With this place being just down the road from my house, why not give it a try? I went through the drive-thru and the menu looked a bit outdated and was a bit confusing, but I ended up ordering the barbacoa burrito with beans and rice. Opening up my order, they accidentally gave me a baked potato with barbacoa, so I had to go inside and get my order corrected. The staff was really nice and were quick to get me my correct order, so everything worked out! The food smelled really good and could barely wait to get back to my car, so I needed up eating inside! The burrito was a bit smaller than your typical fast food burrito that you could get for a cheaper price. The barbacoa tasted good and had a nice smokey flavor to it. The only problem was that my burrito was dripping with grease. The burrito also came with some rice and beans and I was a fan of those! In the end, this place is a little more expensive than your go-to fast food Mexican place. I'll definitely give this place another try and order their famous chicken! Eat on y'all! read more

I come here when I need a quick, cheap meal that's close to the office. The parking situation isn't the best here but if you come early it shouldn't be an issue. I love that their chicken is grilled over a real fire and not "grilled" in the oven. I would recommend dining in to take advantage of the salsa bar. There's three or four different types of salsa along with cabbage, onions, and limes. Also on the bar is their amazing avocado sauce. I love dipping my chicken in this luscious green concoction. Let me recount my journey through what is likely one of levels of HELL that Dante Alighieri wrote about in his Inferno, though my experience was definitely not a Divine Comedy. With 3 young children and a pregnant wife on the verge of starvation, I began my search for sustenance in the Plano/Allen area. My goal was to avoid the typical chain restaurants and fast food garbage. I thought to myself, "chicken sounds like a good idea..." and I proceeded to consult the almighty Yelp! for answers. When I saw this bootleg version of El Pollo Loco pop up in the results, I thought how bad could it be, I mean you can't possibly mess up chicken. Boy, was I in for a ride more wild than the one made famous by Mr. Toad! We get to the place and while it looks dumpy on the outside, I decide to still give it a chance. The second my family and I walk in, my spidey-sense began to tickle and I wanted to leave. But the family was hungry and the toddler was already out of her carseat so there was no going back. My wife and I ordered the whole chicken dinner with refried beans and rice for us to share with the toddler and she also ordered a side salad. We got the two older kids the quesadilla meals. Easy enough, not too difficult right? WRONG! We're taking about Pollo Regio, man. *Charlie Murphy voice* Issue #1: The girl who took our order must moonlight as a mime, because she has perfected the art of not speaking at all -- even when asked a question. Issue #2: When our meal finally arrived. They brought the wrong beans to our table. We had specifically asked for Refried Beans and were given Charro Beans. No big deal though, so I asked them to correct it. When they returned to our table however, they told us that they ran out of refried beans, and brought us what they had left -- half of a portion. Oh, but keep reading, it gets better... Issue #3: We waited 15 minutes for the side salad we ordered, only to be told that the cooks didn't know how to make it so they made a Fried Chicken Salad entree instead. Utterly baffling, considering this salad was more expensive and had many more ingredients. But whatever, it was no additional charge. However, when we asked our youngest son to walk up to the counter to ask for the dressing for the salad, he was told that their salads do not come with dressing and that he would need to pay for it. The 9 year old takes his own money out of his wallet and attempts to pay the girl (sweetest gesture ever) but I caught her before she took his money and questioned why on Earth did their salads not come with dressing. Issue #4: After a frustrating exchange, the girl and her manager, were going to give me the salad dressing, but they didn't have any available so I watched them attempt to make it. This might be one of the more revolting things I have seen in a restaurant -- outside of that movie 'Waiting' starring Ryan Reynolds. The cashier, who was just handing money, and did not wash her hands, grabbed a bare-handed scoop of what I assume was one of the ingredients and put it into some kind of container and began "making the dressing". Disgusted and already done with her meal, my wife took the uneaten salad up to the counter and asked for her money back, to which the employees responded, "Oh, we were making the dressing for you though". *vomit* Suffice to say, I have no idea how this place is even still open. I've been in gas station restrooms more hygienic and have better customer service experiences at the Texas DMV. Yelp! really should create an option for ZERO or negative stars because this House of 1,000 Corpses would be the undefeated, undisputed champion of the world! Hard pass. I like the El Pollo Regio in The Colony better. This location is smaller, smaller menu. If you customize your order they would not understand as they only speak Spanish. Easiest way is to order the combos (ex: I want #1, #2, etc.) We ordered their half chicken combo (which comes with beans, rice, and white corn tortilla). Their half chicken looked like it was old, missing meat off the drumstick. Maybe it was overcooked where meat melted off the bones so the white meat was really dry. Their carne asada tacos were ok, but the cilantro and onion came smooshed and soggy ....not fresh at all. For the price, I absolutely love Regio. The whole chicken dinner paired with rice, charro beans, and a grilled onion is a great value when I'm not looking to cook, but don't want to spend big money. As simple as the components might sound, they pack a ton of flavor into the chicken seasoning and rice, and the beans are good enough to order solo as a soup. On top of all that, if you can handle some heat then you should definitely give their creamy salsa verde a try. It's as tasty on tacos as it a a dip for fries. Such good chicken! This place is pretty amazing. It's fast food, so the prices are great, but that doesn't make the quality of the food worse! This is 'almost' like restaurant quality stuff to me! I love the chicken that is roasted or whatever they do to it. It's PERFECT. A half chicken comes with onion, rice & beans and several corn tortillas. It's really enough for two meals. I could live on the rice and beans alone. YUMMY! They have super sauces too. I love the smooth green one. It's creamy lime-y, jalapeno-y goodness! The boiled chicken that is on the tostada...boring. worst place we have ever gone to. my mom and i went on our 30 minute lunch break to this establishment as it was only a mile away. we ordered half a chicken and a chicken torta with fries. it was fairly empty when we arrived so we assumed it wouldn't be much of a wait. well we got half the chicken quickly but the torta took over 25 minutes. we asked the lady at the counter how much longer and she kept telling us 3 more minutes, when my mom finally said cancel the order the lady then went and gave us the torta! meaning it was already finished. the soda didn't have any carbonation. this whole experience made us want to never come here again! read more

