Itssssssss Me Where I Usually Get My Fish & Chips!!!
    William B.

Since no yelper had yelped this place... I am gonna be the first yelper to yelp Pier 44 CHOWDER HOUSE which is located inside at AT&T PARK... And this is one of my favorite spots to have myself some Fish & Chips when going to a San Francisco Giants game!!! Although the Fish & Chips maybe expensive but who cares how often do I go to a giants game every year.. I just like to enjoy myself while eating the Fish & Chips and also watching the San Francisco Giants play...

A great bartender, worth their weight in gold!

So annoying having spent an hour searching for this place, never found it. Paid for parking, and you can't call. So disappointing

They cook the fish right in front of you, you get your choice of fish, they have fresh fish you can buy and take home raw. They also have POKÉ!? I had no clue about this, but the person sitting next to me who ordered this thoroughly enjoyed theirs. The FISH TACOS were incredible as well as the FISH N CHIPS, I got ROCKFISH my favorite for both. I love their homemade carrot habanero spicy salsa sauce. I think it's carrot? I feel like someone told me it was carrot? Their pico was standard and fresh, they also had that stinky vinegar on the table next to their carrot habanero sauce that's perfect to mix with tartar sauce and ketchup for fries. The outdoor space for seating is lovely in good weather and can get a bit packed if you come during a rush. I would absolutely come back to this place. Delicious!!!!

I'm sure that many residents who live near are lucky coming here because honestly the food was good here. There is no indoor dining but they do have a patio although it can get full which is why people ended up dining at the benches. Luckily, I'm able to find a spot after I ordered my food. Also, inside the interior, you can see informations about fish and drinks. Keep in mind that they don't have fountain drinks, but you can view drinks menu on the wall. I order fish and chips and it tasted really good. I can see how seasoned the fries are and crispy the fried fish is. No wonder why sometimes a line builds up to the point where there's too many people. Honestly, I could ordered tacos there, but they feel more like an appetizer. Or maybe I don't often have tacos to the point that I get full from eating them. We'll see when I come back because I may want to try other options.

This place has been here for a long time. I read that it was originally opened by British immigrants in the 1960s but now ran by a Korean family operator for over 25 years. The owner kept the same menu board offerings, the specialized Welsh fryer and same techniques so its maintained it's authenticity throughout the years. While this fish and chip shop seems to fits well with all the bars on Polk street, I hope that with all the fancy restaurants popping up, people don't forget about these older places. They used to have seating in the back, but on my last visit, they only allow takeout orders. Besides fish and chips, they have fried shrimps, oysters, clams, crabs, scallops, chicken, chips, onion rings, corn dog, zucchini, mushrooms, etc. I usually just get fish and chips but on my last visit, I also got the fried shrimps which I really like. I appreciate the friendly service from the owner. The shop prefers cash but also accept credit cards. Located on Polk and Sutter.

The hostess seemed like everyone was bothering her. We had to wait for a table (expected) so we had a couple different interactions with her and she said the absolute bare minimum in an irritated tone and both times I said "thank you" she just stared at me. Our waitress took a considerable amount of time to even come greet us. At greeting she already wanted us to order our food along with our beverages. It felt rushed after not being acknowledged. Once our main courses came we were never checked on until she brought the check. No water refills or anything until the check came and I had to ask. My friend started with the Hartford style clam chowder and it was the blandest chowder either of us had ever had. It honestly tasted like it came from a can. We did get this comped off, which was appreciated. The lobster roll my friend had was mostly all bread and mediocre tasting. Not worth the money at all. I had the squid ink spaghetti and it was completely flavorless other than the occasional burst of spice. It was spice without actual flavor though. I've never had a squid ink pasta dish that tasted like nothing. This was the most bland meal I've ever had at any restaurant.

You order at the bar then find a seat if you're dining in. It is definitely a spot where local residents and long-time patrons go. Service is chill and straightforward. The fish and chips were really good - solid. The portion size was very generous. The cod was nice and soft in the inside while the batter was light. Chips were proper chips. Was it the best in the Bay Area? No. Did it hit the spot? Yes. I would recommend coming here if you're in the area and want solid fish and chips. Street parking was fairly easy. The Fish & Chips are the best I've had in the city! Not greasy at all and simply delightful. They also have a solid selection of beers on tap; I enjoyed a Deschutes IPA and a Guinness. A lot of people were ordering Old Speckled Hen, which I want to try next time--I've never heard of that beer and it seems quite popular. The menu features all the hits of a British pub. I want to try their Shepherd's Pie next time, and my husband wants to get the bangers and mash. He was hoping they had a scotch egg, but that's the one item not on the menu. Oh, and some sticky toffee pudding would be awesome! The only downside was a large party of eight people with screaming children. We can't seem to escape that in restaurants lately--even in a pub. Ugh, it was terrible and sadly put a damper on an otherwise delightful experience. Chuck E. Cheese energy is not the vibe. Despite that, we will be back.
