We got pita fries and hummus dip for the appetizer and it tasted delicious. My husband ordered boneless chicken which tasted so juicy and flavorful. My daughter got ash soup and she also enjoyed it. I ordered baked lamb shank. It had a great taste. My daughter said when we came back she would make sure to order the baked lamb shank. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us suggestions and helped us decide on our food. The pricing wasn't bad at all, pretty reasonable for the food provided. Ok so this is my updated review and i finally came back the second time and i LOVE THIS PLACE! I feel so bad for being a little harsh on my first review because it was a new restaurant and just opened but i decided to come back and give it another shot since its located down the street from my house. Everything from the owner to the food made me happy this time. My waiter was so nice, he would change the channel on the TV to what ever i wanted to watch! He was also nice enough to let us bring alcohol into the restaurant because their restaurant was waiting to get their liquor license so they cant really serve alcohol at the moment. I ordered the chicken shish kabobs and it was the perfect size and portion and extra juicy! I basically inhaled it because it was so good. I also tried the pomegranent chia seed drink and that was amazing and refreshing! At the end of my dinner i mentioned that i wanted to try the baklava because I'm a fan of baklavas and it looked delicious but decided to skip on it because i was too full. Two minutes later my waiter comes up to me and tells me he's going to give me a complimentary baklava and that was so sweet! I, of course thanked him and inhaled that as well because it was that good! I definitely will come back! Service and food is absolutely amazing! Omg... I lost my trust in Yelp reviewers after this place. The restaurant look like one of those outdated place you see in the Kitchen Nightmare or those restaurant makeover shows on the Food network. The filet minion was dry (we asked for medium rare). In fact it didn't taste like filet minion. The babaga....whatever dip was grainy. Is that normal? I'm afraid to know what it's like in their kitchen after seeing those shows about outdated restaurants. The staff were really awkward. They were emotionless and almost zombie-ish. read more

My boyfriend and I intended to go to another familiar place, but saw Pom and Olive across the street and decided to try a new (to us) Mediterranean restaurant. We should have stayed with our initial plan. The tabbouleh was dry - not enough lemon, my boyfriend's falafel was dry as was my roasted chicken; the hummus didn't have enough garlic in it to give it any kind of flavor, and the pita bread was cold as if it had just been taken out of the fridge. I was really excited on Friday evening when the hubby said "you want to go over and try the Pom & Olive for dinner"? Sad to say the excitement ended there. We got there about 6:30 and there only 3 other tables occupied. One would figure this be a smooth dinner experience, it was everything but smooth. Our waitress (short gal longer dark hair and glasses, I can't remember her name) seated the two of us at a five top round table in the corner which was a little odd. She said she would be back in a few minutes to take our drink order. Ten minutes later she returned. We both ordered iced tea and by that time we were ready to order. We got the Samosas for an appetizer an the hubby ordered the lamb shank and the kale salad. I wanted the mortadella sandwich but was told no we don't have it, no turkey sandwich either. So I settled on the spaghetti with meatballs which the menu says comes with a Mediterranean salad. I was excited for the salad having visited Greece as a teenager and falling in love with them. The waitress did not write our order down but did repeat it to us. Ten minutes later the appetizer came out but still no drinks by this time we had been there 25 minutes already. So we asked the person that brought the appetizer out if we could have our iced tea. A minute or so later the older lady (I assume the manager) came by and asked if there was a problem again we asked for our drinks. Waitress appears out of the twilight zone and says they are brewing it now. Ok if you have to brew it why didn't you say that 20 minutes ago and bring us some water. Not a minute later the manager brings our tea. At last.... Happiness. But not for long. Two bites into the appetizer here comes the entrees. Ok whatever by this point I'm over it. But wait there's plenty more... Feel free to grab a snack and read on. Hubby gets his lamb shank and kale salad ON THE SAME PLATE!! Ewww. I get my spaghetti and meatballs. So I finish my portion of the appetizer and I'm still waiting on my Mediterranean salad which I would have loved to have had BEFORE my spaghetti. I ask the waitress for it and she says "oh sure I can have them whip you up a little side salad or something ". I said the menu said it COMES with a Mediterranean salad don't have them whip me up something. She said (and I nearly fell off my damned chair) "I know it says that, but no one ever really orders it I've never served it that way". Now just a damned minute here 1. The menu says it COMES WITH THE SALAD!! 2. You REPEATED it back to me!! What the Hell have I fallen into depths of insanity here. Again the manager shows up and we promptly ask to see the menu again and low and behold guess what??? Yup thats right it COMES WITH THE DAMNED SALAD. So we let the manager know what the waitress said to us and the manager says "I don't know why she said that she knows it comes with a salad". Ok back slowly away from my table let me eat and go home. I'm tried of dealing with my damned dinner nightmare. Pros 1. The sauce that comes with the Samosas was heavenly. Tart cherry plum sauce and the samosas were good too. 2. The meatballs were great moist and flavorful. 