They can get busy, and there was a line forming as we were eating, so it is understandable if the service can seem a little pushy at times, and this comes out in very subtle ways (i.e. There's no AC, only a small fan. If they want you to leave, they'll position the fan away from you). Cold water is also only available upon request, as well as extra napkins. Otherwise, you'll be wiping your mouth with a one-ply napkin the whole time. The banchan was great. I especially loved the onions and perilla leaves. The kimchi tasted fresh and tangy, but the radishes were a bit too sweet and cut very clunky. The Naeng-Myeon was good; it tasted very heavily of sesame, and not much else. The meat was also pretty tough to chew. Very filling, but expensive for the amount of meat you get. Definitely made use of the vinegar and mustard, which they eventually took away to give to another table. I'm thinking I just ordered the wrong thing and came on the wrong day. I saw what other people ordered, and it looked delicious, always served with enthusiasm. Next time, I'll have what they're having.

We ordered the galbi combo with spicy tofu. Soup was under seasoned and inedible. The galbi was the cheapest flaken cut you can buy at the Korean market. They were sitting there for at least 45 minutes when the waitress came up and said I just want to double check your order that's when they realized that the waitress didn't even put their order in they were saying in Korean that please don't leave. Granny is here and we will get the food out as soon as possible and yet as they were leaving the table, you can see them with a smirk on their face. It was disgusting. The worst part is isn't actually even over there must've been a table of 20 across from us celebrating a birthday and they were there before we were and they must have been served at least an hour after us and the waitresses were so rude to them. I felt so bad for that party, but they looked so laid-back. I don't know if they really even noticed or cared. We ended up trying to pay for 10 minutes to get out of there and finally just got our own containers from the weight station a plastic bag and as they saw that we were leaving they finally took our payment Maybe this was an off night maybe there was a different cook in the back maybe they were so busy that they just couldn't pay attention to flavor any of their food or cook it thoroughly. Maybe they were short and someone called in for staffing. All I know is everyone with the prior reviews seem to have great service and food, but this is definitely not what we experienced and definitely not what the table behind us or the table in front of experienced This was by far hands-down, the worst experience. Ive tried pho soups before and up to now nothing like this one. I'm open to others but like I said nothing like this yet. I love this place the workers the owners so family oriented. They always greet my daughter and me so beautifully. I love their decor for a small place. Everything well put. Honestly I feel like home in this place. I've taken friends and family and not one single regret. My mom may not be an elite on yelp but she can be tougher and yet she just kept rejoicing the savory broth. No words. Empty plate. The moment we pulled into the parking lot I was like, "I have a good feeling about this place." I walked in and was immediately greeted with a deep aromatic smell of pho in the air. All 3 of us ordered their Pho Combination which has it all: Sliced brisket, sliced eye round, tripe, tendon, meatballs. We also ordered their shaken beef rice platter to share. Before digging into my bowl, I took a long deep smell of the broth as if I was taking the fattest bong rip known to mankind. It only got better from there though because the broth tasted as good as it smelled. Incredibly flavorful. All the flavors were balanced -- salty, sweet, umami. The noodles were cooked almost perfect (I like my noodles very al dente), but the doneness was definitely the kind that would suit everyone's preference. The shaken beef was delicious too. The meat was very tender and they mixed fries in which isn't typical/common, but it was really good! The rice was made perfectly too, at least to my preference. Only (minor) complaints were my bowl not being hot enough which is funny because I like my food cold, but certain things need to be piping hot like noodle soup. Also there wasn't very much meat in the shaken beef dish. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. I just remember working nearby when I was younger and Saigon Dish becoming part of the routine. I came constantly. Sometimes practically every day. This was before the larger setup they have now, when the whole operation felt smaller and you got to know the person behind it pretty quickly. That person is John. And before we get into pho, John deserves his paragraph. He is one of those increasingly rare restaurant owners who makes you genuinely happy to hand him your money. In the early days, before I became the longtime regular who mostly gives him shit, I remember him talking me through ingredients. Why he chose something. What I should order. What was good that day. There was an intentionality behind the food that told you somebody was paying attention. And that's the thing I respect most about this place, he never let it go. The restaurant grew. Life moved on. I stopped working nearby. I got older. I brought coworkers. Then friends. My parents. My sisters. Eventually my wife and kids. And the pho is still good. I should establish that I'm obnoxious about pho. I've eaten a lot of it, from tiny places where nobody particularly cares whether you know they exist to polished restaurants charging you for the privilege of sitting underneath an Edison bulb. There are spectacular bowls all over California. So I'm not going to tell you Saigon Dish serves the single greatest pho ever created by mankind. It doesn't need that kind of BS. What it does incredibly well is balance. The broth is clean. That's the word I always come back to. Clean. Deep enough that you know something happened before it reached your bowl, but it doesn't club you over the head with star anise and herbs. And it isn't the sad, watery approximation of pho you sometimes encounter when you wander too far west and somebody has decided broth should taste like hot water that once met a cow. This tastes like pho. The filet mignon is consistently tender and smooth. The tripe is properly cleaned. The tendon is cooked beautifully, soft and gelatinous without disintegrating, which is where tendon should live. The meatballs are surprisingly good. The well done beef can occasionally lean a little dry for my taste, but that's what the bowl of broth and a little sriracha are for. I've also eaten my way through so much of the menu that reconstructing it would require archaeological work. Egg rolls? Get them. Rice dishes? Yep. Noodles? Yep. Vietnamese coffee? Obviously. Coconut drinks? Go for it. I've brought an absurd number of people here over the years and the remarkable thing is how universally the place works. Pho nerds can find something to obsess over, but you can also bring somebody who barely knows Vietnamese food and they'll be completely comfortable. And then there's the operation itself. This isn't some immaculate Beverly Hills dining room designed by a hospitality group. Thank God. It looks like a South Bay Vietnamese restaurant. Every available corner seems to have acquired a purpose. People are moving everywhere. Tables are turning. Someone needs extra onions. Someone wants another bowl. Someone's asking for sriracha. Somebody's kid needs chopsticks. Water appears before you realize you need it. And somehow it flows. That's harder than it looks. Service here has always felt unusually effortless to me. Not performative. Nobody is giving you a TED Talk about the provenance of the bean sprouts. They just take care of you. Parking occasionally becomes its own little hunger game. Don't panic. Circle around, wait a few minutes, somebody will finish their pho and leave. I've written a lot of reviews and I don't throw five stars around because then five stars stop meaning anything. But how exactly do you rate a restaurant you've voluntarily returned to for close to thirty years? At some point consistency becomes the review. I've watched Saigon Dish grow from the little place I remember into what it is today. I've sent coworkers here. Friends. My parents. My sisters. My own family. I've probably eaten enough of John's pho at this point that some measurable percentage of my body belongs to the restaurant. And I'm still coming back.

