It started off rough, and honestly didn't end any better, lol. This place has three entrances, two from the back, and one in the front. We came from a back entrance and once we got to the front, it took a really long time for anyone to even acknowledge us, lol. Luckily we only had to wait about ~10 minutes or so to get a table. Thai tea: It was fine. A little heavy on the creamer compared to some other Thai places. Pretty decent, but I've definitely had better. Pad thai with chicken: Pretty standard for pad thai. Good amount of sweetness. I will say they are quite generous with their portion size and they also gave a large amount of chicken. Filet mignon panang curry: I'm not sure if we came on an off day, but this entree hardly looked Thai, let alone looked like curry?? I've had so many panang curries in my life and this was the strangest looking one by far. The "curry" was an unappetizing brown color, but worst of all, it was so RUNNY and WATERY (our server even spilled it on the table and floor when he was taking the plate away at the end of our meal, lol!) Looks aside, the flavor was lacking in spice as well as coconut flavor. The beef wasn't chewy at least, but the artichoke and spinach that is part of the dish was a...choice. Not sure if they are trying to be unique, but I'd rather them focus on making curry correctly in the first place before trying to add anything extra to this dish. Also for $30 (!!!) this entree doesn't even come with rice LMAO. It is the most expensive, but also the least satisfying, panang curry I've had thus far at any Thai restaurant. Mango sticky rice: Pretty standard and at least their mangos were decently sweet. I've been unlucky and have gotten sour mangoes sometimes, lol. Service after getting seated was fine, although a little slow in my opinion. Our server was nice enough and pretty friendly. Our food came out in a reasonable time. It was a little hard to flag down our server when we needed him and at the end we ended up going to the register because we didn't want to waste another 10-15 minutes waiting around for the check. Overall, neither the food nor the service were impressive, so I can't see myself coming back. There's no shortage of fantastic Thai restaurants in OC/LA, so do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Still good, after all these years. I hadn't been here in ages since I don't work in the area anymore, but happened to come by with some friends for dinner on a Wednesday night. It was very busy, and I noticed they'd expanded into the next space. They were able to add a large bar area with the expansion, which had the same beautiful decor as the old section. After a few minutes' wait we were sat at a table upstairs. We started out with a couple of really delicious cocktails: pineapple Margarita and pineapple mule. I got the Spicy eggplant with steamed tofu, which was fresh and flavorful, but the eggplant could've been more tender. The hubby's Spicy jungle noodle with tofu was not that spicy, but still tasty. I just had the most delightful meal at Panvarian Thai Cuisine! I came in craving soup and went for the Panvarian special--it was super tasty and really hit the spot. But then I ended up ordering spring rolls, Shrimp Pad Thai, Veggies Delight, Priking with beef, and the full-size Thai ribs. Honestly, everything was delicious! What made the experience even better was my waitress, who always takes such great care of my mom and me. She really makes us feel at home. Today was the first time I tried a Thai restaurant with amazing food. I have been to a couple but nothing like this one. They have a wide range of menu items to choose from, everything is appetizer size so it's perfect if you want to try different foods. I kept watching servers bring out food and everything looked super tasty and smelled delicious! The service was on point! Our server was super patient since it was our first time she took her time giving us recommendations and she showed us popular items on the menu! I got a plate called A ???? it was exquisite and the plate was decorated very beautifully!! The ambiance is super quiet and peaceful, it's perfect for a date night. The staff is super welcoming and super polite, they made our first visit amazing. It's always a 5 star dining experience! We usually gobble everything up so fast that I never get photos, but I made it a point to get some this time. Here's the run down on what we had this time: Moneybags are chopped chicken and shrimp in wonton wrappers. Panvimarn Delight is like an appetizer sampler platter. I recommend this to get a taste of several items. Crispy fish & mango salad never disappoints. The filet of sole is extra crispy. The mango salad is more like a sauce with veggies and cashews that you pour over the fish. A ????? this was my first time trying this. The sauce in it is amazing. It also has minced chicken and shrimp. Beef broccoli is good because of the tenderness of the beef. I don't think they give enough broccoli though. Not pictured: Spicy eggplant with fried tofu. I'm normally not a fan of eggplant, but this was excellent! I think it's the sauce and the way they sliced it. So good. Spicy shrimp curry. This was just okay for me. I'm not a big fan of curry that's too sweet. Shrimp fried rice. How can you go wrong? Shrimp was really fresh, and veggies in the rice were fresh. The restaurant hasn't changed much on the inside but the inside it's still up-to-date and is a good spot for