We were in the area and wanted to try a new place. We ordered the 5-piece panko chicken with two sides for $15. We got it naked with the sauce on the side and chose double fries. It took about 10-15 minutes to be ready. The fries were crispy and flavorful. The chicken was crunchy, but it didn't have much flavor without the sauce, and the piece sizes were inconsistent. We got the OG sauce on the side, and they also gave us some ranch. I ended up using the ranch because I didn't love the OG sauce, it reminded me of sushi sauce. The ranch was pretty good, though. It was nice to try a new place, but for the price it felt a bit overpriced in my opinion. We found parking on the street for $2 an hour (minimum time).
Ordered the 3 piece chicken plate and got the side of green beans (with extra charge). Food came out fairly quickly and was fresh, but everything was drowning in sauce, the rice was on top of puddle of really sweet sauce that made it practically inedible. The green beans were also covered in so much sauce that I tried to scrape off some sauce before eating each bean. Not sure if this is the norm - but definitely is an area for improvement! We used to like Ponko chicken but this was unfortunately a very disappointing experience.
Ponko Chicken is so good!! My company had a food truck and we all loved it so much. The food was served fresh with large portion sizes of sides. The sweet fries are so good and addicting! The chicken itself was tender and flavorful - I highly recommend the OG style. In fact, it's so good that I usually don't even need to eat it with sauce. It really does carry that much flavor.
Start off from saying first time here and I get any signature dishes. Service was decent, friendly staff. Atmosphere was a little loud because of the house music going on, but maybe that's the norm for this chain. The food wasn't too impressed I ordered the grilled teriyaki chicken with rice both of which had little flavor. However the carrot cake cup was really good and saved the day. Overall just ok for me but maybe just right for others.
I love Ponko! I'm properly greeted everytime I enter the establishment. Very clean, good music. My favorite location used to be in Decatur, so sad they closed it down! I always get the spicy tacos with everything on it & they never miss! They also host events like game night with prizes, check them out

I give Ponko Chicken's new location in Midtown 3.5 stars rounded down to 3. On Yelp, that means "A-OK." I think it's great Ponko has brought their delicious Japanese-inspired chicken tenders to this part of town. If you've never had them before, they're worth trying. This is Ponko's second Atlanta-area location and it opened in April 2019 on the ground level of the Nine15 Midtown apartment building, very close to the Midtown MARTA station. Parking in the Nine15 garage is free with two-hour validation from Ponko. Enter the garage via Peachtree Pl NE, in between Babalu and Dancing Goats. We visited on a Friday night and the place was moderately busy. There was a friendly employee outside the entrance handing out free toothpick samples of chicken to sidewalk passersby. The scene at this Ponko is different than the original location on Chamblee Tucker Rd. We saw a trendier and more diverse in-town crowd. The atmosphere was way more bar-like with live music, TVs, and open-air patios (one of which is covered and can be fully enclosed). The bar doors shutter-open to the street. Whereas the Chamblee Tucker location is more of a food destination, our experience here resembled more of a local watering hole where people hung out, drank, and enjoyed the music. The physical restaurant space looks good with a clean, contemporary, and somewhat communal feel. It's spacious with a fast-casual setup -- order at the counter, take a number, and your order is brought to you. This is where it felt kind of weird to me. The atmosphere was like that of a sit-down restaurant (servers brought us food, took away trays and used sauce bottles), but the food was fast food or fast-casual (this business' core product is chicken tenders). I can't put my finger on it, but it felt like a disconnect. That and a piece of wall art fell off the wall next to the bar, startling everyone in the vicinity. It looked like other pieces of art had fallen off the walls in other places of the restaurant as evidenced by the strips of sticky tape that remained. Just a new-business kink for them to iron out. Ponko sells salads, sandwiches, tacos, and plates (plates come with two sides), all featuring their local-award-winning Ponko chicken tenders. Expect to spend about $10-12 plus tax and tip for a meal. When it comes to Midtown dining, this is a relatively affordable option. Ponko chicken comes in three flavors: OG (original sweet sauce), spicy, and BBQ. Along with fried tenders, they also offer tofu tenders, vegan patties, grilled chicken, and an all-beef hot dog ($5). Sides include white and brown rice, regular and sweet potato fries, potato salad and coleslaw, pickles, green beans, and salad. I do wish they offered a few more or better variety of side options. For dessert, they offer scratch-baked cookies ($2.50 each) and "cakecups," individual servings of assorted cake flavors in clear plastic cups ($4.50 each). We got a couple plates: (1) Ponko chicken OG 3-piece ($10) with Ponko fries and Ponko pickles and (2) Ponko chicken spicy 3-piece ($10) with Ponko rice and coleslaw plus a red velvet Ponko cakecup ($4.50). The chicken tenders and cakecup were great, but the sides were underwhelming. As a whole, I thought the plates (really, they were bowls) could have used an extra side or more ingredients. They didn't seem "well-rounded" or fully complete to me. Some of the side portions were too small (pickles, slaw). I was hoping the plates would be more filling. When it comes to flavor, based on my experience here and at the Chamblee Tucker location, I recommend the OG (original) flavor. I like it the best. It's terrific. They've got the breading and seasoning just right. Slightly crispy, a little sweet, and tender, quality meat. The spicy isn't bad. As someone who loves spicy food, it's just not hot enough for me. It does have a bit of acidity/tanginess to it. Ponko fries come with "Foodie-Flakes." I don't know what that is, but it looked like dried seaweed to me. Ponko fries have that extra crunch and airiness to them, similar to the sesame fries served by Korean taco joints. Ponko rice is white sticky rice with some of Ponko's OG sauce (sweet) squirted in plus Ponko pickles on top. It's basic. Ponko's OG sauce tastes like it has mirin (sweet and tangy Japanese rice wine) in it, but I could be wrong. The pickles (cucumbers) were yummy. I just wish there were more of them. They were cold, crisp, and refreshing. Lightly pickled. The slaw was par for the course. I don't really recommend it. If I recall correctly, there were about three or so cakecup flavors. Admittedly, Ponko's cakecups are somewhat gimmicky, but the flavor is there. The red velvet cakecup we got was fantastic. It tasted freshly-made. The cake was delectably moist and there were two layers of luscious cream. My only gripe is at $4.50, they're pricey for what you get. Service was good. There was plenty of staff the night we went, several eager to serve. I'd come back. read more

