It's a James Beard Award restaurant for a reason. My go-to order items are the egg rolls and the pho dac biet. The egg roll is perfectly crunchy and the filling is extremely flavorful. One sip of the pho broth and you're transported to a magical place. So much flavor yet so balanced.

3 color drink/desert. I had better at Bamboo

Super quick service and the broth was amazing. It's a small parking lot so good luck, and this place is cash only. This place is big enough to accommodate parties of ten and there's plenty of small tables. I wasn't impressed with the egg rolls. Overall, the pho was good!!!

Oxtail

If you are looking for a great and authentic pho spot, this is it. Ive been coming here with my family since I was a toddler, and after all these years, it's still my favorite pho spot and hands down #1 pho restaurant in Cali. The consistency here is incredible. On my last visit, I ordered a small Pho Tai with an order of oxtail on the side. The broth was everything a great pho broth should be. Beefy and full of flavor tasting like it's been simmered for hours with beef bones. Every sip was delicious and comforting. And the oxtail... It was juicy, tender, and cooked to perfection. The meat practically fell right off the bone and paired perfectly with the pho. Every bite reminded me why I keep on coming back. What I appreciate most is that the food tastes just as good today as it did when I was a kid. That kind of consistency is rare and speaks volumes about the care they put into their food. This is definitely a spot that keeps on generations of family coming back. A couple of helpful notes: They will be relocating to their new spot sometime in Summer 2026 at 8894 Bolsa Ave, Westminster, CA 92683

Pho Dac Biet

Food okay. Service great. Cleaner than most pho restaurants nearby. Been here before and brought my girlfriend for her first visit. Not the biggest fan of the small, tight parking lot, but we got lucky and found a spot pretty quickly. We also managed to beat the lunch rush, since the line started stacking up right after we sat down. She ordered the Pho Tai and I got the Pho Dac Biet. For me, the broth is EVERYTHING, and while it was good, I have definitely had better. Overall, it is a solid spot, maybe a bit overhyped, but still worth trying at least once.

The best pho in OC hands down. Came in Sunday afternoon for lunch, lots of parking but busy! Be prepared for parking and maybe to wait. Put your name on the list hanging outside the door and they will call you when ready! We were sat almost immediately though. Inside is a large scale mom and pop shop that is FILLED with people and workers. We ordered a medium and large #23 pho and 2 waters, we got everything not even 5 minutes later. When I tell you this is the BEST broth I've ever had, it blew me away. I'm not one to usually order extra noodles but for this place I would order as many noodles until I ran out of broth, it is that good. Noodles were on the soggier side, I'm not picky about noodles but if you are then this is something to consider. Portions were huge for the price, very happy with that. CASH ONLY. I didn't see an ATM there but I'm sure they had one. Will always recommend and they have a new customer for whenever I'm in OC.

Pho đặc biệt and oxtail
Trinh T.

I've always heard great things about Pho 79, and overall the experience was solid, but with one disappointing miss. The pho itself was really good. The broth had great depth of flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly, exactly what you want in a comforting bowl of pho. However, the oxtail I ordered didn't live up to the same standard. It tasted like it had been sitting for a while, dry, overcooked, and a bit mushy instead of tender and rich like you'd expect. It definitely took away from what could've been a great meal. I'd still come back for the pho, but I'd probably skip the oxtail next time.

This place is always busy, however the line usually moves pretty fast. Btw , it's CASH ONLY. I ordered the #107- crispy chicken with garlic butter sauce over rice and really enjoyed it. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. The portion was generous and everything tasted fresh. Service was quick and friendly. I'd definitely come back.

Beef brisket pho, egg rolls and pork and shrimp spring rolls

There is a reason Pho 79 is a James Beard Award winner. The pho broth is incredibly flavorful, and they give you a really generous portion of brisket. You also can't go wrong with the egg rolls and the shrimp and pork spring rolls are absolutely worth ordering. Just keep in mind that it is a cash-only spot. The parking lot is pretty small, but you can easily find parking on the street if it's full. The 3 times I've been here the service is quick and friendly. A must-visit spot in Garden Grove!

Super Bowl
Horacio C.

Great spot if you come hungry! If you arrive starving, you must try the Super Bowl -- packed with flavorful, delicious beef and generous portions. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. My only gripe: my canned soda was room temperature instead of cold. Still worth a visit for the food.