casual date night. We were greeted promptly upon entering the restaurant and we're seated immediately. It was a rainy Friday night late in the evening so it wasn't too busy. We ordered Papaya Salad, Thai Styled Rib Eye Steak, and Soft Shelled Crab Lover Soup. All items were really delicious (better than I remembered) and the the food came out quickly. Thai tea with "less ice" you went from a $5.95 drink to $7.95 and if you want no ice, that's another $2. Pictured is the actual steak I was served, minus the bed of lettuce they served it on. No side, no rice. Just this sad excuse for a medium steak and lettuce and 2 cucumbers. The cost for said steak, $30!!! The quality of meat was awful, it was chewy and overcooked and lacked any Thai flavor. Also had the pad Thai noodle dish. Average at best, didn't come with rice ( $3 for white rice). We got the siam spring rolls, spicy eggplant, pad thai, and gelato ice cream cake. The spring rolls are vegetarian and it comes with 8 total. If you're not hungry, it's practically a meal. It has noodles, cabbage, carrots, celery, and black mushrooms. The sweet and sour sauce is perfect with it too. My friend got the pad thai and it is just a good portion, she brought it home. This review is only 4 stars because the service took a while to give us the spicy sauce for pad thai and we didn't hear them do last call for dinner. We were lucky that the server said we could still order dessert, which is fortunately the only thing we wanted after the main dishes I got the spicy eggplant and ordered white rice on the side. Our Panang was served COLD and on a PLATE. There's nothing more disappointing than being served cold curry. It kind of defeats the purpose of ordering a curry in the first place, especially on a cold and rainy day. I notified our server about this, and there was no apology and he just offered to "warm it up"... Now why would I want reheated "filet mignon"?! I use that term loosely because it was clearly beef chuck or some other stew meat. The meat was already on the cusp of being overcooked and dry. I asked if he could just bring us a side of hot curry sauce, and he said no because he would have to charge me. There was absolutely NO customer service at all. When our "server" initially approached our table, there was no greeting, just a clueless, "Did anyone help you yet?" He seemed miserable and irritated, and definitely does not belong in the service industry. The pad thai was drowning in sauce and overly sweet. The curry was cold. Chef Joe needs to retrain his staff, both FOH & BOH, because they are tarnishing his name. I have been in the industry for 18 years, and this whole visit was just UNACCEPTABLE. In this economy and the price point on their dishes, I would steer clear of this place altogether. The food was garbage. The "service" was abysmal. It is very sad to see one of my former favorite neighborhood restaurants go straight to Hell in a hand basket. With the other location being closed, you would think they would do better to keep this one afloat. The ONLY positive attribute was the BUSSER. The moneybag appetizer is the most popular dish and I can see why. The "moneybags" were cute and I liked the sweet chili sauce. The tom yum gai soup was delicious, both sour and sweet. The jungle noodles were spicy and there was a lot of vegetables. The duck was a bit dry. However, the roast duck curry had pineapple, grapes, and lychee so it was interesting but not too sweet. I found one of my favorite Thai restaurants! Every time I go it is crowded, doesn't matter the time of the day! I went one hour before closing before and they continued to take in people even when they're supposed to be closed. We like to order the Money Bags, Golden Curry, Nutty Chicken, and Heavenly Combo. The Money Bags is so bomb! Imagine an egg roll that's extra crispy with extra wonton paper! Make sure to stick to mild for the Golden Curry because medium is so spicy! I wish that they would cook the potatoes and carrot longer for the Golden Curry, but if you like the crunch to your vegetables then it is fine. The Nutty Chicken has a tangy flavor to it; so imagine orange chicken and kung pao chicken combined! The Heavenly Combo is fried rice with shrimp, beef, and chicken! The service is good here, but it can be better! One thing to note, I dislike how none of the entrees here come with rice. It's weird to me how curry does not come with rice. They also don't sell rice in a big bowl sorta thing, so if you come here with multiple people who wants rice, then you have to order individual bowls of rice which can accumulate in price. read more

Decent Thai but not for that price. I would say quality is maybe 4 star but WAY overpriced. I had pad Thai special ($15), panang filet curry ($24), jungle noodle ($15), nutty chicken ($15) and spicy fried rice ($15). Total worked out to over $90 after tax. Pad Thai was pretty standard fair.. nothing too exciting. Panang was not very flavorful and beef was bland (I won't call it filet because it doesn't deserve that title). The others were same.. B level. Not bad but not great. For the price, I expect much more, especially the "filet" panang.. super disappointed on that one as I was looking forward to it. I had Thai corner restaurant a week ago just a couple blocks down for about 2/3rds the price and it was better quality. I wont give this place 2 stars because it wasn't bad and so many places now are overpriced but I wont be going back.
