The girls wanted American Chinese food over the Xmas weekend, so I decided to come here instead of the other option across the street. I was expecting it to be pretty much the same thing, but they do their ow thing. Gone are the steam tables of prepared food. So orders take a little longer, but they are fresher. We ordered quite a bit of food, egg rolls, spring rolls, Mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, orange chicken and chicken chow mien. It was all fine. This is such a nice place. The manager tonight was so pleasant and friendly. His name is Jesus. I have always loved the house special chicken and I always crave it particularly here. Some of the branches don't make it like they do so we just keep returning. There are many lovely dishes on the menu and the area is very pleasant. They're getting two stars today because the food was great...despite the fact that the cashier incorrectly inputted a chicken entree instead of shrimp, forcing me to wait an additional 15 minutes on top of the 15 minutes we had already been waiting...but we'll get to that cashier in a second. Their food is the only reason I frequent this restaurant SEVERAL times a month.. but perhaps not anymore. Today, when we walked in and began placing our order, we were caught off guard by the stand-offish almost condescending demeanor from the cashier. She gave me the absolute DIRTIEST look when I told her I had a BOGO coupon for Memorial Day weekend. When I gave her my phone to show her the coupon, she gave me such a degrading and pompous look.. almost as if the coupon I was showing her was fake and I was trying to get a free meal. Pick Up Stix sends coupons on what seems to be all major holidays. So, unless she's new, the coupon I presented her is very standard. If she didn't know how to input the coupon, that's one thing! I would've been very understanding if she was new and had never done it before. But I could tell her rude attitude wasn't her way of disguising nervousness or confusion. Then, my boyfriend told her he had the rewards app and wanted to scan it to get points. It was almost as if she scolded him when she told him to wait before scanning it. Again.. so rude! He was merely informing her that he had the rewards app, he wasn't pressing her to scan it at that moment. But she was quick to be defensive and tell him to wait. Yuuuummmyyy! Took my daughter here for the first time and she loved it. Pricey but delicious. We also got the crispy honey chicken, we got chow main , cream cheese wontons. The plate I normally get here is the house chicken with both fried or white both rices are very good. The chicken has a great taste to it and is very fresh as well I highly recommend this plate . I have also tried there beef and broccoli which taste really good as well the beef is very good and so is the broccoli they use . I like the wonton as well they have cream cheese in the middle I suggest you try those with your meal . There is a reason why this location has terrible yelp reviews. I ordered 4 various items yesterday for dinner. None of it was edible. NONE. Chinese food is by far my favorite food. I give myself a lot of leeway with Chinese food but this location fails even my low expectations. I called the manager to tell him and he really didn't care. He said if his location produced bad food they would have closed a lime time ago!! I was shocked that he didn't care. Some people/managers care about quality and some don't. I redeemed it at the Fountain Valley location and everything with that meal was fine. If you want to be on the safe side of getting a fair amount of food for what you pay, order the full entree instead of the lunch specials. As for this location, if they work out their issues, hopefully that will bring them up to the level of the other locations soon.*** Worst lunch I've had in the past two years. Have you ever paid $7.66 for 4 bite size pieces of diced chicken? I have. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken Lunch Special ($7.09 + tax, comes with rice and two fried wontons). I was way hungry when the order arrived so I dug in. Without thinking, first bite chicken and rice. That was really salty. Next bite veggie and rice. I'm all about the balance. Then I just eat again without looking. Veggie and rice. Then I look, because I want to make sure I alternate and don't eat all of my favorites or least favorites first. Ummm... THERE'S ONLY THREE PIECES OF CHICKEN LEFT!!! I got 6 pieces of zucchini (the zucchini were cut way larger than the chicken), 4 pieces of chicken, some water chestnuts and enough peanuts. The plate was more than half rice. The dish was too sweet and too salty. That's because it was drenched in more than double the amount of sauce that was needed. Like having 10 sauces for your 6 Chicken McNuggets, except I didn't even get that much chicken. My mind was consumed with all the other meals I could've had for $7.66. Two item Panda Express combo with 3x the meat. Two cheeseburgers with grilled onions and fries from In-n-Out for $6.80. Two Chik-Fil-A sandwiches. A teriyaki bowl from Flame Broiler. A bowl from Panda Express would've had more food. From Pick Up Stix I get three ounces of meat... if that. I would never come back to this restaurant. One of the management person , who was filling my extra side order of rice, plopped in a couple of scoops and told me it was full. I responded with you could pack more in, and she refused. I responded with the truth that rice is the cheapest entree/side item that they sell, and to be cheap with that was ridiculous. I had ordered a full entree, a drink, and an extra order of rice(as I get 3 meals out of one entree order)so it wasn't as if i had placed a regular order. This is American-Chinese food. I usually prefer Samwoo. But sometimes I crave Pick Up Stix House Special chicken. If you order when you arrive, food can take a long time when you are hungry (like 15-20mins). I noticed they are busy with Take-out orders. So I tried ordering through their app for take-out on my way there. It works out great! They are cooking my order while I was driving there. Food was being packaged up when I arrived. I tried their seasonal House Special nachos and it is the best food they have not to mention very good price of $5.50. The "nachos" is crispy wanton. Love it. They should have this on permanent menu. Wow. Sadly, this place has gone downhill. I ordered two chicken entrees, upgraded to white meat on both, somehow only one was white meat and the other was dark meat and done/labeled as "extra" chicken. They are now using plastic saucers with the rice mixed in the same round saucer instead of their old red and white paper containers. This resulted in the rice becoming drenched in the excess sauce of the dishes and because the dishes were SO salty we then had super salty rice too . The flavors were off and the dishes didn't look appetizing at all. I remember when Pick Up Stix first opened in Newport Beach nearly 30 years ago. It's a real shame to see the quality decline like this and what the brand has become. read more

Was hung up on trying to speak with a manger at Pick Up Stix. Also does not pay attention to food allergies, will not make sure the customer is satified. Again beware of ordering online from here, your best bet is for take out and pick it up yourself. Check your order before you leave, if not speak with a manager I'm sure you will get some runaround then post a Yelp review to remind people some places do not care about customer service or making sure the customer is happy. The food is great (as almost always), HOWEVER, the customer service that I received today was HORRIFIC! An employee by the name of "Farida" was working the register when I came through the door, and let's just say that's where things went down hill.... Don't know if Farida was having a bad day or what, but she either needed to be doing something else or be sent home, because having her as the point of contact for the customers coming through the door was not a wise decision: I received no greeting, just a, "What you want to order?" When I decided to take the high ride and respond with, "Good afternoon, how are you?" She chose to reply, yet again, "What you want to order?" I mean, seriously? That's just flat out rude. After running my card to complete my transaction, she then proceeded to SHOVE my card and receipt into my hand. Completely unacceptable.
