We had such an odd experience here which matches up with other reviewers! First, a lady seated us and placed a pile of paper placemats and menus down on the table without even setting it up. She just straight up left it on the table in a stack. After we set up our own placemats and menus, an older gentleman with a tablet approached our table and did not say a word. He then looked at each of us which we assumed meant it was time to order. My husband ordered number 11 and I ordered number 1. We also ordered an extra side of onions which they charge for. The gentleman pressed on the tablet, mumbled something and walked away. He did not repeat our order to confirm it's correct. We received our food shortly after by 2 more gentlemen who did not say a word. My husband quickly noticed that he did not receive what he ordered (#11 pho with meatballs, tripe, and tendon). They gave us two #1's (pho with filet mignon) instead of #1 and #11. When this was brought to the older gentleman's attention, he suddenly found his voice and told us we both ordered a #1 as he nodded his head in disappointment. Would've been nice if he actually spoke to us, greeted us, and confirmed our order! I assume this is the same older gentleman who is mentioned quite a few times in other reviews. We received the correct order and enjoyed our pho! The small really is smaller than I've seen, but it was still tasty. The drinks we ordered arrived when we were halfway done. I thought that with Covid closing businesses, smaller restaurants would WANT your money and try to get you to come back especially when there are pho restaurants on every corner here. I've been going to this place for several years now and this was actually the first time going since COVID hit. If you're looking for the best pho in town, this isn't the spot for you. Instead, if you're looking for quick, friendly service, and fair prices for the portion, then this is your spot to go to. Plus, they're open til 3AM on the weekends and 1AM any other day! My go to is their #6 which comes with their well done meat, rare meat, and tripe. The portion for noodles and meat is still great for the price you pay. For a $13 large size pho, you're definitely getting your money's worth. They have plenty of people in every part of the restaurant so you'll get the service you want. It's cash only unless your order is at least $15 and you can use a debit card then. This place has never failed me over the many years I've been. Girlfriend and I visited halloween night, we were both craving pho (it's her favorite meal.) Server was not helpful and incompetent unfortunately. Food made us sick! We were quickly seated but it took way too long for our server to take our orders considering the place had been half full, or less. I ordered pho #8 and I asked if i could order the veggie pho as well but if they could serve it with any vegetarian broth, they didn't have vegetarian broth for the veggie pho. Of course my girlfriend and I saw on the menu that the only two options for broth were meat options so we ordered veggie egg noodles. On the menu it's listed as "... egg noddles with veggies (soft or crispy)." so i asked if it was the veggies or tofu that's crispy and waiter says.... veggies are crispy yes and he wrote it down without letting me know it was the noodles that were soft or crispy. I understand i should have known but I was clearly confused and I never declared which I chose. We wanted regular soft noodles. We got our food pretty fast and the egg noodles were disappointing, the noodles were dry, flaky, no flavor. It felt old and cold. Had to removed the noodles around the plate onto a different bowl so she could enjoy the vegetables. I asked if I could swap it for soft noodles trying to explain that I was confused and the waiter remained less helpful saying it's crispy, I remained polite and didn't really expect them to swap it but was still disappointed. The beef brisket pho was alright but was hard to enjoy. Ultimately it's the night after, I haven't shared a meal with my partner again and we're both dealing with stomach pains. I don't think it's a coincidence. The night after I ate i felt nauseous and unwell. I've only visited this restaurant only once before and it was a much better experience, it was absolutely packed and our service was much better. Asked something simple and try to fix us to the correct name because we've get the sauce before. Food: got the nem and they didn't state the ingredients and my friends got allergic to it... Also asked for food replacement because we got the Bo Luc Lac and the meat smelled bad like old meat.. They took our food inside and took another 15 minutes for just the meat.. Came here after Disneyland as it was one of the few pho places that was still open. It rained that night and of course we want pho as well as others, so there were 2 parties ahead of us, but we were seated in about 15-20 min. Ordered grilled pork rolls, a side of oxtail, and 2 large #12. Food came out pretty quickly and we soon knew that we had order too much food. Either we should have gotten a smaller pho or just the rolls as extra or just oxtail as extra. Definitely not both. The pho was okay. Everything was okay. Nothin really stood out as being amazingly good that we need to come back, but it was open at 10-10:30pm, which is pretty unusual for pho places. Hmm interesting - I have mixed feelings about this restaurant when it comes to their Pho. It has quite a following but I'm not quite a fan of it. Food: Pho Tai: With rare steak which is a staple. However the broth tastes a little different and not in the best way - almost a bit more flat and less aromatic than I'd like. Still delicious but when I think of Pho 79 this definitely has a different spin on it. Slightly less noodles than a large would entail but luckily the noodles are perfect. Pros: - Lots of room and service is great. - Food is actually good, but I'm not sold on their pho if I had a choice and run for the best Cons: - Ambiance doesn't fit. It's dim like a fancy restaurant but doesn't really fit the Pho vibe. - Their cash and credit card policy. I think I'll try out Pho Lu again in the future just to see if my review stands upright. So when I was looking on the menu I didn't see anything saying the exact type of broth they used. I originally wanted to get the tofu and vegetable pho, but needed to know the stock. Sadly they use chicken and beef broth. My friend got something instead. Now we did call to order it and were told it would take 10 minutes, we ran to another place to pickup my food and then hers. But they waited till we got there in person to actually start making it. Which honestly is kinda annoying. But maybe they got busy. Anyways to use card we had to add another item. They asked what they recommended and it was some avocado smoothie thing. It was alright but if you aren't a huge fan of avocados alone wouldn't recommend. I think the quality of this place has gone down quite a bit in the last couple years OR I came on a bad day this time