The pho is delicious! I love how they have chili oil made in house upon request. The spring rolls are also delicious, but they're not gluten-free unless you remove the crispy filling. Service is very fast! I recommend knowing what to get to help speed up the service. It's cash only but have never spent more than $50 including tip (one regular pho and large pho, Thai tea, and spring rolls). Tried this terrific place today. I thought I was gonna have to wait a very long time, but luckily for me, my wife, son and I got seated right away. Place is cash only and fast paced. Ordering process is quick and food comes out quick as well so please know what you want before entering to keep it moving. I got the pho with tendon, tripe, meatball, and brisket. Also ordered soup with yellow noodles, wonton, and pork. I had this personally and it was very good. I liked the consistency of the yellow noodles, not too soft. The broth was amazing as well. After a late night out, my girlfriend was craving a "clean" tasting bowl of pho and Pho 79 was at the top of my list! We got to the restaurant around 11AM on a Sunday morning and waited for about 15 minutes which wasn't bad at all considering we were ready to wait for 45 minutes. We ordered two bowls of pho and an order of egg rolls. Within a few minutes of ordering (four to be exact), our orders came out piping hot and delicious! The thing that keeps me coming back is that the broth here in the pho tastes very clean and isn't too heavy. The restaurant is also very clean and run very well - tables are cleaned well and quick and although there is nothing outstanding about the service, it more than gets the job done. Now i live in OC and this place is my home base for PHO. It can get VERY crowded on weekends for lunch because of the larger tables and families so definitely expect a wait if you are going to try. Nowhere close to a Vietnam bowl of pho but if Vietnam was a 10, I'm giving this an 8. So we're gonna score based on American Pho standards. 8.5/10, it's a good bowl of pho. Everything is around an A tier: broth is not too rich or MSG heavy and won't make you lethargic, meats are solid, noodle texture is fine. No S-tier factors that will blow your mind though. Man, I miss Vietnam but this is probably one of the best bowls of pho in America, which still pales compared to Vietnam...I miss Vietnam lol. The downside is that every time I eat here, I have a huge headache and have to take a nap, not sure if it's just overly salted or just packed with MSG in their broth. This is pho of yesteryear! The prices were really low (inflation hasn't reached this place yet), the amount of meat is generous and they give you sawtooth herb!! Only 4 pieces for 3 bowls of pho but that's more than I have seen in a long time. The broth isn't the most beefy but it's not bad. I love that you can customize your pho by adding more meat and even thick rice noodles. Fair warning: this place is large but super busy. I came here on a Thursday around 11:45 and the huge parking lot was full. Luckily, 3 groups were leaving at the same time. Came here to settle the "best pho in SoCal" debate, and I unfortunately do not have an answer. Pho79 is good! You get good, hearty, and warm pho. The food came out pretty quickly, and the soup was burning hot (which is the only way pho should come out, imo). The pho comes in three sizes (small, medium, large), and are all very reasonable in price. They do not skimp on the meat! The noodles weren't soggy, and the chili's they give are actually spicy. The egg rolls are delicious-- not too wet inside and perfectly crispy. The service wasn't phenomenal but I'm not here for the service, it's the kind of rustic service you would get from a busy mom and pop shop; I came here for warm, yummy pho on a cold day and got exactly that. Ambiance is homey. My only point of critique is that the pho will make you incredibly thirsty! We were all chugging water throughout the day. In Westminster/Garden Grove, there's a ton of pho options that it is hard to choose which one to go to. Pho 79 was one of the top options that popped up for me. I can see why this place is so popular. Though the place is cash only, they told me where the closest atm was and saved my table for me. The line was really long but I got seated super quickly, which I really appreciated. The staff was super friendly. With the asian restaurant stereotype where the service isn't the best, I liked how quick and attentive they were at Pho 79. As for pho, the broth was super flavorful. There was a lot of meat and topping in the pho, which I love. I'm a big bean sprout and onion person, so I enjoyed the amount in my pho. They don't have the sauces on the table though. So if you're a big sauce dipper, you have to ask for more. Also, I didn't get a water refill but I don't mind that little misstep. I came solely for the pho and that's what I got. Go to pho 101 instead. Cleaner, and newer. Broth is still flavorful. They are owned by the same ownership. This place is good but there are known for roach infestation here. Our first time trying Pho in Garden Grove/Little Saigon. But if I were to choose my favorite spot so far, this would be the ONE. The broth. Fire Tripe. Fire. Sausage Spring Roll. I got the pho with rare beef and fatty beef belly in medium size and added ox bones on the side. Ox bones are great but they do run out sometimes, super tender. The meat quality is good too and the portion is solid. A medium would probably be a sufficient amount of the average person but if you have a big appetite consider the large which is pretty big. This is probably my favorite pho place! I have tried a lot of places in the Socal area but this one is always my favorite. The food is to die for but the service is also fairly fast. I usually get their pho with rare beef and brisket and the beef is soft and tender, not too chewy and the broth has a great flavor. Parking is a bit of a pain at peak hours - they have a lot but its small. You can find street parking around the area too. They have a paper sign-in wait list at the door. I feel like there's a constant battle between phoholic and pho 79 for best OC pho. I prefer pho 79 because I think the pho at phoholic is slightly on the sweeter side. When I came here I really tried to put aside the fact that this place has a James Beard award AND is on the Michellin guide. I wanted to come in trying to understand what sets Pho 79 apart from other pho restaurants (if you know the area, you know that there's no shortage of these around it). My conclusion is that Pho 79 is probably the best pho spot in the OC, that I myself have ever been to. I got the number 32. Rare steak, well cooked beef, tendon & tripe. The broth is amazing. It's something I can't explain but definitely something you can tell right away from many other pho restaurants. The meats and noodles are perfectly portioned out as well. We didn't wait long at all. Got a table within 5-10 minutes, ordered, and our food was out in about 10 minutes. Overall, had an excellent time and was very pleasantly surprised. WOW! The pho here is bomb dot com! It's a must-try! My friends and I came here after a conference. Right when we parked the car in lot by the restaurant, we can instantly smell the pho! We shared the pho, bún bò huế, and egg rolls. The bún bò huế and egg rolls were not bad but the pho was outstanding! I thought I had good pho before but I was definitely wrong. Food/Drinks: When the place is full of locals, you know that it's gonna be a good meal. I usually order a medium-sized pho with thinly sliced ribeye and meatballs. Never had the largest size, but the bowl does look quite wide. The broth is very good and has a nice beefy flavor. One of the only broths that I leave as-is without adding siracha/hoisin sauce. Thinly sliced meat is actually thinly sliced; some places slice it too thick. They also give you a spicy chili sauce to dip the meat in. I've heard that competing restaurants have tried to steal their secret sauce recipe. Don't blame them since it's good. Ambiance/Service: Lot of tables and looks like a typical pho restaurant. Food comes quickly after ordering (always less than 10 minutes). Never had a bad experience/accidental wrong order here. Stopped by here before catching our flight back home and our bellies were happy with the comforting food we had! Ordered the chicken pho with egg noodles and added beef balls and it was scrumptious! The broth was very clear, warm and comforting! I'm always worried for restaurants that add in a lot of MSG that leaves an unpleasant aftertaste! But luckily didn't taste any of it at all.
