I was visiting the city for a couple of days and read about Pat's Cafe and decided to try it out. Food was great but the service was slow. We were seated quickly but after 15 minutes had to "flag down " our server to take our order. Waited another 20 -25 minutes for our food to arrive. While eating my breakfast I noticed that other customers who just arrived were taken care of right away. I usually leave a 18-20% tip but today it was less than 15% due to the slow almost forgetful service. read more

What a treasure we found! Pat's cafe is an eclectic, quaint cafe that serves up...well the most incredible breakfast on the coast! The eggs Benedict were perfection, so make sure you save toast to get every last drop. Pancakes were light and fluffy, as were the omelettes. The gravy was just the right texture and seasoned well. Joe had the Joe's special and was not disappointed! Potatoes were seasoned beautifully. Pat was having breakfast next to us so we got a chance to chat with her...she is just lovely! Service was excellent but we joked they were on their best behavior being watched over by the boss...but I am sure you will get that welcoming warm fuzzy feeling all the time! My husband and I toured the northwest this month on our honeymoon and while in San Fransisco we are at Pat's Cafe. We were there only a day and a half and ate there Twice...that's how good it was! Pat really out does herself in food and atmosphere! We loved it! She has such an extensive menu that she has something for everyone! The service was great! I also notice one of her waitresses giving directions to customers for all the sites and attractions of the city. I am planning a trip back soon and Pat's will most definately be the first place I go! We didn't make it for their dinner but I saw the dinner menu and heard it was awesome so I won't be leaving again without trying it! If you haven't tried it...you need to so whether you are a local or just traveling through...please stop and give Pat's a try! You will not be sorry that you did!!! read more

I have had dinner there three times in the last 6 weeks and each time the meal was excellent and the service attentive. Pat's Cafe is ever as good as any of the North Beach restaurants for a great dinner. The quality of the food is excellant and beautifully presented. The wine list is a good one and pairs nicely with the menu. If you need a break from the North Beach Italian or the Wharf's fish food, go to Pat's. The menu is comfort food with a gourmet flare. You can hear yourself talk and many evenings can meet some nice people from the neighborhood or visitors from other places. Parking is limited due to location, but it is on the Cable car line for Mason/Powell or the 30 Stockton stops just a block away. The 47 VanNess stops at Jones/Northpoint and then walk up two blocks to Pat's. After dinner take a stroll down to the Wharf to walk off the yummy desserts! read more

I just had dinner here for the first time and was delighted. A very interesting menu with several great choices. I had the polenta with gorgonzola and grilled vegetables, and my friend had a beautiful creme brule. A real find...cozy neighborhood feel with great service and very high quality cuisine. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon the restaurant this past weekend when we were walking and it looked like a great place for breakfast. Unfortunately the waiter (fussy male) was very rude and we will not be coming back. He seemed perturbed that I couldn't decide what to order. He never brought us water or refilled our coffee and was extremely inattentive. The two ladies (I assume Pat and possibly her daughter were very nice). Dinner at Pat's is great food and a great deal -- about 20% less than eating anywhere else in North Beach for the quality. We live in the neighborhood, and took some friends there Monday night. Sadly, it was almost empty. While breakfast and lunch are waiting lines only, more people need to discover Pat's for dinner or she won't be able to continue being open at night. We all loved the pork tenderloin, grilled calamari salad, and the garlic cilantro fries are great. The atmosphere is colorful and really delightful with all the original framed art -- it's like eating in a gallery. Best of all, it's quiet -- no high-ceilings, music blaring. We first ate breakfast here last year, when I had possibly the best Joe's Special I've ever eaten. A few months ago we moved into the neighborhood (practically across the street from Pat's) and have been back several times for breakfast and dinner. The food has always been good and sometimes excellent, but the service is pretty consistently slow. I don't know if it's the waitstaff or the kitchen, as most of the delay seems to be between ordering and getting the meal; though we've also had to sit and wait quite a while for our check. Unfortunately, our last visit several weeks ago really ruined it for us. Pat, the owner, and some friends were celebrating the unveiling of a new sign in front of the restaurant. After they left the man who had been working on the sign had a loud and long disagreement with our waiter. The man stormed in and out of the restaurant several times, slamming the doors to his Jeep, shouting at the waiter, and probably frightening his poor dog which was in the Jeep. At one point he drove off only to return a few minutes later to continue the antics a bit more before leaving again. Our waiter did apologize after the first outburst but it then continued and yes, we waited at the table after our meal for at least ten minutes before the waiter reappeared and we could ask for our check. So: good food, located very conveniently for us, and we probably won't be back. If we wanted a floor show we would have ordered it. Perhaps employees shouldn't drink where they work. read more

