I'm Always in need for a tasty breakfast spot! Now that I'm in the neighborhood again I've decided to come back to this spot! It's always been delicious and hasn't changed a bit! The lady was very friendly, however not to helpful! I think I miss her cheerful son working he is always happy, talkative, and makes the visit oh so much fun! Piroshki on Madison had about 20 kinds of Russian piroshki, plus soup, stuffed cabbage, pelmeni, pierogi, desserts and Caffe Vita coffee. The piroshkies are quite large and they have golden brown baked crusts ($4.65 and up) with designs made of dough on top. About half of them are vegetable piroshkies. There are non-traditional varieties like pizza and corned beef. * Bavarian sausage piroshki ($4.45): like a hot dog wrapped in pretzel or Asian bun, wasn't impressed by the sausage, prefer the other hot dog wrapped forms * Chicken, cabbage, rice & mushrooms piroshki: filled with a lot of rice and mushrooms but not as much chicken, had a touch of dill, the filling was salty, bland, and mushy, the dough isn't as soft as Piroshky Piroshky's. I was exiting Swedish Hospital this morning and needed my coffee fix. I was planning on hitting up the Starbucks next door, but changed my mind when I saw a sign for Piroshki on Madison, advertising different pastries as well as Verite coffee. I love the Piroshki's at Pike's Place, and thought a warm, homemade pastry would be a nice change of pace from my typical Starbucks breakfast sandwich and coffee pairing. The large case in this tiny joint displays the many, many choices of fillings, and all of the piroshki's offered; all of which are a little over 4 bucks, regardless of the filling. It seemed like there was a better selection of piroshki's at this location, and I was tempted to try a filling combo that I've never had, but ended up sticking to my favorite salmon with cream cheese. My 16 oz. Americano was $2. For 2 bucks more, I had a delicious drink, and scrumptious, savory homemade pastry. I typically pay $4 for a breakfast sandwich and coffee paring at Starbucks, and for only $2 more, it was definitely worth it! My buttery salmon, cream cheese, and dill filled piroshki was very large. I had mine around 11 am, (I didn't eat breakfast) and I'm still full at 3pm! For 6 bucks, my coffee and piroshki were a steal of a deal. The prices was about five bucks each. Pros: Salmon with creamcheese filling was the most tasty and delicious. You can taste the smokey salmon mix in with the creamy texture of the creamcheese. It was also shape as a salmon fish so that was pretty cool. More filling in size & portion for the price. Savory and Sweet options. Serves coffee and few tables to sit inside or outside. Cons: Most the buns are tough and not soft. Reminds me of a poor man hum bao but falls short with all the fillings having a mushy texture. It was also missing seasoning to making it more flavorful. $5 price tag can be pricey when McDonalds is across the street which also serves coffee. I really enjoyed my salmon & creamcheese but was so disppointed with the others - ham & cheese was mushy and the rest of the buns was not soft but tough/ hard chewy which ruined it for me. The Piroshky Piroshky in Pike Place Market is still my favorite spot. I probably won't be coming back here. read more

I had it heated up and hoped it would stay warm till I got back in the office, and it was the perfect temperature when I ate it. WOW, I fell in love. The pastry is sweet and fluffy, while the filling was savory and just plain nomnomerific! I thought $5 was not too much to spend for a piece of pastry that's really a meal, and I was so happy that I received my piroshki so quickly! I think I need to go there more often. I used to LOVE their spinach based piroshkies as classic, unbeatable breakfast. I would order at least twice a week. I don't know if the cook or food prep people have changed recently or what, but now those piroshkies have become filled with more stringy spinach stem than actual ingredients. I have never even tasted a bit of stem before, now, it's just a grossly stringy and dry mess. The bread was tough on the outside and soft, but not too soft, on the inside. The saltiness of the corned beef played well with the creaminess of the melted cheese. It was good, but not amazing. This is a fantastic place, and I keep coming again and again for the last ten years at least. They are famous for their savory and sweet Piroshki, and it's hard to tell which ones are better as practically all of them are mouthwatering and delicious. My preference is beef, almond and cranberry but there are so many varieties there that would satisfy any taste. It is extremely easy to order, even over the phone, which I do whenever I have friends or colleagues visiting with us at home. We are the only two of our group of friends who live in Seattle, so we always end up getting drafted to pick up the large orders for parties thrown by our Russian and Ukrainian friends who live in the Eastside. They swear by this place, for good reason. It is consistently good and they are good hot or cold. They are always very friendly when we come in to pick up the orders. My only qualm is that it is very tight seating vs the location that the owners used to have (I believe they sold it to someone else) on 3rd. It isn't uncommon to not be able to find a place to sit, so this is best for take out. I would definitely recommend them for large orders for get-togethers and parties! I had the order delivered and was happy with the service. The driver called me after he dropped off the order at the event site, so it was professional. The first time I called I spoke to a very sweet and helpful woman. She made suggestions and was thorough. I decided to add more food to my order a few days later. A different woman answered and seemed very annoyed with me. I asked her what she would suggest I add to my order and she told me she has no idea what kind of piroshki my guests would like. I asked her "what's the most popular" she replied annoyed "they all are!". So that was not pleasant. However I called back a couple days later and the super sweet one answered and was happy to suggest flavors. She went over my order and told me what would be great to add to it.
