Found this spot since it was close to a theater I went to with my husband for a show. Everything was excellent - nice ambiance, attentive service, and incredible food. Chicken skewers were delectable, and we devoured them before I could get a picture. I also appreciated the wine options and a complementary orange wine tasting. Padi has been on my radar for a while, as Indonesian food in LA proper has become exceptionally rare--so when it opened, it got my attention. DineLA seemed like a good time to go, since the menu looked good and it would be a good opportunity to sample a lot of different items (especially going with a friend). It's a small but comfortable restaurant on the ground level of an office building, not far from Iki Ramen and Iki Nori, Padi's sister restaurants. Service is exceptionally friendly (and exceptional). We began our DineLA saga with yellowtail sashimi, similar perhaps to what one might find at their Japanese restaurants, but with chilies and a slightly more Indonesian spin. Tasty, but perhaps the least impressive item of the night. Then came a trio of Indonesian appetizers: their take on gado gado salad, a salad of pickled cucumber and charred eggplant. All were very good, but the eggplant was sensational. Next came the skewers: sate tempeh and sate ayam (chicken), both delicious. Finally came the mains (we were sharing everything): grilled blue prawns (with edible heads) and braised short ribs, each served with rice. Flavors felt balanced--not overly spicy but with sufficient "punch" for me. We also had lovely housemade mocktails with lychee and pandan--so refreshing. My one note would be that portions aren't huge, so if you have a hearty appetite, you might need one more item. But all in all, this is an excellent addition to the Hollywood dining scene. It's not necessarily a cheap addition (lunch definitely looks cheaper), but given that it's closer to fine dining--with corresponding ingredients and labor--it's fair. read more

We've been meaning to try Padi for a while, so Dine LA finally gave us the excuse. Our only real reference for Indonesian food is a short trip to Bali (so not exactly experts), but we left already planning a return. Right on Sunset with easy validated parking (first hour free, $5 after), which in LA is always a plus. We did the Dine LA menu and, of course, ended up ordering both options whenever we could... then added the grilled corn and octopus. Service was amazing. I actually called earlier that day to modify our reservation and it was super easy. Our server was so welcoming and genuinely excited to walk us through both the Dine LA and à la carte menus. Every time he dropped a dish, he explained what it was and how everything came together. The whole team was very humble and warm. Nothing felt overly rehearsed or stuffy. Just really good hospitality. Padi is phenomenal and a fantastic first impression of Indonesian food. My favorite item was Octopus Sambal Matah - incredibly cooked octopus with tangy and spicy sambal and a hint of Hawaiian black salt. Please have pandan tiramisu though! I was so sad it ran out and I couldn't try it. Parking *can* be tricky. There's spots on either side of where the building is with 2hour parking spots; some are free and some you need to pay for. However, if you see the giant orange parking sign that's parking-structure-like, you can park there. You park in whichever number you want, go inside and let the parking guard know and you'll pay before you leave. Free parking within the first hour, $5 the second, and $10 the third. The restaurant is small but lovely and calm. It seats about 30-40 people. There is only 1 restroom available FYI. Glad I got to try them out for DineLA. Staff was very kind, welcoming, and patient. I definitely plan to come back and/or visit their other restaurants (Iki Ramen and another that starts with H... Japanese food!). read more

My boyfriend has been raving about Padi and their beef short ribs for months, so when he finally took me, I had high expectations and they absolutely delivered. As someone trying Indonesian food for the first time, I was blown away by the flavors. The menu offers familiar dishes with an Indonesian twist, and everything was beautifully plated. My favorites were the chicken satay and the beef short ribs, but the jumbo shrimp and grilled fish collar were also incredible. Visiting with my Indo friends and coming early noon, right before the venue got busy. They seemed to have limited people serving, but pretty quick serving time. Perfect texture for the eggplant and the seasoning was just so rich, literally felt like melt in your mouth. As for the main dish, the shortribs were pretty good, with very tender beef and good balance better lean meat and fats. Would prefer the chili sauce to go spicier though. The Yellowtail Collar was another flavorful one and certainly made me miss having grilled fish back at home with that unique sweet savory sauce. More iconic Indonesian brunch dishes would actually be the Bubur Ayam (chicken porridge) and Bakmi Ayam (chicken noodles). They were both decent, but the seasoning and flavor probably weren't as bold as those back home. For drinks, would recommend The Pandan, if you're down to try signature Indo flavor as they used Pandan milk. The coffee indeed wasn't that strong, but the pandan's more of the highlight. One of my favorite meals I've had in awhile. Really cute atmosphere and they're also a coffee shop. The server was so nice and very attentive. *Hamachi/Yellowtail collar - this was