Introduced by my girlfriend, I was skeptical that a chain can do an Asian style chicken tender right; but my OH my was I blown away by not only how crispy, juicy, sweet it was, but that it was just a convenient meal right in my backyard. I've omitted it for years and suddenly I was blow away. You can get the chicken tenders regular or spicy. I recommend spicy, which is not even that spicy. It just has a bit more flavor to it than the regular. It's so delicious with the ranch. They also have this sweet soy sauce on the side that i like to add on top. Secondly, the fries. Crisp. Ask for nothing more. Crispy and lightly salted. All topped with a creamy ranch that goes perfectly with both items. YOU CANNOT FORGET THE RANCH. Sometimes they provide it, BUT SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO ASK. ALWAYS ASK FOR THE RANCH. I usually order "The Basic" which is three tenders with a side of fries or rice. Fries all the way for me, but I know my girlfriend enjoys the rice, especially if you pour the brown soy sauce mix that they have. Great times. Will be back, I guarantee it. They also have multiple locations within the Atlanta area, so there are options! A few other locations that I know of: Lennox Mall, Chamblee, Marietta Square. Parking at this location is a bit tricky. They do have paid street parking right in front of the building, or you can park in the parking deck nearby and ask the cashier to validate your ticket for you. read more
A cute upbeat place located in midtown. Came on a Wednesday evening. They were playing some kind of trivia which made it a bit loud but it was a cool interactive experience. You order at the counter and service was a bit slow to order but they were very friendly when we finally did. They give you a number and then bring the food to you. We split a 5pc OG. The sauce is sweet and delicious. The chicken fingers aren't heavily breaded which I loved bc you can actually taste the chicken. Their sticky rice is actual sticky rice and they put homemade pickles on it. Now I'm not really a pickle fan but those pickles were amazing. It also came with a side salad. We opted for their house dressing which was a good choice. It was light and gingery. Other than how loud the trivia night was the experience was pretty good. I'd come definitely come back if in the area again and I'd recommend this place. read more

