Firecracker Shrimp 5/5
Nhue G.

We got a BOGO deal so we got food here for the first time. It's a chain Chinese food place. They cook to order, so food can take a while to come out, around 20-30 minutes. Overall, the food was not bad, but hit and miss. * Firecracker Shrimp 5/5 - Crispy, tasty shrimp. Tasted like honeyed shrimp but with no walnuts. * Spicy Korean BBQ Steak 1/5 - Tasted like salted or soy sauce beef that is extremely salty. Had no sweetness or KBBQ flavor. * Fried Rice 4/5 - Pretty good fried rice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restroom had no air circulation so it was like walking into a sauna. Not sure if it's intended or they just need to fix it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My visit to Pei Wei was a bit hit-or-miss. The standout was definitely the Salmon Poke Bowl-it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Highly recommend it if you visit! However, many other dishes (like their orange chicken or broccoli beef) tasted very similar to Panda Express, but with noticeably smaller portions. For the higher price point, I expected more generous servings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ground is wet all over, and I almost slipped. Be careful![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I must admit that we drove pretty far because we wanted to taste Chef Jet Tila's food and it did not disappoint. We love rooting for him when he is on some of our favorite shows, and now we are rooting for his restaurants. We had the fried rice with orange chicken and also beef & broccoli. Both were fantastic. I loved the beef and broccoli the best but my husband loved the orange chicken the best. I was so excited when I saw there were sprouts in the rice, I love that so much but rarely find it. We also enjoyed the crab wontons. The sauce was spicy but I kept going back for more. All in all a great dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also would like to mention that the restaurant is extremely clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff welcomed us as soon as we arrived. Extremely friendly. There was a family in the restaurant with little girls running all around and spilling things, and the staff never lost their cool. They helped the dad who was a bit overwhelmed. They were kind through all of the father's apologies. Really good guys working here. We need this restaurant in the Bay Area please!!!

Spicy Korean BBQ Steak

Food is all right. Actually, their orange chicken definitely tastes better than Panda Express and any express type of Chinese food. I highly recommend their orange chicken. The pad Thai was all right. We also got their Korean spicy beef and beef and broccoli bowls, and they were all on the saltier, saucier side. I like their unsweetened iced teas; those were good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a casual restaurant where you can order at the register, then sit to eat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are plenty of fortune cookies, chili & soy sauce packets, to-go boxes. It's convenient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They clear off your table for you, so you don't have to put your dirty dishes anywhere if you dine in.

We are regulars at this location and the food has always been delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is clean and the servers very attentive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The green beans needed a little trim this time around but other than that, it was as wonderful as always.

This is the last running Pei Wei and I will give them 5 stars for staying in business. The day this place closes will be a sad day for me. Seize the day!

THE BEST - Green beans are an absolute must

I was surprised to see the reviews not a little bit higher, but regardless, my wife took me here for my first time since she has been here before and said it was pretty good. I would definitely agree and say it was very good, and they had a large number of options. We ended up ordering the Kung Pai Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Szechuan Green Beans, and more. The Green beans are honestly the best I have had in a very long time. I am not a fan of green beans, but the marinade that is on these, I was easily able to eat the full bowl of green beans before I remembered to grab a picture. As for the beef and chicken, they each had great flavor and great seasoning as well. The fried rice with each was moist and not too hot or dry. As for the veggies, they are pretty standard and basic, but again, this is a solid option, in my opinion, as a better Panda Express option. Definitely recommend it and have been a few times now since the first visit! The service was great, and the front lady was sweet enough to provide honest feedback and let us know the go-to's!

Beef Teriyaki

I was pleasantly surprised by my personal experience here! We stopped by for dinner during the holiday season and were met with lots of seating options in the open space. There may have only been one or two other tables with people. We ordered the Honey-Seared Chicken with white rice and the Beef Teriyaki with a side of fried rice -- our orders arrived to our table quickly! I LOVED the Honey-Seared Chicken! And I will most definitely be ordering it again. The portion size is definitely amazing. The amount of rice that's included is MORE than enough and the amount of chicken was plentiful! The honey with the chicken was such a splendid taste and mixed with rice...so so delicious! All of this for $11? Just a great deal. While the Honey-Seared Chicken was delicious, the Beef Teriyaki was more on the mediocre end. While the price point was still great for the portion, the fried rice almost seemed like it was not fully cooked. The dish was overall a bit on the salty side and what stood out the most was how watery the dish became about 10 minutes into eating. Because it got so watery, the remaining teriyaki and the fried rice turned into a mushy like consistency. It seems that the food experience here depends on the dish! I will definitely be ordering the Honey-Seared Chicken again and will be looking to order more dishes adjacent to that more than the Beef Teriyaki.

Tried a new place for lunch today in Irvine. Pei Wei Asian kitchen was quite a good surprise! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place itself is large and bright. Clean and offers lots of condiments, side plates and to go boxes right there in a self serve area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love that idea! The young woman got our order wrong but they were super quick at fixing it and getting it back to the table. We ordered the signature lettuce wraps which by the way were soo delicious and flavorful! Quite a good surprise in my opinion. Also we ordered the Thai basil chicken and white rice which is a new dish. Great flavor and good size serving. Definitely filling! We also ordered the spicy Korean bbq steak with substitute fried rice. The steak was soft and tasty and the rice was pretty good as well. I am excited to go back and try a few other things they had on their menu soon because they looked scrumptious. If you're in the area give them a shot!