cooked to absolute perfection. The skin was so crispy and the fish was so tender and moist. The sweet garlicky soy glaze was addicting and paired perfectly with the sambal that it came with. *Sate Ayam - the chicken is dipped in a delicious marinade, grilled so there were some crispy edges and topped with this incredible peanut sauce. My picky 2.5 year old gobbled this down - we had to order 2. *Gado gado - such a refreshing salad with a variety of textures and an incredible peanuty flavors from the dressing - love the crispy shallots on top *Octopus - tender/soft, just the way it should be cooked, dipped in black salt and it came with our favorite sambal of the night. Our toddler was a bit of a monster, but they were so kind to him. At the end the owner (I think) brought out some cookies for him that he wouldn't share and inhaled. FOOD Octopus Sambal Matah Dinner (4/5): Starting off with grilled octopus as starter, this is part of their dinner small plates menu so portion is on the smaller side. Love the Balinese sambal, it also comes with lemon and salt pepper to pair with as needed. Love the citrus touch on it, delicious, pretty standard octopus starter. Beef Short Ribs Dinner (4.7/5): Pretty delicious! Wish there are more cucumber or greens on the side to pair with. The beef is very tender and flavourful, love the west sumatran green chili sambal with it. It's cooked very tender and soft, nothing struggle to eat, meats come off easily. Nice. Oxtail Soup Dinner (4.5/5): Jakarta-style slow braised wagyu oxtail broth with warm spices and herbs. It's my 1st time trying Indonesian style oxtail soup, it's very rich and aromatic. The beef is very tender, it comes with big chunks of bone. I'd say it's slightly harder to eat, comparing to the beef short ribs dish. The taste is like if Korean Galbi Tang, Viet Pho, and Taiwanese beef noodle soup had a baby- this is it. A heartwarming soup to have for dinner. Grilled Yellowtail Collar Dinner (4.8): Nicely grilled fish! I love the sweet soy glaze on top of it, it elevated everything. I only had Cantonese sweet soy before, the soy in here is thicker- more of a caramel sauce texture. Delicious. One of my fav dish here for sure. We also got jasmine rice with the food, it makes everything better. Keep in mind rice here is separate order, it doesn't come with the dishes. AMBIENCE & SERVICE Cozy, warm wood eatery. Our server is very friendly and gives the right recommendation. He's attentive when we needed takeout boxes and water. It's a laidback spot for a casual weekday dinner or chill date night. Nothing fancy or too serious. There's no loud music, so you can hold conversations for a group dinner or with a date. OVERALL Everything we had is delicious and comforting. The dishes in here are on the smaller side, so it's kinda like a tapas style setting. Which is good if you're new to the cuisine, you can order a bunch of different things to try out in a group dinner. padi was a finely executed restaurant of Indonesian flavors for an American palate, being that it isn't as spicy as many other traditional Indonesian restaurants. overall it was amazing tasting food. the mocktail was unique and the eggplant was a must try. It was on the pricey side but about what I expected for a dining experience in Hollywood. between 6 people we paid $250 and their dishes are meant to share as indicated on the menu! the staff were friendly and efficient and were able to answer all of our questions. the restaurant itself can seat about 20 people comfortably and there's is a restroom available. The Indonesian food here was pretty mid (okay). It wasn't terrible, but it was giving gentrified Indonesian food. My friend from Indonesia I came with also agreed as well. We both shared the following dishes: - Hamachi Dabu-Dabu: The best of the dishes we had. I liked the tangy and spicy flavor of the fresh fish. The fish was pretty stringy though. - Sate Tempeh: Th texture was good, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor. - Beef Ribs: I liked how the meat was tender, but wasn't the biggest fan of all the fat. The flavor also could've been better. The dinner was tapas style so the portions were on the smaller side. However, the price paid for them was not worth it in my opinion besides the hamachi. The interior was nice with the mood lighting. There was a decent amount of tables and chairs, but I would recommend making a reservation in advance. Finally was able to make it here, went in right when they opened, and had the Bakmi Ayam, this is the chicken, noodles, broth. It was really delicious, great flavors. And the noodles were cooked to perfection. Wish it came in a larger bowl because it was kind of hard to eat from the small bowl. Padi serves Indonesian comfort food in a crispy and fresh enviroment. Lovely chairs and dishwater with floor to ceiling glass windows which provide an indoor-outdoor type of experience. Nice air conditioning and lovely staff. The food is elaborate with many ingredients. The price point a bit high for the portion, but worth if you stay a while with coffee and dessert. Bakmie Ayam (18) - delicious and standard noodle dish for one. Lovely flavor and a broth on the side if you like to moisten the meal. Bubur Ayam (16) - indonesias version of congee / jook. The rice porriage had an interesting consistency that felt fuller and less watery. Unique in a sense. The flavor is quite lovely. Kopi Tubruk (5) - unfiltered coffee. Strong. Let it settled before sipping but reserved for bitter lovers The Pandan (8.25). + 1 for