came again on a thursday night. i ordered the ponko plate this time with the original chicken, spicy chicken, and then the fries and slaw. so many fries! i was stuffed. slaw was okay, much smaller portion. i don't know if it was because the chicken was in a bowl but the sauce/oil collected at the bottom and my chicken was a little soggy :( i've come to ponko several times and it's usually much crispier. also, my friend got the potato salad and said it lacked flavor and tasted like pretty much nothing so she didn't finish it. also, to note--when i came on a thursday night there was like a DJ playing VERY loud music. there's a bar area which i get but i was sitting with my friend in the corner of the dining area and the music was so loud that we were having to yell to converse and eventually just gave up. it seemed like no one was listening to the music anyways so i'd recommend lowering the volume a bit. read more
Dropped by the new Ponko Chicken in Midtown for lunch. This restaurant is situated near Babalu and right across the street from Pho King. The location is much more spacious and modern compared to the one in Chamblee. There is seating at the bar and outdoor/patio. Ponko also has live music on certain days/times. Parking: Nine15 parking garage. There are only a handful of spots for retail/restaurant parking. If you visit during peak hours, there's very limited availability. Remember to get a validation ticket before you leave! Food: OG Ponko Chicken (5pc/$12): The fried chicken tenders were very tasty. I ordered the original. The inside was tender and outside was perfectly crispy. The plates come with two sides. I opted for the Ponko Fries and a salad. I ordered the fries with less salt which was perfect to dip into Ranch. The salad was okay. There were some very wilted/black/brown greens that I had to pick out... but I guess that happens. Service: A-OK. The ordering process was quick. We had to wait a while and they brought out someone else's order at first, but all is good. Overall, portions are plentiful and filling. The food is decent so not a bad place to go for lunch! They have a bar so I think it would be a good place for happy hour. read more

Delicious chicken and super fast service! My friend and I came for lunch and we loved the food. We both ordered the 3 piece Spicy Ponko Chicken Plate with Fries and Rice. The portion sizes were huge and could've definitely been 2 meals for me. The chicken was freshly fried and very flavorful. I also really liked the OG sauce that came with the rice. The fries were also very tasty and perfectly seasoned. There was also a bar that we didn't get to try, but we definitely will be back to try some cocktails! The staff was also very friendly and we got our food fast. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner, and the newer brunch menu looks great as well! read more
Visited the great establishment on a taco crawl. All the staff was friendly and accommodating. I believe I got a spicy chicken taco, and after one taco I was stuffed. We also had margaritas, and the bartender was awesome and the drink was just the right portions of alcohol vs mixers. Actually, all of the fun and action was happening at the bar. OMG! OMG! OMG! First things first, Ponko Chicken is located on West Peachtree sandwiched between 8th St and Peachtree Pl. I normally get a Spicy Ponko Chicken Plate with Rice and Pickles. Went here for dinner before a concert, when we first walked in we were instantly greeted by the staff. We informed them that it was our first time there and they gave us a sample of the OG flavored chicken. I immediately fell in love with the unique flavors! I ended up getting the OG Ponko 3 Tender Plate with double fries it was literally amazing! The breading on the chicken is sort of sweet but you can taste the soy sauce in it I can't put my finger on it but it works! The ranch went perfectly with everything on the plate as well! My mom had the spicy tacos and that was amazing as well, it came with a side of green beans which was perfect! Overall the ambiance is super unique the flavors are a perfect combination of Asian and Western cuisine! The staff, music, and food made this the perfect experience and a great introduction to Atlanta! read more

Great concept. As a vegan I was looking for an option to grab a quick bite to eat of something more than just salad or a side of vegetables. I came here after a company event at another restaurant where I had nothing to eat. Tofu tenders had great flavor and crunch to them. I had them served over rice. As simple as it sounds the taste was beyond expectations. I recommend the spicy sauce as well to go with it. read more

I am a huge Ponko Chicken fan. This location is on West Peachtree Street and has a full bar as well as patio. The setup is quick service where you order at the counter and get a number. I used to dine in frequently, but have been doing carryout ever since the pandemic started and they have carryout down to a science. I recommend you order ahead on ChowNow -- the prices are lower than UberEats, GrubHub, etc and they even have their own Ponko Chicken App through ChowNow. While they have a fairly complete menu, this place is a chicken finger joint at its core. Their breading is pretty unique -- they call it "Japanese-American" a description that's fair since it is hybrid of what you would find in Japan in a Tonkatsu dish and something that is more familiar in the US. It's really tasty. I normally get the chicken finger plate spicy (you have the choice of spicy, bbq or OG -- their sweet sauce) with brown rice and a side salad. I'm a big fan of their walnut cilantro salad dressing and they also have homemade ranch that I use on my chicken that is delicious. Locations are popping up around Atlanta -- check them out, I give them my highest recommendation. read more

