The pizza here is spectacular, the prices are reasonable, and their GLUTEN-FREE pies are fabulous as well! They also deliver pizza late at night, which is great for night owls such as myself! The guys who've delivered are very polite, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant itself is WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE, with indoor and outdoor seating. There are always at least 5-6 varieties of pizza slices available at any given time, and they are interesting flavors, not just the same old pepperoni or mushroom. There is a Creole-flavored Alligator pie, Ostrich, too, if you prefer...This is a pizzeria with options! I ordered their GLUTEN-FREE vegetarian pie, and it was immensely popular amongst my friends. I also really love getting their meatball and ricotta pie...mmmm!!! Not a fan. Had the combo and it was 4.75 whereas a combo up the street was 4.20 and the combo included unique combinations!! Also, the crust of this pizza was very think and full of flour. If it had flavor, would have been so much easier to finish up the slice. However, crust was extremely flavorless. A plus is the pizza had plentiful toppings and cheese(which made pizza very oily, so I suggest soaking the pizza with napkins first)! Additionally, I was very disappointed that they didn't toast my pizza slice just like any ordinary pizzeria would have. I mean, the pizza was warm and all but it would have tasted more fresh and crunchy if toasted before given to me. All in all, my first experience here was not all that great. I hope to come back some time and update this review with possibly more compliments! For now, I suggest skip this and head up the street for some Marcello's. read more

I order here for takeout fairly regularly because it's the closest pizza place to home and I can walk there. The pizza is about average for thin crust which is my preference but Escape From New York did it better when they occupied this location. Being a pescaterian I've tried all the vegetarian pizzas as well as the Clams Heaven which is a favorite. Some of them are quite tasty such as the Classic Margherita, Aspendos, Olimpos and Caprese. I'll never order the fruit topped pizzas again (dried black mission figs or canned peaches on a pizza?) although the ricotta topping on the Peach The Diva makes it somewhat appealing. The staff is quite friendly and accommodating, and the one time they dropped the ball by not making the pizza I phoned in for pickup and had to make a from scratch when I got there he gave me a generous discount on the price (it was the only time they ever screwed up my order). My only two complaints and the reason I'm not giving them four stars is #1 the crust isn't thin enough for my liking (it's more like a medium crust pizza), and #2 how in the world can a pizzeria that offers such a plethora of exotic meat toppings including alligator and kangaroo not have anchovies as an optional topping? I know I'm in the minority of pizza eaters on this point but I love anchovies on my pizza! They offer canned clams but no anchovies. And it goes without saying that their "Caesar Salad" comes without anchovies (and no eggs either). Giant slices to go in a wide range of combo toppings is probably the best thing this place has got going for it, but I think it's time for me to walk the extra block and try one of the other couple pizza joints the Castro has to offer. read more

Since this place has been taken over by new management, it's been an interesting change. Some things have been better, some things have been worse. For starters, the new management kept the "U Say Potato" pizza that Escape From New York was so famous for, but it's called potato pesto now, and the staff get touchy when one calls the pizza by its old name. I'm not sure if they're concerned about trademark infringement or something, but using the exact same recipe and calling it something else would seem to violate the same trademarking lines, but perhaps, they're just touchy about it. The new place has distinguished their brand by providing a lot of new and interesting recipes for their pizza, but at the same time, it's kind of difficult to enjoy a simple slice of pepperoni or cheese here because more times than not they're out. This move in distinguishing their brand has most certainly caused many of the traditional pizza lovers to frequent less often. I know it has for me. As for their condiments, it's a bit embarrassing. They have grated peppers and parmesan cheese chained to ever napkin holder. The employee I spoke to cited it as a solution to keep homeless people from stealing their shakers, but this move does certainly give the place a tacky look. As for the quality of the food. It's kind of moved to an ... meh ... state. The cheese and toppings always slide off, which means their watering down their tomato sauce too much, and the crust of the pizza doesn't usually stay together. Ever time I grab a slice, I'm eating chunks of pizza that have broken off of the my slice, which are messy to say the least, and I really only rate their crust as slightly below average, so one can expect a slice of below average pizza that is a mess and does not stay together for at least $5 from this place. read more

I am moving from an Oz Pizza loyalist to a Marcello's Pizza loyalist. To me it is almost as much about the pizza as how you are treated as a regular customer. I went to Oz this morning and told to wait outside while they finished a big delivery order. This was after 11am and I stood there for 25 minutes and still nothing. The restaurant was open and empty and recovering from a large delivery order, but they could have offered me a seat inside and a drink and some thanks for sticking around while they got things together. Just took my daughter to OZ Pizza and she LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I am excited because she's a picky eater, and will not eat most things, including pizza when we go out. She is 19 months old, has no allergies, a diverse pallet, yet likes very little food when we go out to eat. This is the only pizza she will eat aside from Seniore's and Costco pizza believe it or not. When we went to Pizza Orgasmica, Patxi's, Marcello's, and Nizario's my daughter would spit out the pizza almost as fast as you put it in her mouth. She loved the Hawaiian Classic and I loved my Figgy Piggy and also Carnivore's Delight! Also @ Melissa R. who wrote " I like golden showers, but I don't like this pizza. The cheese is always melted perfectly, but I have an issue with crust that tastes so badly, not even ranch dressing can make up for it."
