A friend of mine recommended this place so we all went one night. This is a mixed review of both ups and downs. I suppose I'm also a little bias in this situation because I work at a sushi restaurant. I'll start with the ups: Cute little place with lots of parking because it's next to a motel. The salmon and tuna sushi was absolutely amazing. The texture and taste was perfect. The service was also great, very sweet and energetic energy from the chefs and the servers. Their happy hour prices are a steal, from $10.50 for specialty rolls to $3.95 for a beer. Budget friendly causal place overall. For the downs it was only the quality of the sauces and the menu descriptions: On the menu, none of the rolls state they have any sauces on them and when the rolls we ordered came out covered in sauce, I'm guessing eel and spicy mayo, I was disappointed. Personally I despise eel sauce, too sweet for me, and this eel sauce tasted like syrup. I thought I was being over dramatic, but even my friends thought it tasted like straight sugar. The spicy mayo was also sweet which didn't seem right. The crispy rice was soaked in eel sauce and I just couldn't eat it. Overall not a bad place, but if you don't like sauces be careful. Now, I'd normally say that eating sushi at a motel is a bit more extreme of an experience than I'd be willing to put my stomach through. Driving to the airport one day, we spotted this establishment and due to the aforementioned hesitation, I passed it on PCH and started Yelping places to eat. Looking at the ratings, the photos and the love, I knew a U turn had to be made. This is truly a gem that proves that Yelpers should be adventurous and overcome fears that can make a place appear out of place on the outside. I did need a little Yelpy bump from others to see through that and I am glad to have made the stop, and even returned on another visit. On to the food, the Yellowtail appetizer with garlic and Jalapeño is truly the best yellowtail I've ever tried! It's gentle, fatty, bursting with flavor and simply unbelievable. I think that dish alone is worth coming here for. Other Sashimi like salmon and tuna was excellent too, served in a very generous portion. Sushi rolls are American style and are delicious. And pitchers of Sapporo are a true steal, especially for Cali prices! It's easy to tell that folks here put their hearts into the food, and dishes are simple, yet delicious. If it's group seating there's probably room for about 10 groups, total it can probably house 75-100 people. It's got it's simple cultural decor with some good pop music and a few tvs to keep you entertained. Seems like a favorite spot for locals and a pretty simple hangout spot. FOOD: Oho Special (Recommend) Beautiful presentation and wealthy portion. I enjoyed the mix of flavors and the umami taste it has to it. Salmon Belly Sashimi (Recommend) This usually defines my sushi spot for me aaaand it passes. A reasonable amount of slices that were pretty cold, fresh, and flavorful. ALSO they actually had it. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Orders came quick and the chefs were friendly. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Good food, reasonable price, and excellent selections. Found a nice diamond in the Long Beach area for sushi. Right on the PCH is a small well adorned shop with great service and informative sushi chefs. Had the lunch special sashimi plate which came with a choice of roll, soup and salad. Fresh fish and nice portion (slightly thinner then use too but good). At 4 solid stars and 1000 plus reviews, I was expecting awesome. Lobster Roll $12: baked lobster w Mayo, avocado, masago, soy paper wrap, sesame seed sprinkle. Cold is the first word to mind, light taste is the second. No amazing flavor or anything. Was like a strip of lobster almost like the imitation crab stick width cut along 5-6 sushi roll slices. Fairly thin slice which I prefer cuz it fits better in my mouth. Was good to try. Wouldn't try again tho. Crab Company Roll $13: "The hulk roll", fried soft shell crab, "lean salad" aka imicrabmeatmash, avocado top, cucumber slivers, green onion, massago, sesame seed sprinkle, slightly spicy mayo? Not sure why it's referenced as the hulk roll, unless for the avocado....but then what would the caterpillar roll be then. I guess this is a caterpillar roll but soft shell crab instead of eel. Again first word is cold. Slight hint of spicy but that gets covered up fast. Avocado slices were thin but bright green. Soft shell crab maybe not fresh, couple pieces had that off fishy taste. Again flavors were bland. Nothing amazing, but maybe it's cuz the rolls were so cold. I did call in the order (1135). ETA15min. Arrived in 9minutes (1144). Hadn't started the crab co roll yet so was invited to sit down and wait maybe something to drink? Pass, I'm just here in n out, nice of them to offer tho. Place was butt empty. Should've been warning flag 1. Granted they open at 1130. Legit places tho fill out mad fast at lunch time. Order ready at 1149, got back to office and immediately opened my rolls...sooo I would've expected maybe warm rolls at worst. Not cold cold like I bought it at Albertsons from the refrigerated "asian cuisine" section. Parking: shared with a motel? That's...not expected. I would hate to come when it's packed. Luckily when I arrived it was only half filled but I think that's from the motel. There's literally nothing else besides the motel in this lot. It's like the motels' "fine dining lounge that hotels have". Wheelchair ramp right in front too. Of note they have a happy hour menu, usually that skews the ratings.
