I'm usually very easy to please, but today's lunch at Pancakes & Waffles was disappointing. We ordered the blueberry waffle and country gravy steak. First off, the service was great. The girl at the counter was patient and helpful. She even brought our food to the table. It wasn't crowded or noisy. The dining area was roomy and clean. Sadly, the food was disappointing. The waffle had no flavor. The steak was chewy and covered with an odd seasoning and bland gravy. I knew country fried steak is hard to find on the island. I took a shot. Never again. I kniw why it has been so long since I was here last. read more

Last day of vacation, bummed because we were on our way to the airport but had a craving for macadamia nut pancakes. So lucky to find this place and it was on our way! No problem finding parking, only one person in front of us, and we went with mac nut waffle combo instead, so good! Our whole breakfast was perfect BUT we asked for a side of bacon, thinking maybe it would be $3-4. It was $7.95 for 5 strips! Still loved our breakfast but wow, way to take advantage of your customers. read more

Located in a strip mall of small food places but located off the main row and behind what looks like industrial warehouse. Order at front counter, friendly service, quick order, pick your own table and food is brought out to you. No cash accepted. Restroom is located across the parking. Honey butter fried chicken w cornbread waffle was delicious. The cornbread waffle pairs well with the honey butter. Chicken (bone in) was crispy and well cooked. Mac nut pancakes comes as a 3 stack. A bit underwhelming. Kalbi loco moco: meat was flavorful and tender! My friend loved hers. read more

This place has been fueling me since Covid and can't complain a thing about it at all. While the hours at this one specifically has gone really down from my last late night escapade the food and service has stayed the same. I got a caramel apple short stack with a mini bento thinking the pancakes (I never had before) was gonna be small yep nope portions carry over from its other fare. Everything was massive per usual and these will make my rotation easily for punching above their weight. The speed of them also behind the counter isn't changing soon and they're super fast to get everything out. Hopefully they bring the late hours back so I can come anytime but this place has my love and then some! This is the only diner like place I'd easily go to and is my #1 and will be yours too! read more

I asked for a bit of milk for my coffee. She said she had to ask manager. Manager said it would be $5.71 for milk having paid already $4.25 for basic coffee. I also asked for banana with waffles. There was no banana. First and last time coming here. The manager had a miserable aura and no one asked me how my meal was. Zero interaction. read more

Family insisted we try but what did I expect from someone who can't cook... I like the ease of ordering, got to peruse menu online without being rushed. But food quality was meh. Mom ordered jook and could not finish because it was too salty. My hollandaise sauce was separating. Atleast the pancakes were good, I expected it to be overly sweet but it wasnt. read more

Perfect spot for your breakfast, lunch, or brunch desires! Unfortunately this location closes earlier compared to the Pearl City location. They offer so many options you won't be able to decide. It's perfect for going in a group since some prefer a sweet breakfast whereas others prefer a savory breakfast. I got the blueberry pancakes and it came in a stack of 5! It was too much to finish in one sitting so it'll be tomorrow's breakfast as well. The hamburger steak was delicious as well! This location is clean and the staff is friendly as well! read more

I've been on a waffle kick lately, so I searched on Yelp for breakfast spots for our day trip to Oahu. ATMOSPHERE: Located in a strip mall, light poured in from the oversized windows that look onto the parking lot. Seating was spacious and the inside clean & tidy but a bit chilly. Zero wait time which was surprising for a Saturday morning. PARKING: Free and plentiful. MENU: Pancakes, crepes, waffles, French toast, omelettes, benedicts & loco mocos. FOOD: Waffle Combo - $12.45 (menu stated $11.45) The combo also included two eggs and choice of meat in which I chose Portuguese sausage. The waffle was sizable, served hot off the iron with a crisp exterior, warm interior and that signature creamy batter aroma & taste. Sausages (2 thick slices) were flavorful with a slight sear. Eggs were perfectly over easy. SERVICE: Order and pay at the counter, take a numerical sign to place on your table for delivery. Female expeditor was friendly and professional. Food delivery was lightning quick. OVERALL: No-frills spot with good food, affordable prices and less crowds. read more

This restaurant has become one of my go-to breakfast joints in Kalihi and Aiea. I've been to both locations over the years. My least favorite time to come is the peak morning/lunch times on weekends. Nonetheless, service is great each time! Prices are reasonable and quality is good which is why we always return. :) read more

