Okay wait... I think I just found my new favorite pasta place. The espresso martini was sooo good -- strong, smooth, and exactly what I needed. Not one of those watered-down ones. This one did its job. We started with the mussels and wow. They were perfectly cooked -- super plump and juicy, and the white wine sauce was just right. We were basically dipping everything in it. The pizza was good, just a little thicker than I usually like, but still solid. The pappardelle though... that was the star. The ragu was rich and flavorful, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. I have been wanting to try this place forever and finally got the chance! Came here with my mom on a Thursday night without reservations around 7 and we're seated immediately at the bar. The owner/manager was there helping people out and he was so lovely. So great to see that he is so involved. We were recommended to get an appetizer, pizza and pasta. If it's just two of you I would definitely say stick to two dishes because we had a lot leftover!!! I had been wanting to try one of the burratas and it was amazing. We ordered the house bread on the side which seems to be very similar to their pizza bread. The pesto was so herby and the burrata was rich and creamy. The mint and peas were a unique touch. The prosciutto pizza came out with a beautiful aroma of truffle and the stracciatella was very creamy. My mother and I do not usually like pizza but the pinsa was great! I live nearby and I can't believe I've not been until last week. What a fabulous neighborhood gem! The Caesar was absolutely fantastic, and the artichoke hearts were quite interesting. The pepperoni pizza was good, and my pappardelle was also quite nice though the hit of the evening was the mussels...the Sofia was easily one of the best mussels I've had in a while. I could sip that broth every day! Our server Alec was friendly and attentive and the owner Alessandro was charming and personable. His presence throughout the evening made for a truly "neighborhood place" feel. The inside hasn't changed much since the previous establishment and it's kept its charm and elegance. Came to Oste to celebrate a friend's birthday! After doing some research on the menu before coming here, I realized I was going to have a VERY tough decision on what to eat. The pizzas, pastas, and meat dishes all looked top-notch. In the end, I decided to choose a Calabrese pizza because Oste serves Roman-style pizza, and you don't see that every day. Pizza was thin and crispy and the toppings were perfectly spread out on the top. Very good! I did sneak a taste of my friend's Lasagna al Forno and it was pretty damn good. For desserts, we shared a Butterscotch Budino, Oste Tiramisu, and Limoncelle Olive Oil Cake. Of the three, the Butterscotch Budino was easily my favorite. Service was solid. They were very friendly with us and took care of us well. Oste's ambiance is definitely more suitable to daytime than nighttime in my opinion. The huge glass walls provide huge light for the interior and makes for a very welcoming environment. Also, there was plentiful outdoor seating as well. Someone in the kitchen needs to take a hard look at the mortadella "pizza" and the Rigatoni Amatriciana because both dishes were an absolute embarrassment. The mortadella pizza was baffling. It felt less like a composed dish and more like slices of mortadella tossed onto bread with pistachios and sent out as-is. No balance, no texture, no cohesion -- just heavy, greasy, and unpleasant. Calling it a pizza honestly feels generous. The Rigatoni Amatriciana was somehow even worse. The pasta was dry and chewy, the sauce bland, flat, and strangely rancid-tasting. Amatriciana should be rich, vibrant, and comforting -- this tasted tired and neglected. I left incredibly disappointed and honestly felt sick afterward. I've supported this place for years because the food used to have care and consistency, but these two dishes should not be leaving the kitchen in their current form. Also please tell your $14 valet that we all use Venmo, adding an extra dollar for Venmo "service fee" is just ridiculous. Truly felt robbed tonight. read more

Stumbled on this place thanks to good ole' TikTok! I decided to make the first visit a special occasion by booking a Friday night Birthday reservation for two. Before calling, keep in mind--they will have you book the reservation online via Resy. I found out because I called first, lol. :) When we arrived our table was ready. We ordered the bread, Burrata Bar (there are a few options and we opted for the San E Daniele-bomb) and the Radicchio Salad to share. We were not impressed by the bread at all. It was really tough, hard to eat and the oil it comes with was pungent and not pleasant ... but since it was $3 it was fine. We were really impressed by the salad because Radicchio tends to be really bitter and yet all the flavor profiles offered worked really well together. As we moved on to the main course, we ordered the oxtail pasta and the steak entree. Though it took a while to get our mains, the pasta was really delicious. However, the steak was so-so. