Great pizza. Normally not a big fan of thin crust but this one was superb. It was thin but had a great crisp to it. The pepperoni was piled on and the cheese was fresh. There is seating available and a TV to watch sports. Staff is cool. read more

Ordered the cold Italian sub. Boy was that a mistake! The only thing colder than my feeling towards this sandwich might be the review I'm about to give it. I cannot speak for their pizza, but please, if you are craving an Italian sub/hoagie/hero (or whatever name tickles your fancy) do NOT, I repeat, do NOT order this sandwich. It is an abomination to all sandwiches around the globe. First of all, the thing looks like something I pulled out of my gutter last weekend after months of negligence. Second, they SLATHER it with about half a tub of mayonnaise. MAYONNAISE. On an Italian sub. SO. MUCH. MAYONNAISE. My girlfriend and I were so hungry that we tried forcing these things down like spoonful of flu medicine, but after one bite I threw mine out and told her to do the same, which she adamantly agreed to. Reading the rest of these reviews, which don't seem as scathing (sorry guys :/, make a better sandwich!) I implore you all to order literally anything else on the menu. Since it's been a while, I can't remember much tails except that I really enjoyed my pizza. I believe I had the broccoli one. It wasn't too oily and the vegetables were crisp. There is a large variety of pizzas to choose from. It's a clean place with a good number of seating. My friend really enjoyed his Sicilian slice. read more

The regular slice barely had any cheese on it and the customer service was disgusting. There was a worker there entertaining some people instead of actually working and he allowed them to sit on the bench the entire 45 minutes we were there. The pizza is overpriced for the poor taste and lack of cheese even after ordering extra cheese. I won't eat here ever again, and I also suggest they reconsider how they treat customers of color. We spent altogether $50 and they didn't even tell us "hey if you put up a yelp review you can get a free soda". Proto's is my favorite pizzeria in town. Delicious pizza. A great choice of other dishes besides pizzas such as pastas, meatballs and chicken. Service is always great and a very friendly staff. They also deliver in time which is great and very convenient sometimes. I highly recommend this great spot in east village. read more

I really love the pizza from here. The sicilian pizza is amazing. So thick and the sauce is great! Their regular pizza is good, too. My fiance really likes just a normal New York style pizza so we will get that more than the sicilian but if I wasn't such a wonderful sharer, I would get the sicilian every time. This place is a heaven for pizza lovers!! If you are not getting a slice on the rush, stop by and ask the chef for a slice of his special pizza. I eat here almost everyday and the four cheese pizza is my favourite. They also make a unique layered pastry called burek, something you won't definitely find anywhere in New York. I'm really unhappy with my order tonight. This is actually my first Yelp review because it needed it. I ordered delivery through Seamless. Although it was prompt and the delivery guy was really nice the food is not good. I've ordered from here before and had a good experience which is why I ordered Proto's again (last time ordered a basic plain pie which was delicious) Tonight I ordered a margarita pie and a Caesar salad. Margarita- tasted stale like it's been sitting for a while. The mozzarella is not melted, the basil is mostly basil stems creating a weird texture, the pizza itself is tough to chew-- almost like it was a frozen pizza that was microwaved. I've been craving pizza all weekend, finally gave in and it was a huge let down. I also got a Caesar salad with dressing on the side- the lettuce is crisp but has a bitter taste. All of the croutons are burnt and somehow soggy? I don't understand since the dressings on the side and the croutons are burnt. Lastly the napkin they wrapped my utensils in, smelt like cigarette smoke.. Gross. All in all, I spent 28 dollars on delivery pizza and salad and it's not even worth eating. read more

Not sure what this josh character is talking about with his rambling about the parts that go into his pizza decision making process - intelligence, knowledge of the neighborhood., ect. ect. What the hell is he taliking about. He should add part STFU. (see this guys annoying review two below and let me know if you can figure it out). Anyway this place is great. I live around the corner and eat here quite often. I ussually eat the meatballs or the chicken parm, both are excellent. As a matter of fact their meatballs were rated best in the city by CBS New York. Every once in a while I grab al slice of pizza, they are dish pan slices and the toppings are very creative, my favorite is the chicken barbacue. My girlfriend likes the bruschetta slice. Ive never had a slice that was cold or not of good consistency. Finally the guys who work there are very nice. In fact so nice that at the end of last summer they gave me a tub of Uncle Louie G's chocolate ice. I've never seen them be rude to anyone. I highly recommend this place, its one of my favorite pizza spots in the city. read more

I stop here on my way to catch a show. I was with a friend and enjoyed the cozy establishment. I always believe that it is the little places that have the best pizza. I was proven correct with Proto's. I had delicious Philly cheesteak pizza and my friend had a buffalo chicken pizza. The crust was thick and crunchy and cheesteak was delicious. I had high hopes for this pizza place, which is now in the former Enzo's Pizza space. The staff is kind and the location is convenient, and if you need a basic slice they have a decent if forgettable thin slice of cheese for $2.50. Not much flavor to the sauce or dough, which seems a shame right here in NYC. Gets the job done, but tastes like a dollar slice, not a $2.50 slice. The thing is, they're not here to give you a great, simple slice. Their ambitions lie in other areas. Their specialty seems to be slices of pizza that hold huge quantities of non-pizza toppings such as BBQ chicken and Chicken Francese. These toppings look like mountains of bad Chinese food at an airport food court, and I stay far away from them. But if you like big quantities of weird toppings on your pizza check it out. Some people seem to like them. I stop here when I'm in a rush for a slice, but I have to say that I do this reluctantly, because it's just not as good as it should be. read more

The new owner is a sweetheart who is definitely trying harder so don't let past reviews deter you from giving him a chance. You'll be surprised and pleased. The pizza is really good--paper-thin crust, dripping with olive oil and delicious.
