up and down whenever the tilt wand is used. Instead of correcting the mounting, a temporary workaround was used that leaves the headrail sticking out about an inch. There were also measurement and fit issues. One roller shade cassette appeared to be incorrectly sized and had to be forced into place. Several shades are not evenly aligned within the window frames, with varying inset depths that are visibly inconsistent. Additionally, one of the roller shades fails to fully close, which suggests quality or installation problems. Overall, I'm disappointed with the workmanship and finish.
