I had been wanting to check out Postino Heights for quite some time and finally had an opportunity to do so on a Thursday evening for a networking event. Postino is an Italian wine bar located in a beautiful part of The Heights right next to Local Foods. They do have a parking lot but it's a small one so you'll probably have trouble if you're coming at a peak hour. I found one of the last spots around 5:30 PM. Postino is your definition of a visually appealing restaurant. They have a beautiful patio and a matching interior. They were packed when I stopped by. Even though I was there for a networking event, I tried two glasses of wine and also had a bite to eat. Their menu consists of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. They don't have hearty entrees available so I went with their NYC grilled cheese appetizer. I added turkey (for an additional fee) and the grilled cheese is served with 3 dipping sauces: ketchup, mustard, and pesto. It was a generous portion but a bit overpriced for what it was. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients though so that was a redeeming quality. Service was a bit of a miss. Our waitress was dealing with a big group and wasn't doing a great job. It took quite a while for me to grab her attention so I could get my bill at the end of the night. I was close to getting up to track her down. I'm sure the size of our group had something to do with it though. Overall, Postino is a great date spot and has a nice wine menu. read more

My co-workers and I decided to check this place out because of how nice it was on Wednesday. There patio is gorgeous with plenty of seating, shade, and fans. I recommend this place. It's atmosphere is a bit posher than a t-shirt imo (which I was wearing and felt pretty underdressed). Their honey cucumber lemonade literally tastes like the title. A bit heavy on the honey, but delicious. They let us try the focaccia stack which...I honestly thought was just a salad. However, eating into it was so pleasant and the avocado part was so good. The bruschetta was so amazing. I like that they cut it up so that it's easily shared. My favorite one was the apple and jam one, but I can honestly say I enjoyed all the options. I wasn't a huge fan of the brussel sprouts. I felt the dressing was too vinegary. The two paninis were both good, but I personally think the tuna one worked better. I can't say that the meatballs were anything special. I don't think I'd order that in the future. We also got the cast iron thing. I forget the name, but it was like a cinnamon roll that you can pull apart like monkey bread. Our waiter was really good at his job. What should be a great option has been watered down, noised up, and portion controlled into an unpleasant experience at high price. Been to a number of Postino locations - food here was noticeably skinny and sized downward. No refills on expensive iced tea is a shitty policy. Add way too loud blaring god knows who chose it playlist and i'm out to like a half dozen great Heights options. Meh! read more

Ok, the second time back last week for happy hour and we were even more impressed than the first. The patio is amazing, the food is even better. We had the gluten-free bruschetta. I can't remember all the ones you can try but on happy hour, it's a steal. You can get 4 slices of bread, with 4 different flavors. The bacon was our favorite, closely followed by the warm artichoke dip. Great service. Please come when you're not in a hurry. Everyone here is laid back, you will get waited on, but be patient. read more

I first tried Postino in Phoenix and was ecstatic when this location opened in Houston! Postino has the. best. happy. hour. ever. All wines and beers only $5 before 5:00 -- and the beer mugs are HUGE! You can even get a whole bottle of wine for only $20. The bruschetta boards are also fantastic. My favorite bruschetta flavors are: (1) Pistachio/Date/Ricotta + (2) Red Pepper Jelly / Goat Cheese + (3) Warm Artichoke Spread... and I'm not even vegetarian! The patio is pretty big, so social distancing is not too tough. Parking could be better at this location. Since they don't have a parking lot, it's street parking only... but it's probably better not to drive with all the cheap drinks, anyway. It was easy to make a reservation and they accommodated us very kindly when I called ahead to say I was stuck in traffic and would be 10 min late. The build your own bruschetta board complete with four bruschetta selections on their menu of 12+ options (including rotating seasonal offerings) for $15 is to die for! I especially enjoyed the date and pistachio combination along with the classic mozzarella, basil and tomato. All four were complete wins and packed so much flavor into every bite. I loved that each slice was cut down into manageable bites. Note that they have bruschetta board specials throughout the week and wine glasses are available for $5/glass up until 5PM. Our particular visit was during brunch and our orders were an eclectic mix of both breakfast and lunch offerings. The walnut bread with peach jam was delicious as was the crispy bacon. The space allows for fun cozy booths for groups inside as well as shaded spots on the patio. Kudos on the gorgeous bar lighting features and overall vibe of both the inside and outside of the biz. My favorite entree of the night was the chicken and mozzarella panini! The paninis come with a side of salad or chips. The salad dressing was nice and refreshing! We loved that they split the sandwich and salad for us because they knew we were sharing it. We also tried the sweet potato wedges, but they were a bit too potato-y for our liking. We ordered the bruschetta board, and they accidentally handed it to the table next to us. For the bruschetta board, we ordered the brie apple and fig spread, prosciutto fig and mascarpone, smoked salmon and pesto, and burrata bacon arugula and tomato. We had a fantastic first experience! We ate a late brunch and were seated right away. We ordered a peach Bellini mimosa and a cucumber honey lemonade, both of which were wonderful. Hungry enough to eat three plates between the two of us, the meatball shakshouka, P.R.E.A.M. bowl, and soft scramble toast was really more than we should have ordered! The prices here are super reasonable and the portion sizes do not disappoint. The should shakshouka was just a bit spicy and was perfectly filling; the pream bowl was well-balanced in both flavor and nutrients (meat, vegetable, grain); the toast was piled with eggs, the prosciutto was perfection, and even the toast itself was surprisingly good! Maybe the truffle oil gave it the added oomph. For dessert, we enjoyed splitting fresh fruit and a French press coffee. The service is good, and the atmosphere is fresh and modern without being pretentious or obnoxious. We definitely plan to return to try new dishes. The food and wine recommendations were great. The crispy cauliflower (I was warned ahead of time that the name is a little misleading and it's not exactly crispy) was delicious and the garnishes on the plate (golden raisins and capers I think) complimented the cauliflower and sauce so well. The grilled cheese came in smaller pieces almost like sliders with a selection of condiments. We'd recommend the mustard! When happy hour was nearing its end, one of our waiters asked if we wanted to order anything else now or for later at happy hour prices. Most places wouldn't do this and I think it's so great that Postino is confident about its happy hour offerings and wants its customers to try as many options as possible at more affordable prices.