3. Hubby said the lamb shank was delicious and that he liked the tart dressing on the kale salad (that was on his plate) Cons 1. Re read the review. Pom & Olive opened 5 months ago and boy am I glad ! It's in a good location with plenty of parking in front. The restaurant is big and nicely decorated with cool background music that is not loud. Just right for lunch or dinner. We received a warm welcome upon entering; were promptly seated in a booth and then game on! To start we ordered the humus combo w/pita & cucumber spears (upon request). It was excellent and very fresh. We also had the tzatziki sauce which was creamy and perfectly seasoned ....so tasty! For our entrees we had the chicken breast boneless kabob with yellow basmati rice with raisins and lentils mixed in. OH MY GOD this was the best meal I've had in weeks. The chicken is so tender, juicy and falls off the kabob spear so easily! It is not rough or chewy! No knife needed !! Hubby ordered the same but w/salmon. He loved it and said it was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. We had fresh cucumber, honey lemon juice. Fresh and not too sweet or bitter or bland. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Pom & Olive. Excellent service. Fast. Fresh. Clean. Delicious and affordable! All this for $45. Come on now where can you feast like this at such a good price? Oh and get this! I'm super confused on how this place gets such good reviews. I went today at lunch time and was not impressed at all!! Our waitress was shy and very unfriendly. I ordered the falafel sandwich was not bad to be honest and had great flavor but the "homemade chips" were an embarrassment. They were literally soaking wet in oil and limp like a napkin. Absolutely amazing tasting food. Organic and fresh ingredients as much as possible. They put customers first and buy all quality food. They don't use canola oil and that tells me they clearly know what they are doing in the kitchen. So many restaurants cut costs with canola these days. Pom and Olive is a great, reasonably priced restaurant in Newport Beach where I live. My family eats here about once a week. From the Grilled Cornish hen to the roasted lamb shank, it is all good. Very good dinner, nice atmosphere clean and simple decor. The Pita Frys appetizer was delicious and something we have never had anywhere else. The Pomegranate Bellini and Cucumber Refresher were great non alcoholic beverages. We had lamb either Shawarma or Kabab and a Filet Mignon kabab all were cooked to everyone's satisfaction and we really liked them. Shelia did a great job taking care of is, making suggestions and helping us decide but not pushy at all just very welcoming and pleasant. Save room for desert the Saffron ice cream with pistachios was the best so flavorful,​ we also enjoyed the Baklava a la mode and Tiramisu. Found this place on Yelp while looking for a place to eat before heading to a concert at the Pacific Amphitheatre. Not only was it 5 minutes away from the venue but glad we chose to eat here. The restaurant is very spacious, and clean along with the restrooms. For an appetizer ordered hummus with pita, pretty good. As our entrees we had a kale salad with chicken Shawarma, light and tasty also ordered chicken breast kabob with a Mediterranean salad and basmati rice that was also delicious, rice was light n' fluffy. I had some time before my flight was to depart, so I ventured into this restaurant to pass the time and satisfy a craving for Mediterranean food. I checked in and received the complementary pita fries. Yay! I also ordered the falafel sandwich, which came with a Mediterranean salad. The falafel sandwich was a standout. It was absolutely delicous and quite unique (at least in my experience of eating falafels). The wrap was a pita that was the right amount of chewiness, with falafels and eggplant chunks dressed in white cabbage slivers and homemade sauce. I don't think I have ever quite enjoyed raw cabbage as much. The Mediterranean salad was also very fresh, with a delicious vinaigrette, which was also homemade. What really elevated the experience was the friendliness of the hostess/waitress, Mary. Everything was timely and served with a smile. We talked a bit and I found out from her that the chef who prepared my sandwich had worked in Paris and brought to this restaurant that particular style of falafels. I've never had falafels in my trips to Paris, but it would be interesting to compare someday. Suffice it to say, I highly recommend this place! Yum. read more

So my experience here was ruined by my two year olds meltdown. I felt so awful for the other patrons aw well as the lovely staff, who quickly and graciously boxed up my food so I could get the screaming child out. Really bummed me out that says open for brunch by they had no Brunch food. The waitress tried to tell me to get skewers or a salad for brunch to me that's dinner. Great food and friendly service. It was quiet, they recently opened and I think the word just hadn't gotten out yet. The food was delish - spicy hummus appetizer was the perfect starter. Then we had the chicken kabob plate and the koobideh plate. The portions were huge, perfectly seasoned and tender meat serviced with a fresh Greek salad, grilled onions peppers and tomato and the yummiest lentil rice with raisins. Mmmm!