Im a bit biased since I've only been here on taco Tuesday but I do love this place. The chicken really is delicious, and the tacos are priced well. A little hesitant to try the rest of their menu given the cost, but the tacos are definitely a steal on Tuesday's. They have trivia on Tuesday's here too, what's not to hate?! read more

Another gem on the tacos and tequila bar crawl. This place was unique in that they offered ponko chicken or what I believe was panko crusted chicken. What impressed me the most was one of the workers... he was so enthusiastic and talked up the business. He was the main reason we tried the food. They only offered two taco selections as well...ponko chicken and tofu. I got the chicken and it was delicious! Cooked hot and fresh and it did not disappoint. We had a matcha margarita which was okay. It wasn't my cup of tea but the service in itself was great. Going to go back and try the chicken tenders and rice! read more

This looked like just another restaurant on the midtown strip but after hearing my friends rave about it for weeks I had to stop in and try. We got all the Ponko specialties the chicken, rice and fries. It was the most delectable meal I've had for lunch. The fries were seasoned to perfection, and complimented the specialty PONKO chicken very well. The chicken itself was juicy and the crust was crunchy. The rice was Japanese Style, kinda unexpected from a fast food stop but much appreciated. Mark, the manager took care of my family and I as we were in town for my graduation. Located in Midtown Atlanta, it is the perfect place for a night out. There are so many beautiful lights all around. This was my first visit, which was for a blogger event and I was pleasantly surprised. From the drink to the food, I was not disappointed. I certainly will be back for more. Where Eats Meets West, it is the perfect combo. We sampled so many menu items and believe me, no matter what you get you will be happy. Crispy and crunch chicken, fresh ingredients great drinks. What else do you need!! The parking is a portion that I did not like, but it is not their fault. The lot if you are on the 2nd level, you will not be able to get out unless someone opens the door for you. I had to move to the 1st level to ensure that I would not have problems. read more

I like this place, the chicken sandwich was good, quality of the toppings, ehh, just okay. My side was sweet potato fries and again they were ehhh... So needless to say, food was okay, selection of drinks was average and the pricing for what you get??.... yeah, I'll be exclusive to Chick-fil-A. Hahaha. Way over priced!! $11 just for the sandwich and no combo options. Everything is à la cart and individually priced. $20 plus dollars for what really should be $13 max. read more

"Eats Meets West" as the restaurant fashions itself. And it's very good. Ponko is located on Chamblee Tucker Road and specializes in serving up delicious fried chicken tenders with your choice of sides. Every one of those sides I've had has been outstanding, but my favorites would have to be the brown rice and sweet potato friends. If you're counting dollars, there is an upcharge for ordering the brown rice and sweet potato fries. At Ponko you can choose between three signature sauces: barbeque, spicy, and "ponko" sauce. The latter is a bit difficult to describe but delicious nonetheless. I suppose it could best be described as a sweet-but-not-too-sweet plum sauce. The spicy sauce is my favorite, though just a little too mild for my taste. Ponko is a bit expensive for a quick meal but that doesn't make it any less awesome, and they aren't going anywhere. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. read more

TLDR: Def some of the best fried chicken in ATL This is one of my favorite spots for fried chicken. Their chicken is always fried to absolute perfection and so juicy on the inside. I also really enjoy dipping the chicken in that sweet soy sauce, which is the perfect complement. Would def recommend. Prices are also super affordable if you're on a college budget. read more

The location is excellent and the service seems good. (I had takeout.) I had read reviews and expected excellent chicken, but honestly I wasn't blown away by any means. My meal: 3 piece Ponko's tenders with the OG shade, French fries and sticky rice. The French fries were excellent and the best part of the meal. The chicken is tender but the breading just isn't that tasty. The sticky rice was bland and forgettable. I may go back to try the bone-in wings. I'll pass on the tenders. read more

