Peacefood is an OG vegan staple in New York, and with all the new vegan spots opening up, it's sometimes easy to put Peacefood on the back burner. My most recent visit reminded me why I love Peacefood so much. This location near Union Square is incredibly spacious and unlike many ny restaurants, there's actually room between tables so that you aren't listening in on your neighbor's conversation. I came in the midst of a snowstorm and the staff was incredibly welcoming, offering spots to hang our coats and letting us sit as long as we needed. On weekends they have cinnamon rolls that are warm, soft and have plenty of cinnamon flavor throughout - definitely get if you're there on a Saturday or Sunday. Weekend or not, the bakery case is consistently filled with great options, haven't had a treat I didn't enjoy here. I tried the burger which was served on focaccia bread and plenty of fries. The fries were seasoned well and the burger was a beyond patty stacked with sprouts, onions, tomatoes, pickles, and peppers. The PFC tenders were also great; they were essentially "chicken" tenders which we got with both their ranch and chipotle sauces. The tenders were adorned with lemon wedges and shredded carrot which was a bit odd, but was easy to put to the side. The serving sizes here are generous and the price was quite reasonable, especially compared to similar vegan fare. If you're debating going to Peacefood, this is your sign to stop thinking and have your next meal here! read more

One of the more Reliable , consistent and authentic vegan/ vegetarian spots left in Greenwich Village. Food is always homemade and prepared from scratch. Soups are delicious. The bakery items and desserts ate spectacular. My favorite is the vegan confetti vanilla birthday cake. Some favorite soups are cream of broccoli, cream of pumpkin and vegetable mushroom barley. The ginger turmeric latte will warm you up on a cold winter day. Peacefood is enjoyable! I came here for lunch and they have a nice menu! We ordered the miso tahini sprouts sandwich, the Japanese pumpkin sandwich, and a side of cheesy fries. I found the miso tahini sandwich to be nice, but a little bland and the bread was a little stiff. I really enjoyed the veggies chosen as the filling like the sprouts, but it wasn't AMAZING. The Japanese pumpkin sandwich is definitely the better sandwich option on the menu and really different! I would recommend that one more. It has just the right amount of sweetness. The cheesy fries were standard but a nice comfort food! I appreciate how this restaurant offers more cozy eats! For dessert, we ordered the carrot cake and chocolate cake. Of note, the slices are pretty large which I appreciate since it's ~$10/slice! The carrot cake had a really good flavor and interesting components like walnuts! I also loved the frosting since the cake itself is not overpoweringly sweet, so it's just right. I think my only complaint is that the first layer was undercooked/slightly mushy, and the bottom layer was properly cooked. The flavor was great, but the inconsistency of the texture was a bit off putting. The chocolate cake was visually beautiful, but it had a really grainy texture so this was a bit dry. However, I think the desserts stood out more in terms of flavor! In terms of service, the staff were super friendly and quick!! Our vegan friends recommended Peacefood, and it exceeded our expectations. The ambiance was charming, and I loved the art on the walls. The food was comforting and delicious. I tried the miso wonton soup and raw lasagna, and I appreciated knowing that the dishes were prepared with care and thoughtfulness. Being gluten-free and dairy-free, I enjoyed the lasagna. Although it wasn't served warm (because it's raw), the flavor and texture were enjoyable. They don't serve alcoholic beverages, but they do have a great selection of teas, and their coffee is quite strong, a perfect complement to their scrumptious desserts. Since my last review in 2019, I have gone vegan and gone back here many many times over. Went yesterday for lunch with a colleague/friend and had the Japanese sweet potato sandwich which they serve with a radish salad. Delish. I usually don't do caffeine after 11 am or noon, but their turmeric ginger soy latte is so inviting on a cold day so couldn't resist. It was outstanding. Peace food was highly recommended by our host. The all vegan menu was full of items we had a hard time imagining what they would be like. We kept bringing the waiters back to ask more questions. As it was, it took most of an hour to order and quite awhile to prepare and serve. But it was worth