because I used to come here all the time. I used to love coming here but from my last visit.... most likely will not be coming back unless the late night craving calls because they're open till 1AM. The broth has changed (?), can't really put my finger on it but it was just very meh. It wasn't very beefy. Just kind of tasted like stock. Not very flavorful. The service was ok. They weren't rude or anything but I don't think anyone came by to refill out water the whole time we were there. The pho was ok. Spring rolls were tiny. Pho is a popular Vietnamese soup made of broth (usually made hours in advance with beef bones/aromatics/veggies), rice noodles, and various meats. I grew up eating this stuff and would have to say this place's pho was pretty solid and flavorful. I would recommend getting pho tai (#2) or pho chin (#3) or even a combination of all the meats (#12) if you are feeling adventurous. My friend got oxtail pho and said it was soft and really good. They served the oxtail part in a separate bowl and he said that he has never seen such big portions elsewhere. I was told I had to order a medium size just to be able to order extra meatballs. I said ok no problem. When I got my pho I was so surprised! The medium was like an extra small and no flavor at all! Fantastic and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The pho and mi are great, the broth is rich in flavor and comes out ready almost instantly. The noodles are generous in quantity while balanced with the amount of meat, tendon, tripe, and other toppings. It's refreshing to eat and it makes for a filling meal at night. There's so much variety in each part of the menu I can't remember what I've ordered, but even with the small differences in each bowl there's always consistency in the deeper flavors that's brought out of the broth. It's hot, yet not scorching; an ideal temperature for eating right away. The add on plate comes with fresh veggies that bring out earthy notes of the broth and add texture. The drinks are fantastic, my favorites are the Durian and Jackfruit shakes which have their distinct sweetness while also having a perfect consistency that allows it to remain thick and yet not melt. I've also had salted lime, which is an acquired taste but was nice to have. Hot tea is great quality as well, it's a strong taste but cleanses your mouth. When coming here, be mindful that this is authentically Vietnamese so be patient as not many of the staff are fluent in English. They're very kind and take a lot of care into serving meals. Best pho joint I've ever had in Southern California. I have lots of trouble finding good places for legit phở gà with clear chicken broth, as well as places that even serve chả giò. For my phở gà, they asked me if I wanted white or dark meat. I knew then that I was getting myself into something great. When served, it came with a delicious sweet ginger sauce for the chicken - nước mắm gừng. The chả giò was perfection. No explanation needed. And the bún bò huế was magical as well. If you're hankering for a late night bowl of Pho this place is a pretty good option they're open til 1am. We came here after going to a beach bonfire around 11pm. There was a line of peole, but it moved fast. We all ordered basic pho bowls and some eggrolls the service was fast and efficient. They were also very quick when we wanted to add some additional condiments like extra limes, white sugar, pickled onions and beef fat. The food comes out incredibly fast. Pho Lu is located in a busy shopping plaza, parking may be hit or miss. They are very busy at night, since they opened until 1 AM on Sundays - Thursdays and until 3 AM on Fridays/Saturdays. Their chairs/tables are very close together and the restaurant is very cramped. They will seat you very close to other groups, even in the same table. Service is very slow since it is busy, and they probably do not have enough staff working, so it may be hard to flag down a waiter/waitress to order, for questions, for the check, etc. They have 3 sizes - regular, medium, and large unlike most pho restaurants that either only have one size or regular and large. The pho was alright, a bit on the saltier side. There was more noodles than meat in the pho. Overall, it was alright - only good for a late night spot if nothing else is open. read more

I brought it to the staff's attention, and while they initially offered to comp my portion of the meal, they quickly changed their mind because I had "almost finished" my food. This is one of our dedicated "late night" spots in OC. Lots of people come here after Disneyland or after clubbing, and it's usually still very busy at night! I actually really love the flavor of the broth at Pho Lu! So rich and delicious, but a little msg-heavy if that's something that you care about. I personally don't mind. I love the options between the regular, medium, and large sized bowls for pho. Regular is a nice sized bowl that fills me up without making me feel overly stuffed. I finish the entire bowl every time and it's the perfect "healthy" portion size. Highly recommend the #1 bowl of pho with the filet mignon steak. It's slightly pricier, but it's worth it for that extremely tender steak meat. Also recommend the pho ga (chicken). It's such a comforting bowl of chicken broth, you get the options between light/dark meat, and a side of ginger sauce for dipping your meat. He got the beef stew (mi bho kaw) I think. My dish came out first which was annoying because I didn't want to start eating & when his dish hasn't come out yet. I should of ate sooner because the beef that was in there was actually cooking in the hot broth so by the time I ate it, it wasn't rare at all... but the flavor was really good!!! Next time I'd get this same dish but eat it right away so the beef is more rare. He said his beef stew dish was amazing as always! My pal and I are pho fanatics and love trying new and unique spots. He mentioned this place to me and I was down to try a new place. He had to get something for work in the morning so it was the perfect excuse to go. It was popular spot so we waited for ten minutes which wasn't long at all. We were seated and immediately brought our waters. We ordered about two minutes later and the pho was brought out in the next two minutes. not only was it fast service but the food was amazing! I ordered a vegetarian pho while my pal ordered some pork pho. We got large sizes which cost us around $12 each. This place does get busy but it's totally worth the wait! Updated Review: My last review for this place was in 2015 and I was very unhappy with my visit. Since then, I've came here probably 2-4 times and I have to say that this place has improved a lot! 1. Customer service is friendly. 2. Food comes out at a reasonable time! - Maybe I caught them on a bad day in 2015. 3. Restaurant is aesthetic and has a nice atmosphere. 4. Bathrooms are CLEAN! - I want to applaud how clean the restrooms are here. Its honestly so rare to go to a Pho shop in this area that has clean restrooms. P.S.