I really enjoyed checking out the newest Ponko location in Midtown. I have been a fan of the brand since it's original location in Stone Mountain. It's so exciting to watch them grow! I parked in the Nine15 parking deck accessible via Peachtree Pl NE between Dancing Goats and Babalu. You get 2 hours validated from Ponko but if you plan on staying later I would recommend using the cheaper street parking surrounding. On my recent visit I decided to skip the sides and do a la carte chicken tenders in original sauce. I just can't find chicken tenders that come close to these bad boys. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and the OG signature sweet sauce is my favorite. Pair these bad boys with a couple of Scofflaw basement IPAs and you're all set! This place is on west Peachtree with not much free parking around. I went here for Lunch Wednesday 1-29-20. I was able to walk to this place for Lunch. This was my first time here. I liked The atmosphere. There are televisions and a bar you can go to. This is a good spot if you want to have a good drink while you're on lunch (don't tell your supervisor.) It wasn't too noisy but it wasnt a quiet place. The best part of my visit was the cashier he was so into his job I loved that he was so pleasant and his attitude told everything. He was very detailed was very specific about every item on the menu. I told him this is my first time and asked him what he would recommend. He recommended the three-piece panko meal with two sides so I got that and a big round oatmeal chocolate chip. All together it was a little over $12...pretty pricey. I thought this better be some damn good chicken. It wasn't... it was basically breaded chicken tenders and you do get a choice of three different sauces. I got the spicy. It had a hint of sweet but wasn't too sweet. It was decently spicy but not overwhelming. u get two sides. the cashier recommended the French fries And I got green beans. When my food came they gave me rice and green beans. I told the lady nicely I had french fries and green beans she said OK let me look into that. Then another gentleman came out handed me my food and apologized for the mixup. again I got the wrong food. This time I got rice and french fries but they took away the green beans I wanted. . I Was pressed for time since I was on my lunch break and I'm really not hard to please so I didn't even say anything. I just didn't eat the rice and I only ate the french fries and three chicken tenders that came with the meal. The cookie was crunchy and decent but not great. I will come back and try something else and see if maybe something else strikes my fancy. But for my first visit I wasn't wowed. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this spot. My girls and I went here for their new brunch menu. Started off with mimosas and had an excellent waiter I believe he was the manager of this spot or part owner, couldn't have been nicer. We got the chicken and waffles, hot dog, fries, grits bowl and rice brunch bowl. I loved them all but feel like the rice bowl needs a sauce or a little more spunk in the dish. It was nothing different than eating rice with chicken and a fried egg. I would strongly recommend getting the spicy chicken with any of your meals. It's not an over kill of spice but a good amount specially when eating the chicken and waffles. I would also highly recommend the Hot Dog, it sounds like a weird combination but it was stupid good! I cannot wait to come back here and dive into more of the menu. The chicken is hand battered and fried to order which is great. You can tell they care about their food quality. read more
The chicken here is good - it is Japanese fried chicken, so the texture and taste is just a little bit different than your American or Korean style. You can get a sandwich, a salad, as a taco, or get a plate. I came for the chicken, so I chose a plate. For a 3 piece plate you can have 2 different flavors of sauce (OG, spicy, and BBQ) and for a 5 piece you can try all flavors. The fries, despite our server saying they are "bangin,'" were disappointing. The foodie flakes (aka furikake), which is the seasoning used to differentiate these fries from normal ones, was only lightly coating the fries. I could barely taste the difference and ended up just dipping every fry into ketchup. Service was ok- there is a bar area for table service and on the other side you can order at the counter and get a number. It wasn't super busy on the bar side but we still had to make repeated requests for water and ketchup. read more

TL;DR: This is a nice little spot to try if you're craving chicken, but looking for a different flavor. The Japanese fusion is evident in everything from the chicken to the side items. Stop by on Friday or Saturday to see live music. The staff also recommends that you get a Ponko Plate if it's your first time going! FULL REVIEW: Parking: If you live/work near 10th street in Midtown, then this is an easy walk. It's near the Midtown Marta Sation and the Publix. Parking is available in any of the various parking decks that surround the area, or in a neighboring neighborhood. If you can walk, just walk! Atmosphere & Service: I went during a work lunch gathering with about 10 other people. The restaurant is a good size, plus they have an outdoor seating area. The service was also speedy and our waiter was extremely knowledge and helpful! Prices & Food: Prices and serving sizes are reasonable. The Potato Salad was on point! I'd recommend getting it, especially if you want something besides fries. The Green Beans are okay, but if they're not your thing, it's fine not to try them. The Ponko Chicken was good as well. I ordered 3 pieces. I admit that when I first received my pieces, I didn't think it was enough food. After eating everything togehter though, it was just fine. Eat the chicken with the Ranch that they put on the table! And eat the pickles that comes with the chicken with the Soy Sauce that's on the table. Trust me. read more
