We had a very disappointing experience. The restaurant first brought the wrong item to our table and had to send it back to the kitchen. Then, our actual order was mistakenly delivered to the table next to us. Instead of bringing our food to us, the waiter told the other table that it was "on the house," so they got to keep our order while we had to wait for our food to be remade. When I asked how much longer it would take, we ended up waiting at least another 15 minutes for the remaining two dishes. Throughout the entire situation, no one apologized or offered any kind of service recovery. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled was very disappointing. The service here was very friendly. We asked to move seats because we sat at a table that was freezing cold and they relocated us. Ambiance was a very clean expensive feel. You also get to see the chefs make the dumplings! Sadly, I didn't get a picture of that. The food here was yummy. I really loved the garlicky green beans. If you love garlic and green beans, I recommend getting that. Cucumber salad was also delicious. We ordered pork long bao, pork green onion dumplings, and the spicy wonton. The restaurant is similar to din tai fung's menu and you can also watch the workers make your dumplings from the waiting area window. I asked if my party could be moved away from the middle table under the vent since it was blowing directly in my face. He advised me to just move one seat over? Lol. I've been trying to get my mom out of the house and into this place. I tried food here earlier this year....I thought it was inventive and different from the usual...and easily sharable. Mom loved the porkfried dumplings,...the scallion pancake....the pan fried pork bun...the beef udon came to the table in a smallish plate. So while the portion did not dazzle, but it was perfect for two. Think upscale street food. It used to be more common to see the dumplings and XLB created fresh, now its kinda rare. ..but here the magic makers are behind glass as you enter... My mom wants to return and try more of the seafood items especially. I've been wanting to try out this place in such a long time and finally bit the bullet last week. Upon reading their extensive menu, we noticed a lot of similarities with DTF but at a slightly cheaper price point , plus short wait. Everything we ended up trying was solid! The xiao long bao had thin wrappers with a rich, flavorful broth inside -- definitely some of the better ones I've had in the SGV. The beef rolls were flaky and crispy. The lobster abalone soup stole the show -- it's visually stunning and actually packed with deep seafood flavor. The sides rounded out the meal perfectly. Garlic string beans and honey walnut shrimp were delicious. Always a hit with our family. My usual place is Rosemead was not open on a Tuesday, so it was time to try something new. This restaurant has received a lot of interest on Instagram, so naturally I had to try it myself. The restaurant is located within a strip mall on the end next to an Asian grocery store. The mall has plenty of parking on the weekdays but I imagine this lot gets busy, as I saw signs posted that parking is limited to two hours. At first glance, the pink façade of the restaurant does not draw you in. The outside of the restaurant is very bland, but once you walk in it opens open to a more welcoming space. Unlike many asian restaurants, this restaurant is spacious, meaning you can walk around tables easily without bumping into people. Plus the restaurant has a high ceiling- and an architectural feature- box ceiling. Plus you can watch dumplings being made at the entrance to the restaurant- always a fun thing to do while you wait to be seated. The restaurant seem to be quite clean, including the modern bathrooms. So how was the food- well we did not get the traditional soup dumplings but we did try some noodles with shrimp, spicy wontons, sesame noodles and chicken pot stickers. The noodles with shrimp was a bit bland and only contained a few small shrimp. Also a bit greasy for me, so I would say this item was a miss and I would not get it next time. The chicken pot stickers were solid and I would order these again- they also have them in pork. My staple item is always spicy wontons- so here's the test.....I found the wontons to have the perfect balance of noodle- not too thin or thick and cooked properly. The only request would be to add a bit more sauce. As for the sesame noodles- these are made differently each restaurant you go to- I prefer these noodles with peanut sauce which this dish did not have. Next time I would like try some Bao. You can get much better tasting XLB, dumplings and buns elsewhere. My son did enjoy the Pan Fried Pork Dumpling, the Pork Bun and the Strawberry Lychee Green Tea, but the rest he felt was lame, esp the sweet rice one. We were quite disappointed with the flavors and textures. The service was excellent. It was fairly quiet until larger groups of 4-8 ppl showed up. A small family had a toddler that kept screaming, so that too ruins the mood and dinner. A meetup group (not my group) will be coming this weekend. I had thought about going but decided to come myself early with my son instead. Definitely won't be going again. The XLB is a must ordering item, and I also love their crispy fried dumplings, it has teh crispy skin and the meat stuffing was still juicy. The sesame panfried bao is another popular item among our group, it is super tasty, juicy and filling! Sharing with friends is highly recommended! If you are worried about the carbs, they also have lots of stir-fried vegetable items. We had tried the garlic Taiwanese cabbage, stir-fried green, and the cold seaweed tofu appetizer. The Shanghai spare ribs were a good choice to go with fried rice or the Shanghai rice cake; it was tender and sweet but not too overpowering, a very authentic dish. Came here for lunch and it felt like a waste of time. There was only one server handling the entire restaurant, which made everything painfully slow. I was left standing at the entrance with no one to seat me, then waited 20 minutes for food. I asked for hot water three times -- they brought cold water. I had to get up and flag down the server myself just to ask for the check and a to-go box. And of course, the to-go box was forgotten, so I had to ask again. I was served pretty much undercooked boiled dumplings. Inside the dumpling wasn't fully cooked and was mushy. I ate one stupidly and was like "wow this is a bit softer than usual" and then attempted to eat the second one before it tasting too mushy. I showed the staff and they apologized and comped the meal. I have a friend who was going to open a dumpling house in the San Marino or Pasadena area. He had already taken over an old Chinese restaurant. He invited me to do some market research and consultation, so we met at Prince Dumpling. I know this area well. The restaurant was newly opened next to Great Wall Market, and one door down, Thien An Bo 7 is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants. The restaurant had just been renovated. Even the shop sign was a temporary banner. Compared with other Chinese restaurants in the area, it is brighter and more stylish. Just like Din Tai Fung, it has a glass room where they wrap Xiao Long Bao for customers to watch. Let's talk about the food: Cucumber Salad 小黃瓜 4/5 Very good raw ingredients. The cucumber flesh was green. This kind of green-fleshed cucumber has a crisp and tender texture. Sweet and Sour Pork Baby Back Ribs 糖醋小排骨 2/5 The color and flavor were weird. It was not golden brown but red. I guess they added tomato paste. The texture was too soft. I checked Yelp photos from a year ago, and the dish had the correct color back then. Strange. Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao 黑豚小籠包 5/5 Very good Xiao Long Bao, comparable to Din Tai Fung. But I couldn't taste anything special from the Kurobuta pork. Came on Sat night with 2 friends and it was great. Clearly, we over ordered. Overall, I'd give the food 3.5 stars but bumping it up to a 4 for overall experience, ease parking, and general ambiance. String Beans - 3/5 - I was actually a little disappointed in these. They were a lot more oily than it needed to be. Pork XLB - 4/5 - the broth is much lighter than other XLBs I've had. I liked it. Lobster XLB- 3/5 - these were okay Beef roll - 4/5 - the skin part was more oily than other places but I did enjoy this. Apparently I did a little dance while consuming it. Dan dan noodles - 3/5 - just okay. I'd probably skip next time. Spicy Beef Noodles - 3.5/5 - the broth was flavorful and it honestly wasn't that spicy Spicy wontons and Spicy Cucumber - 3/5 - the Spicy oil/sauce was just okay. Overall, I think the good is solid. Food reminded me of DTF without having to wait. Staff was great, checked on us throughout the whole meal & make sure water was always filled. Clean establishment and lots of parking. read more