I never did try the taco shop that operated out of the gas station that was once here, it may have been just as delicious as El Pollo Regio. This location of the local chain doesn't even show up on their website yet but now it shall at least have Yelp presence! Grilled chicken is their specialty but they have carne asada and al pastor, too. I went pastor because I love to pork. Ahem, I mean, I love putting pork in my mouth. I thought "tacos, easy to eat while driving" but that was not the case with these because they were loaded with yummy porky goodness and drippy with flavor (not grease.) They also came with a creamy green sauce that was THE BOMB WITH APLOMB. The come with the normal onions and cilantro on the side to add as you will and a tightly foil wrapped lime half. The ONLY draw back was that the large drink cups do not fit in a standard cup holder. Seriously, if you see one of these around town, go for it! Chains can be a bummer sometimes but a bad taco with fatty bland meat is too, so there is something to be said for the consistent quality that chains can provide. read more

The chicken was accompanied by charro beans, Spanish rice, and tortillas. The beans and rice were really tasty. One of the great things is their salsa bar. Their various salsas range from mild to "Oh my god, this is hellfire hot!" Whichever you choose, they're freshly made and delicious. Not in the mood for rotisserie chicken? Try a chicken torta. It's a great sandwich with refried beans, cheese, chicken, onions, and guacamole, on a fresh bollilo roll. We've eaten at cowboy chicken, and pollo tropical but neither of them are as good as El Pollo Regio. One last thing, the staff is unbelievable. The English transaltion of Pollo Regio loosely translates into Chicken Royale. Knowing that, why would you try anything else but the chicken? A coworker turned me on to this local chain a couple of years ago (183 and Beltline in old Irving), and I was thrilled that they opened up a location close to my house. I have not tried anything but their Chargrilled (BBQ) chicken, and (after at least 2 dozen purchases) I'm not interested in trying anything else (although I saw the hamburger that someone ordered and it looked AWESOME!). Ultimate finger food - don't order the chicken expecting to use a fork and knife. The chicken is amazing (something I would be proud to be able to grill and serve) - with a light chili rub that makes the skin delightful. Their charro beans are some of the best (with plenty chicharrones), and the jalapeno-mayo sauce (my own description) is spicy and delightful. They have a lunch special: 1/2 chicken, corn tortillas (mmm), charros and spanish rice plus a drink for $7. Too much food for so low a price! The whole chicken family deal for $15 is plenty for a family of 3 to gorge. Finally stopped in here for lunch yesterday after a year of driving past it through the blinding smoke that comes from their chimney. Had the special - three chicken tacos, rice and beans. Not sure what happened but my friend who ordered after me got his food then several other people who were behind me got theirs. Finally the manager saw me standing there and asked what I ordered. Went to order two items #4 Chicken flautas and #8 corn tacos mixed plate. Which rings at $20.56. The girl name Saira B took her too long to hold my debit card, was wondering why? Sure enough she had used my card to other persons orders and charged me another $25.25. Manager said she mistakenly swipe my card twice and should get $25.25 back. Look at my bank few hours later instead i got $20.56 back. Watch out people, this restaurant over charge for no reason. And the chicken are sometimes undercook. Smh!! Never again will be going back.
