The set up inside is pretty simple: 1) Choose your size regular $4.50 or large $6 (up to 2 flavors) 2) Choose your flavor 3) Choose your toppings 50¢ each with premium toppings 75¢ each. They currently have two recommended combinations cereal killer (cereal snow with sweet milk glaze and fruity pebbles topping $5.50/$6.50 large) and Halo-Halo (ube with toasted coconut, sweet milk glaze and azuki red beans $5.75/$6.75 large). Food: 4.5/5 stars I tried the Halo-Halo flavor since I like ube and they don't have that flavor as an option when making your own. I'm not the type of person that likes really sweet stuff and this dessert was just perfect. Both the red bean and sweet milk glaze wasn't that sweet. What's not to love? Ice cream meets shaved ice!? WINNING. We were looking for a place for dessert and I didn't know what to expect. I love their flavor board....I wanted to try them all. Our son had the strawberry flavor with chocolate sprinkles. We (hubby and I) opted for the cereal flavor (tastes like frosted flakes) with fruity pebbles! That was super delish. I love how fluffy and light the snow is. Melts so easily! Our son couldn't finish his so we tasted his and wow...the flavor of the strawberry snow was really creamy and good. Oh wow! My third Time here and I never wrote a review yet? Sorry to make a disservice to the Yelp community! This is a great form of Taiwanese snow ice on a lighter, fluffy and airy texture. Best not to add too many toppings which cost mostly about $0.50 extra, but I tend to get the sliced almonds. When I first came here during lunchtime at 12pm, I was overwhelmed and couldn't decide so I picked the premade menu item of Valencia Horchata which was excellent and I enjoy seeing the lady made it in one of the mixer machines in the back wall. It's like looking at a work of art. Within the same week, this time after 4:30pm, two days later I had to go back to try the other flavor I wanted which was the Vietnamese Coffee which is made using Cafe du Mode chickory coffee from New Orleans! If you been to New Orleans, you know how popular this Coffee brand is with their famous French Quarter beignets. Anyway I got the Vietnamese Coffee flavor and again enjoy seeing them make it. There is always a line of people ordering, but they make it fast and turnover is quite quick. I liked this flavor too! Reminded me of my trip back to lovey city of New Orleans. You can add toppings for 50 cents which I thought was kind of expensive since a lot of them are just drizzles - such a rip off. I finally made it out to Divisadero to try Powder with my family and I was not disappointed! I love shaved show because its the perfect hybrid between shaved ice and ice cream: creamy, melt-in-your-mouth, and airy. I was a little skeptical coming here for dessert to be honest. I've have shaved snow that looked like Powder before and it was icy and very artificial tasting but I was pleasantly surprised! SF finally has authentic-tasting shaved snow! I have high expectations for shaved snow because I get the real deal every time I go back to Taiwan, but this definitely satisfied my craving. The shop itself is tiny and whenever I tried to come before the line was always out the door, so this time I came during dinner time and there was no wait. I had the mint chocolate matcha, one of the pre-made orders, because there were too many options and I couldn't decide LOL. Even though I love chocolate, I felt that it actually masked the matcha flavor which tasted really fresh on its own. The mint oreos on the side were a nice touch though. My friend had the black sesame with mochi which I loved and have already decided to order next time I come here. The black sesame flavor is strong and not overly sweet, and the mochi complements the flavor so well. I wasn't a huge fan of the wafer cookie that goes with the dessert, but maybe because the shaved snow was so good that the cookie paled in comparison. Parking sucks here, so take the bus if possible or be prepared to the circle the blocks many times. It's a little pricey considering the quantity but at least the flavors make up for it. I saw a picture of this via another Yelper and had to order it as I love black sesame. The snow was creamy, airy, and fluffy. The black sesame was nutty and very bold. I loved the chewy texture of the mochi combined with the crunchy coconut flakes. IMO, the flavors all blended nicely. Vietnamese Coffee (plain) - Probably my least favorite flavor on its own as the coffee flavor was very light. Vietnamese Coffee with sliced almonds & TCHO chocolate - The almonds gave it more texture and chocolate added a nice touch (can't go wrong w/ anything chocolate, right?). It's tiny inside with only a small bench to sit, but they usually have tables and chairs outside to sit on. They are super friendly so if you don't know what to order or how it works, just ask! Sundays are my lazy days of watching a marathon of sappy Lifetime and Hallmark movies. Yesterday, I was sitting at home with no AC watching "My Boyfriends' Dogs" where this serial dater inherits her exes' dog after the break-up. On her wedding day (to a dog-hater), she gets cold feet and runs away in her wedding dress with her 3 [inherited] dogs. She ends up at an after-hours diner (with dogs in tow) and has a happily ever after with a customer sipping coffee at the counter...who happens to be dog-loving pet store owner. Ok, guys. I just need to find a sorry sap to agree to marry me, run away from the altar with Tater Tot, and *fingers crossed* that I will meet my soulmate at Pine Crest Diner who's obsessed with dogs as much as I am. Let's just hope he has all his teeth intact. Getting back to the point, yesterday, as I was sitting there heaving in heat doing absolutely nothing, all I could think about was jumping face first into a pool of Powder's Shaved Snow. Just in time for Indian summer, Powder's first brick and mortar serving Taiwanese Shaved Snow opened on Friday, September 23rd. There's two sizes: Regular ($4.50) and Large ($5.50) and four flavors: Back Sesame, Horchata, Vietnamese Coffee, and Strawberry. You can add various toppings (50-75 cents): mochi, almonds, strawberries, oreos, glazes, sprinkles, etc. They also have signature snows - Valencia: Horchata Snow w/ toasted almonds, chocolate and sweet milk glaze, and cinnamon-sugar and The Don: Black Sesame Snow w/ mocha, coconut flakes, and sweet milk glaze. Yes, it's pricey for shaved snow. When I go to the South Bay, I pay $6 for three times the amount of shaved snow that's piled high on a plate. But, that's San Francisco for you so I don't mind. I'm glad I came when they opened at noon on Friday because there was only one person in front of me. I ordered The Don (Regular - $5.50 + 50 cents for almonds): http://bit.ly/2cFxb9G. My only regret is not ordering the large because the portion was small (for shaved snow standards and because there's a lot of air in the shaved snow). The delicate sheets of piled snow were airy, fluffy, and deliciously creamy. It's like catching snowflakes with your tongue on snow day but much better. Just as good as the beloved SNoZen's in Mountain View (now Chilly & Munch), if not better. The black sesame taste was intense and very nutty. It wasn't too sweet which I appreciated but the drizzle of condensed milk did add a nice layer of creamy sweetness. The other toppings distracted from the taste of the snow so I would skip them next time (mochi got hard). It's a tiny shop so there's no seating. There's a public parklet outside though. Although this is not the first Taiwanese Shaved Snow shop to open in SF (Fluffy Snow in The Sunset closed in 2013), this is first time shaved snow has gotten recognition in SF...thanks to Eater, Inside Scoop, and all the other foodie publications. Loved this place! It is only 4 of 4 instead of 5 because for how much I pay for toppings there it was so little! You can't see in my picture because I tried to make it look like there was a good amount but they have so little mochi and strawberry ... only half a side is covered per topping... I had the strawberry and the taste reminded me of my childhood where I'd lick the cream off the French sandwich cookies. The green tea is strong for those who love green tea matcha. The line move relatively quickly. The parking is terrible. There is a single stall bathroom they share with guests, so please please please for the sake of those who suddenly have a full bladder and needs to pee, be courteous cause we all know there's tons of small dessert shops that do not share their toilet with us. read more