it though we were very full and it was late so we'll have to save the delicious desserts for another time. I ordered the pfc cutlet with mashed potatoes, cauliflower and covered in a marinara sauce which as delicious as it was generous. My partner had the Beech mushrooms with veggies and a round mound of brown rice (not the most appetizing way of presenting. It also was generous and tasty. Leaning into fall with @peacefoodnyc's seasonal menu full of warm and hearty dishes. Nothing screams comfort food than a plate of steak, mashed potatoes, and string beans. I'm a whole foods, plant-based type of vegan so I did not order this special. But a taste of it from my friend's plate had me shooketh. It had a deep, umami flavor. Clean. And the texture was natural. I want to say it was made out of mushroom. If you do know, please tell me. Else, I might just have to go back and order it for myself to find out. The mash and string beans just took it over the edge, with the potatoes soaking in that porcini mushroom gravy goodness and the sauteed beans adding a textured crunch. I have been going to peacefood for more than 8 years now and it has always been my favorite vegan restaurant. Incredibly kind staff, speedy service, and amazing food. There is always ample seating and great ambiance for a family/friends dinner, date night, or solo meal. I always get the same two items, the pan fried Shanghai dumplings and the pfc tenders. The dumplings, which are my favorite dumplings in the city, have a bit thicker and chewier of a dough with a mushroom chive filling. Even as a mushroom-disliker, these are still incredible and would highly recommend. The chicken tenders are also a fan favorite, with non-vegan friends also enjoying them. If I had one recommendation for a change, I would love to see them use reusable metal cups for the dipping sauces rather than paper to generate less waste. Brought our young granddaughter for dinner here before going to see Blue Man Group; she's vegetarian so that made sense, as this place is vegan so she could have ordered anything from the menu. She ate a lot of it and we took the rest with us which I enjoyed for breakfast a couple of days later, a little soggy but fine. I very much loved the raw lasagne. Thin slices of zucchini, eggplant, other veggies and what was probably a cashew cheese - this was delicious! My husband had some kind of cutlet teriyaki, which he really liked a lot. The chickpea fries - holy moly. I am beyond obsessed. My friend and I split the chickpea fries and I'm so glad we did, although in retrospect we probably could have each gotten our order because they were amazing! The fries come with a vegan ranch that is also delicious. For my meal I got the sweet plantain lasagna and it was incredible. The portion sizes were big and I brought half of it home for lunch the next day. My friend go the parmesan rigatoni + pfc cutlet which is a tofu based cutlet. She loved that the rigatoni pasta was also mixed in with cauliflower and other veggies so the dish wasn't heavy. Upon entering we were warmly greeted by two staff members who gave us our choice of a table and promptly brought us waters. They were so kind and fun and it was great chatting with them throughout our meal. Service was incredibly prompt and we got our food quickly without feeling rushed. I love that the menu feels safe, because everything is vegan and the menu is clearly listed with gluten free options. Overall ambiance in Peacefood reminded me of a hotel lobby but the staff and food made up for the funky vibes. The other night I went on a terrible first date and despite that I still had an amazing meal. I don't know if there's a much better review that one can give than that. The chili fries are phenomenal. I almost filled up on that & the soup, but fortunately didn't and got to try more. The staff was so friendly and our waiter was so phenomenal. I would've rather been sitting at my table with them. Plus, the atmosphere is really great and the location so close to Union Square is perfect. Re-rating peacefood because it is truly a special place. The staff are friendly and ready to answer any questions. The food is consistently delicious. My current favorites is the burger and the dumplings. The smoothies are also yummy, especially the Bombay delight. I feel so sad that this place is struggling financially ~ rent in the city is so high and way too many important community restaurants have closed due to impossible expenses. Please consider eating here, being your friends and family (even if they are not vegan, they will like it! as attested by my carnivorous father).
