Had lunch at Philly's Best the other day and was happy with the food but did have some issues, lemme break things down: Ok first off the Philly cheesesteak I had was delicious, the restaurant is clean, and service was fast. My issues, price! Just seemed like I paid about $3-$4 more than I should have for this kinna food. Did have fries and a soda but still I'm throwing this out there, prices should be shaved just a bit IMO. Will be going back but would love it if they put out some kind of discount through Yelp or other means. Then I'd prolly be a regular and a lot of other people would too. I like you Philly but leaving you a tre' star until you come up w a solution. Oh and parking is kinna a b!atch because it's a very busy center but that is manageable they just need to run more promotion or discount programs. read more

The food is good ... I agree it's not the end all be all. That being said this get 5 stars for their hygiene alone. The bathroom is always clean. I constantly see employees washing their hands and cleaning! Even after washing their hands they put new clean fresh gloves on to handle food! This may sound like common sense.... Ya not all places do that! Philly's get another 5stars for their customer service! My mother has forgotten her handbag there THREE TIMES!!!!! Employees have grabbed it before anything can happen to it and even have tried to get our attention to return before we leave. Name another place that is like that? Also she now is on a gluten free kick... They have made her bread-less.... Lettuce-less.... Cheese steak! I can assure you that there is plenty of cheese on hers! I wish to address the comment that has been the theme in more than a few other reviews. Before complaining about the cheese situation I would hope that people realize that the put the cheese on the meat while it's on the grill to make sure it melts. When they flip it on the bread it's ON THE BOTTOM!!! So though on my mushroom cheese steak looks dry when handed to me it's not. Not 100% sure what those folks were talking about... Philly's best is just okay. I agree with another Yelper that they don't put much cheese on their sandwiches. What's up with that? I will say, this is one of the lightest Philly Cheeseteaks I've had, but Cheesesteaks aren't meant to be healthy. In the interest of transparency, I'm from Philadelphia (Filuffafya). So I know something about cheesesteaks. Philly's Best has it nailed down. They're prepared fresh and cooked right, on a genuine (and fresh) Amoroso's roll. I get mine simple: steak and cheese. I wouldn't want to call it fancy dining, but if you're looking for an authentic Philly cheesesteak, go no further. And of course, you can have yours just the way you might like it. The restaurant is clean, there's plenty of places to sit (in or out) and the folks behind the counter are superb, friendly, and helpful: that would be Herman, cooking and Nayeli at the register. ...for me, a taste of home! Chris Kim says this is the premier cheese steak place to go to in the South Bay. Chris Kim has had Big Mikes and Phillys Best is clearly superior and more authentic. Why is it more authentic? Amoroso roll and cheez wiz. That's right, Philadelphians get cheez whiz on their steak, and for those of you that are haters, you know nothing. The roll is an Italian roll as opposed to french rolls that other places use which is a more softer bread. The cheez wiz is not the one that is sprayed, its more of a saucy kinda cheese usually from a can but it tastes amazing. The cheez wiz at Big Mikes is too salty and sets real quick with a skin on top. The price here is cheaper than other places, being that you can grab a sammich for 5 bucks which is quite the deal. They even have cheesesteak fries which Chris Kim has not seen before and is a bitchin idea. Chris Kim likes the pickle and pepper station they have over there. Chris Kim recommends you order the steak like this: Toast the bottom of the bun, add the wiz before the steak and add onions. This will ensure that every bite will have a cheez wiz soaked bun and beef. Though not the best cheese steak Chris Kim has had, it is the best Chris Kim has had in the South Bay. read more

Ok, the Philly sandwich here is decent but way overpriced for a sandwich. I'm not a connoisseur of Philadelphia cheese steaks but this was pretty decent. I'd come back (but only with a coupon.) Plus this is one of the few places I've ever seen Italian sweet peppers sold in jars. I'll check that out next time. read more