My Foodie Buddy and I were craving breakfast foods at lunchtime, and the first place that came to mind was the Pancakes and Waffles in City Square. They now have a completely CASHLESS system, so no cash payments accepted. Also only open 10am-2pm daily, NO DINNER. As usual, at the counter we took some time looking over their yummy regular menu as well as the always onolicious daily specials. My buddy wanted to order the chicken and waffle, but that would guarantee a kanak attack afterwards and today he had a busy afternoon ahead. So he ordered his second favorite, the Korean Chicken plate, which comes with rice and P&W's really good potato salad. I had the vinha d'alhos omelet (with extra cooked onions inside) and home fries. SO GOOD! And I took home leftovers too! The hardworking staff at P&W is always super friendly, professional, and energetic. The place is clean and welcoming. There are lots of other popular eating places in this strip mall so parking can be tight at lunchtime, but it's worth the trouble, trust me. read more

First time at this location, new experience ordering from their QR code that you scan at the table. Food came quick on a Fri morning, lady that brought out the food was nice and hospitable. I like the online ordering, especially since Covid seems to be going around recently and the safety of not giving your credit card to someone to take away and charge it elsewhere. read more

The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. It was early so it was pretty empty. I ordered the blueberry crêpes and added sour cream to it, but probably should've added whipped cream instead. The crêpe batter did not taste like crêpe batter. It tasted like very skinny pancakes and they were soaked in oil. I should've stuck with my first instinct and just gotten eggs and breakfast meat. read more

What an outstanding clean, well laid out, open ambiance breakfast place. The menu is extensive with specials. This months special is Green Eggs and Spam! A take on Dr. Suess. I did not order it but it did look great. The eggs were laced with spinach for the green! 5/5 Since this is a waffle house that is what I ordered.... A modification to the Loco Moco but replaced the rice with a waffle! It was great and easy to eat, tasty and way ok way way too filling.... The burger patty was excellent and the gravy also very good. And they now how to cook sunny side up easy eggs! Perfect, A defnitie 5/5 The service was very expedient and the staff very Aloha friendly. Parking was easy at 750am. I definetly will return. Of couse its next to the Kamehameha bakery and UBAE.. BLD in Kalihi is just an awesome place to have breakfast and they are great for big families and big groups. Really nice comfortable establish with a family vibe. I didn't have the special today, Green Eggs and Spam but I wanted to because it looked pretty good. I was in the mood for the traditional Loco Moco and that is what I ordered and I was not disappointed. When I entered, the line was long but it goes very fast. The food also came really quick. You can also use the QR code and order at the table, which I found out after I sat down. I guess everyone is using the QR ordering now which is very easy and convenient. The service was a winner! I can't count how many times the waitress checked on us and to see if we needed anything and I really appreciated that. Super professional and very kind and people work here, 10/10 for the service with Aloha. I will be back again because I saw lots of people ordering the waffles and chicken and they looked really good. Saw lots of different pancake orders as well and they looked huge and delicious. Came here for breakfast with fam bam and met some fellow Yelpers here. I ordered the blueberry crepes with whipped cream. The crepes reminded me of what I grew up with as Linalina (or Hawaiian pancakes). I really liked that it was fully stuffed with blueberries. Eating it with the whipped cream was like having a dessert for breakfast. One thing I did appreciate was the contactless ordering. On each table, there was a QR code so you can place your order, pay, and your items are delivered to the specified table. This is a nice place to eat breakfast with a big group of people since they have lots of room. read more

Updating review to add pics from our second visit. Food is still delicious and comes to the table quick. Love that they have an order at the counter option or you can order on your phone with a QR code. Restaurant is nice and clean, a little cold but better than being hot, right? Bathroom is a little inconvenient, you have to walk outside with a key across the street. I loved my Kalbi loco moco it was delicious but I still like their chicken and waffles better. Good place to come for some fast breakfast food at a good price too. read more