I love Pat's Cafe! I've only eaten breakfast there, so I cannot comment on their other meals, but the breakfast is really outstanding. On a recent trip to S.F., I had their California omelette several times. They use chicken sausage and avocado, and the eggs are very good quality. The potatoes had a good home cooked feel. The coffee was rich. On other occasions, I've gone for the ham for breakfast. A really tasty slice. The service is friendly and efficient. There is a variety of local artwork on the walls. I believe some of it is for sale, some may not be. In general, the decor is attractive. read more

Great prices; not cheap, but portions and quality for what you pay for. Two meals plus coffee cost us $25. The only thing we didn't enjoy was a bit of sulfur-like smell in the place. Our family found Pat's after hiking up and down San Francisco one morning, and any place we could sit down for a quiet lunch seemed good to us. We were pleasantly surprised when we found Pat's. The owner (Pat, I assume) greeted us cheerfully, and immediately brought us coffee and water, which the staff kept refilled. Our lunches were tasty and healthy. I had the fried eggplant with veggies in a fresh pita wrap that came with a side salad. As an added bonus, Pat's is located across the street from the terminus of the Mason-Powell cable car line, two blocks from the Embarcadero. read more

It came out a minute later lukewarm--probably sitting in the window for 10-15 minutes. Maybe an off morning but not checking in on customers is not a good practice--won't come back. Very slow, indifferent service. We did not feel welcomed, starting with the host. Not a smile on anyone's face. Our waitress was inattentive, did not ask how the meal was, did not offer to refill coffee or water. She appeared to go through the motions, in slow motion. The kitchen and dining staff appeared to be in the weeds, even when the restaurant was not full. Worst meal we had the whole time in SF. Worst value - 1 waffle (alone, nothing else) for over 10 dollars. Worst service, yet 18% gratuity automatically tacked on. Please do not be deceived by the line-up outside. Go anywhere else but here. My daughter, son-in-law and I always looked forward to coming here since my daughter and I discovered this place a few years ago...however...we went here over the Super Bowl weekend. When we walked in we saw that they were busy, no problem. We were able to get a table fairly quickly. Once we were seated and given menus it took a good 15-20 minutes for anyone to ask us if we wanted drinks or even take our order...while everyone else that came in after us was getting attended to. Apparently we were seated at the owner's (Pat herself) station. Once we got her attention, she was very curt and short with us. She finally took our order. Once our food came we realized that the Ham & Egg croissant sandwich that my daughter ordered was missing "the ham"...since we were so rudely treated by the owner herself we decided..why bother? We finished eating and the whole time after we received our food, not once did she come back to check on us. I had to go to the counter to pay our bill...which is when I saw Pat sitting down and having a meal with no care in the world about the patrons she left to fend for themselves. I was always happy to recommend this place to family and friends when they come to visit the San Francisco area...but NO MORE! Will not be coming back...there are plenty of other places who will treat their customers much better than the treatment I got! read more

We got mimosa's and breakfast. The servers were very friendly, and we were seated and served quickly. My husband got the French toast special (French toast, sausage and eggs) and I got the pancake special (pancakes, egg and bacon). It was more than enough food! My friend and I were looking for a decent priced/good food kinda place when we stumbled upon Pat's Cafe. Thinking that it was a coffee shop we went inside we were greeted by a very nice woman. They informed us that they just started serving dinner. So we sat down in the back and ordered our food. The food was great my friend got the hangin tender and I had the beef bourguignon both were delicious perfectly cooked and we had great service. We had creme brulee and the owner treated us to some lattes...very nice of her (Thank you!) So if you want a great place for breakfast, lunch of dinner this is the place to go for good priced, delicious food! read more

I just went to San Fransisco and stayed at the Hyatt. I love Rhode Island and went to Cafes and breakfast places all through out and quite enjoyed them! Pat's cafe though, makes them look like dumps! With genuinly nice service and intresting and creative decor, it's a great place for Breakfast, Lunch, and DInner. Plus, Dessert! They have an excellent menu but my favorites were fruit crepes' for Breakfast or Crem bru le' for dessert! They make the best Crem bru le' you'll ever taste! If you stay on fisherman's wharf you have to try this lowcost restuarant! read more