These drunken noodles only had two small pieces of chicken added. I had to send it back. Plus the noodles were nasty.

4/20/25, We've come to this only remaining location in Southern California a few times over the past six months; although, I am still trying to find something outstanding to say about this place but I just can't come up with anything. There are a few unpleasant things that this location like the others years before they all closed, you would think that this being the last one remaining that it would be better but honestly it's just poorly managed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For starters, has anyone noticed how chilly it is at almost anywhere you sit inside the restaurant? Seems like there is an air conditioner blowing directly down at each table so even on a warm day outside you have to remember to bring a jacket if you want to dine inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Additionally, notice how the tables are left messy for a long time after a customer finishes?, it takes the employee about 15 to 20 minutes to come around to clear off a messy table although you never see them clean off the table with a wet towel and detergent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Thirdly, the bathroom smells and/or bathroom soap smells come all the way out to the dining area, so it is actually very unpleasant to be smelling the odors or even that bathroom detergent smell all the while trying to enjoy eating the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lastly, they want to charge a lot extra for a tiny bit of peanuts or scallions, so we brought our own scallions straight from our home garden and the peanuts are from Trader Joe's. And finally, the chicken on the bourbon chicken dish tasted more like chopped rubbery pork belly meat, so I'm never ordering that again. Plus they give way too much rice for the price. Doesn't make such a good meal unless you bring some of your own extras from home to add to it.

Firecracker Chicken and Fried Rice
Chone M.

Been wanting to try this place for a while, and I was not impressed, nor was I disappointed. Got the firecracker chicken and fried rice, and it was pretty tasty, and a decent amount of food for the price. However, the service was awful, but it wasn't really the end of the world. Not sure this place is worth going out of the way to try, but not a bad bang for your buck.

There was a crowd of people waiting outside so I was a bit nervous that it would take really long. But we added our name to the waitlist on the iPad outside and we were sat in less than 30 minutes (when we went on the list, we were party 13). The wait went by super fast! By the time we finished our meal, there were lots of open seats. I first heard of this place as a "copycat Din Tai Fung". I actually think it's better to think of this place as another Taiwanese restaurant that serves similar food to DTF, but not a copycat. Although some of the popular items are the same (XLBs for example) the restaurants are definitely different. Firstly, the service here is SO FAST. And all the servers were really kind! We ordered our food and it felt like everything came out within MINUTES of each other. By the time we had all our savory dishes, I had only taken one bite out of the first dish. That's how fast it was! Haha We ended up ordering: Spicy XLBs, Beef Roll, Golden Prime Beef Noodle Soup, and Taro XLBs for dessert. Everything was DELICIOUS! My husband's favorite was the Beef Roll, while I think my favorite may have been the soup. The Spicy XLBs (4/5) were great! They felt quite large as I ALMOST had to eat them in two bites (but like why would I ever do that). Flavor was great and I thought there was actually very little spice in these. Compared to DTF'x XLBs, I thought these were just as juicy, but less ginger-forward (which made it feel less flavorful), and more sweet. I was personally missing some acid and wanted a bit more salt cuz it was a tad sweet. The Beef Rolls were pretty good too (4.25/5)! Nice and crispy. Even though it's pan fried, it felt light because of the vegetables. And I know this is weird to say, but the combination of beef, hoison sauce, and veggies almost tasted like pho flavors...but crispy? Yummy! I personally again wanted a bit more salt. But I'd definitely order again. Now for my favorite, the Golden Prime Beef Noodle Soup (4.5/5). WOOWWEEE! She's spicy! And I have a good spice tolerance so beware. I really loved the flavor of the broth. It was spicy and also had a really clean flavor. It looked like it would be a watery broth but WRONG! It was so flavorful. I loved the chewy noodles too and even the noodles on their own were spicy cuz they clung onto the broth. A really delicious soup! I'd love to eat this on a cold winter's day or when I'm sick. Delicious! The Taro XLBs (3.9/4) were pretty good too, but skippable. They weren't too sweet, which was nice. They had a lovely consistency and good taro flavor. But compared to everything else, they weren't that special. Overall, a really delicious restaurant! I'd definitely come here if I was craving XLBs/Taiwanese food.

We also had the golden beef noodle soup. I wish they had a non spicy option because it was too spicy for us. The drinks on the other hand are amazing. The drinks were pretty cheap, I think mine was under $5 and the matcha was like $6.50.

The lamb skewers were juicy and perfectly seasoned with cumin, and the grilled beef tendon skewers had an amazing crispy, chewy texture. We also tried the beef paomo for the first time--it was warm, comforting, and packed with rich flavor. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and after chatting with the staff we learned the owner is from Xi'an, which explains how authentic everything tasted. It wasn't easy to separate the meat from the bone either. I've had lots of duck. This may have been the worst one I've ever had. The sliced pork was incredibly tender, with a clean, fresh flavor that let the ingredients' quality shine. The jelly noodles were refreshing, spicy, and full of bold Sichuan flavors. The combination of heat, seasoning, and texture was simply delicious. The dessert was also surprisingly good.