The wait is never too long for me but it gets packed pretty often.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say this is the BEST katsu chicken I have ever had. And I know this for two reasons: 1. I'm a big back. I KNOW quality. 2. My 3-year-old is SUPER picky, and this boy was over there eating HALF of my katsu with me! That alone tells you something. My hubby absolutely loved the Spam musubi and said it was the best Spam musubi he's ever had. And the sushi??? B O M B! I'm so freaking happy we found this place because we definitely found a GEM. This is officially one of our go-to spots now! Whoever your cook is, DO NOT LET THEM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT. Give that person a raise, a vacation, a trophy, WHATEVER IT TAKES. 10/10. My usual order is the poke bowl, and the fish is always consistently fresh. They also have a really wide selection on the menu, including a lot of different sushi and roll options, so there is always something good to try. The restaurant itself is quite small with very few tables inside. Because of the limited seating, I've only ever done takeout or ordered through Uber Eats, but the food travels perfectly and the quality holds up. What keeps me coming back is the overall value. It is honestly hard to beat both the high food quality and the price here. If you're looking for a delicious, reliable meal, I highly recommend checking them out.

I think 2 or 3AM to cater to the Japanese and Korean drinking crew. It was a great hang, and they had a lot of really good options. Needless to say, it was the best option at 1AM on a Tuesday. I came dozens of times over the years, and it was never outstanding, but it was good. I last came here in 2019, and enjoyed it. They had the same person working, from when I first started coming in the 90's. And he is really good at his job. It was what I expected it to be; a well priced mediocre food spot. At that time, they had a good special which was a roll and ramen. I went back, and unfortunately, this may be my last time ever going to it. It wasn't good....... They cut the roll in 1/2, so the special wasn't even a good deal anymore. But, even more disappointing was the ramen. Like, really disappointing. If you are the business owner, I wish you well, but you have to make changes if order to survive. I see the attraction; it's a legacy business in a wonderful location. Today's ramen had a few disappointing things. The egg was overcooked, and had shell. This is easy to fix. What happened to timers? The shell could easily be fixed because you could rinse the egg after you peel. Also, the "chasu" was not good. Like, wrong texture and dry. I'll check back on the reviews to see if things have turned around. I should have known when I came in, by the lack of Asians dining. If your goal is to serve those who are not discerning or aware, well, best of luck. So, I have a new rating system......I will be write what I feel honestly about an establishment. The only ratings I will give are 5 stars, which is enjoyable, or 3 stars which is "needs work."