My fellow Yelpers' did not let me down. I was looking for something local and I opened the Yelp app. This was at the top of the lost so i came over. I had the french toast with sweet Hawaiian bread and it was really good. The syrup was not over indulging and it was a nice combination between the Hawaiian bread and the syrup. It brings this app called Beluga up and first timers you get $10 off. What a deal!!! I ordered honey butter fried chicken and corn bread waffles and the corn bread waffles were amazing. The fried chicken was good and crispy. People in my party ordered vienna sausage and eggs with chocolate pancakes - he said it was good and also fried rice sausage and eggs - that was good as well. The sourdough bowl was delicious and very satisfying. Brown gravy and waffles top of the chart the chicken was crispy and moist and it goes so well with the gravy. We originally went to the Original Pancake House but the line was out the door. I suggested that we go to Pancakes and Waffles. First time going there. We stood in line waiting for our turn to order at the counter. My husband ordered the originsl waffles with 2 eggs and sausage. I orderef the country breakfast which had 2 grilled biscuits with white gravy, 2 eggs, and 2 bangers. Our experience was pretty good until my husband realized that he didn't get his coffee. Turned out the person taking the orders either forgot to add it on or she didn't hear him when he ordered. Not a bad experience, it happens, so no biggie. What turned us off was when my husband saw a cockroach crawling on one of the benches in the back of the dining area. That's a BIG no no for us. read more

Stopped here randomly because we were starving and in the area, and looking for a different restaurant, but found this place first. It was amazing! Small town diner ambiance. Huge serving sizes. We had chicken and waffles and French toast. Everything was fantastic. Best chicken I've had anywhere in decades. Everything was cooked perfectly. Our server brought out food super fast. Located in Kalihi at Dillingham shopping center with a lot of other business like Kamehameha Bakery, Young's Market & Hawaiian food and Sugoi's and many other restaurants and business. They expanded the seating area from when they open, so it is not as crowded as before, as you enter you place your order and let the counter person if you will be eating in or taking out. If seating inside they will bring your meals to the table. My wife had the waffles and choice of meat and egg breakfast. She enjoyed the breakfast, but the waffles could have been more crispy. I had the fried rice with choice of meat and egg which was very tasty and delicious! They do have a lot lot of different types of plate lunches also to choose from. read more

When I discovered that this place is just as good for dinner and lunch as breakfast, I started racking up great food and customer service experiences. It does help that whenever I go for dinner, it is not nearly as crowded as breakfast usually is, so there is little wait. My go to plate lunch is now the Korean chicken with potato salad and fried rice. It's the perfect combination of flavors and textures. Another favorite is the roast pork plate which comes with a ton of gravy, so it is salty. But if that's what you're looking for, you will not be disappointed. Service is always friendly. Even the folks back in the kitchen greet you if you give them a wave! Parking is hardly ever a problem. And I would say it's never a problem at dinner because most of the other businesses at the shopping center aren't open as late as they are. read more

I chose bacon and home fries. They offered the bacon to be cooked either crispy or well done. The eggs and home fries were decent, but a little salty. I'm not a huge breakfast person, as I tend to sleep in on the weekends, so this simple yet filling meal was good! 1.30.22 - some places need extra care or else you miss everything good... 7am I headed over to my meeting with a few Yelp elite and it was well worth it. A few of them I made friends with before heading over to this place. It was all in good timing. I tagged my friend along with me and started on to Kalihi off Dillingham is Kalani st. Where it was a GEMS supermarket store back in the day and Kam Bakery and Young's is located next door to them.. "PANCAKES AND WAFFLES" ((what's the BLD stand for? )) but really everything looks amazing. Firstly, just a culinary note it nice that everything looks delicious it even had the right texture in each bite and my friend mentioned that his Florentine (and also my waffle Benedict) had the perfect ratio of fried potatoes on the plate it's not overly baring like Koa House with Too much potatoes. What's also important is how the Hollandaise sauce wasn't runny or too thick either it blended well with my poached egg that had the yolk still warm.. the mini waffle in my plate is a great idea and if I could.... I might order it again... appreciate the tantalizing look of the whole platter and I love that... BUT--- ...what was brought to my attention from my friend was the temperature of the food. It was cold by the middle Of two bites of my Plate. Culinary rule- "so important to make sure that plating the food stays hot throughout Or else the guest might return it" I found that the slice of tomato was cold on my plate as well as my friend's Florentine... not bad it's just maybe for his plate it should have been hot like the eggs going on it. Overall it was a really good and satisfying meal. It compares well with a restaurant like Nicos. Just not the same atmosphere and you're probably going to wanna take it home to eat. Lots of parking in the very early morning as every place else is closed. They are open 24 hours. A rarity after covid came and went. So if you're looking for someplace open late night or early morning serving a good furikake ahi this is your place. Give them a try. It's worth the price at under $20. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