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert--super soft and pleasant but lacked some key flavors and fell short--bland so to speak. As mentioned early on, prior to even booking the reservation, we had already done a great deal of research so we were prepared and moved through each course pretty quickly. We asked for the check before the busser picked up our dessert plate only to have the hostesses (with long curly hair) ask us to wrap up and pay quickly "because a couple had been waiting for a long time," complained to us that she was behind, and "needed the table back." Um, rude! Anyhow, the price point was fair for all the food we ordered, the restaurant is beautiful (packed on the weekends). The food service was good, the food itself was a hit and miss--and of course the remarks at the end of what was supposed to be a special occasion was absolutely unnecessary. I was looking forward to trying this spot with how much good things I've heard but we were all underwhelmed. The pizzas and salad were bland but the pastas were salty. It was explained how the pecorino makes it salty but maybe too much was used then because it was pretty salty. The dessert and drinks were good we liked the tiramisu and panna cotta. We had heard about Oste from word of mouth and made a reservation the day before, and it did not disappoint! On a Saturday night, parking was pretty tough to find so would recommend giving yourself a 15-20 min buffer to find street parking. When we got there, it was so busy and there were lots of walk-ins trying to get a table as well as people waiting for their reservation -- we waited about 25 minutes for our table despite having a reservation. We ordered the pesto burrata, margherita pizza, and prosciutto pizza. We ordered this amount for 3 people and it was the perfect amount of food. We enjoyed each dish, the burrata was my favorite though -- the ingredients tasted so fresh. I would totally come back to try other the burrata dishes and pizzas. Around the Grove, you will never be hard pressed to find somewhere to eat. Nor will you have trouble finding different types of cuisine. At the Grove the other day, I suddenly had the urge for Italian, and saw Oste was nearby, and had wanted to visit for a while, failing regularly, but the stars had aligned and we went over to finally give it a try. We didn't have a reservation, as it was more of a spur of the moment decision, but we were able to get seated at the bar right away, and who is ever sad when you're seated closer to the alcohol? Jokes aside, our bartender was great. We started with drinks, ordering the OSTE Hemingway and.. Drawing a blank on the name of the other cocktail, but it was a tequila based with passionfruit. The passionfruit and tequila drink was very refreshing, not overly powering one way or the other. The passion fruit was more on the sour side, opposed to sweet, but it was a nicely balanced drink. The OSTE Hemingway has a dark and pineapple rum base with grapefruit and luxardo. The rum is much more forward with this drink, but adding the luxardo cherry as a mixing tool gives it a little added sweetness to help balance the drink out. For food, we started with two entrees. The Polpettine, which are homemade meatballs. They were a about two bites each, moist, with a nice Italian tomato sauce. But there are only three meatballs total, and the rest of the dish is filler. I feel four meatballs would have been perfect, personally. We also tried the Claudia mussels with Shallots, bacon, white wine, garlic and parsley. These were delicious! And the broth they are cooked in, I could drink a bowl of that. I believe you can order the mussels with fries, and, if I were to go again, I would absolutely do just that to keep indulging in the broth. On to the entrees. We tried both the tortellini de carne and the cacio e pepe. The tortellini is short rib in tortellini pasta with a parmigiano glaze, pork and sage. It was an interesting dish and I'm still not 100% how I feel about it. It was flavorful, the short rib was cooked well, a little on the dryer side juxtaposing the softness of the past and the sauce on top. It was ok but I don't know if I would say you have to try it. The cacio e pepe is an Italian staple with Tonnarelli, pecorino Romano and black pepper. Pretty tasty overall, definitely gives some Italy vibes when you bite into it. Overall, nice Italian restaurant in the Beverly area. Drinks are tasty with the open bar and food is cooked well. Absolutely get the Claudia mussels, and get dries with them, and soak up every last drop of that broth! Cacio e pepe is a staple and it is done well, but pass on the short rib tortellini and meatballs. read more

High quality tiger prawns were the star amongst a supporting cast of mussels, clams and calamari. The flavor was amazing and the cherry tomatoes that they used for the sauce were punchy! Exactly how things should be. The tiramisu was also excellently done with just the right texture and sweetness for all of the components. My favorite Italian eatery in LA!! I can't believe I hadn't tried this place before because we're so glad we did. Everything we ordered hit the spot and felt like the perfect comfort meal. The pappardelle alla vaccinara was my favorite because the braised oxtail ragu was so tender and flavorful, and the pasta itself was perfectly al dente. One of the best pasta dishes I've had in so long. We also got the truffle fries, which were really addicting, crispy, packed with flavor, and felt like they were bottomless! No idea how this place has the reputation it does. Either people here have never had real Italian food or they're being very kind to someone they know. The waiter told us it was the best cacio e pepe outside of Italy. It is barely the best cacio e pepe around the block. Pasta across the board was mid. Also, the kitchen was closing in 9 minutes, we asked him to come back in two. He did not come back in two. He stood right behind us the whole time until we just caved and ordered whatever he said. None of his recommendations were good. The one thing worth eating was the Quattro Formaggi pizza (which he obviously did not recommend). Only go here for pizza and drinks, or just completely avoid and go to El Carmen next door, their chips and guac will outperform anything on this menu. read more
