Instagram sent me to Pho Dang. One of my friends sent me a viral reel of the place, and I couldn't resist the hype. I stopped by the restaurant around 11am on a Wednesday. Given that the place opens up as early as 8:30am in the morning, I wasn't too worried about not being seated right away. As I suspected, there was plenty of open tables during this time. Pho Dang was probably one of the nicest pho restaurants I've been to. I'm talking modern-looking and beautifully decorated. It's casual just like your standard mom's and pop's pho spots, but the vibe at Pho Dang was much more elevated. I appreciated that their menu was small. They basically specialized in pho, which means that they got to bank on perfecting this product. That being said, I thought their pho was excellent. I ordered a bowl with steak, flank, and fatty flank. I don't consider myself a pho snob by any means, but I could taste a quality broth when I have one. Before embellishing my soup, I took one sip of the broth and savored its rich flavor. It came with a heaping pile of thin noodles (flat noodles are an option if that's your thing) and generous amount of beef. Had dinner with a friend here a couple nights ago and really enjoyed ourselves! The restaurant feels a lot more elevated in ambiance with the fancy stuffed chairs, shiny tables and furniture, and good lighting. Service was also fast and attentive, though we came in around 5:40pm on a Tuesday and it was fairly empty (tables started to fill with people as we were almost finishing our food). I think the broth here has a lot of dimensionality and depth of flavor even as it also tastes cleaner and lighter than I've had at other pho restaurants (cleaner does not mean blander, here!). Really enjoyed it as well as the noodles (they offer you a choice of what width noodle you get); I got the default thin noodles as I just wanted traditional pho. Been seeing this place on a lot of influencer's social media so I decided to give it a try. They all say this is one of the best pho in the Bay Area. Well that is a damn lie. Came here around lunchtime on a weekend, and it was very busy with a fairly long waitlist. We had to wait about 30 minutes to get seated, but it was somewhat worth it. The broth was savory yet light, which pairs perfectly with noodles. The meat was very tender, and the meatballs had a unique flavor compared to others I've had but in a very good way. This new pho spot has fresh noodles and a super clean broth. Yes it's on the pricier side being about ~$20 but I think it's well worth it. I got the pho tai duoi Bo (rare steak and ox tail, $19.50) and it was delicious. They forgot my rare steak but they quickly brought some over in a small bowl of broth. They have pickled garlic slices and chili paste but no hoisin or siracha on the tables that's readily available. I did see some hoisin sauce bottles on the side but I think you have to ask for it. A new spot that took over at crawdaddy! Sad to see crawdaddy gone but an interesting surprise to stumble upon this place since there's so many pho places in the area already. One thing that stands out about this restaurant is the decoration. It is very decorated in a a clean and classic way but the prices of the dishes are pretty reasonable(for this economy I guess). They are known for their Northern style pho here and offer traditional condiments to pair with it which include pickled garlic and fermented chili sauce. They still offer Sriracha and hoisin if you ask the servers politely. I got the pho dac biet with fresh noodles and it comes out quick, though a bit luke warm and not hot on that particular day. The broth was light and fresh with a strong essence of ginger which is very true to the northern style. From reviewing the other pictures provided by other individuals, the interior appears quite nice and elegant with the wood and overall design. Food: Phở Đặc Biệt: 2.8/5 Being that this place seems to specialize in phở, my expectations for this dish are quite high. A few concerns here. When we received it and brought it home, the beef was simply wrapped in plastic wrap and the juices leaked everywhere in the bag. Food safety - Negative. Of course, this is beef and everything else was covered, but there is still room for cross contamination with raw meat next to a fresh item like vegetables. Placing it into a bag or a small container may render this. Moving onto the actual dish, the components together in one bowl seemed to work well. The individual components separately were not my favorite. Broth - There seems to be a fair amount of sodium and MSG added. Only 3/4 container was provided and we had to dilute it. The aroma is interesting - Alright, but very faint smell of the spices and something about it is different/missing from the typical aroma I'm used to. Optimal amounts of beef and bò viên are provided. I love the variety of herbs provided too. The bò viên is different from the ones that I am used to. This one had a bite to it versus being slightly more "chewy" and "elastic" in texture. Sriracha (made in-house I believe) was interesting. It was not my favorite - kind of hard to describe, but again, this is a personal preference in flavor profiles. Drink: Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng): 3.1/5 The "egg" part completely disappeared by the time this got home. The color of it also looked really pale. Quite foamy - Leads me to believe that this was made with the whole egg versus just the egg yolk. I'm aware that this is a personal preference for others, but the egg white makes it very foamy and just dissolves away if not consumed quickly. The egg yolk itself has a richer and creamier consistency that I like and it maintains its form until completely mixed. While the coffee had a nice color, the taste was lacking and was very diluted even before the ice melted at all. Price: Expensive Hmm...yes, expensive. About $30 for the two items. Quite expensive even for the Bay Area. The average bowl is about $15-18 total, so this has definitely topped the list in terms of pricing. This can be considered average pricing because of subjectivity, howsoever, the quality that is provided is taken into consideration for me. Location/Parking: Optimal While I have not visited this place in-person, I am well aware of where this spot is and the location. The parking appears optimal because there is a Walmart within the same vicinity. For parking that is close to the restaurant itself, there are limited spots in front. I really can't imagine parking being a problem unless there is an event happening within the area. Storefront wise, it appears quite ideal. The restaurant faces Story Road and there is much traffic happening on that road. Again, Walmart is nearby, as well as, Vietnam Town and Grand Century. read more

Coming from Southern California, I have to admit I am quite snobby when it comes to food, and most definitely when it comes to Vietnamese food. When we got in, the restaurant was very modern and beautiful yet still paid homage to the culture. A pretty hard balance to strike. Looking at the menu I was pretty flabbergasted by the prices...literally $20 for a bowl of pho. And $7 for a side bowl of Bo vien. But whatevs I was gonna try it anyway. As everything came out I was blown away by the attention to detail. I love seeing the thought behind businesses and Pho Dang's attention to thought and creativity was very apparent from their logo design to their in-house condiments, their branding and their story. Finally the food: holy shit. It was SOOO good. The noodles were soft and fresh. The broth was unbelievably clean yet flavorful. I didn't even dare touch the hoisin or sriracha. Their in house condiments complemented it so well and that was the moment I did not care how pricey they were -- it was worth it. This is by far the fanciest Vietnamese pho spot I've ever visited. Even the water was served in a takeaway paper cup with a bamboo straw--it somehow made the water taste even better! You can tell they really prioritize quality, using top-notch ingredients without cutting corners. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a deep, meaty taste, and the meat was incredibly tender. Amazing new pho place in Little Saigon! There was a waitlist of 2 parties ahead of us even at 3pm on a Sunday, and it lived up to the hype. I had one of the combo pho options and it was delicious. The broth is light but still full of flavor, which was definitely better than other more MSG-heavy broths I've had. The noodles also taste super fresh, as does all the meat -- the tendon deserves a shout-out because it was literally melt in your mouth.