Well, the Monkeypod Kitchen Mai Tai is that "song" for me. No matter how many months pass between trips to Hawaii, it's the one thing I'm always craving. First stop after our five plus hour flight is to always sit at the bar and hum my way through a Mai Tai. We've tried competitors' Mai Tais, but Monkeypod has THE BEST Mai Tai on the island (possibly the country)! It contains a double shot of rum, so pace yourself if you're a lightweight. What makes this extraordinary is the lilikoi (passion fruit) foam on the top. It's the reason I am "passion"ately in love with this cocktail. We've eaten at a table in their main dining room, however, we really enjoy bar seating during Happy Hour, which is from 3:30pm-5:00pm, daily (except select holidays) and again from 9:00pm-11:00pm. It is first come first serve at the bar. If you prefer table seating, be sure to make a reservation. The wait can be long without one. Their Happy Hour items include all of their appetizers at half price, excluding any seafood. Cocktails are $4 off, beers $2 off, wine by the glass $3 off and the pizzas (excluding the Bourgeois) are $17. All of the items we've tried are super delicious and the bartenders are all very friendly and professional. They also provide live music daily, at 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 7:30pm. I called it in about 15 minutes before I got there. When I walked in i saw my order sitting on the counter already. There was one person in line which the cashier helped. I was on my way into work so i was kimd of in a rush,When it was my turn the cashier turned her back to me and started packing up other food orders then went ahead and delivered food to two different tables. She finally came back to the counter and I told her I had called in my order. By this time there was a women in line behind me. The cashier rang me up and I paid her, she gave me my change and then just looked at the lady in back of me, kind of like a que for me to move! As my order is still sitting on the counter. So I moved out of the line and she helped the women behind me. After the lady paid the cashier turns her back again and is looking thru her orders. My order is still sitting on the counter. Then she starts asking the cooks about my order. They start looking thru there receipts l. Finally the cook had to come out of the back and he sees it sitting there and he tells her "it's right there"! She tells him sorry grabs the bag and just hands it to me like nothing, no sorry, no thanks for waiting nothing! So I walk out thinking ok maybe she just started but I was still a bit irritated. It gets worst, I drive over to work open the bag to eat and there is no napkins and no utensils in sight! Ugh that really got me! It's sad cause I really loved eating here and at all my other visits there the staff is WONDERFUL! Its so sad how one bad worker can ruin a restaurant! We went with a pretty big group because we had some friends in town for a wedding. I suggested we go somewhere else because it was a weekend and they don't do reservations because they're a take out restaurant. I heard it gets busy on the weekends so I knew it was going to be a mess. But lo and behold, it was the best big group eating experience I had! It was busy as I had expected but the tables opened up pretty quickly. And because its not a dine in type restaurant, it was comfortable to just walk over to the other end of the table and eat, I mean "try" my friend's food. And I could just walk up and get free refills. So comfortable and kind of like being at a friend's house. The food was great and everyone was full and happy. Sometimes its hard to decide where to take people who are visiting because there are more things to consider like, is the restaurant large group friendly, kid friendly, easy to find parking, is there a range of food so everyone can find something to eat, is it somewhere they won't be able to find back home? This is one more to my list of places to take the visitors to (and it won't make you broke). read more

We stopped by on a weekend and were pleasantly surprised by how easy and convenient the ordering process was--you can either order at the counter or scan the QR code at your table. A friend wanted eat lunch and said to meet him and another friend at Pancake and Waffles at the City Square Center in Kalihi. He told me they're known for their fried chicken. Boy, was he correct! My first time there and I ordered the fried chicken plate. Three bumbucha pieces! I finished it and ordered 5 pieces for take home. I don't know what's in the recipe but I thought if I reheat in the microwave, it'll be tough and dry but what the heck. I was pleasantly surprised that even after zapping it in the microwave for 2 minutes, it was still juicy, tender and all soooo good! Now I know where to get my fried chicken. Always great service, always with a smile. Their local dishes are the bomb! Short Rib Beef Stew, Kalbi Loco Moco, Honey Butter Chicken & Corn Bread Waffles ... the list goes on and on. They do have the standard breakfast menu - bacon & eggs, waffles, French toast, pancakes, eggs Benedict. The location itself doesn't have a lot of seating space, so it seems best set up for takeout, but it is a pleasantly bright space and the outdoor seating seems like it would be nice as they're not on a main throughfare. It's far from where my family lives on the island that we stay with when we're visiting, but next time we're near Ala Moana around lunchtime, we'll definitely stop by for some vegan goodies!