oat milk effectively making it close to $10! At this price point, alternative milk should have been included. It was a subtle pandan flavor. Forgettable for me especially for the price. Charred Eggplant (13) - the servers favorite. We enjoyed this. Firm texture and spicy, but not painful. Would get again! Pandan Tiramisu (12) - lovely airy dessert. Great to share, but like the drink, the pandan flavor was too subtle for me. Looking for street parking was a pain or pay $20 right behind the store for public parking. Came on a Saturday night. Service was great. Restaurant was decorated super nice and small maybe around 6-7 tables of 4. Food I felt like was overpriced food for the bucks. I liked the green chilli that comes with the beef ribs but it felt like the beef ribs were not marinated enough that theres no flavor on the inside. Chicken sate and wagyu sate was delicious but only two skewer per order. We came here seeing the bubur ayam and bakmi ayam but that was only for lunch (I saw too many lunch pictures on google and on Yelp). Food does not come with rice. So if you order beef ribs ($32) you have to order rice ($3.50). All asians eat rice. So you're eating at around $35 per person unless you go cheap like us and have chicken sate ($8) or wagyu rendang sate ($18). read more

Came on a Saturday morning right at opening and we found street parking easily! There may also be a lot right behind the building. The restaurant is right next to Iki Nori and felt very spacious and modern. They have just one menu now and we got the Bakmi Ayam, Sate Ayam, Sate Wagyu with Rendang sauce, Gado Gado, side of rice and some Sambal! Also got the Pandan coffee which was strong! Favorite bites were the Gado Gado and Sambal. Other dishes were very good too, but I'd skip the wagyu rendang if you're looking for a more familiar renang dish. While the wagyu itself was good, it didn't soak up the sauce like in the classic rendang dishes. Went to Padi for lunch. Street parking was pretty easy to find. We got there right before a lunch rush. We were greeted and seated right away. My partner and I both ordered the different lunch specials, the satay chicken, and the pandan espresso iced drink. The servers were so attentive and also informative. He struck the balance between giving us recommendations on how to eat each dish that felt informative without being fussy. Each dish was beautifully presented and every element necessary and tasty. We came for dinner and tried the short ribs, yellowtail collar, eggplant, and chicken skewers. All were pretty tasty. The fish collar was nicely fried, very crispy and meaty. The eggplant portion felt pretty small, essentially one cut up Chinese eggplant, but it was good. The ribs were tender but felt a little lacking in beef flavor. I did like the sambal on top though. The only greens on the menu other than pickled cucumber was brussels sprouts, which seems very random and not Indonesian at all. Overall a good meal though I think I was expecting more given the owners' backgrounds and higher price point. I'd definitely try the brunch menu next time I'm in the area. read more

Dropped by the recently opened Padi restaurant on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood for an early dinner, as it was on my list to try this Indonesian place, and it did not disappoint: the scallop crudo and chicken satay were both tasty - the raw scallops were pristine + lovely plating. While the gado gado (which translates to "mix mix") was nicely composed, the dish was over-dressed imho, so the salad became a bit mushy to my taste - still, the space is clean, service was pleasant & attentive = overall it was a solid experience - and I'm eager to return to try their congee dish (which is only offered during daytime hours). Padi is easily one of the most memorable Indonesian meals we've had in LA. The food feels home-cooked in the best way, like everything was made with intention instead of just being pumped out for volume. We ordered a spread for the table and every container we opened got that instant "wow this smells good" reaction. Let me first start off by saying.. I rarely leave reviews. When I heard about this new Indonesian spot called Padi and saw the pictures of their Bakmi Ayam, I knew I had to come. Being the 2nd person to arrive at the store shortly after 9 AM (I know - I'm crazy coming in 9 AM on a monday), I was greeted by the team & Brody, one of the founders. The restaurant is exceptionally clean being able to see the staff in the kitchen & also working on drinks. You can tell they are very spot on about maintaining the restaurant. After placing my order for Bakmi Ayam and an order of the chicken satay, Brody suggested I try a matcha strawberry latte as well. They made it half sweet with oat milk for me and it was just perfect. When the noodles arrived, I almost cried. I had been wanting to try this ever since they opened. Before I even remembered to take a picture.. I mixed it up and took a bite. It reminded me from home (and I'm not even from Indonesia). The soup broth that comes with the noodles reminds me exactly of "gong wan tang" from Taiwan, one of my favorite soups ever. I kept telling Brody how good it was (no cap). He probably thought I was just being polite, but at this moment, Padi became my favorite brunch spot in LA and one of my favorite spots - period. The chicken satay is juicy and marinated/seasoned just right. The peanut sauce was perfect with just the right texture. I literally felt like I was transported to South East Asia.
