Good for a quick lunch. Enjoyed the pairings. Nothing memorable but hits the spot for a quick lunch or dinner.

Because of that, I've recently found myself searching for family-friendly restaurants with large outdoor areas. That way, if my little one gets fussy, I can walk around with him, and we're not stuck inside worrying about disturbing other diners. Freiheit Country Store was perfect for our needs. The outdoor area is large and spacious, and the overall atmosphere is very family-friendly. It has a relaxed vibe that feels just right for families with young children. One small observation: I do wish some parents paid a little more attention to their kids. It had recently rained, and a boy was throwing rocks into a puddle, causing water and mud to splash onto my husband's back. We politely asked him to stop, but he continued, and we couldn't spot a parent nearby. As for the food, it was served quickly, arrived hot, and tasted great. No complaints there. My husband also appreciated the simple and efficient ordering process. Overall, this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat, enjoy a cold beer, and relax in a family-friendly environment. We'll definitely be back

There's a sandwich of the day which starts off at seven dollars for a regular size sandwich. Today, Tuesday, December 2 the sandwich of the day was the Gyro witch. I'm glad it was because I definitely wanted to try this kind of sandwich and it actually did not disappoint. The meat they use is Gyro style meat made of beef and lamb, not the best I've had but good enough to satisfy my hunger. The toppings really made the sandwich, the sandwich comes with tzatziki sauce and cucumber, but I added a spinach, red onion, hummus, and banana peppers to mine. I had mine with the wheat bread, which was also pretty good. As far as affordability, definitely a good spot to check out. I wouldn't necessarily consider the taste of the sandwich superior though. The girl at the checkout was really friendly. I was a little concerned about the cleanliness behind the counter and the weird smell when I walked in, but other than that, the space was not terrible.

A Cuban only has meat and pickles. You can't skimp on meat if that's the main ingredient! There was literally bread showing thru the "layer" of grey pulled pork meat. I paid $15.50 I paid $3 more for extra bacon on the BLT. What I got was extra large pieces of undercooked fat. There was one piece so large, I thought it was a potato chunk!! I wish it had been a potato instead of a large, floppy piece of pork fat. I paid $17 for extra large flabby pork fat. Can you tell how much I adore pork fat by how many times I am emphasizing PORK FAT??? For the record, I would like to present to you: Photo Exhibits A thru WTF!!? The plan was for the "kids" to go to the movies while she and I stayed at the house and babysat our adorable little 5 month old grandson. None of us wanted to be bothered with going out for dinner, and my wife doesn't like to do that on "special" days anyway because of the crowds. She decided I would go over to Jimmy John's and pick up. I went on the website and tried to have our order delivered since delivery was free that day with a special code. Even though my son's house is within two miles of the store, they don't deliver there. I called instead, but after being on the phone for about 15 minutes placing a huge order, the staff at the store couldn't set it up for delivery either. No biggie. I was just being lazy anyway. I told them I would pick up our order at 2:45. Like the old fart that I am, I arrived about ten minutes early. I told them what I was there to pick up, and one of the workers told me they were working on my order, and I should grab my cookies, chips, and drinks while I waited. She gave me a huge shopping bag and a drink holder to put them in. While I was finishing up with the drinks, the same young lady called me over and handed me another huge bag with our sandwiches at exactly 2:45! When I got back to the house, we all figured out whose sandwich was whose and sat down to eat. I was amazed that all 5 of the sandwiches were exactly what we ordered. I mean my clan has some picky folks. All but 1 of the subs was full of "hold the ????" and "add some ???". As we ate, we all talked about how good the sandwiches were. My son and daughter in law said that Jimmy Johns was their go to sandwich shop. I totally understand. I had the spicy east coast Italian. It was so loaded with meats that I could have taken half off and made another sandwich. Plus, they put some kind of mayonnaise or aioli on it that was dazzling! All of us had the barbecue flavor chips but my wife. who opted for regular. As far as I am concerned, that was her loss. These were the best kettle chips I have ever had. And, believe me, this fat man has eaten a lot of kettle chips! The oatmeal raisin cookies were also really good. I did not expect that. In my opinion most prefab individually wrapped baked goods are usually only so-so. Now, I have to figure out where my local Jimmy John's is here in San Antonio and hope it is just as good. I don't want sandwiches all the time, but when the time comes, I want a good one like the one I ate in New Braunfels.