Parking: Small parking lot that was completely packed. You might need to wait for a parking spot while waiting for a table (WRITE YOUR NAME DOWN ON THE CLIP BOARD). Interior: Large inside with plenty of seating. Not that clean with sticky floors and tables. Workers are fast to for service as there is wait but it is a bit run down inside. Wait Time: 1-20min wait in line depending on group size and table available. Food comes quick ~10min or less. Items Order: 8/10 Pho Xe Lua $18.25 - LARGE BOWL by default as it is a combination of meats. Portion for protein is mid but items were cooked well. Noodle portion was quite large and I suggest ordering more meat on the side (usually order the OXTAIL ON THE SIDE but they ran out - go for lunch if you want to guarantee getting this). Noodles were also cooked al dente. Broth was flavorful but still average. 10/10 Cha Gio $9.75 - AMAZING but super small portion with only x3 pc. Their nuoc mam for this was very good!

Medium #23 with flat noodles

Pho 79 has the best pho in OC. The broth is absolutely incredible. It's a no frills restaurant that's CASH ONLY. There's a decent sized parking lot in the back, so I've never had trouble finding parking. The service is fast and efficient. They typically have your pho on the table for you within 5 minutes of ordering. I also love that they have 3 sizes of pho to choose from. I don't think it's advertised on the menu, but if you don't feel like having the thin vermicelli noodles, you can opt for the flat rice noodles instead. My go-to pho spot pho ever!

The Colitas oxtail is the best I've had. Period. The beef broth is rich and flavorful, service was excellent, and the whole experience was top notch. If you're in town, you need to try this place.

4 orders: Pho and Bun Rieu
Jenny C.

Traveling from SF....Free parking. Prices: 3 tiers Small/Medium/Large. Payment method: CASH ONLY but they took our orders via IPPAD!Purchased....Got pho tai, bun rieu, pho Bo vien (#31). It was overrated and not worth the hype. Broth for bun rieu was okay but toppings were lacking (missing pork blood). Broth is lukewarm and is a bit too sweet for us (depending on your taste buds). Broth for the basic pho was salty and tastes like instant soup base. It was empty on a Saturday at 6pm, but the service wasn't too good either. Service was okay. Had to get up to ask for the check and look around for help. Ambiance is basic and family friendly restaurant for sure. We preferred Pho 45!

The broth was super tasty. The oxtail cooked well. The noodles were in my opinion too soft. That's fine, my granddaughter likes him a little soft. The service was service, not bad or good. I went on a Monday afternoon and there was a bunch of people waiting outside for a table. It's a small spot with limited tables but I only waited 10-15 minutes. I ordered the #1, Banh Canh Tom Cua Thit. Vietnamese udon with crab, shrimp and pork. I love the chewy texture of the thick noodles. The soup reminded me of Rou Geng Tang, a Taiwanese thick soup but is still considerably different in flavor profile. It was delicious albeit a bit bland so I had to add the lemon and fish sauce that's on every table. I also added a ton of the chili sauce which I absolutely loved. It's very spicy and has the flavor profile of puréed fresh chilis. Tread lightly if you don't have a high heat tolerance like I do. Overall, it's good, albeit a bit pricey for what it is. In each bowl theres two shrimps, generous with the pork, but didn't really notice much crab. Still one of top Banh Canhs in my books!

Service chill, can pay at register in the front, like typical viet restaraunt where they kinda leave you to it. The Grandpa's noodles was good (a dryer noodle), great portion, meat was tender, the radish cube looking things was crispy bits of pork skin. The menu is unique here and mostly in vietnamese. I think I had wished for some sauce to go with the noodles (but I understand its mostly with the soup on the side), good tightness of the meatballs :D... They have the classic condiments on the side, the pickled garlic isn't very crunchy and kind of on the sweet side, the pickled chili does have that slight acidic kick that works well. I modified my noodle to egg for a dollar. The soup was good, on the more umami soy/beef side than clear. The wontons were abundant too, instead of a chili oil the sauce is more like a tangy sweet chili vinegrette thing. My accompaniment got a garlic noodle soup (fried garlic oil) that was rich and also in a huge bowl. For the price and portion its a hidden gem for someone who needs to feed a family. And the other cashier said in Vietnamese something about me, like "Con nhỏ này" & I thought maybe he's talking about something else-but then when he gave me the receipt of my refund, he said "and I don't want you to be a customer here anymore." I was very appalled and I stood there wondering if he really just said that to me after I had an experience. I asked him why he didn't want me to be a customer anymore. And he turns to a customer to ring them out, ignoring me. So I waited til he was done with that transaction & repeated my question. He flat out said "because you're annoying." WOW. That's just so rude. And unfortunate bc I thought the food was really good & wanted to come back for the clam & the sweet corn milk. So I definitely wouldn't want to be a customer anyways with that kind of attitude towards a customer. Btw they give you plastic utensils here even for dining in which is a con.