Mmm, well, I really hope this isn't their best. I got a philly's best cheesesteak sandwich. As far as I know, philly cheese steaks are provolone or Velveeta, that much was right but the bread was fairly uninspiring. Basically there to hold the meat, it just didn't grab my interest. The Sandwich was good. The bread was as close as you can get to the bread on the east coast. My only problem is the girl who worked the cash register also cut the sandwich. She put a glove on the hand she held the mustard with but touched the sandwich with the hand the didn't have a glove. That's not best practices for any restaurant to me. I think if you're handling the money put gloves on both hands to handle food or don't touch the food. Money passes many hands and has fallen on many floors and sidewalks so be very caution when handling food after you've exchanged money. The cook should have wrap the sandwich in my opinion. After all that's how they do it at Jersey Mike's. At Subway they use gloves to make the sandwich then take them off to exchange money. Having lived in Philly, I was accustomed to having great Philly steak and/or Italian hoagies. I was excited to try out Philly's Best. One of us had the the Philly's Best cheesesteak and the other the Italian hoagie. The cheesesteak on the special roll from Philadelphia was very tasty .. not greasy, as in other sub shops. And, the Italian sub was also very tasty. The roll makes the huge difference offering a great flavor on a chewy hoagie roll. You cannot compare the roll to Subway's .. Philly's Best is superior in flavor and texture. The shop has a big screen tv, self serve beverage area and condiment bar with two types of sliced pickles, peppers, etc. My only concern for them is that they are located directly next door to a Subway. If customers are looking for price, they will choose Subway as Philly's Best is a little higher in price. However, the flavor and quality of their meats and rolls are far superior to Subway's. Service was only okay. We walked in on an off-hour, but the gal rushed these first-time diners to Philly's Best as if she thought a busload of a hundred people was about to drop in. So I try the cheese steak sandwich. I didn't like the american cheese that they added. I didn't go with the flavor of the sandwich. I think the onion were a little under cook. I did enjoy there fries though they tastes good. Maybe I should of try the Philly best sandwich instead. I do want to come back and give it another chance. I've eaten at the one in Long Beach so when we drove down Lomita and spotted the place, we decided to give it a go. Five stars for service. It's a new spot so the folks were super. Food was good. I think it was a little on the wet side but I'm not a cheesesteak connoisseur so I'm not quite too sure what true phillies should taste like. I love mushrooms but the mushrooms were the canned kind, at least it tasted that way. Fries could have has more seasoning. I am going to break this down through a few categories: This is a Philly place in California, but they claim to be authentic, so I have to give my feedback as such. - Atmosphere - They have one really cool sign listing all the things that came from Philly. However, there is not one Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, or any Sports memorabilia. In fact, all I saw was advertisements. It is like a Subway feel. The people at the counter don't give you any type of Philly feeling or even a deli atmoshere, which is one thing I get every time at Jersey Mike's. - Snacks and Desserts - They have tastycakes, Wise chips, Rolling Rock, and a couple other things. Their selection of tastycakes is better then Jersey Mike's. - Entrees - The rolls are Amoroso Rolls and are pretty fresh. The meat in the cheese steaks are good, but not seasoned. The onions have the outer layer of the skin, which is kind of nasty because you have to spit them out occasionally when it tastes like chewing leather. The American cheese and the ham hoagie was actually really good. The cheese fries are mediocre - The cheese was a bit cold and fries weren't crispy at all - Condiments - They had a pepper relish that was more jalapeño then anything else. I think roasted red peppers with a hoagie, not jalapeños. - Cleanliness - the table we sat at was a little dirty, but I can't say that I wouldn't expect that at a normal cheese steak place in Philly Overall, I would give this place a 4 out of 5 since it is close and I keep going back. read more

after passing by for several months not going back, but still going to the same complex, I noticed the "$5 cheesesteak" sign on the window, so figured I'd give it another try. I have to say, today's sandwich redeemed this place for me. It was delicious, and I ordered extra cheese this time (american and wiz - "wit-wit") and the non-existent cheese last time, was too much cheese this time! Came here with my son for lunch, ordered a cheesesteak, Taylor pork roll and cheesesteak fries. It was all freshly prepared, the amoroso roll was so soft and complemented the meat and cheese perfectly, as well as the kaiser roll for the pork roll sandwich. I must say the Taylor pork roll sandwich was huge, only able to finish half. ate the other half the next day for lunch. Cheesesteak fries were also very meaty and cheesy! So much food and so good! Well I first have to start off with that I really love Philly's Best ever since I first tried them about 6 years ago at the Burbank location near where I work. Now that location make a Philly Cheessteak like back in Philadelphia. So I tried this place thinking that the quality and uniformity would be similar. Well what a shock. The bread is the same but they just miss on everything else. I ordered my usual Cheesesteak with Cheese, Mushrooms and Grilled Onions. The Meat was plentiful but the Onions and Mushrooms were just not cooked enough. The onions were still crunchy and the mushrooms were just lightly grilled. The Burbank location cooks everything just right and then when all components are ready they mix everything into a nice pile and then lay on the cheese slices and just was the cheese melts they assemble it with the bread and server. The owners of this location should visit the Burbank location and take really good notes. I feel that if they do not, they will not last and that will be sad because it could be so much better. At lunch the line is out the door most days in Burbank. My 2 cents. read more