It's true! I buzzed through the neighborhood next door, turned around, and promised not to pass it again. The inside was apparently just redone. The two kids working were super kind and patient with my multiple orders as I became increasingly smitten with this place. I started with carrot cake and a Grapefruit Rambler sparkling water. The perfect snack. Sweet and just the right amount of frosting. I went back to order a turkey and havarti wrap with a side of pasta salad. It was plenty big and very fresh. A perfect healthy dinner for my flight home. I also got a thumbprint cookie which tasted like vegan short bread. Minesh, the new owner, came out to talk with me and he was so honest and welcoming about his efforts to make this cafe a success. I gathered it was his kids who were working. Truly a lovely place. I can't recommend it enough and hope I get the chance to go back some day if I ever find myself in Gruene again.

No gross pieces of chicken, not too heavy on the dressing and great flavor. I chose the fruit side and it was a few strawberries and grapes. My husband got the Fruity Fran BLT and he loved it. Moist chicken with apples, grapes and pecans, crispy bacon and lettuce and tomato. He said it was delicious. He chose the grape salad and I was so jealous. It sounded weird but it is just amazing. I did order a side of pimento cheese and that was not so impressive. It wasn't bad by any means, just not to my liking. We will definetly be ordering again but I will add lettuce and tomato to mine. I really liked the jalapeño flavor! The only thing I would strongly request is please have a gluten free bread option!! I saw another reviewer mention this so I know it's in demand - think of the people who don't write reviews. If you're concerned it won't sell, you can keep it frozen and offer it as a toasted or grilled sandwich option. I'll take the request a step further with this: I read your story while standing in line. I appreciate that the business started from the notion that everyone has a different idea of their perfect chicken salad... for those of us with gluten allergies/intolerances, sometimes that perfect chicken salad comes in the form of a sandwich so for me, you're just one star away from that perfection! PS I will be a frequent customer for sure with my several medical appointments coming up over the next year and will be anxiously awaiting the day I can order a sandwich!

Last night I finally brought my husband to try it after hyping it up for so long, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Things have definitely changed. I was really looking forward to the chicken fried chicken, only to find out they were completely out of mashed potatoes. For a place known for chicken, that was surprising. So I ended up just sharing some of my husband's meal and our appetizer. The cornbread has always been something I rave about, especially with their hot honey. This time it came out dry, and the hot honey had no heat at all. It just was not the same. My husband's fried chicken was honestly the worst part. It was burnt, with a layer of black under the breading, and tasted like it had been overcooked to the point of being charred. There is no way the kitchen did not see how dark it was before serving it. That said, his sides were still great, so at least part of the meal was enjoyable. Our friend's chicken sandwich was not terrible, but it did not taste fresh like it used to. It felt more like something frozen and heavily breaded instead of the quality we had experienced before. One positive was the service. Our server was wonderful, and the rest of the staff was kind and attentive as well. I accidentally spilled my drink right after it arrived, and they were quick and gracious to replace it even though it was completely my fault. That was very much appreciated. The other issue that really took away from the experience was the atmosphere. Halfway through our meal, a large group of adults sat in the courtyard and had their children sit separately at a table right next to us, while their parents remained in another section of the patio. The kids were clearly having fun and playing games, which is great, but they were also very loud and screaming just a foot away from our table while their parents enjoyed quiet drinks elsewhere. There were completely open sections of the patio farther away where they could have sat, so it was frustrating that they were placed right next to the only other table of adults trying to enjoy a night out. It ended up being very disruptive and took away from what we had hoped would be a relaxing evening. Overall, I was really disappointed. This used to be a place I highly recommended, but after this visit it feels like the quality and attention to detail have slipped. I truly hope they can get back to what made them so great before.
